I have a T-mobile Note 4 that I use on Cricket/ATT but i have a few questions on what this means:
1. Some one else sim unlocked and rooted the phone so i do not have the unlock code
a. Is there any thing i can do that would some how re lock the phone (ie kies "Emergency firmware recovery" or " firmware upgrade and initialization")
i. i am currently having problems (Issue) But i am worried to do this for fear of re-locking the sim to t-mobile
2. will my phone get Os upgrades (ie Lollypop is coming) if i return it to stock and do not root it how would it get updates? OTA, KIES, Odin, ...
a. does it matter that it is not on the t-mobile network?
3. Is there any features lost by having a t-mobile phone on another carrier?
I'd look at some of these threads:

1a.)You don't want the phone relocked trust me
1.i)You need to Odin Flash back to stock. It will fix the finger print lag issue. Search the General section or the Q&A section for the thread on how do to this. Also look for the CF auto root thread. To re-root your phone when u are done.
2.) You will not get the OTA if you are on AT&T, but you can just Odin flash the update once it is available, or I would just wait for a lollipop ROM to flash.
3.) You can't use the tmobile WiFi calling app or visual voicemail app that come pre-installed on the phone. But with a Google Voice number, you can get both of those features in Hangouts for free on any carrier.

Got an unrooted o2 galalxy s. Got a official unlock code from O2, but appears to be already unlocked as putting any sim (Tmobile. Orange, BTMobile) I am able to make and receive calls and it does not come up with the unlock screen to enter the code as per instructions.
Wanted to unlock as O2 has not upgraded to Android 2.3.6, which I have already upgraded to on another phone. However on Kies show I have latest firmware and does not give option to go to 2.3.6.
do not wan to root etc, but wondered How I get Kies to recognize its not tied to O2 and allow the 2.3.6 upgrade
Note the firmware Kies says is the latest ends with (O2U) which seem to be a O2 particular firmware. How do I get round this as seem not to be truly unlocked/unlinked form O2
I think it will always be viewed as an O2 phone by Kies as that's what it is. Unlocking it does not change the fact that it was an O2 phone and probably has O2 branding.

How can I rebrand it from O2U to XEU without rooting to putting in a custom ROM etc
would Kies reghack and spoofing to think it XEU work or is there a danger of "bricking it".
Not my phone ( mines as 2nd hand one which is has been put XEU by the seller , i Believe, so was able to upgrade to 2.3.6))so do not want to take nay chances. ( other than a very low risk option)
The easiest way is flashing a different firmware using Odin.
Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25722239 to download the necessary stuff and just follow the instructions.
You should backup your data as it might get deleted.
If you just want a 2.3.6 firmware without rooting you can stop after finishing step 3.
don't you need to be rooted for Odin?
No you don't need root to use Odin.
Used Odin and updated OK. Kies does however now says the phone is not compatible with standard upgrades via Kies, think this is because the CSC is still O2U. So any future upgrades ( not expecting any from Samsung) will have to be done outside of Kies..
Thanks for the help.
Hi all,
I bought the Galaxy S6 from AT&T when it came out, but switched over to T-Mobile from AT&T last year. Because of this, I have been unable to get any updates and have been stuck on Android 6.0 when the current release is android 7.0, so I've been thinking of flashing my phone. I was curious as to whether I'm able to flash my G920A with Tmobile's G920T rom? Would it work? And if so, after I flash it, would I be able to receive updates normally from T-mobile's servers, as I'm currently using a T-mobile sim, or would I have to flash every subsequent update?
Thanks
Doubtful, since AT&T has a locked bootloader. If the bootloader was unlocked you might be able to try.

You cannot flash a G920T firmware on a G920A. First off, Odin won't let you because the G920T firmware is only signed to be flashed on the G920T.
And even if you somehow rooted and used FlashFire to force the firmware onto your device, the firmware would brick the device, and without a USB jig or SD card port, the brick would be permanent.

I too am seeking answers on this as I have an SM-920A I brought over to t-mobile. Unlocked the phone, installed the t-mobile SIM and the phone works fine, except, it still has all the old ATT apps I no longer need or desire to be there AND without the T-Mobile apps installed, I cannot use their LTE Signal Booster. Is there any way I can install these t-mobile apps that would have come with the SM-920T load?

Just do this and remove the AT&T apps you don't want completely.

Hey All -
As a newbie I'd like to get some clarity as it's a little unclear to me still....I almost purchased a Note 8 from my carrier (AT&T) and
prefer to remove all the bloat so I wanted to get more details before finalizing my purchase. So the phone would be a Snapdragon CPU and carrier locked - which isn't a big deal for me. My goal would be to install pure Samsung firmware and be able to receive updates from Samsung without waiting for the carrier and remove the bloat.
Btw, I did a forum search and found something close but it was a Verizon related topic.
So my questions:
1) Is this possible without tripping knox?
2) What is lost between stock firmware and carrier firmware other than bloat? I'm assuming all the bands and network features keep working as before.
I'm also assuming since the IMEI number is an ATT branded phone Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE is not lost or is CSC uploading still required with stock firmware?
Thanks!

There isn't much bloat on them anymore these days. Yes, anything you do will prompt Knox. You can disable almost any app now without rooting the phone, so no root is needed at all for that purpose. Just disable it in settings, or if not allowed on a specific app to do that, just install "BK Disabler" from the play store.

