Hi guys, I'm currently using a jailbroken iPhone 6 plus, and I'm thinking about jumping to the nexus 6. Had many android phones before. There are some things thought that I've read, and are bothering me! So I thought I'd ask a few questions..
Are the pink screen & screen burn a common issue with the nexus 6?
How's the battery life? Does it have a battery saver mode similar to the Sony Xperia's range?.
Is the camera really that poor?
Are there any build quality problems?
Cheers for your time guys.

This is my first Nexus phone and I don't have any of the issues that are discussed here. Battery life, for the way I use the phone, I can typically get 2 days from a charge. Even under heavy usage I have never had to charge mid day.... Heavy usage will still leave me with 40 to 50 % in the evening. I don't typically leave it on the charger over night but there are other that do.
I guess it depends a lot on what you do to the phone, haven't unlocked or rooted it yet so not much to mess it up. I had 1 random reboot after about 155 hours of uptime so I try to reboot a couple times a week. All in all I am pleased with the phone... just my 2 cents..

1) screen burn I've never seen but it in theory is possible
2) pink screen is a bi-product of setting your brightness to minimum whilst on auto. Its because its not possible to be that dim without dampening the white. It isn't an issue. Its just not possible to be that dim and also be whiye
3) great, surprisingly
4) yes, android lollipop has a battery saver built in by default
5) like any camera on a phone it won't make an amazing photographer out of a crap one. That said, the camera is fantastic. Look at some of our shots in the general thread for posting photos
6) not for me but surely there will be some as there is on every single thing ever made. Ever..

1) yes it's common
2) I hear stock kernel battery is ok not very good. but if you use custom kernel it will be increased alot.
3) camera is good in sunny outside. but still slower auto-focus comparing to iphone or Samsung. In low light, auto focus is just pure terrible.
3) only build quality issue I have is vibrator rattle. And mine is fine but i see alot of uneven color on the screen. I ended up turning off all vibration setting. Motorola in general don't know how to make phones right.
Do you guys think it's a worthy replacement for my iPhone 6 plus?

Difficult question to answer. Many of us would put most android phones above the iPhone. Especially here where we are the type of people who like to customise their phones massively. Even a jail broken iPhone pails in comparison to the options available to rooted users here. I don't want to put words in everyone's mouths but iPhone are restricted massively.
You would probably get better answers on an android user forum instead of a specialist android developer forum.
From a usage point of view, you may miss slow mo if you use it. Other than that, I personally feel that the n6 p*sses all over the 6 plus - but that is completely subjective. Who knows how much you'll even like android versus iOS
Well if this were a straightforward which should you buy question, without a doubt I would immediately say Nexus 6, however you've already spent a gajillion pounds/ dollars on your, actually brilliant (regardless of whatever fanboys say) iPhone 6+, and there is nothing at all bad about the 6+, the one fault for me is the fact that it only has 1GB of ram and iOS 8 needs 2gb for certain functions, but saying that, iOS 9 is set to be an optimisation update (like jelly bean or kitkat were for android) to reduce junk code, legacy code and unnecessary stuff rather than just chunking on extra stuff , and they really want to iron out the kinks, so I think that once that comes out your iPhone 6+ will be both super fast as it is already but pages and apps will last linger in the ram, so if that's a non issue or you don't mind waiting for that update then you're golden with your current handset. Most android apps are available on iPhone and run pretty much the same, some things even launch faster on an iPhone than they do on a nexus, of course the advantages of a nexus are that even out of the box you can customise far more than you can on an iPhone even with jailbreak. For me that's a non issue, when I was a few years younger I loved to do weird and whacky things with my droids and jb idevices, but now I just want stable, working, fast devices, I love my nexus 6 and wouldn't trade it for any other handset out there, but if I had an iPhone 6+ I would be over the moon with that too and wouldn't even bother with jailbreak as I just love it to work well and iPhones work really well, if you are really desperate to have an android device you could get a nexus 9 or nexus 7(2013) and have the best of both worlds and save a little cash.
While you have iPhone, check out Garage band, the infinity blade games, pixelmator and similar apps that are exclusive to iOS. Don't change over until next year's nexus phone is released, that's my advice, the iPhone is great and will only get better with iOS 9.
I hope this helps.

