Testing result of Roms for SPH-L720T (updated Feb. 24, 2015) - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

There is this threads (Tested Roms on SPH-L720T )but unfortunately it seems OP has stopped updating it. So I started this thread trying to keep this topic updated.
Results below are either from my own experience, or from posts by other fellow xdaers.
You are welcome to pm me for new info or corrections. I will try my best to keep this post updated as long as I still own this phone.
Please note, working-non working status or issues should be modem specific. Therefore results from my phone only speak for NG5.
1) ROMs works well:
1.1) Stock NG5, OA3:
1.2) [UNOFFICIAL][5.0.2][CM-12.0] CyanogenMod 12 for jfltespr (2015-01-26 / FINAL: Working
1.3) [LXR22G][5.0.2] Team OctOs Oct-L: Working
1.4) [OFFICIAL] CyanogenMod Nightly Builds for jfltespr
Followings are reported working by others:
1.5) C-Rom 7.1 (#78): some issues where it says digital roaming sometimes. It didn't seem to be as good a connection for LTE as stock rom and it dropped to 3G more often.
1.6) SuperS4 (#80): the newest SuperS4 does have the spark icon.
1.7) BeanStalk ROM (4.4.4): It's completely stable and has just about every possible customization baked right into the ROM including xposed installer.
1.8) SlimKat ROM (4.4.4): keeps the ROM stock, only customize a little, always a rock solid ROM with exceptional support and almost perfect code.
1.9) PacMan ROM (4.4.4):
1.10) Mahdi ROM (says digital roaming instead of Sprint but works perfectly)
1.11) Negalite WonderRom v3 (4.4.2), working with NG5.
2) Roms Not working so well:
2.1) Sacs_Custom_Rom_V3_NG2_9_24_14 : Wifi not working. ktoonez kernel fixes WiFi but with lag. The issue might be modem specific.
2.2) [ROM] [ jfltespr ][ Feb 10 ] AICP - 8.0 - LP 5.0.2_r1 | OFFICIAL NIGHTLIES: Phone runs warm / battery drain
Update: warm/battery issue seems fixed in 3-1 nightly.
Update2: 3-13 nightly introduced tint. I'm back to 3-3.
2.3) 【5.0.1】Google Play Edition 【JFLTE-GPE】, 2-23-2015 build: Phone runs warm / battery drain
(Below are reported by others)
2.4) Triforce + ktoonez kernel to get the WiFi working: FC from time to time though.
TW Lollipop available for play with:
1) Echoe team tw Lollipop rom v43. I tried it out and data works after some tweak. Unfortunately Echoe team has just quit xda.
2) Albe95's rom.
3) sac23's ported rom from 2).

First Thanks for this....
I'm using Negalite WonderRom v3 with no problems.
It is android 4.4.2 though, and it replaced my TWRP 2.8.4.0 with Philz recovery.
I'm waiting around hoping for a TW Lolipop update.
Edit: I am also on the NG5 modem.

Thanks for this. :good: :good:
I think it might be helpful to post links to the ROMs threads?

Will do when I get back to my desktop.

Thank you soooooo much for this list! The people in the "all things SPH-L720T" thread MOD EDIT: Disrespect to forum members removed. Please read forum rules!when I asked for a list of compatible ROMs which didn't break any features, with a dev of OctOS being king prick and basically saying that modding/hacking shouldn't be easy for others because it wasn't easy for him.
For anyone who's doing testing for ROMs on this phone, please be aware of HOW to check if GPS is working - this is a commonly broken feature in custom ROMs for this model. It seems that many ROMs will appear to work fine with your initial location, but when you move around the GPS won't track. I suggest using some form of active navigation program to test while you're traveling. Might be useful to append this to the OP.
I have an NG5 720T... TWRP 2.8.4 worked to root for me, had the same issue that 2.8.5 didn't - however, 2.8.4 didn't work for me the first time, either... I suspect that the data transfer is slower than it appears and it's important to let things "settle" for a few minutes before unplugging/rebooting. When I stopped being anxious and trying to rifle through the rooting process as fast as possible (instead, doing it while cooking) it went off without a hitch.
As an aside, I was wondering if we could also get a list of compatible Kernels.
Last but not least, if I install a custom ROM/Kernel on NG5 and then update to OA3 are things going to break? OA3 is important to me because I intend to use FreedomPop as a provider and ALL of their service is data-based (lots of WiFi calling will be done).

