Nexus 6 shutting down repeatedly - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Nexus with latest OS 5.0.1 is getting switched off repeatedly . earlier it used to happen once in a week but now frequency increased for no reason. Last night it stopped at least 3-4 times either when am dialing or receiving call or some msg or when I open any app. Does anyone know what's the problem and how to overcome the same. Is anyone else experiencing similar issues. Now I started hating lollipop version.

This is a very common issue and also been posted in Google forum. You can head to this Google forum topic for more information

Yeah it's getting old. Seems to be increasing.

Random reboot

Has anyone else had this happen? Mine did and there's a big gap in my battery usage. I'm singing l assuming this will get fixed when they post the factory images considering the N9 has had 4 updates so far.

Happened today while I was on youtube, so far only once. What do you mean of big gap in my battery usage? Did the battery % decreased after the reboot or are you referring to the battery usage graph? On mine the usage graph restarted but the battery % was a continuation..

Yes it did here's a screen shot I took. I had a brief one earlier but this one was worse.
Phone rebooted today when i received a video message in hangouts.
Mine now does this weird thing where it opens random apps to the setting menu that has the option to force stop, disable and uninstall and keeps flashing and switching between them. I haven't unlocked the BL yet or done anything to the phone, I think its a software bug and hopefully google will release an update soon.
Edit: the random weird thing described above was caused by Greenify so I uninstalled it.
I'm having a lot of random reboots... anyone still with the problem?

I've had a couple more, I called Google today and made a trouble ticket to see if they are pushing out an updated build for us. I awaiting their response, but I'm certain they will fix this with an update.
Well it looks i got a lemon, its rebooting every 2 minutes, anyone knows google contact info for RMA?
Mine just started doing this. It happend twice the other day and I thought I did something, but just now while I was surfing the net on my computer with my Nexus 6 right beside me it rebooted for no reason.
Mine hasn't done it since I posted last. My Nexus 9 had the same bug so maybe its an app causing the system reboot.
I was just sitting on the couch 20 minutes ago, with both my Note 4 and N6 sitting next to me. I wasn't using either, but almost in unison, they both randomly restarted.

It's the aliens!
i get them a few times daily as well. usually it happens much quicker if i disable mpdecision, and use the ondemand governor. if i dont change anything, then i might make it through the day without a reboot. oh, and 99% of all my reboots happen when im using the browser. and the odd thing is, no last_kmsg gets produced.
I had two reboots an hour after I activated the phone on T-Mobile for no apparent reason. Went into network settings and changed from Global to LTE and the reboots never happened again
I changed mine from Global to LTE a week ago once I activated it yet mine has rebooted at least 3 times. I did notice that the last time was after I used wireless charging. I'm wondering if maybe the heat caused it to reboot.
Also happening to me (32gb blue, Bell Mobility Canada) ...has anyone tried factory resetting the device?

I also just picked one up from Bell (32GB Blue) today and had a random reboot while the phone was sitting on my desk idle. This was moments after tons of updates from the Play store. I read in some threads that doing a factory reset didn't work for most.
I also got a 15MB system update, on stock build LRX21O. Hope this isn't caused by hardware!
Edit: Just sent a text using "Textra", 2 mins later a random reboot occurred...

So I just had another one immediately after opening and closing the Messenger App (I stopped using hangouts) ... funny enough, same thing happened yesterday right after I closed the messenger app ... going to go back to hangouts as default and disable the messenger app to see if that helps
Was hoping the 5.0.1 update would fix this problem, but I'm still getting random reboots and shut downs, at least once a day.
my reboots are cured. the ondemand governor is broken in stock, and aosp, and has been the cause of the reboots. as soon as the developer of lean kernel fixed the ondemand, no more reboots using lean kernel