Galaxy Note 8
I've flashed the stock rom through Odin and fairly certain it didn't trip Knox or any issues that aspect since my company verifies Knox compliance.
With the stock rom I get my hotspot through AT&T which I couldn't on the AT&T rom, I just used the tutorial on here to flash it with no problems. I will get the updates for the U1 when it gets pushed down and have got security updates just fine. You can disable a lot of apps already though on AT&T stock
Oh and you don't lose anything other than the AT&T pre installed garbage that nobody really uses
**edit just checked and yes I'm 0x0 on Knox so it didn't trip it
Sent from my SM-N950U1 using Tapatalk
Yes you absolutely can install the unlocked 950U1 firmware on your ATT device. All the 950U devices are identical and the firmware is 100% interchangeable and will NOT trip KNOX. I'm running for T-Mobile firmware on a Verizon Note8 right now. KNOX is only tripped when you flash unofficial firmware, such as custom recovery and ROM.
There's really not much of a reason to do it though. Theres very little bloat on these, and you will lose VoLTE and WiFi calling by flashing the unlocked firmware.
But if you still want to flash the unlocked firmware, follow this post:

Did you guys who flashed stock firmware get stuck with the 80% battery issue? Cause I thought about it just to get Oreo early but I don't want to lose 20% of my battery. Also have any of you tried to flash a regular update to a carrier note 8 using the update from SD card option?

You only lose battery capacity if your root a snapdragon. Not just by flashing official firmwares.

Hi guys. I bought an unlocked Sprint LG V40 (V405UA). I am from Argentina and it works perfect in my country with my SIM card, but the problem is that it has the Sprint firmware and it is in Android 8.1 and it won't update if i am not with Sprint contract i think. I'd like to have the stock global firmware and get OTA updates (Android pie at least). I see a page called "lg-firmwares.com" with all models firmwares and tutorials, but i am noob in this matter and i don't want to "brick" my phone or lose the unlocked condition. If i follow the "lg-firmwares.com" tutorial and flash the Android pie firmware for my model, can i brick my phone or lock it again? or it is secure and everythink will be ok?
Thanks.

Okay you have 3 ways to do this.
1st. If rooted/Unlocked Bootloader: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v40/how-to/guide-crossflash-unlocked-pie-to-t3944359
2nd If rooted/Unlocked Bootloader: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v40/how-to/guide-make-lg-v40-compatible-lgup-t3953120
3rd I personally haven't tried this yet: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v40/development/lg-1-16-t3967559
With the 3rd one you should just simply be able to flash any KDZ but you should make sure it's compatible first.
But once you Crossflash no more OTA's you would have to download NEW KDZ and flash it over the one your on.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v40/how-to/guide-lgup-root-t3967858 This Guide i made should help you with your 3rd question. That we have seen no you shouldn't loose Sim unlock if it's factory unlocked or if you carrier unlocked it for you after so many months being active with them. You always loose your data when KDZ flashing. You wont get OTA updates if you Crossflash...if you stay with your current rom OTA's should be possible
If you're using a us carrier phone outside of the us, you should just forget about ota. It won't work. Do yourself a favor and learn about the various flash methods. You're gonna need one of them at least to keep it updated.
Thanks guys. It sucks that it's imposible for me to get OTA updates, but at least i can try flashing my phone to keep it updated. I will check the guide and learn more about it then. Anyways i think this is an amazing phone and a bargain for the price nowadays..

Hi i am new here and need help with updating my Samsung note 9 i still have a baseband N960USQS1ARI5 but will like to update to the latest firmware. i'm using an unlocked AT&T phone. can anyone guide me? I'm not sure if updating the firmware will lock the phone and the process to update, do I just update the firmware in stages as the updates were released till i get to the latest update or can i update straight up to the latest? I am thinking of using Odin, is that a safe way to do this? any help will be appreciated. Lastly, can I change from the AT&T firmware to lets say a none carrier based firmware so as to stop seeing the AT&T logo on boot up? Maybe switch to a firmware that supports global or international? Does anyone have links to an unlocked firmware update i can use, as well? Please help!
I must state that the phone never updates automatically as it always says the software is up to date.

to your last point, at&t phones are notoriously bad at updating
factory unlocked phones will remain forever unlocked and phones unlocked that are bespoke to a specific carrier will also remain unlocked even with Odin flashes providing that the method employed to unlock it was legitimate. Some unlock methods employ root and only trick the phone into thinking its unlocked. Well, once you remove root, and thusly the trick, the unlock is gone. I have ran across rare examples where the person swore up and down that they unlocked their phone with a legit unlock code and that it relocked to a carrier once the sim was inserted and initial programming completed, but i dunno. Sounds weird to me, but every person who said this also said that the phone locked to a carrier other than the one it came from originally. Take that for what its worth, but i still mostly stand by the first couple lines of this section of my diatribe
If you want the at&t crap gone, get the N960U1 firmware and flash it in Odin. You will need the modified version of Odin to flash it so it can ignore the 255 errors the phone throws up from flashing firmware for a carrier (or, in this case, no carrier) on to a phone that it wasnt originally designated (not designed) for
go to sammobile.com/firmwares, get the info for the firmware you want to d/l, get the Frija tool or Samfirm and download the firmware thru one of those as theyre literally 5x faster and flash it