True but you're a minority, my advice was to someone who doesn't live and breathe coding and developing, people with your highly respected talents would probably either never touch an iPhone or would spend their days eating caviar with Musclenerd and Geohot
To the majority of the tech-savvy population there is no big reason why iOS cannot fulfill all of their needs. Netflix, Facebook, instagram, photography, video editing, gaming etc is pretty much all the same across both systems, it's only the specific kind of power-user that usually also tends to be an android fanboy and/or a developer that cannot settle for an iPhone to meet their usage needs. Sure I'd always recommend android over iOS unless the person really needed a simple device however my impression is that if this guy is asking the question, he doesn't NEED the dev friendly capabilities of an android device (or he wouldn't need to ask) and therefore to buy a £600ish phone when he already has a recently released £600ish phone is just a complete waste of money, even if he were to sell one for the other, the losses incurred are probably not even worth it. If it was an iPhone 5S, however, I'd say jump

what screen burn? ive had mine since november, and no screen burn.
Same, no screenburn whatsoever here and I use my device constantly - the soft buttons, battery icon etc have not burnt in at all. It's like asking "how bad is the 6+ bending?" A few people had the problem with the first batch of phones and it got blown out of proportion.

I dont think any of us said screenburn was an issue
Or just do what I did and keep both.
Actually be careful here or you will wind up with a drawer full of phones, sim card adapters, cutters, a laptop dedicated to customization, the list goes on and on. The wife acceptance factor isn't the greatest but when the alternatives are thrown on the table(drinking, spending much more money on pro sports tickets or tools, you know "man things") they usually back off.

I agree except that the 6+ has a better camera but the differences are negligible. You can snap a great shot on both though.

All the BLIND tests (only sane way to compare when the devices are so polarizing) result in Nexus 6 besting apple by a landslide.

I'm planning on buying a xperia z, but with all upgrades there's a few things I have to check before I can commit on buying a new phone.

2 - battery performance on stock firmware ?

The battery life is pretty bad OP to answer your question honesty. Also the screen is poor, which may bother you. (very bad contrast and viewing angles). Aside from that it is good. Great design, definitely turns heads
Go look at battery tests, S4 sits as one of the top.
Also op, if you get one without an unlockable bootloder (like myself), you'll never even get to try cm
Well I had 7 h screen on time, and one day < battery. Way better than my sgs2 had.

yep, two people on this site get battery life like this...
Seems legit.
Go check any battery tests on gsmarena, etc.. Did not fare especially well.
I mean it isn't horrid, but 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours of screen on time isn't anything to write home about
Depends
Depends on how you intend on using it.
If you're a avid gamer, then I probably would not recommend it. Battery life when gaming is average or below average.
However if you're not, and gaming is reserved for the tablet, then I highly recommend it.
Aside from being one of the most beautiful phones out there, you can get it for quite a good price now. Performance is, honestly, all you really need at the moment.
Despite what people say, the screen is very sharp (admittedly viewing angles are not the best, but it's not a concern for me as I pretty much always view it front on. Also when you think about it, you get more privacy).
Battery life is not bad at all (if you don't run heavy games all the time). On screen time varies and can be between 3.5 - 5 hours or so, but don't be obsessed with the times though, just enjoy it. Unless you have nothing to do all day then it's quite hard to run out of battery during the day. Talk times and quality are pretty good.
Loving my Z, I can't say that this phone is the best at anything, but all together as a package it's quite awesome. Waterproofing is a bonus.
Give it a 0.2 mm thick back cover, custom rom, maybe a sound mod and I guarantee you won't regret buying one!
Coming from my beloved ville, I'm just looking at phones with 2gigs of ram and a quad cpu, and good dev support. its between these 4 phones at the moment
-nexus 4 (mainly for support and xda support)
-s3 i9305 ( better then the s3 as it was an extra gig of ram)
-note 2 (big ass screen)
-Sony xperia z (1080 screen)
Im not the hugest phone gamer, i mainly use my device for Instagram, tumblr, and other networking apps. Iv watched a few reviews on all 4 phones and I'm kinda leaning towards the s3 and the sony ATM. Its just the screen problems (battery drain, and poor viewing angles)

