Flashing with Odin keeps failing - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Hey guys, i have a problem
Yesterday i flashed the Note 4 Elite rom. Absolutely loved it but i had charging issues so i wanted to flash stock rom (4.4.4 T-Mobile netherlands) which i downloaded from sammobiles. So i booted into download mode, opened odin and flashed the rom. After a while (when it was done) i got a message that it failed and a red code: SW rev. CHECK FAIL DEVICE:3 BINARY 2.
now my phone cant do anything but boot into download mode. When i try to reboot or reboot in recovery i get the message: "firmare upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.", i've been trying flashing different stock roms, on different usb hubs with different cables for 4 hours but nothing works, can anybody help me out?

and now odin doesn't recognize my phone anymore

Hi
It sounds like you have an issue with your usb port. The fact that you had charging issues before and odin is having trouble detecting your device, I would start there. Have you tried giving the usb port a clean? Good luck.
If you can get a connection to odin, try flashing philz kernel tar, and wipe phone/install new rom in menu

Thanks for your response but that wasn't the problem. When i uninstalled Kies the drivers uninstalled too i think, so i downloaded the correct drivers and odin recognized my phone then. Then i tried to flash a few different stock rom's and after a few fails the german XXUEFNI3 stock rom from sammobile worked!

[Q] Bricked Galaxy S : Download mode corrupted?

Hi everyone
So here it is : No program is able to recognize/detect my Galaxy S i9000M (Bell Vibrant) when it's in download mode, so I can't flash any ROM. My phone is currently fully bricked and unusable. I cannot access to the recovery mode with the three-button thingy or by "adb reboot recovery"
I bricked using Odin 1.8, trying to flash a 2.2 froyo stock ROM from Samfirmware. The flashing went ok, but it failed to reboot. Actually, the screen was turned off and nothing was happening. I figured out it was fully bricked so I made a USB JIG, it worked. I can access my download mode.
I connected the phone to my Windows 7 computer and used Odin to flash back to 2.1 Eclair, with a stock ROM from Samfirmware. It failed (I don't remember the error message, it was a couple days ago...).
I tried with Heimdall Frontened. It had a problem uploading the .pit file, so the flashing didn't work.
Now each time i connect the phone to my computer, Windows (and Heimdall frontened and Odin) doesn't detect it,which means that I can't flash anything on it even though it is in download mode.
I have tried reinstalling like every driver on earth, still not responding.
I tried on another Windows 7 machine and on Ubuntu, the device is not detected.
I tried with different USB cables, nothing happens.
This is my hypothesis (maybe silly) : Could the problem be the Download mode being corrupted?
Whatever... I could use some help from you guys.
Thank you,
Sam
I had/have the same problem.
I installed the Samsung Kies and now my computer recognize my phone again.
But I have still no idea what I need to flash to make my phone working.

That is strange... I tried installing Kies and it didn't detect the phone. And you could just flash any 2.3 stock ROM with Odin I guess.

[Q] Bricked and not recognized by usb..

Hello there,
I am Belgian so i'm gonna try to do my best to find my english somewhere
I have a samsung galaxy s3 mini gt-i8190..
I have tried to flash with odin thru pda BUT it stopped with fail as result..
Then i have tried to put original firmware back the same way but fail again,
then tried again with same original firmware and succeeded..
Phone froze at samsung logo, tried again and now i got the message "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
Ok, so i plug the phone back in the usb cable: Device Not Recognized! (windows 7 ultimate laptop).
I can get in to download mode: still not recognized via usb.
recovery mode DOESN'T work at all (3 button combo) just the error message at the normal boot and the download mode.
So basically i can't flash cause i can't connect, reinstalled drivers, used another pc, same thing...
It doesn't even charge the phone..
Odin mode says:
Product name: GT-I8190
Custom Binary Download: YES (4 counts)
Current binary: Custom
System status: Official
So does there somehow any file exists to put on my sd card to access usb OR a file to go into recovery mode.
Any tip is welcome, will try them all..
Thanks by advance,
yoni089
Have you tried installing Samsung's USB Driver? I know installing kies comes with the USB drivers but just in case. You might want to check if it's properly installed in your computer. Try reseting your counter first with Triangle Away. Please tell me more of what you did.
Click on the thanks button if I helped!
Change usb port and make sure all processes with kies are killed in taskmanager.
Open Odin. Put the phone in download mode and connect usb.
Hello,
Thanks for the reply's
I did install Odin first, when i flashed my phone it failed..
So i decided to install kies to make sure i had the right drivers,
Uninstalled Kies without the drivers. The phone was still recognized back then!!
Flashed it again and again FAIL!
Since then NOTHING works with the usb connection, windows does not recognize my phone "unknown device".
So it doesnt even know what it is..
Uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them, rebooted my laptop with battery out for a minute but nothing works..
Also i tried to connect to another pc but no luck..
So i guess the key on my phone for the driver to find is missing/deleted by flashing and failing..
That's why i asked if there is any file to putt on my sd card to be recognized by my computer.
I did tried many times using another usb port..
Also tried with and without sim card/ sd card.
(btw: does they have to be in there anyway?)
Thnx and grtz,
Yoni089

before flashing, make sure you can see a COM: something when you connect your device.

