Ever since the December update my phone freezes for about 3 seconds after hanging up then the 'Phone has stopped" message appears. Anyone else noticing this? Any way to stop this?

Here's another thread discussing issues after the same T-Mobile US update, perhaps drop in on that one periodically for info:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/help/t-mobile-update-t3888923
I'm on the same update & even though I get very few incoming calls,I haven't experienced any issues.
The only difference I've noticed is covered in the other thread, incoming unknown calls (not identified a SCAM LIKELY) are silent when I answer & then hang-up/disconnect after about 5 seconds.
No issues w/legitimate incoming calls.
Just spit-balling here:
Did you have any seemingly related apps disabled when you took the update?
IDK if that would make any difference one way or the other, just something to consider.............

Anyone else having issues with people not hearing you the first 5 seconds after you pick up a call?
It sometimes takes about 5 seconds before someone on the other end hears me after I pick up a call. I am starting to believe it is the voice caller id app that I have installed but I am not positive about that. Anyone else having the same issue?
no...i dont have that issue...logic would say "remove the app" and see if you have the issue....
me too!
I have had the exact same issue. I have changed SIM with ATT. Swapped phones with Google/HTC. Master reset the phone. Uninstalled all apps and master reset the phone. Now, with no apps, just a naked phone, it appears to be working correctly. I am very frustrated. My smart phone only works correctly when it is dumbed down.
mine only has that problem in my apartment, where my signal is pretty crappy. otherwise, no issue
slowly adding back applications
The issue is independent of signal strength for me. I should mention that I am running stock/non rooted android ROM.
still adding. apps back
Continuing to add applications back 1 by 1 until the problem returned. At this point problem has not returned. I'm beginning to suspect a touchdown application. I think it is interfering with my contacts synchronization with my exchange server. The corruption of the contacts maybe causing the inbound calls to delay.
My Nexus with latest OS 5.0.1 is getting switched off repeatedly . earlier it used to happen once in a week but now frequency increased for no reason. Last night it stopped at least 3-4 times either when am dialing or receiving call or some msg or when I open any app. Does anyone know what's the problem and how to overcome the same. Is anyone else experiencing similar issues. Now I started hating lollipop version.

This is a very common issue and also been posted in Google forum. You can head to this Google forum topic for more information
Yeah it's getting old. Seems to be increasing.
Just FYI, this seems to be a big bug in Verizon Visual Voicemail app for a long time now (even the same issue on my Sony Xperia Z3v just before this device).
Anytime I start playing the voicemail and soon as I bring it to my ear, it locks the device and stops playing the voicemail message I am listening to. I have checked every setting I can think of and I think this is a big bug in the app.
If anyone knows a fix or workaround for this issue please do let us know.

I figured out how the issue works but confirmed for sure it's a bug with the application.
If you go into your lock-screen security settings, I usually set mine to lock immediately on screen-off (I guess the default is some 30 seconds or so). If I change the screen-off lock timeout to 30 seconds or something then the screen goes off but the voicemail still plays since it's not locking the device. However if the voicemail ends up being longer than 30 seconds then of course at the 30-second mark it will lock and stop playing.
This seems to be the workaround but the issue is still there and can be considered a security issue if you need to have your lock timeout set longer just to be able to hear voicemails playing on the lockscreen once you already started them. Regular media still plays if you lock the device so there's no reason why the voicemail app shouldn't.
If anyone has any other details about this it would be much appreciated. This is for sure specific to Verizon's Visual Voice Mail app not allowing to stay running on the lockscreen.
I submitted a ticket with Verizon's IT team explaining all these details and and they said they will get back to me shortly.
Yeah i have my screen time out at 1 or 2 mins right now and trusted device unlock when i'm wearing my Moto360.
Changing my lock screen settings didn't work. Has anyone else found another resolution to this?

Hi all,
my 4X, Miui 9.5.4.0 ROM, will not receive text messages most of the time. I can send texts OK but for the most part I cannot receive a text. I say for the most part because every now and then one seems to sneak through for some reason.
The only messaging app installed is the stock MIUI one that came with the phone. I did try a couple of other messaging apps with the same result. They have since been removed.
Any thoughts or ideas appreciated.
TIA
Greg

I can't imagine it's something wrong with MIUI? it never actually happened to me, I'd contact your carrier first, perhaps they have blocked numbers from texting you
I recommend also checking in Settings; System apps > Call settings > Blocklist to see if the phone has blocked incoming test messages from any numbers

I've just placed the SIM into another phone and it works fine, so it's not the carrier. Checked blocklist and nothing there, plus I can miss and intermittently get texts from the same person.
It's got to be a MIUI thing!

Do you notice that you lose signal a lot? It could be a faulty antenna band too, it can be replaced under warranty

No I have a strong signal, so I do not think it's that.
Just did a test:
1. Rebooted phone
2. As soon as the lockscreen appears I sent a text from my wife phone.
3. It is received.
4. Wait one minute and send another 3 texts from my wifes phone.
5. None received.
6. Reboot phone.
7. The 3 missed texts arrive as soon as the phone reboots.
8. Wait one minute and send another 3 texts from wife's phone.
9. None received.
10. Reboot phone
11. 3 missed texts arrive as soon as the phone reboots.
It has to be MIUI.

That sounds annoying... If you can, go to developer options, and enable "Show all ANR" and use the phone (especially SMS) for a while to see if the culprit is a system process failing to stay alive, and try to clear all data for that process
You should be able to find the process by going to "Installed apps" and enabling "Show system apps"
Researching more on the problem has no real conclusion at all.. Some people solved the problem by just doing a factory reset, some more gets it fixed after calling their carrier, another gets it fixed (temporarily) by just turning airplane mode on and off

I have found the problem. "Turn on MIUI optimization" in Developer Options was turned OFF. Turning it ON fixed the receiving of texts. Tried several times turning it OFF and then ON and texts stopped everytime it was OFF. Don't know what this setting does but it needs to be ON to receive texts.

That's weird! I have it off all the time, what it does is
1. Closes apps in memory prematurely, this can be bad or good, unused ram is wasted ram anyway
2. Monitor background services and disabled part of it when you're not actually using it, this killed notifications for certain apps for me, at least back in MIUI 8
There's more, but it's really trivial like UI changes it does, happy it's solved though
Hi Guys,
Ever since me and my wife updated to 9.0, we have been having issues with calling. Caller on the other side cannot hear unless we reboot the phone. Never had this issue during oreo. It's kind of strange that both of us are having the same issue.
This will happen 2-3 days or sometimes a week after reboot out of nowhere. Unless I reboot, other person cannot hear. However whatsapp calling works. it's definitely not a mic problem. Anyone has the same issue or know how to trouble shoot? To reset the phone is one option. I have disabled all apps that Huawei automatically kills due to their stupid battery saving feature. But it hasn't really helped.
Any idea?

Same issue here and its annoying as hell but no fix found yet but ur not alone lol
I've had this also. I hang up and redial, usually works second time round. But the issue is very intermittent.
Could it be a VoWiFi issue?