Thanks, info from your op has been added to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=59081315 with credit to shadowcliff.
Please note this quote from my op "This thread/OP (Post 1) is meant to be a centralized summary of all that has been learned about the 720T phone."
I am trying to centralize SPH-720T support as much as possible. Centralizing support is important and good for all of us.
Please understand that Centralization is what has made this thread so helpful to so many, and I would appreciate if you would not try to break this thread apart.

Thanks

Ignore this please. This thread is FOCUSED on ROM experimentation and if anything bgmg is the one stifling progress with the L720T by trying to mandate that his be the only thread about the phone. It's far more efficient to have specialized threads that are LINKED TO instead of the MOD Edit: DO NOT USE PROFANITY, disguised or filtered intention is clear. Intelligent people can express themselves without it that his thread's OP is becoming.
Keep up the good work, everyone.
BTW, has anyone tested EchoeRom? I hear tell there's a jfltespr version floating around somewhere...

I only find v1 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2521870. Would you like to share the link to v3?

You have to use his SVN to get version 3.

@shadowcliffs
I'd like to suggest adding links to the development threads of the ROMs listed in the OP.It's easy enough to find them via google or a forum search, but ease-of-access benefits everyone.

Dirty Unicorns 9.1 jflte
confirmed working

When adding a ROM, please post links to the ROM's thread or home page... Thanks.

It seems there is some drama between Echoe team and xda that Echoe team quited xda. Oh well, our lost.
Now I'm looking forward to Able95's tw lollipop rom and sac23/s port.
BTW, for Echoe rom v43: sms/mms not tested for I'm with Freedompop and data is all I care.

To hell with that "spark wheel".
Lol, not a fan

How in the world were you able to get this to work? I copied my original APNS config when updating, and heavily edited the build.prop file but just couldn't get SMS/MMS working.
EDIT: So since the entire crap storm that is ECHO rom at the moment, I decided to try this on Albe's touchwiz rom, and everything works except sms/mms. You can recieve messages and pics but cannot send anything at all . Had to revert back to GPE

Has anybody had any luck with flashing anything on the OA3 firmware? Everything I have tried including NG5 has broken wifi. I even tried flashing the NON-HLOS.bin. My phone came with OA3.

I have listed roms I tried out in OP. I can say that all cm lollipop roms have working wifi with stock kernel and I haven't seen a tw lollipop rom with working wifi without custom kernel so far.

I guess I need to make a flashable for the L720T OA3 kernel. That might solve the problem if you flash it after the ROM.

Ive seen this many times in rom manager but never flashed it as it wasn't on xda so wasn't sure about it. As far as I can see it's a reliable rom so I wonder why I've never seen it here before????
I installed one rom I found here that was based on it though.
Might give it a shot. OP has given info about it. Anybody else can supply any feedback?

I used the 2.3.3 version and it was very stable and just worked fine as advertised; I'm sure this one is the same. He just focuses on making a very stable, close to stock rom with some improvements here and there. Should be a very smooth rom.

yes.. FFC works. As you know, blandroid has no Google apps pre-installed. There is a gapps package you use (same as with cyanogen). But that gapps package hasn't got the latest Talk.apk
You need to get the new version of Talk.apk yourself. I created a thread and posted a link here.

2.3.5p0 released

Imported CMScreenshot app from CyanogenMod and added a screenshot function to the global power menu. Now screenshots can be taken natively from anywhere by holding down the power menu and selecting "Take Screenshot". Screenshots show up as PNG files in the DCIM/Screenshots directory on the SD card.
Added a setting to disable showing failed lock patterns. Most useful when the "Use visible pattern" option is disabled.
Been using this myself for the past day, very fast, stable and smooth rom, I will be using this as my daily driver from now. Haven't cross any bugs yet.
I can't seem to get this to install from recovery. I always get installation aborted.
Any reason why? I seem to be stuck with Oxygen...