[Question] Nexus 6 randomly reboots, sometimes power button doesnt work

I am checking to see if other people see this on there Nexus 6.
I get random reboots, like once every 2-3days I would say. (Is this Memory Leak?)
Also sometimes I cannot unlock with power button, it will stay black screen. Here sometimes it reboots, sometimes if I wait 10-20secs it works again.
I am wondering whether to return it for another one.
Actually I never faced with my device. And currently my device's Up Time is about 180 hrs. Running last 7 days without any problem.
Go to this link and look near the bottom of the page. Paul, from Google, is reporting that 5.1 should "reduce unexpected reboots." Hope that means they have fixed it and they just used the word "reduce" instead of fix because of the fact that any phone might reboot given the right set of circumstances. Hopefully, persisting reboots will finally be fixed. If you read the entire thread (very long) you will see that many people have reported random reboots and they have experienced them under different circumstances. I'd like to know if they've found what is triggering the repeated reboots for everyone---only time will tell. Some have exchanged their phone for another and had success. Quite a few others have reported receiving 1, 2, or even 3 different replacements and still experiencing reboot problems. Don't know what the answer is. I'm just sitting back observing, waiting to see if it gets resolved before purchasing the N6. If I don't see a satisfactory resolution, then I probably won't get one, even though, before it was released, it sounded like the just the phone I wanted.

I have the same problem on my T-Mobile Nexus 6. 2 reboots in the past 24 hours. It occurs randomly too. I just got the phone like 3 days ago so I'm hoping that 5.1 will fix this issue. Next to the reboots I haven't had any issues with the phone. It pretty badass actually. I switched from the Note 4.
Thanks for the feedback! I really like the phone no way I will get rid of it for this issue. Its just annoying as nexus 5 I didn't. Have any issue like this but I guess KitKat was a more stable than LP.
I will await 5.1 which sound imminent

Shuts down when incoming calls

Well ,it has happened before but I didn't want to exaggerate it ,so I left it just as it was until today .It's completely stock ,with custom recovery .It has happened to me since 5.0 and up until now 5.1 .
It doesn't happen always ,just "occasionally" when there is an incoming call ,Nexus 6 turns off itself .It happened now that I didn't even hear that it rang ,it just turned off ,but I know that my dad called me .
Has anyone ever experienced such issue ,is there a fix ?
To mention that it also gives an odd sound befire turning off :/
Same thing happening for me also with Nexus 6
And this keeps happening more frequently over recent months. This also happens when battery is below 30% and I am taking HDR+ photo. Maybe related to aging battery and apps getting more and more power hungry..?
@pauliusz: First, kudos for actually searching for a thread related to your problem. Too many don't bother. Second, replace your battery, as the shutdowns are in fact a direct result of the battery's age.

[Issue] Phone dialer do not work properly after every restart

I have been experiencing this issue on my P9 but understood from few of my friends using Nexus 5X that they have similar issue.
IIssue:
A common issue in MM (whether it is EMUI or stock), phone dialer do not work properly after evey restart. On some restart phone dialer do not work and the fix require another restart. People who have not noticed this issue are missing calls. I do not see this issue discussed anywhere. Many of my friends using Nexus 5X also experiencing this issue.
Is there anyone experiencing this problem?.....
I do...
Not every day, just here and now. Any idea what to do to stop that?

Phone freezing/crashing after ARL1 (T-Mobile) update?

Ever since the December update my phone freezes for about 3 seconds after hanging up then the 'Phone has stopped" message appears. Anyone else noticing this? Any way to stop this?

Here's another thread discussing issues after the same T-Mobile US update, perhaps drop in on that one periodically for info:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/help/t-mobile-update-t3888923
I'm on the same update & even though I get very few incoming calls,I haven't experienced any issues.
The only difference I've noticed is covered in the other thread, incoming unknown calls (not identified a SCAM LIKELY) are silent when I answer & then hang-up/disconnect after about 5 seconds.
No issues w/legitimate incoming calls.
Just spit-balling here:
Did you have any seemingly related apps disabled when you took the update?
IDK if that would make any difference one way or the other, just something to consider.............
