Lollipop Update neither available through OTA nor KIES - Galaxy Note 4 General

Hi all,
maybe that is expected but I thought my Note 4 should be subject of Lollipop Update. Device information says "SM-N910F".
I am on Stock firmware, no root or so.
Is Lollipop not available for my device yet or am I doing something wrong.
Thanks in advance guys for feedback.
Cheers from Germany

waintg like i do SM-N910F (TPL)
I read somewhere that lolipop update was canceled because of problems with Poland ROMs

Really? I thought it's spread now for nearly every version

Canceled lol? No it is not "canceled" it is rolling out to the device in different regions...just wait until it hits your region.

Its not rolling out to any region but Poland & Korea for C version and Germany for F... something bad spotted in beta testing, they're recoding firmwares and the update is on hold. As it rolls out to much older devices, we with Note4 have to still wait. It's just as it is... Samsung fails to satisfy its flagship owners one more time.
Sent from my GALAXY Note 4

Thanks KS ljubimci. That's why I'm wondering. I believe to be on F and am in Germany as well. Now you guys got really confused.

They are saving the best firmware for us till last as they experiment on other devices (^_-) shall be worth the wait.

Completely normal way for Samsung. Poland and Korea usually first and after a while they will spread to other regions.
I expect, for Europe, the UK next followed by France, Italy and Spain.

If someone bad (as in show stopping bad) would have been discovered they would not have released the final version in Poland or Germany.
They may adjust some small things for other regions but nothing indicates that they pulled the plug on the update. (if a real problem would had been discover they also would have stopped rolling out Germany and Poland)

Guys, just to repeat: I AM in Germany and AM on F but Update not showing. So what's wrong then?

Download it from sammobile if you really need it. I myself had to downgrade in order to get my things work the way I want them to. Besides I'm not a fan of the lollipop animation gimmicks at all.

So it is Only available from sammobile and expected behaviour that it's not offered via KIES or OTA?

No. It should be offered via KIES or OTA. But if Samsung really pull back the update due to some bugs, you won't be able to get them either way so you have to download from Sammobile if you can't wait for Samsung to release them again.

Hmm okay. So we ASSUME it was pulled back then.

Nah, if your deviece is carrier branded than it's completely normal not to receive the update.

It isn't branded

You probably have a different csc.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S I9000 Denmark

Hello,
I have my Samsung Galaxy S for 3 days and I bought it from Elgiganten (Denmark), and I think it has something to do with TDC, because I found one icon with TDC on my menu. (the phone is bought without contract for any carrier...I use prepay BiBoB SIM). The problem is that when I connect the phone to computer I can't do any update. Is there a problem with the software or there is really no update for it?
Thank you in advance for understanding and for any suggestion.
You need to make sure you have the latest Kies update for firmware updates to become visible.
I already have the latest Kies version ( 1.5.3.10103_100), and still no available firmware update....
Is there anyone from Denmark that made an update to the firmware using Kies?
Thx for the reply!

Chances are, if Kies is recognizing the phone okay, and your phone is going into Samsung Kies "mode" when you plug it into the computer.. and the fact you just got it 3 days ago i would suspect there is no updates at this time.... even if others from Denmark have got updates in the past... your unit probably already has the latest and greatest considering how new it is!!!.
There is a thread floating around here somewhere listing all the most up to date firmwares per Country.. do a search... you'll find it i'm sure..
Currently there is no updates for TDC product code.
Thats because the official 2.2 update will be out soon.
TDC is the product code of a branded phone, the unbranded Danish variant would be with XEE product code.
This means more waiting from my side
Thank you all for the replies!

[Q] ICS update not avaiable through Kies?

Hey everyone, just wondering if the update for the note through Kies is also regien dependent?
I'm US based and OTA update is not available so I tried using Kies but when I connect my note to the computer, it is still saying that my current fw is the lates (which is still GB2.3.6).
Any ideas? Thanks!

Oh ok! I thought that the update via Kies would be for all international versions of the note. Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait for at least a US release of ICS then.
Thanks a lot!

