Turning off screen light up when receiving text message - Huawei Ascend P7

Hey, I've searched around for this but it only showed similar problems for other phones and not the P7. I checked through the settings and couldn't locate an option to turn off and prevent the screen from lighting up when receiving a text message. Sometimes with the phone in my pocket it'll light up and get unlocked and starting calling and texting random people. Would really appreciate the help, I'm on 2.3 right now.

look inside the motion control feature under settings..there should be an option to prevent phone from randomly unlock inside pocket..

Sadly I don't see it in there. All I see is the Flip, Pick up, Raise to Ear, Shake, and Tilt options. All of those which mostly deal with calling. Is there any other solution available. I was thinking of putting a password, but then I thought it would start putting random combinations and most likely lock myself out.

[Q] Faulty mute toggle?

Hi everyone
Re-posting this from the general section (posted on there by mistake, was still half asleep lol, sorry)
Just got the xperia z yesterday (after my previous lg 4x was stolen... grrr... may the thief get permanent bursting hemorroids...) and I noticed a weird thing.
The mute/vibrate/sound toggle in the notification bar does not seem to work, and the same goes for the one in the popup shown by pressing the power button for a couple seconds.
Details: the mute or vibrate icon appears on the notification bar, but if I check the volumes in settings, they're still all on, and if I receive a call or get a notification or whatever, the phone actually rings despite the supposedly muted state.
All this doesn't happen if I "manually" turn the volume off with the volume buttons or via settings: in that case the vibrate icon appears and the phone actually does not ring.
Has anyone experienced anything similar?
All good here dude. Hope you get it fixed. Have you tried turning phone off and on again? That usualy fixes small.glitches.

Yep, already tried that of course, as well as uninstalling the one widget I have that interacts with volumes, just to be sure it was not some weird conflict (and of course it wasn't)
Not a biggie actually, as I can turn it down manually or by said widget, but I hope I'll figure it out anyway if only for the sake of understanding the source of the issue
Yep I understand that. Annoys me when I cant get something working lile its ment to.

I have a problem with the toggle in the notification bar and the power off menu. System settings show me notifications and ringtones are off, but the phone still has audible, unmuted notification sounds. Really annoying.

Actually, I could try a factory reset just to be sure, but I admit I'm kind of too lazy to set my stuff up again from scratch only to try and fix that small glitch

Heard about it, but haven't read the whole thing yet (yep, still being lazy)
Jokes apart, I was planning to leave it 100% stock for at least a little while to see how the battery behaves without even the slightest piece of modding (got the phone only last friday, today has been the first real "field test" for the battery and so far I'm pretty positively impressed)
Well I have already removes/frozen a bucketload of apps happy bunny, I am. Now I only need to figure out which app does what so I don't kill something and make my phone less usable.

lol I removed a few apps too, but luckily for me they were uninstallable without root or anything.
I also disabled a few more through the stock apps management, for the time being it's sufficient for my taste
Same irritating automatic toggling action going on

Yes, having the same problem as well with mine. But it has been the same problem since I had ICS on my Xperia Arc S, then Xperia V and now this when I use the toggle in the notification bar or any other toggle aside from toggling it manually via setting. Very irritating since it has never and probably will never be fixed due to the fact that it's a cross-model issue. Chances are, those who say they don't have this problem already has it but don't know it yet or will get it eventually. Sony needs to iron this out once and for all

[Q] One calling last dialed contact from my pocket

5 times over the last few days my phone has called the last dialed contacts while sitting in my phone. I think it's something to do with removing the headphones (stock) while Spotify is playing as the last two times that's when it happened but it may be a coincidence as I can't replicate it.
Has anyone had this happen or heard of something similar?

I had a similar problem that unlocked the lockscreen with just tapping the screen anywhere. Could it be that your phone is doing the same?

I'm not too sure what makes the lockscreen behave like that as I couldn't diagnose the problem properly.
Here's what i did just before the phone stopped doing it:
First I completely turned off the phone by long pressing the power button until the timer ran outThen I pressed the VOL- key while still holding the power button to go into bootloaderOnce in the bootloader I simply booted into recoveryFinally from recovery just held down power until phone booted up againI'm not sure which step fixed it for me if bootloader, recovery or simply completely turning off the phone but after i did that the lockscreen went back to normal.
I suggest you try every one of the steps once in order to better evaluate which step fixes this (if it fixes them at all)
Let me know how you get on
Tried those steps, unfortunately my lockscreen is acting as it did before. But thank you for your help

Thanks for the tip its good to know, hopefully someone will find some other way to fix it without losing apps and data
If you're experiencing the bug where pressing anywhere on your One's lockscreen causes it to unlock, you've prolly got an app installed that has an Accessibility Service component to it. If you have any Accessibility Service enabled, it will cause this bug. (Light Flow and the Pebble smartwatch apps are 2 common apps that use an Accessibility Service).
On your phone go to Settings: Accessibility and look under Services. If anything there is enabled, disable it and that should stop the lockscreen from behaving this way.
This bug will also cause the phone to answer any incoming call if you press anywhere on the lockscreen while your phone is receiving a call.