My advice is not to be overly fussy about what you're looking at. By the time you decide, a bunch of new phones will be released and you'll have to start all over again.
IMO all 4 phones have all the goods you need to do what you want. For what you want to do, battery life on all 4 would be sufficient for a whole day.
They are really not all that different unless you go into the tiny details. Honestly, in my experience, being overly focused on the details will make you regret your purchase no matter what you buy.
I understand why iPhone lovers can be much less stressed with their phone choice because there is really no choice for them. I prevents them from feeling bad about making the wrong decision We all know that the iPhone is not the best but it's owners are happy. For android lovers there is a paradox of choice........ which in this case is a bad thing.
So try to look at it a different way.
Since it will be with you everyday, think about which phone matches you as a person, just like when you're choosing clothes, or a car. E.g if your practical or stylish. Reckless or careful etc.
I got the Z because I like style. You may think it may be a bit superficial but the viewing angles are really irrelevant when you think about it. When would you ever need wide viewing angles anyway? It's not like you have a group of 4-5 friends watching a movie on it all the time (if at all). I don't see anyone tilting their phones at an angle to use it. TV, yes, but phone, no. Everything is pretty much on par with the rest of them (except for maybe battery life on the Note 2, but it's too big IMO)
Trust me. Thinking about it this way will allow you to enjoy your phone more and not regret buying it.
If you ask me, I would recommend the XZ, S3, Nexus 4, Note 2 in that order.

It isn't just viewing angles though, the screen is extremely washed out looking with bad contrast.
But view angles matter if, for example, your phone is laying down on your desk and you turn it on to glance at the time, a text message, etc.. It isn\t extreme angles, it is unreadable if you aren't looking at it directly on.
I own a note 2 and this phone, I wish I could have the two make a baby.
I love the design of this phone, but the screen really gets me down :/
Spending that much money, you shouldn't have to "settle"

well... at first my s4 got 4 hours of screen time (set on low brightness) after a couple of months it was 2,5.. the samsung batteries are very bad..
the screen is poor... yes... but i like it better, the screen is more visible in the sun compared to the s4... i dont really like the oversaturated screen of the s4 anyway... so win win
great design... that is one of the things.. and waterproof... that was actually why i wanted to change... on my s4 i always ended up hitting the screen when touching the damn buttons and it made me angry in the end.
what amazes me.. is that the camera is the same but samsung has made a better firmware.. the camera works very well on s4.. and the z has a very poor camera compared... focus is not great, black dots etc, low light grain and such... EXMOR surely is just a name.. not worth anything imo

Strange must have been a rogue app, I've had my note since it came out and battery life is the same as it was.
You can change to natural mode in screen settings to completely get rid of the oversaturation.
I definitely agree the z's design is amazing. Easily one of the nicest, if not the nicest, looking android phones there is.
What I don't get is why there is macro mode on Samsung but not Sony :/

It's a good phone for the price. It's got a sd slot which is always appreciated. Performance is fine and it's got 2gb ram, that will make it last at least 2 years.
The screen is fine for me. Yes, viewing angles aren't great but nothing to worry about, unless you watch very dark movies at night.
Battery is average, standby time is quite good, screen time goes from 2h - 5h depending on what you do.
Haven't tried cm10.2 but Sony stock firmware is quite vanilla.
It all depends on what do you want, how much do you want to spend, etc.

well... the phone was deep sleeping properly... so i dont know why the battery was that bad... at least now i can say that my phone has used 60% for 2 hours 10 minutes screen time, 1 hour of calls, sms and web usage... with 2 days of standby... i am not unhappy with that.