A WORD ABOUT HOW THE GALAXY NOTE 3 WAS BROUGHT INTO THE CYANOGENMOD DEVICE SUPPORT TREE
This was not a magical event where the device is now fully supported on AOSP. Many devs worked very hard for quite some time to get this device working as it stands today (most of it done by the CM dev team). Each dev has done more than just what I'm listing below, but these are the highlights.
@noobnl / Utkanos both worked on the device bring up, config settings, ramdisk and debugging
Cyanogen did most of the kernel work bringing in the needed commits to bring the device up to CAF KK compliance
Arcee helped with some RIL and kernel issues
Slayher helped with debugging and testing
I worked on audio issues and am doing in-progress work on the new NFC chip in VZW/TMO variants
And several others (whom I'm forgetting) helped in other ways

Through the build-up and debugging process, I've been using this as my daily for over a week now. And I can comfortably say.. you won't hate it, but there WILL BE bugs that are being worked out. Worth the flash? Make a backup in TWRP and find out.

This is why you are the man. Thank you so much for this, finally I can get rid of TouchWiz. I just really like PURE Android, the way it's intended to be. The Note 3 as it should only be...
Again thank you.

Thank you very much for this.
Do you have any observations/comments/feedback about enabling ART?

It happened to me once yesterday on Sprint cm11. So far, nothing today on this ROM.
Edit: no sooner did I type this than I got a SOD.

Edit: I had a sod while my phone was charging.
I haven't had one yet. I enabled developer options, then went into performance and my min processor speed was set to 1728 so I dropped it down to 300 and set to conservative. So far so good!

Way cool, will backup can test what's listed as working and see if i can find more of what's not working.
Thanks
Has changed the default language en_US.Update rom url
Not bad!
So I gave this test ROM a try. It's nice to see KitKat running on an Atrix 4G! I'm so excited to see some progress!
However, there are definitely several issues with it. The problems I found are:
Calls/text doesn't work
Mobile data doesn't work (says AT&T 4G but no connection)
SuperSU doesn't appear to work (crashed when opening and wouldn't let an app have root access)
Bluetooth didn't turn on for me (but I see you seemed to get it working, maybe it was just bad luck)
No WIFI (doesn't scan as you stated in the post)
Couldn't test any apps or camera because I couldn't restore my apps without root, and the camera must be a part of gapps now, which I also didn't install.
I was also gonna post some screenshots but it wouldn't let me snapshot (said storage error?)
Just thought I would sum up my experience so far. Thanks for letting us test out this promising new ROM! :good:
why need to test this ROM if K did not update his kernel from GitHub? had all same issues isn't it?

K's kernels are CM9 and CM10.1 based. This is a CM11 based kernel with a build date of 6 Aug 14
Calls - No go
BT (file transfer) - Go
Wifi - same as OP reported
Battery - same as OP reported (There's no way that after 8 hrs it should still be at 100%)
Speakers/Headphones - No go
Apollo/DSP Manager - Crash
Ravilov's Battery Fix app - scripts not able to be executed
Thanks!!!
Mobile data seems to be working, Bluetooth and superuser. ART included, I'll do more testing later.
thank for the rom!

Don't be harsh to K, as I was fixing audio segfault in CM 4.4.4, the more I realized most of the audio problem (like Skype, Bluetooth error) is more ROM related than Kernal related. Most of them are due to incompatiblity of hardware HAL files in our unfinished Moto's 4.0 rom...... Of course Mobile Data HAL is sill PAIN IN THE AXX... ...

And what about to use - for now - the old kernel like epinter's CM10?, in XOOM kitkat they use and old 2.x kernel too, the hardware acceleration its not really a problem compared to use and unfinished kernel with more issues to solve.
Anyway we agree that Kristianp is doing it's best work to continue developing the 3.1 kernel, so any negative comentary should not be allowed as most of us are only users and some cooperate with minimal things.
I could boot my second atrix, now time to BL Unlock, root, etc and it's ready to test some KK roms.
It's great to see the "4.4.4" in the settings
Mobile internet works fine.
Kitkat feels quite snappy on this "too old, too slow" hardware.
Thank you so much for keeping the Atrix alive.
Will try to install the Play Store and test out some apps!
cannot wait to try this!
Booted up fine and looks slick. had to do some searching around to find how to switch to ART.
Also had to use Z's recovery_4.3.img... ROM won't install with TWRP.
Wish I could do more testing like battery but it's not feasible at the moment.
Looking forward to other releases to test.
Really love the tons of options available in KK.

I think 2.6... not so sure.
TWRP 2.6.3 gives errors and aborts installation.