I'm not aware of any way to fix it, unfortunately. Wish I knew a way, believe me, because this issue is keeping me from using the full functionality of my Pebble smartwatch with my HTC One. :crying:
I've actually mentioned this bug to a couple of HTC employees in a thread on Reddit here:

and one of them has already brought this to the attention of some HTC engineers, so hopefully it will be fixed with a future update!

i have found that killing the lockscreen with a task killer will revert it back to pull to unlock for a while for some reason.

List of bugs on Note 3

I love this device but it has a couple of issues. I thought it would be helpful to list bugs in this first release of the software. I'm not rooted. These are mine:
Haptic feedback on menu keys sometimes stops
Air Command has stopped working. Its intermittent.
Sound controls sometimes don't allow me to make changes (right now I can't change notification sound level)
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
I myself have not encountered the haptic-feedback, air-command, or sound-control problems.
The one problem I've found is that Google Hangouts won't do video calls via LTE. It pops up a message saying a WiFi connection is required instead. (The Note 2 used to have the same problem on ATT, but it was fixed about a month ago.)
Another annoying bug is that AVRCP 1.3 does not seem to be implemented properly.
Song/Media metadata does not get properly sent via bluetooth to receiving devices. This has been seen as not working at all to song information getting stuck on display and not changing when tracks change.
I'm definitely looking forward to a big fix for this one.
This has been seen on ATT, Tmobile, and Sprint variants.

But the workaround requires rooting, doesn't it? (For me, the disadvantages of rooting at this point outweigh the benefit of Hangouts via LTE.)

Whats the disadvantages to rooting?
The only bug that I have noticed is sometimes when I get an email notification from the stock email app, it appears in the status bar and then disappears within a couple of seconds. I've seen this a couple of times.
I guess we have to expect some issues since this is the first device out of the box with 4.3.
I really wish they would allow the widgets on the lock screen while having a pin for security. At least read only.

Some of the disadvantages are:
* If I screw it up, I could brick the phone, or at least make the phone unavailable while I have to spend a lot of time fixing it.
* Rooting will wipe my existing setup, requiring more time than I want to spend to re-initialize my phone.
* There may be security, stability, or performance problems that have not been discovered yet.
* If my phone exhibits any subsequent problems, even if they're not actually due to rooting, I won't have any easy way of knowing whether that's the case.
* I don't know whether rooting may interfere with subsequent OTA updates (unless I go to the trouble of flashing back to stock first).
* No one can rule out the possibility that rooting will void the phone's warranty.
screen and sound
has anyone noticed occasional brightness flickering? I thought it might be adaptive display or something like that, and i disabled it all, but I still see it.
also, I'm not sure what in the world happened, but my phone started randomly playing music. the music player didn't open, I had air gestures, off, and it wasn't ringing. I turned off wifi and the music stopped. In fact, i don't even think I have the song that was playing saved to my phone.

Rooting any device voids warranty. It does not trip the flash counter or Knox. Just flash back to stock or supersu unroot.
As for the other stuff, no issues here. Phone is as stable as it was on stock. Runs even better because debloated it myself.

Using Google Music over headphone aux cable, setup eq the way you want, listen for a sec and slide the track knob to another part of the song. The eq turns off. If you go in to the eq settings, it is showing on. Toggle off and on and you will hear the difference.

I don't have any of the bugs being list here. However, when I have S Voice on for wake up when the screen is off, it will sometimes turn on randomly even when nothing is said. Happened in a movie theater for me and it was embarrasing. That feature is now off.

Anyone else having problems using whatsapp with pen window?
It seems that when I minimise it from a conversation I then can't open it again or move the icon around on the screen.
Works normally if I press back to the conversation window first though
S voice gets weird with me too. Had it in hands free mode and it kept telling me something about my safety while it simultaneously read my text out loud. it kept getting stuck in that loop for any new messages.

Screen brightness and
Screen brightness issue: occasionally, when brightness is set low (not auto), when phone is turned on, screen turns on at full brightness for a split second then go to low setting level. Happens about 25% times.
Haptic feed back when screen off: after I turn screen off, if I move phone, I get a haptic feed back once. Doesn't repeat until I turn screen on and off again.
Edit: this is caused by 'smart alert'. Under Controls -> Motions. It vibrates when you pick up the phone and you have a notification and the screen is off to let you know there is something you missed.