...amazing hardware! I got my N5 a couple of days ago (bought at launch hour, used comGateway to forward it to India, takes time ) and so far I've been playing with it non-stop (have a few exams prep leaves ), and here are my impressions so far.
My background: I'm a huge Nexus fanboy, I own (or have owned) every Nexus device with the exception of Nexus Q and currently possess fully working Galaxy Nexus (16GB), Nexus 4 (16GB), Nexus 7 (2012, 16GB) and Nexus 7 (2013, 32GB) all bought more or less at launch along with a Galaxy Note and Galaxy S2. My device before was my N4 bought at launch and it was great, but I can't simply skip my temptation to get the new N5, so I did. I don't care about the price, I can very well afford a phone far more expensive. I buy Nexus devices because I love the pure stock experience they bring, it just somehow feels better to me.
Note: I've been using N4 exclusively before this for almost a year, so all my views are in relation to it.
My device: White Nexus 5, 32GB. Pure stock with an unlocked bootloader and rooted.
The Good:
Bigger, better screen! The screen is taller without being (much) wider, and it's gorgeous! I know some people are saying colours are washed out etc, but that's just the IPS display which I'm used to, plus when colour control gets modded into kernels that won't be much of a problem. It's a lot sharper than my N4 and definitely brighter]
Performance! It has the highest binned Snapdragon 800! Need I say more? It can smoke anything out their
Storage is a welcome improvement, sometimes I had to choose between games on my N4 but with double the storage I don't have that problem (atleast for a while )
Camera is a lot more improved than the one on N4, I haven't tested it too thoroughly but it's definitely improved especially in low light conditions
KitKat and GEL are a welcome change, I like the subtle UI improvements and I love the fact that BT audio and software audio levels are not two different things anymore, that used to drive me crazy
I love the white version's looks and build, I was torn what to get when purchasing this from the Play Store but decided to go with the white since it's different. The speaker grill adds a really nice touch IMO and back has a good feel to it. Personally I'd prefer a little more build, but with the ceramic sides and everything it's nice, definitely not cheap.
The Okay:
Battery life, meh. This was expected, it's slightly better than N4's but still not great. On my first run I was able to get out about 2 hours of SOT with 1 hour of GPS, 1 hour of audio over BT, and a lot of updating/downloading games. So that's not bad, N4 lasted me a day and I don't see N5 doing any worse, if anything it'll do better when I switch to custom kernels
Speaker is an improvement but nothing great
The Ugly:
Camera shutter lag, I absolutely hate this. Maybe I'm crazy or something but I hate that it takes a lot of time to click pictures, with the chance of entirely blurring out the picture when given to someone else. Hopefully something improves this
No always on listening , I was hoping for this feature from Moto X
TL;DR: Get the freaking device. It's awesome. And get it in white, seriously.
Lmao you got me with the thread title.
Very clever! Good thread!
Google should make a COMPLETELY new camera app, and upload it to the Play Store for everyone to enjoy. And they should do that quickly. Current camera app is terrible! (The shutter lag it because of the software, not the hardware)
Can 3rd party camera apps help or is this only a google issue?

Yes! Just found this last night and played around with it:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spritefish.fastburstcameralite
The quality is a little less than the regular camera, but there is zero shutter lag. The paid version is $2 and it allows you to tap focus and take nicer pictures when you want to. Will still need the standard camera for HDR+ mode (which takes excellent shots that this can't touch).