I believe, based off of what i've seen, 2.6.3.0 is the minimum to flash 4.4 ROMs, but 2.7 is reccommended.
Sent from my MB886 using xda app-developers app
There's no 2.7 for Atrix and apparently there's also no 4ext Recovery, so the only ways are CWM or Z's recovery (will try Z's on Monday or Tuesday)

Thank friends test feedback .
Apply a new job, computer is not in my city, so the update rate slow down (my technique is limited).
I look forward to Z 4.4.4

Leaked Marshmallow 6.0.1 Beta Firmware Discussion thread

Hello to everyone!
A couple of days ago a leaked MM beta firmware for the international variant of the SGS5 (G900F) was received as an OTA update by one lucky guy from Ukraine.
Since then he managed to make a TWRP backup and share it with us.
The only problem was that when flashed it would make the phone enter in a bootloop because the Bootloader (BL) was missing.
Also root was harder to achieve since the old methods seemed not to work on this build.
The developer thread for this ROM is located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development/samsung-s5-sm-g900f-6-0-1-official-t3311188
To keep it clean from various questions I thought it was a better idea to make this thread for the normal users so we can share low-level informations about that topic without interferring with the devs discussion.
Hope you will join me here in the discussion.
Thank you everyone!
Thanks. People said rude comments about me. I was only curious. Here is better to talk.

That's becuase since yesterday you'r posting the same shi... , we told you to stop, but you kept... You are all the time saying things like that : "Is he online?" "commn upload it". Don't be a kid.
Sorry
OK, I must say I'm a little disappointed by what I've seen in that leaked firmware.
At the same time I think that all the good changes are "under the hood".
Doze is OK and I think the UX will be smoother from what I've seen in other MM firmwares from LG and Sony.
Unfortunately the "Themes" engine is missing. It would have been cool to have it.
Anyone knows if in the leaked fw the shoot RAW option is available in the Camera app?
EDIT: the guy who received the update confirms that battery life is better and that the per-app-permission feature is present. So the "under the hood" tweaks exist
Ah very nice. This is a nice thread to discuss things. Does anyone know if a bootloader can be flashed by TWRP or is Odin necessary?
And guys, please stop attacking each other. It gives any thread a negative vibe. I could not care less if anyone finds himself a dev or not.

I have read a post by Tamirda or Geiti this firmware would be excellent base to build a S6 rom. Maybe that would be the true power of this firmware?
I'm disappointed about this update too. Nothing changed except icons :/
I don't understand why they didn't adapt GS6 UI on our GS5. Is just graphical effects, I don't think it's complicated to change xD.
I will try anyway this beta leaked but If the final version won't bring features like GS6 UI or Themes, I'll say bye bye to sammy

I honestly would prefer a S5 based rom, as there are already many other s6 & note 5 bases already. Dare to be different?

The TWRP recovery has the option to backup the BOOT partition so I believe that we can also flash a different boot backup as long as it's compatible with the phone
In the same time the BL is usually included in the single tar file that we use when flashing a stock fw via Odin.
So in the end I think it depends on how the release will be packed: either as flashable zip via TWRP or as a .tar file flashable via Odin.
The important part is that the new BL to be included
I also prefer 6.0 based on st. Not to look like s6

I think it would make an excellent base to build a clean MM firmware for the S5.
I'm staying on stock-based ROMs because I need the camera-quality.
In AOSP builds the camera quality is poorer and there are also some TW-based-goodies missing.
The Themes-engine would have been a nice addition just because we get tired of the same UX and that was a chance for us to change it without flashing custom ROMs or using 3rd party launcher.
But if it's missing it will not be a deal-breaker for me.
I'm looking forward to that Doze feature.
Just imagine how a MM barebone stock-based ROM for the S5 would fly!
Also the battery life would be better.
I have high hopes with this firmware.
With a little patience, tweaks and luck we could expand the life of the SGS5 for another year until the SGS7 will become cheaper.
So now devs can make finally a good kernel for s6/note5 6.01 MM port rom..with the s5 6.01 kernel...
I posted on the official thread by mistake and will ask here. Does this work on G900W8 also? I was able to run pre-release 5.0 last year when it was just for G900F, but that was already bundled into a ROM. I know the devs will be working on getting the code into roms, but was just wondering

Hi, mate! From what I've read the only difference seems to be the bands.
Apart from that the ROMs seem to be compatible except the fact that you can't flash them via Odin.
You need to flash them as .zip from a custom recovery.
So if the ROM will be packed as a flashable .zip file you are in luck
Here is the link to the thread from where I got these informations: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714132&page=3
Hope it helps! Cheers!
Isn't battery optimization the same with Doze mode which we have on the current, latest firmware? Google introduced battery optimization a.k.a. Doze mode on Marshmallow while Samsung had it on Lollipop since Note 4 and rolled out to other devices like the S 5.