Top of the screen becomes unresponsive suddenly

I've noticed since I first got this phone that the top of the screen becomes unresponsive randomly. Starting a touch registers nothing, but the screen still functions like normal in a dragging touch situation.
The only way to fix it is to reboot. It's gotten to a point where it's annoying to deal with, especially if you're trying to do multiple things at once like replying to several text messages.
Any idea what the issue is?

I don't think it's an actual problem with the hardware, but rather the software.
For example, when it happens it usually prevents me from swiping down the notification shade, but if I tap on hold in the middle of the notification bar, it appears long enough for my to pull it down.
Besides, if it was hardware based, how could a reboot fix it?
And I also bought this phone second hand so I don't know how that would affect calling Motorola.

The only thing I can think of is if the phone was damaged and the glass replaced there could be an issue with the repair or the top of the digitizer.
Does it work when you apply pressure?
Do you have a screen protector on it? Tempered glass?
Do you have a case like the otterbox that has the screen protector built in?

1. No, its more like the top or the screen becomes disabled. One quick reboot and its back to normal until it happens again.
2. It did have a tempered glass screen when I bought it but I took it off.
3. No, I use my phone completely naked.
It's not much of an issue, its just a huge inconvenience.

That would make me mad when it does happen.
You could go into safe mode and run that for a day to see if the issue pops up. Then you will know it's a software not hardware issue.
Push and hold the power button until the power menu pops up. Press and hold the power off until the safe mode prompt pops up.
Give that a try.

I have never installed Messenger, only the regular Facebook app. I uninstalled it just yesterday however.
Perhaps I have another app that causes those dead spots? But they would have to create it all across the top part of the screen.

Do you have any other app that has the ability to produce floating "chat head" like items? The only other app I know that uses such a feature is Flyperlink, a new app (or maybe not so new, I don't know) that a lot of people just started talking about recently.

Not that I am aware of; unless I did it a while ago and can't remember.
I think I may have figured it out though. I use AwSMS as my primary messaging app, and the Heads Up notification allows for quick reply if you swipe down. I think it behaves sorta like the floating chat things someone said earlier, because I can watch videos and leave most games running in the background without it pausing as I type.

My phone vibrates for no 'reason'

Greetings all,
I have a new Note5 and overall I like it.
As you might expect I have been working feverishly to find up to date app solutions for my usage model and that will work on an unrooted device. I despise all that conspire to force this upon us! Anyway I have been testing loads of apps and somewhere along the way something has been set to vibrate to indicate something. It is happening at fairly random intervals and nothing shows on screen or in the pull down that accounts for it.
I have looked for events that are pending, past due, etc. I don't get many texts. So, it isn't that. I have even turned on airplane mode which should prevent any kind of updaes or pushes that might trigger an notice.I have checked all of the apps I am using and none are set to vibrate only. From the initial turn on of this phone I have run package disabler pro for Samsung. Using a basic list from this xda thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/guide-bloating-touchwizzing-note-5-t3184563. I have restarted the phone several times as well
Can anyone suggest some kind of system monitor/logging app that I can load that will allow me to find out which application is triggering this? Is there some other way I can find out what is triggering this event? I expect that a logging app will eat battery more but on a temp basis that would be ok.
Thanks all and here's to someone finding a way for us to root our notes without messing up our warranty and secure payment...

If you are talking about how it vibrates when you first pick it up for seemingly no reason, then that's a feature. It's to let you know you have notifications. It's called smart alert, you can disable it in the gestures menu.
vibrate (and sound) for 'no reason'
Thanks _MetalHead_
But no. This happens when it is sitting undisturbed. I will check and turn off that feature if it isnt already so it isnt adding to the confusion.
If I didnt say, I find no idication of active alarms or notifications.

Do you have any Bluetooth devices connected? I had a smart watch with my S5. Every time it connected or disconnected, the phone would vibrate. This was especially annoying when I left the watch in the bedroom while sitting in the living room with my phone. Every few minutes it would connect/disconnect and the phone would vibrate.

Not clear if this is contributing. Will turn BT off to be certain.
Actually, I think I can say for certain no. This has happened in airplane mode.
That is why I am looking for a system logging application or some equivalent method.

Hi, Go to settings and go to S Pen Option, and turn off all S Pen alerts, including power saver one.

Yeah, I re-read your OP, and noticed you said it was happening in airplane mode.
The S-Pen suggestion above seems worth pursuing.
Good luck!
I have the same problem. It would just randomly vibrate. I think is something to do with Google notifications.