Hi Everyone,
I've had this phone for a good week now and got some pros and cons:
Pros
- The screen is absolutely beautiful. One of the default wallpapers is the view of a mountain with a pinkish hue - the detail is unbelievable
- The overall response time of the UI is fast as all hell
- the feel of the phone in my hand is amazing. the rubbery back (black model only) and sharp sides is beautiful
- I have not had any issues with camera. I think the pictures and video quality is fantastic. Shutter speed might not be as fast as some other phones, but im sure that can be fixed with software/roms
Cons
- Battery is random. One day i will have 2h of screen on time, 1h phone call and battery will last me 18+ hours. The next day, i will have 1h of screen time and phone will drop to 60%. My battery is currently at 68% with 5hours off charge and 1h of screen time and 1h of phone calls
- the vibration function is outright useless. I can barely feel it when i type, let alone when its on a desk and in vibe only mode
- Call quality is some what random. Sometimes the person on the other end can't hear me properly until i move my phone slightly further away from my mouth, or sometimes closer. When that happens, they say that it sounds like im talking in a tunnel.
- the Exchange email app / email.apk is very frustrating. It looks nicer than it did on 1.5 - 4.3, however it force closes very often and using the Reply All button on an email automatically adds myself to the CC, which is very frustrating. That being said, im sure the excahnge email itself has a lot of drain on my battery too, so keep that in mind when you comment on my battery usage
- I have the power button rattle too. Not too much of an issue, but still a con
- I've also had 3 or 4 cases where i lost all reception and only a reboot brought it back. I also came to my phone and found it shut off once...
Now, i dont have any real problems with the speaker quality. its not bad, but its not HTC One quality either. to me, its perfectly fine, but i know others said they have issues.
I have vibration issues, and they have speaker issues. I have a black one, they have a white one. Coincidence?
What are your thoughts on my comments above?

For someone who is currently waiting for my Nexus 5 to ship (on 3 week backorder), this is discouraging. Right now I still have the ability to cancel the order but I could really use a new phone. Problem posts like these really make me wonder if I should keep waiting for this phone...
Had mine for 2 weeks. No problems here. I'm liking it more every day. Cheers

I know the feeling. I have received the phone 5 days ago and until that I was reading posts like this one. Until I got the phone I had low expectations but that was a good thing because right now I'm very happy with my Nexus 5. Stop reading about problems and start doing things that you love. When the phone will get home you will agree with me...
My experience
I'm sorry your having many problems with your phone.
I actually really like mine. Is the black one to.
I did a full battery calibration and I had 5 hours of hardcore screen time.
Vibration on mine is OK. But it makes the camera(Not the power button) rattle. But i hardly notice.
I like the speaker but I hope they improve the quality with an update.
My only complain would be the camera shutter. It is to damn slow.
Some mobile data connection lost but i think that is my carriers fault.
I'm really Happy with mine. And for the price this is an incredible phone. No stutter whatsoever on demanding games. It doesn't get as hot as my old Galaxy S3. Great media companion in my car and bluetooth 4.0 sips battery.
I totally recomend it.
P.S. Sorry for bad english.

Ice Cream Sandwich made Android approachable to the masses, and KitKat is the OS grown up. ART, when it goes mainstream and optimised even more, will make it VERY hard for any OS to beat. I also love that Android is being developed to ensure older devices are compatible, possibly reducing device waste through re-purposing.

Yes ICS was the base of what the OS is now no doubt, but I find kit Kat to be really amazing. I mean the nexus 5 is so smooth and fast and the UI is simple and super clean. I much prefer the white theme over the holo blue.

Hi all,
Im new to the forums and I'm after some serious information on the OnePlus 3 and Android in general.
I currently have a iPhone 6 Plus (128GB) and (in theory) could have upgraded to the iPhone 7/Plus as I buy my phones every two years outright.
I've been toying with the idea of getting the OnePlus 3T and passing my iPhone to the Mrs as she has an iPhone 5 (16GB). I really don't fancy forking out £819 to get the equivalent of my current iPhone when I could get a OP3T for £439 (128GB).
My options are keep my iPhone or get the OP3T and would like your opinion.
I'm sure someone on here could provide me with an idea of what Android is like as I've never used it before and what it's like switching from iOS.
I must admit that I'm more invested with Google than Apple. I do have an iPad and MacBook but I don't use iCloud and I'm not too bothered about iMessage and FaceTime as Whatsapp is what I tend to use and I use Google for most services (Gmail, Drive, Contacts, Calendars, Maps and Photos).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Andy
For what you described imho oneplus 3t and iphone7 are overkill...
If you want a good stock-ish android experience you can go for op3t. It is not one of those phones where if you are not satisfied somebody will tell you "of course, as an android newbie you should have gone for smartphone xy".
For some reason that I can not grasp with my stupid little mind some people who switched from iOS to Android just don't like the UI and find it too complicated. While I don't understand how a simple menu can be complicated at all, I honestly know that feeling, since whenever I have to use a Macbook I have an irresistable urge to throw it against a wall and then to burn the house down.
What I am saying is, noone can tell you if you will like it.
i went from iphone 6s+ > nexus 6p > op3t
I just switched over from a 7plus. Its not difficult at all to get used to, you get all the same or almost all the same apps as in iOS. The layout for the menus is easy to get used to as well.