I know that, my connection worked fine i did see the com: port in odin and it said "added!".
then i started flashing again and suddenly "fail", got the triangle, went back to download mode, tried to connect again and windows OR Odin didn't recognized my phone anymore, device not recognized and no "com:" in odin.
Tried different ports, battery out for a minute, no sim, no sd, reinstalled drivers, nothing works..
That's the point why i made this thread cause i see no solution in this anymore, if i have no usb connection i can't flash ( OR IS THERE A WAY???), if i can't flash i probably can't get usb connection..
thx for the effort

With what you're saying, it seems something has gone corrupt. Maybe a binary or an image. Flashing a rom using your phone might fix this but it's not a 100% success. It might destroy your phone more or fix it. It's a 50/50... :fingers-crossed:

Ok. Many i8190 was delivered without working combo so I thought I should ask.
What happens when you try to enter recovery? (vol+/home/power)
Nothing at all, completely dead?

No kies, correct drivers, tried different ports. Then I don't know. Are you using original USB cable?
I once got a bad flash like you did, but at least Odin detected it and I was able to flash this firmware with repartition, because official stock fw didn't work for me neither.
nuotal you

Cannot root after unbrick by flashing stock rom

I wanted to install CWM 6.0.3.3 on my gm 2 but instead after odin finishes. it auto-reboots ( i forgot to un plug the cable) so instead i turn off the phone. go into download mode. then try again. but it was bricked. i flashed with my stock rom. its back to normal. so i tried to root again.
i got a error:
usb_read() transaction failed
odin: oops!
please help me. i desperately want try thewhisp cm10.1 rom for gm2
sounds like there is a problem with the usb.... drivers are ok as it said transaction failed, means odin can still find the mobile.
EDIT: try odin again but use a different usb port, if that fails then try different usb cable.

[Q] HELP! Download Mode not connecting to mac or win

Hi,
I actually have a really really weird issue with my I9000.
I was trying to recover it fro the known mmcblk0p1 issue.
So I went back to stock firmware even if I knew it would bootloop. All good.
After some days I discovered that I can access either stock recovery and download mode, but the last one won't connect to my computer!!!
I tried a lot of things: changing cable, usb ports, os, computer etc.... nothing works cause the problem is inside the i9000.
So, I'm now thinking in flashing something from the 3e stock recovery, which is the only option I have before a trash the phone...
What do I have to flash? Kernel? Can somebody link me a solution?
Thanx and Happy easter!!!1

Hi Foongaz,
Have you tried using the latest version of Odin? The bootloop is likely caused from a problem with the installation of the rom/kernel or from forgetting to factory reset and wiping cache.
Hope this helps

Hi,
Thanx for the answer.
I tried also Odin 3.09 and 3.07.
My problem now it's not the bootloop but the download mode which is not recognized from the computer.
Odin and Heimdall are probably not a usable tool here.
The only thing which works is the stock recovery, so I may have to install something via update.zip
Best

I see that there is a problem with the i9000 where odin can not detect the device once your phone has been flashed several times. This has happened to my phone before and heimdall (via cmd command) seemed to do the trick. I haven't tried flashing a rom via the stock recovery as the phone needs to be rooted beforehand. You can try renaming zip and flash it but I doubt that this will fix your problem. Try heimdall first, download the latest heimdall suite. Make sure you have the latest usb drivers for your phone using zadig. Then download the latest semaphore kernel which is a .tar folder and inside should have zImage. Move the zImage file into the extracted heimdall folder. Follow the guide over at Cyanogenmod: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd

Same problem as Odin and Heimdall (suite and frontend):
Initialising connection...
Detecting device...
Failed to detect compatible download-mode device.
This happens with three computers: macbook, imac and parallels windows with odin. None of them can recognize I'm in download mode. WTF....
I'm thinking about throw the phone or maybe buying a i9000 broken glass one.
BTW I tried also to rename a .zip file but nothing works, I guess also for the mmc01 problem...
I'm lost....

I guess this is the only pic which makes sense to provide.
As u can see, I can wipe and reset to data factory, but i cannot format internal SD.
Update.zip won't install for this reason of course....
My last thought is: and if I format an Ext SD with these partitions?
-1 reiser
-1 fat fot OS
-1 fat fot update.zip
will the stock recovery let me install the OS on the external SD?
thanx
A
And here of course the pic...

I know I may sound a little stupid here, but if you have an SD card, try reflashing Stock firmware after removing your SD Card through Heimdall. That fixed my problem. Also, You could always try going to the nearest Samsung Service Center. They always fix your stuff. They'll fix your issue for $3
Before you take it to the nearest Samsung Service Center try this, remove battery and simcard then hold buttons for download mode then replace battery while holding buttons.
EDIT: sorry didn't read all the post, so you can get into download mode but your computer doesn't recognize it.

Odin fails after SetupConnection or doesn't get past Initialization

Anyone have any experience with this and any ideas? Trying to flash latest N960U1 firmware from sammobile and following their directions exactly. I have the Samsung USB drivers installed, I'm using Odin v3.13.3, and I reboot into download mode and Odin always fails with after SetupConnection or gets stuck at Initialization. I tried rebooting my computer, rebooting the phone a few times, restarting Odin a few times, nothing seems to change. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Make sure you are using the original cable that came with phone. If you are and still having troubles then remove all you USB devices.
I built a new PC recently and couldn't flash which was driving me nuts. Turned out that once I removed the USB hub from PC flashing worked. No I was not attaching phone to hub but to a USB 2 port. The hub was a powered hub but I thought it was working fine without the added power supply but that caused issues with Odin. Put the hub back in place with power to it and now can flash too.
Drove me nuts. I even dug out an old laptop that had Windows 8 on it just so I could use Odin but figured out issue on new PC...