[ROM][Official] Vanir & Commotio [JFLTESPR][7.1.2]03-07-2018

Vanir and Commotio Nougat 7.1.2 for Sprint Galaxy S4
Not gonna make a fancy thread here or pretend to be a maintainer or developer . Just thought some of you might be interested to know that Nuclear Mistake and DHO of Vanir team have been building Nougat for this device for a few months and are still actively building . I've been running both roms for 5 months and both run superbly . Right now the newest Vanir build is 05-09 and Commotio is 05-28 . The sweet thing about these two roms is you can dirty flash them over each other . In fact I was running Vanir until a few minutes ago and flashed Commotio over it , No issues .
Since no one has mentioned it I decided to make a thread for discussion , to help with any problems or to answer questions . I mean everybody can chip in and help each other . Commotio is more of the cutting edge experimental rom . It's DHO's side rom where new features , rom changes are incorporated first for testing so it could be a little more apt to hiccup from time to time . Very seldom have I had any issue with it but I do log bugs and stuff for DHO and he usually fixes things fairly quickly . Vanir is more of the refined rom . Both currently have the May security patch .
On to the vital info ..
Link to the Vanir G+ community is https://plus.google.com/communities/111378032131473754160
Link to Nukes Vanir builds http://www.emccann.net/nuclearmistake/VanirAOSPNightlies/
Link to DHO's Commotio builds http://www.emccann.net/dho/3-Vanir-mirror/4-nighties/
Both have substratum , everthing I use in a rom pretty much works flawlessly . Maybe you'll use a feature I don't and find an issue . If so report it here and lets log it . Both roms are gorgeous , substratum and other updates are kept up to date which is very important for substratum theming . I use open gapps and I haven't had a problem with these roms for months . Hope this helps you out there if you happen to be looking for a good current rom that's updated frequently with vital updates and monthly Google security patch for this device.
I've been running Vanir and Commotio for a good 3 years . Both Nuke and DHO are real pro's and usually out with new Android versions as fast as anyone and when you look at the rom link you'll see they build for a ton of devices .
Alrighty ya'll , nuff said for now ...

My service is working fine in the USA on Sprint/Ting . Where are you located and are you on the Tri-band or regular S4 ? Your best bet would be to inquire at the Vanir G+ community to see if they can accommodate your specific need . Like I said , it's working perfect for me here .

I'm from Uganda and it still not working with most of custom roms, and also the wizCyan s6 port(a little fair though. just has cell service drop) and I have the sprint s4 I think its unlocked that's how I'm able to use local networks but on stock roms only
Using Commotio with open gapps pico on my FreedomPop S4 and has been working great! Also applied FreedomPop APN patch (by habit) but I don't think I needed it.
I no longer have the data drop outs, nor do I have to reboot to bring data back online.

So I downloaded and installed the latest commotio, and it all seems to work except for the phone. I can make and receive calls, but no one can hear my voice on the other end, either using the microphone built into the phone, or a headset. Any suggestions?

I was able to resolve the issue by updating from the 7/8(ish) version to the 7/18
Why have I never heard of this Rom? How well does it work with the SPH-L720T? I'm on lineageOS 7.1.2. Extremely laggy with no lte. I wonder if I can dirty flash over it? Thanks

Its fully shutting off. I have this problem with both vanir and commotio. I has something to do with magisk. I run the magisk uninstall and disable the manager. It temp fixes it but u can't have root or install certain apps. Wish they would release builds without magisk too.
I've tried both versions of this custom ROM and it's still nomas on functional a

I was having a bunch of issues with this and other ROMs when I initially tried installing them from other ROMs. But what got it to finally work perfectly is flashing the stock firmware onto the phone then rerooting it and flashing it clean.
Now I use my phone is with no issues.