Well I have checked my iPhone and have used 101GB with 19GB remaining so I would like to a phone with 128GB ideally.

Why did you switch from a 7 Plus to the OP3T?
I'm intrigued to know.
Just suggestion.. U can try very low entry Android phone or other older stock Android phone like nexus series to taste the pure stock Android experience before u spend £430 .
One of my friend did that way. It helped. Now he is considering to buy OP3T
i have both phones (7+ and 3T), and considering your current status where you use more google services than apple, i think you will be just fine with 3T as long as you are okay to learn the way android do things. in my opinion 3T has better battery life, and could do much more if you want to tinker a little bit. However 7+ also has it's strong points, like front facing speaker, and camera. for amateur like me that just need a good camera at all kind of condition to take pictures of my kids, 7+ just did the job in auto mode.
I've never owned an iProduct, so you can take my words with a grain of salt. But, my experience so far with the 1+3T is all positive. If you do switch, just be sure to give yourself some time and patience to adjust. Honestly, if you stick around here, maybe you'll come to appreciate Android as much as we do.

I don't really have a concrete reason for switching.. Just had an itch to get this phone and once the 128gb one was available for ordering I just ordered it. After using this phone I am completely in love with it, the only thing I miss from the iPhone is iMessage.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk
I went to OP3T after 2 years with iphone 6 and 6s, I don't miss anything about those two phone because I mostly use google app and youtube. And OP3T gave me far better battery life than ip6 and ip6s, but in your case it's a little different as you have the plus. I was a diehard android user before, so it's easy for me to make decision. Now, Huawei p10 is in my radar except this OP3T hasn't aged yet
I think what is stopping me is that I have always had iPhone's from the 3G and I'm unsure of using another OS.
Also, I noticed on the SGS7 that my friend has that some games were laggy in comparison to my iPhone and that he said it's because of Touchwiz?
I did have a mess around briefly with his SGS7 but not long enough to draw a conclusion about Android as a whole but I didn't really care for that phone.

It will be better if u play around op3t before you buy, and see if games lag or something's you use work without lag or what.
I love this device, but hate iOS so that would be one sided thing.
So some of your friends might have one plus, you should get hands on one for a few hours.
Since everyone has different uses pattern and preference, at last everything comes to what you like or what you don't.
Don't know where you are from, but if u r from Delhi and want to get hands on, pm me.

I'm from the UK and OnePlus is somewhat unknown to a lot of people (well, to most of my friends anyway). A lot of my friends have iPhone's too.
Getting hold of a OP3T is quite hard, I know they have them in O2 shops here but they aren't connected to the internet and I wouldn't be able to use it like it was my own.

And purchase through card, cause PayPal don't have buyer protection.

Mostly I can modify it to my likes.
Get bored of same UI for long.
That's one reason.
Other is for music, I keep it as I like with viper and other audio mods.
And moreover when I use iOS it feels like I lack many options android provides.
Like network settings, hotspots, downloading music, and getting to do backups locally, not on cloud or PC.

