possible brick - Moto X Q&A

Hi i have a serious problem i am running cm-12-20150217-NIGHTLY-ghost.zip for the last five days. Now this is where my problems started yesterday i flashed a new boot animation after which the device refuses to boot . when switch on i just keep hearing a vibrating sound untill i hold down vol button and go into twrp recovery. I had made a nandroid backup of the functioning cm12 which i know works because i tested it once. But this time it wont work anymore. After restoring the backup i get the same problem vibrates then stops and the occasional flicker of light. i have no idea how to get back to stock i cannot find kitkat .4.4.4 stock for xt1053 anywhere and i think ive bricked the device anyway. I think i flashed the wrong boot animation which may have corrupted sys files.
Any help much very much appreciated im all ears.

Wrong section, but I'll help. Next time use the Q&A...but okay. Flash the cm12 nightly after wiping and see if it'll boot. And if you got into recovery I'm pretty sure your not bricked.
Edit: if you can't get cm12 to boot without flashing cm11 first, then just flash cm11. If anything boots then it was just your setup.

It's cool man, And you wiped data for sure? If you wiped data for sure, are you sure the cm11 has ghost in the file name? And can you tell me what was the boot animation zip you flashed.

Ok perhaps we are getting somwhere now i had changed the file name before flashing to make it easier for me to type in i wasnt aware it would have any relevance. the boot animation i used was one from here in the moto x boot animations section and was about 26mb which i thought odd but i flashed it anyway like an idiot. What i dont understand is why my Nand flash didnt work after that. This is the animation i flashed.

This is available in our forum which you should get it from but....sad part is this boot animation only works on stock I believe. I flashed last week before coming back to 5.0 did you also flash the logo?

[recovery/device/sd error?] Nexus One not flashing

Hey guys i don't know if anyone of you had the same issue but any info/help could be helpful.
I used to flash my N1 A LOT! but today i have this strange issue. I wiped and flashed rodriguezstyle again for a clean start, but i only got the colorful X with the unlocked symbol at the bottom and then just a black screen. i thought I've done something wrong and flashed again, but with the same results.
i changed my sd and downloaded again the rom but still no luck, did a nandroid restore and the phone was working properly. then i got a bit frustrated. downloaded 2-3 more roms but the result was the same.
i read somewhere that flashing with battery <50% may cause some errors so left the phone off to fully charge and tried again... no luck
then i remembered i upgraded the radio and i downgraded it to the old one, but still the same results and nandroid doesn't work... jeeeesh... back to the new radio and to my nandroid, but its no fun owning a smart-phone if you cannot flash it.
anyone with the same issue or any helpful tips/instructions?
Try this:
When the phone hangs at boot, reboot to recovery, wipe cache and dalvik-cache and reboot from recovery. Does that work?
If not, you'll need to logcat the boot process and post the log somewhere for us to have a look at.
So, assuming adb is working on your computer, plug in via usb, use adb logcat > output.log and reboot the phone. Continue logging for about 60 seconds after the phone stops.
Post the log to www.pastebin.com and then link back here.
hmmmm ok i will post results in abt an hour. thanx!
hmmmm i think i sorted it out... reflashed recovery. propably i messed smthing in there! thanx for your effort!
Hello everyone!
Weird problem here, too.
I was backing up my SD card in view of a format/cleanup....and when I went to boot into recovery, my N1 was stuck on the black screen with the white letters at the bottom "Build : RA-nexus-v1.7.0.1"... The phone actually boots great, it is just not loading the recovery image. Is it possible that part of the flash got corrupted? If so, I'm pretty much done flashing my N1, right???
I'll post a log asap (if it could help any)...
Oh and btw i tried to re-flash Amon-RA's recovery twice already...Superboot said it was successful....but I doubt it...
Well try flashing stock rom! I flashed it through fastboot step by step and it worked. Also check if the rom you try to flash needs ext partition or if apps2sd is enabled

Help restoring with Nandroid after a bad .zip update

I tried to flash a theme update from zip in recovery mode and it messed something up royally. Now when I boot the phone it shows the HTC logo then just goes black and never comes back. I made a Nandroid back up right before I flashed and it said it completed it successfully, but when I go to recovery (volume down + power button) and select nand restore, it says its restoring and then restoring complete but when I reboot it still goes to the black screen. What do i need to do differently? I have never had to restore until now.
I'm on Fresh 2.3.3
Try wiping all data and dalvik and then restoring the nandroid.

Do adb logcat. It might actually be booting without a bootscreen.

Can you walk me through that? Sorry I haven't ever heard of it.
EDIT: Ok I let it run for a while and it eventually boots up but the boot screens/sounds never show or play. So I completely wiped the phone and reflashed Fresh 2.3.3... still no boot screens or sounds! I don't know what I could have messed up that complete wipe/flash doesnt get rid of. Any ideas? Also now Titanium is saying that it cant get root access because my phones not rooted properly. What tha?
Bump... Still having this issue. The phone is usable but the boot images and sounds are gone
nobody has mentioned this but maybe you just have a bad Nandroid. maybe something did not copy right or something in the phone internally got deleted during the backup/restore process. i saw on android forums somewhere it happened to some person using an Eris. Cant quite remember how he got it fixed but he ended up fixing it somehow.