Yup, my note is the international one. It's just that I'm based here in the US but I bought my note through Amazon. I'm not sure though where my note originally came from though...is there anyway to find out? Sorry for being such a noob, this is actually my first android phone.
Ok I looked underneath the battery, it only says Made by Samsung. I have the blue international (says in the box) but really, it looks black to me though a it does have a shade of blue to it. ^^
I have the ics update available via kies right now, although I'm scared top hit update since kies bricked my vibrant. My GNote came from Germany....think I should update? Or wait for the ota?
Hmm..if it's official via kies, it should be pretty safe. =)
If ever, I would think OTA updating would carry almosts the same risks updating via Kies would since you are updating to an official fw anyway.
Happy that you have it since you have a german made note, im hoping that the asian made ones (korea/china) would get released soon as well!
I caved in, I updated....couldn't wait for the ota So far, I love it! Running very smooth. It was a little laggy at first, so I did a factory reset and it's been perfect since. No issues. My quadrant seemed to drop though, don't know what that's all about.
I did read Germany GNotes are first, but I'm sure yours will be soon
Wow, glad you had no trouble updating! Enjoy ICS! =)
Thank you! Yeah I was super worried because I updated my vibrant to 2.2 on kies in December and it stopped in the middle of installing the update....it killed my vibrant But it looks like they completely redid kies, it's much nicer now. You're next Seraph

Well, I'll be reading all about ICS here while waiting for it to arrive to this area of the world.
Enjoy ICS!
Can I flash the new DBT-Release from Germany on my ATO-Note? Or do I get in trouble with the product code? I read that there is a chance to loose the IMEI if the product codes do not match...
thx for help

What will happen with Latinoamerican JB update?

Well i've seen that officialy there's now the russian update of JB for this device but other fonts like SamMobile or other ones tell that the update for other countries could be released until March and SamMobile wrote that didn't expected the russian update until March too and i think that it could happen too for latinoamerican devices but i dont really know any aproximate about what will happen, i'd be very grateful if someone could tell me what will happen, if we're going to get the update now in January or i'll have to wait until March?
Thanks
PD: Sorry if i wrote something wrongly in english, i hope it is understandable

I think it would make no sense at all they releasing the russian firmware and not anytime soon more firmwares.
I'm sure that until the end of the month a lot of new firmware will be released, and maybe one of them will be in latin-america, we just need one of them so whatever what country is it.
I'm not uploading the brazilian rom in mine anyway, it's branded for one carrier that isn't even mine, so TTT or CHO for me it is.

My carrier (Telcel) usually takes 6-7 months to start sending OTA updates, but it greatly varies from one brand to another. My Motorola Atrix took almost a year after AT&T update to receive it via Telcel.
Is really Telcel that retarded to release an update 6 months later?! I'm on Telcel too and i don't really want to wait that much... :L

N960U1 in the UK

Hi all,
I bought an unlocked note 9 from eBay which arrived today. I got it set up and went to begin installing a different firmware to be able to get the one UI update - only to find out it's a N960U1! I'm in the UK so was expecting/hoping for a N960F.
It's all working, calls work, I've pulled over 3GB of data today all nice and fast, texts working etc. If I was the 'average user' I wouldn't know that it's not a UK one...
My question is, am I likely to hit any road blocks? As long as the radios all work I can't imagine there being any and the play store has all the apps I use available. I'm just wondering if I'm at any advantage/disadvantage?
Thanks

I'm on the same boat (I mean, a similar situation because I'm not in the UK I'm in El Salvador). When I received my phone I started looking for the new UI, but I noticed that I had a very old android build version (I was in September security patch, I received my phone February 11) I started reading about and found out that N960U is the branded version of the note in the US. I wanted to update by Odin to one UI but I was afraid to get my phone carrier locked so after reading a lot more, I found that you can update using the right firmware for the phone (N960U) you don't lose carrier unlock and in my case after installing updates, I don't even have any bloatware.
Now, after this context history, I can tell you that the only thing that will affects is any "radio band enhance" or "carrier feature" and that's because you will not be able to install any UK carrier software to that version because N960U and N960F are different hardware, not just software.
Maybe there is another road block that is about updates, I'm on 9.0 but with January security patch, I have not received any new update. To be hones I'm not sure if there is a new one, so I need to wait to confirm that OTA updates are working for me, if not I will take the time to update by ODIN again haha so that's not something that will drive me crazy, and also related to this I think that N960U android versions are coming faster than I thought, some of my friends with N9600 are still stuck on 8.1
If you want to upgrade go to the following thread, there you will have enough information to update.