well to be honest i went 6p to the 6s+because i was in egypt with my lil brother who is a iphone freak for 2 months he taunted me, so i gave it a try, and after 6 months i wanted to destroy all things apple.
Apple customer service caters to the n00b customer base that they serve. I would literally pose questions to them that they had no answers to. on iOS you can't even arrange photos by date taken or large photos to small photos . once photos are out of order in ur albums there's no way to fix them even if the exif data is on point. bluetooth sucked on ios, it would take 2 mintues for the bluetooth to turn on, and hand offs from music to phone calls was horrendous up to 30 seconds.
It's an inferior product imo, it's made for people who aren't technically inclined, that's not really to say they are stupid but there's a reason the "____ for dummies" book line made millions
The reason I have always had an iPhone was because it always did what I wanted it to do.
People I know who have had Android in the past moved to iOS because they were fed up of their phones breaking for one reason or another.
Here, I can literally take my iPhone a few hundred yards from work into an Apple Store to be fixed if needed which is another bonus.
I take it that has all changed?
Is there anything major that Android can do that iOS can't?
Good day and a happy new year. I am considering a switch from apple again and this is my target device. The things i need your help deciding are the below, in order of priority (for me) :
-Thermals. I have been switching between iphones and androids for many years. And so far all androids i owned (most samsung devices) tend to heat up even with the most normal of uses. My last switch from s7 edge to Iphone 6s Plus was purely due to that. You could feel the device back heating just from surfing on wifi indoors. Please advise how the Note 9 performs in this task.
-Camera . It is widely said that Note 9 camera does not handle motion at all . For example , shooting a person that moves or an animal, will surely result in a blurry photo. Just how bad is the situation ?
-Background applications resource usage . In my last experience with android (s7e 7.1) just about any application could run any way it wanted and hog resources/battery without any consent whatsoever. I get the benefits of multitasking but if the trade off is me losing control of what is going on i need to take it in consideration. Please advise how the Note 9 performs in this task (current android version it runs atm).
-Storage speed . iPhones over 6+ are using nvme type flash storage wich is stupid fast. I cannot find any nand benchmarks for the note 9 exynos model. Any info on that? Also what type of nand does it use(very important for future proofing).
-Processor .I n my region the only note 9 available is the one with exynos (SM-N960F). how does it perform compared to the snapdragon variant ?
-GPS . As you may have heard, iPhone GPS accuracy and lock speeds are out of this world. Is note 9's performance in this area satisfactory? (again for the exynos model).
- Any one here switched from iphone to note 9 ? Maybe you could share something that you would consider useful to know beforehand ?
So sorry to hit you with that wall of text but for me €800+ for a phone is kind of a big deal (for my current financials). That is mostly why i had to rule out the XS Max in the first place (€1350+ where i live).
Camera wise the IQ from the N9 is quite a bit better, and in Pro mode i have no issues with movement. The screen on the N9 is in another league. Resource use wise, yes Samsung has a lot of junk but it's easy enough to delete (even system) junk even on an unrooted phone, and even the ones you keep you can control each app individually for resource use (mobile data, battery). Processing wise the iPhones have always been solid but the N9 is very slick to. I've had mine a month and no heating issues at all not even a little. Battery life wise i get 7odd hours off SoT and about 60 odd hours between charges. Best phone I've ever had, and the SPen functionality is amazing!
Exynos is at least as good as Snapdragon, probably a bit better actually if you read the forums. GPS is very good I've had no issues.
I had an iPhone 7 a few years back but it cannot compete at all with the N9 imho.

Well to be fair compare e iphone 6s plus to the note 9 is a hit pointless.... Any category you will se better performance l. Software wise S9 and note 9 are the android phones from Samsung that will never slow down at all. Then leaves the software experience that android and apple offers that should be where you make your decision...

Why is it that they will not slow down at all ?
In my experience all androids start to slow down after the 6-8 months mark.
I had my S8+ for over a year and never saw any decrease in performance, i cleared dalvik cache every once in a while and never saw any performance drop.

I currently am using both the Note 9 snapdragon version and the iPhone xs max and BOTH phones are very fast. Without hitting every point I'll try to answer the overall questions you have. For me the one thing I like better about the iphone is the physical size of the phone. I like that it's a touch thicker and wider, just feels a bit better balanced in my hand but that's it. I have not had any issues with my Note getting warm, even a little bit. I use Package Disabler from the play store and freeze the apps, even processes which I don't want taking up resources on my phone. I think I paid a couple of bucks for the app but it works well. The photos I've taken with the phone have been fine but I'm not taking pictures everyday. I just can do so much more with my Note, the secure folder is almost like having a second phone plus the s pen can't be beat. I try new ios devices when they come out but I always get bored with them after a few weeks which is not the same feeling I get with Android. I will say ios feels a lot more Android like with the latest version then it did a few years ago but it's still too boring for me. The best analogy I've heard is ios is for people that like to play checkers and Android is for people that like to play chess.
Hope that helps,
Try the Note 9....end of story!