Well I thought it might be a bad nandroid too, so I just wiped the phone and flashed fresh without ever restoring the backup and it still has no boot images or sounds. It's the strangest thing. When I flashed the first time to 2.3.3 the re were definately boot images and I flashed from the same file this time.
You might have to just use the RUU and start over from scratch, I had to do that once and it sucked.

Keeps restarting for no reason - rooted

I rebooted my phone to install a font and now it continues to turn on (HTC logo) and then restart. Tried to get into recovery and it just exits...
I had my phone off at night and turned it on - read a few text messages - and went to replace the ****ty font I installed yesterday.
Just looping.
Any help?
Can't even turn it off lol - I would need to go into bootloader and click power down. It is odd - I didn't do anything and it started up perfectly before 5 minutes I did the fonts.

I flashed the recovery with CWM and installed Android Revolution HD 6.1
I was just wondering if it was safe to re-flash the recovery again to see if it would work. I don't want to screw up this phone lol.
EDIT: Got it. Reflashed the recovery and had to reflash the ROM.
I don't know why a simple font change would screw ALL of that up. I don't want to keep flashing this ROM lol it has been about 4 times now.

You need to reflash what ever was on it. Hopefully you made a backup if not and were on stock find the correct nandroid back or RUU for your phone and flash that. You can also try doing a factory reset that may bring it back.
agreed...try to re-flash everything to stock than go from there to find what is causing the problem.

HTC One won't boot to ROM or recovery

Was installing android revolution 10.0 and when it finished it wen't back to CWM. It said something about maybe loosing root and I accidentally backed out and it tried rebooting. Now its stuck in some sort of bootloop and it tries to boot into ROM but it turns off and then trys to boot reecovery. the screen flashes CWM for a second but then it turns off again and trys to boot. I can get to Hboot and selecting recovery there makes the same thing happen.

This worked. Should I try flashing ARHD again? its the only ROM on my SD card. Or should I be able to boot in to my current ARHD ROM that I tried installing before this happened?
Also at the bottom of CWM i get can't mount /cache/recovery/command and a few other can't mount log and can't open logo. before your solution I reflashed CWM using fastboot. Don't know if thoes things will cause an issue

I was on trickdroid before. I think it had to do with me rebooting and not selecting the fix root option.
reflashed and aroma got stuckk after installing. just did adb reboot and seeing whats happening next. wish me luck. :x
Let your phone cool down before trying aroma again but mine froze at 100% twice. First time got stuck at boot animation. second time it booted but it stayed at boot animation for a while

Well I flashed it and it got stuck at boot animation for about 20 minutes. Flashed it once more and it did what it did the first time. I noticed that aroma completely crashes before finishing and thats how it all started the first time. It goes back to recovery. So just flashed it again right now and got it to completely go through. Back to HTC One screen though. Gonna see if it boots or not.
Still at boot screen for a long time. :x

You remember how you had to do fastboot to unlock bootloader? go to that folder where you have your adb files and what not, then you need to Shift + right click while in the white space of that folder and click "open command window here." With your device connected in the command window just type "fastboot erase cache" and that'll work.
If you never had to unlock bootloader you probably had to do this already to install a recovery.
BTW Still stuck at HTC One screen. Might try flashing trickdroid 5.6 from my computer if thats possible... And as a last resort wipe data and install if that doesn't work.

Does anyone know how i'd be able to do this using a mac?
edit: Nvm, i got it. Trying to reflash the rom now. Thanks for the help!
Just decided to wipe SD card and try ARHD again. Man I should have never tried to flash a 4.2.2 ROM yet.
No idea how to do it on Mac. Look up how to use fastboot on Mac
I got it to install correctly after erasing the cache. The first reboot took like 3-4 mins but it finally went through and it's working perfect now. Not sure what happened the first time

finally I got it to boot up. Had to wipe my phone though for it to work. Lost a lot of stuff. :/

I have been getting help from another section but they advised me to post here. Just to update i am still in the same position no matter how many times i wipe everything and then adb push either cm11 or cm12 neither will boot it just vibrates every 2 seconds and i have to force recovery by holding the buttons in.
Your not bricked. Why not return to complete stock via mfastboot or rsd to make sure?

Oh, and I've seen this symptom from flashing an incompatible LOGO.BIN, but haven't seen it from flashing boot animation (unless the animation file was TWRP flashable, and included a LOGO.BIN). Usually flashing a known good LOGO.BIN back on your phone fixes it.
fixed
Thankyou very much guys esp Smash2Bash without whom i was very much messed up i believe i flashed a stock logo/bootanimation to cm12 which is what caused my problems. when sent the correct one everything fired up as normal phew. Funny thing is why wouldnt my Nandroid backup work i just dont understand that and also since reflashing a fresh cm12nightly ambient display has started working which didnt work at all before very strange.