Awesome, nice one dude
I used Odin on my previous S8+ to be able to install the one UI beta and that worked fine. Though it did come with a couple of apps that were a part of that carriers firmware (three UK)
I'm aware that the F uses an exynos processor whereas the U is Snapdragon and have seen a couple of guides already. Though they use AT&T firmware and, from what I've seen, have bloatware that would literally be useless to me.
I'll have a look at the guide you linked.
I'd like to have one UI again, but can happily live with the Samsung experience UI if I had to.

Option1:
You can flash the Pie beta since you're running U1, there isn't an official release of Pie as yet.
Option2:
You can switch your device to the U firmware and flash the latest OTA however you would have to manually update each time because you won't be getting an update automatically.

How come the U firmware wouldn't get OTAs?
My S8+ was flashed to get the beta and that received OTA updates.
If I'm to go onto one UI I'd want it to get OTA updates still. If that means waiting for an official release then so be it
On a different note, I installed an app to get the FM radio working today. Can't do that with the UK exynos version ?

Because on the U most OTA comes from the carrier (ATT & VZW) while the rest comes from Samsung.
U1 all updates come from Samsung but U1 updates are months behind.
Advantage of running U firmware is you always get to be on the latest OTA as one is available.

So correct me if I'm wrong but to simplify what you're saying:
The U gets the latest updates sooner but comes with carrier bloat
The U1 gets non bloated updates but Samsung doesn't release then until months later?
I'll leave it and wait if that's the case. I'd be more bothered about having bloat than One UI

Well yes the U comes with bloatware but the amount varies according to carrier, but since you're in the UK. Your CSC will read as XAA/XAA so therefore I doubt you would have any bloatware.
I know this because I myself had own a US device while using in the UK.

Right so even if you switch to U firmware it would still remain XAA/XAA because that would be the default CSC code for Unbranded for American model. F model is normally XEU or BTU

When I did the S8+ I had to go through a pretty big list to find the BTU firmware so assumed I'd have to do the same for the N9
I might give it a go if I get a chance this week
Seeing as you have the US variant of the Note 9. You may have issues receieving connecting to certain networks outside the US. As most US Networks use a different LTE band from the EU/UK

No Update for XSP N960F

This isn't much of a question more is it a vent of frustration towards Samsung. I am still on the July Security Policy despite Samsung claiming Monthly Security Updates. When OEM's refuse to Update their devices on time or out right at all this is when fragmentation becomes a big deal. Monthly should mean Monthly Until the end of life. No exceptions.
Thoughts?

then just update it manualy:
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-note-9/firmware/SM-N960F/BNG/download/N960FXXS3CSH2/286019/
you can also use samfirm tool 0.3.6 or frija app to download it with ure pc since that web site has trash speeds and flash it using odin. but be sure ure pc has samsung android drivers before using odin.
i believe you could also use samsung smart switch software to check for an update and flash it too.
so as you can see you can just update the device yourself instead of waiting. read and search xda for any of the tools and ways to use them aforementioned.

you can probably skip it all together. but your csc is the carrier code. if the phone is not carrier tied then you should either use the link i sent which is multi csc and would probably contain your sim CSC or find out the carrier code matching your carrier/sim.
read up on samsung and CSC for more details.

Yeah, I think ill just wait it out because flashing over a security patch seems like a nuclear option. Hopefully in arrives in the coming weeks. Thanks for the help and information though everyone I appreciate it.
You guys are touching a contentious issues with the way Samsung delivers update in Singapore.
Due to the national telcos bottlenecking the process, Samsung phones are getting much lesser updates than the rest of the world.
As an example, Galaxy Note 9 in Europe (UK/DE/FR), version N960F which is identical to the one sold in Singapore received a total of 24 updates, including 4 different built of Android 10/OneUI 2.0 and is up to date with the March 2020 security update.
In Singapore, the Note 9 received 8 updates and the latest is from October 2019 with the October security update.