Thank you so very much mate..
Just one last question.
How much truth do all this fuss about blurry photo hold ? is the device hardware/software really that bad at shooting moving objects? i hear that ppl cannot even get nice photos of grass/pet furr etc . that is my only gripe.
I also use Note 9 and iPhone XS Max. The only thing I really love with the Note 9 is the secure folder function and the split screen for two apps at the same time. That’s alone make me keeping my Note.
The camera in the iPhone is better in every aspect and that is when using auto mode. Don’t have the time to fiddle with pro mode. And the problems with fur and other details in photos are really there so not that impressed with the Note camera.
The pen is nice but I don’t use it that much as I thought I would as I find the Note 9 screen to narrow to really use it in a good way for notes.
They are both really speedy devices and haven’t had any slowdowns in them. Both flying, sure the Note can have some micro lag sometimes but nothing that disturbs me.
The battery holds up much better in my iPhone with the same usage pattern but the Note still has a pretty nice battery. The speakers are much better in the iPhone. But they are not bad on the Note.
And the gesture navigation on the XS is outstanding as is Face ID. I miss this two things very much when using the Note
I have the exynos version and the snapdragon is said to be better on battery and speed

I have not had any issues with taking pictures, as I stated I don't take pictures every day but I do take my fair share of them. I was recently in Southern Germany/Austria and Hungary for an extended trip and I took many photos without any problems using my Note exclusively. I do agree with easycure1974, the battery on the iphone xs max is better, I still have about 60 to 70% left in my Note at the end of the day but maybe 70-80% left on my iphone. Both are very good but the iphone has better battery management.
Thank the both of you very much.
To be honest XS MAX is the one i wanted, but the cost is very close to double of that of the note 9. and it definately is not 2x better.
Yet again , thank you. i will most probably just on the note wagon soon !

Why is it that they will not slow down at all ?
In my experience all androids start to slow down after the 6-8 months mark.

Well to be fair my S8 didn't slow down my S9 plus never lost a beat and never had a app crash n9 the best phone all the S9 plus good with the large battery brighter screen and a pen.
Had iPhone 6s iPhone 7 plus 8 and iPhone x and n9 for me is the whole package.
I've switched from the iPhone 7 plus to this phone and the difference is day and night. You cant even compare the two at all. My battery is insane. Background operations are managed very well to the point where my SOT hits 7.5-8 hours easily. This phone is literally the best phone you can buy now a days. The only thing I miss is iOS and it's cleaner design. I can't wait for the note 10. Options are endless on this phone. I've had literally zero issues for the 2 months I've had this phone. And now the android pie release this month will make it even better. You won't regret it if you're not hooked to the apple "ecosystem"

Nice ! Good to hear ! Battery backup is very important for me too !
Btw i am not wealthy enough to be "hooked" on the ecosystem
I mean i do buy music/apps/books alot, from itunes but the iPhone is about the only apple device i have (no watches, tablets, laptops, desktops,tv,routers etc).

You'll love the battery life on this phone. And good on not being hooked. Same here. I never buy anything other products beside an iPhone every once in a while. But I always go back to android. This time this note is hooking me with its goodness. I don't even miss iPhone. ::highfive::

If you plan on taking pics of your furball babies you will be disappointed.

Oh...well that is not good. so the lens is not capable of sharp pictures? e.g. it cannot shoot individual hair ?
Would a pic like the attached be impossible e.g? (the hair of pets is an example, it could likewise be same for strands of grass, hair of ppl in photos etc)
Something like that would come out not so good. There is a dedicated thread sub section about camera quality.
