The biggest reason nobody has bothered with this, is if you did, it wouldn't be able to make a phone call, which kinda breaks the whole "phone" aspect of having a phone.

Ubuntu Touch (for phones) works fine as a phone on Nexus 4, and Nexus 5 (except no bluetooth and power management is kaput).

Sorry, maybe a stupid question.
Is it not possible to flash one of the HTC ROM's onto X1?
Nope, it will not work.
I figured that much, but can someone on here maybe explain? From what I could see it has the same processor as X1 etc.

I know people are trying to get android onto X1 and hence my question. Why is it not possible to just use the android rom (with some mods) from the HTC phones as most of the hardware seems similar?

it's basicly misc Hardware stuff.
CPU might be the same same jeah, but evyerthing else is not. neither the chipsets for the keyboard are, nor is the chipset for making phonecalls, nor the memory and so on.
it's liek trying to fit a Mazda Elektronics into a ford ka. maybe u can squeeze it in but im sure it wont work since the electronic doesnt know any part of the new car.

electronic doesn't need to know the car. because in computer systems, there exist another layer between the electronic and the car.
it's called the kernel. hardware abstraction layer.
it'll work... just need someone free enough to make it work.
no further explanations please! lets pretend it is magic
/me swings the magic wand
ps: jeah i know .. im king of typos and abstract examples ^^
Is there anybody working on this right now?
Would love a Hero/etc android ROM on my X1, definitely. Just got a Hero and I'm loving it to bits.

I have read the thread about Full Ubuntu on the Atrix. What I am asking is something different.
Cant this hack work on the Motorola Atrix
Ubuntu on Nexus/Android Phone
It has instructions that seem to work on all android phones.
Anyone want to try it and tell me how it goes.
Should. There was a thread in here about doing the same thing but with debian. Its probably a couple of pages back.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
I can't seem to find it. Can tell me roughly what the title was?
Also any other devs care to chime in?
Please
It'll probably work, but... why??? You already have a perfectly functional Ubuntu running on your phone.

Well to access that I will need some output monitor. I would like to have Ubuntu on the screen itself.
What is the worst that can happen to the phone if I tried it?

The worst? Who knows?
Sure, you could set up a VNC server under the Ubuntu and then run VNC from either your device (Android) or from an external client. That's what the linked method is doing, so there's nothing inherently better about it.

Well I don't know much but do you think that method at the source will work?
It doesn't seem to dive into the phone too much. It seems like an app. Also does anyone know of a way to get rid of it after I install it?

Me? No idea. I'm not sure how much magic is happening behind the scenes, and I'm currently involved in, well, making sure that the Ubuntu that Motorola ships works well to look too deeply into this. Sorry.

Have you seen my post on getting Debian running on the Atrix? Debian and Ubuntu are kind of similar IMO, and can run the same applications. To get it go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=986071
Thank you so much that is what I wanted.
Yea I use debian on my laptop and Ubuntu on my desktop.
Glad to see I helped But the question is did it work? I know a LOT of people were having trouble with it. I did it fine with no problems, I hope it went the same way for you.
I'm working on getting a vanilla copy of Debian running on the device. So far everything works except X, which can't detect a properly configured device. Will post if I have any success with it.

Thats great! Playing with Debian on the Atrix is actually quite fun. I had problems installing deb packages on it though for some reason. Have you tried installing flash on the FireWiesel browser? Failed for me. As did everything else I tried to install.
Hello,
Can anyone make a CWM flashable zip from Nexus 4 stock rom?
I need it for a Galaxy Nexus port.
Thx!
Why not just download the Galaxy Nexus system image direct from Google.

I want to port some features which the Galaxy doesnt have.
So download the Nexus 4 stock image and use that in your kitchen along side the GNex one
Well then why not grab the Nexus 4 system image from Google?
Cuz my kitchen doesnt work -.- java error and command not found errors

Maybe you should fix that. Have you used the kitchen before? If you don't have java configured properly you're just going to have tons of trouble trying to do any deving in the future.
Also, why are you trying to port to the Gnex from the N4? 4.2 OTA already rolled out to Gnex, everything from N4 should be there, except code specific to the device, like driver binaries and wireless charging support.

This. the only difference i noticed is HDR, which the hardware of the GN dosent support anyway.
The Launcher is different, HDR maybe? and idk what else.. but in the past I had ported roms (ics for s2) but that account got banned for no reason.
Cygwin was working in Windows 7 but when i upgraded to 8 pro it stopped working. ill try to fix it.
The launcher is identical?

Different wallpapers.
And i'd like to have Chrome instead of the browser, anyways ill just port it.
Wallpapers are separate to the launcher, and Chrome is obviously available from the Play Store.

Porting is usually sloppy...
So you want to make your life complicated to get a sloppier version to gain... nothing? Lol
And also, starting a thread with "Request" really shows you are not a self-entitled brat.

More HTC One (M8) for Windows launch details leak out
http://www.phonedog.com/2014/07/29/...=Rss&utm_medium=Latest&utm_campaign=BlinkFeed
That story popped up on my BlinkFeed. It will become real news if Sprint every gets their hands on it.
Hopefully there is an m8 max
Popped up on mine also. I haven't used a window phone since the T-Mobile shadow.

I've become really interested in Windows since 8. This would cool in my opinion.
Sent from my 831C using Tapatalk
I really hope someone can dual boot the M8 between the Android and Windows.. That would be great for Windows phone operating system in general. People will get to try them and realize that they aren't that bad at all (as compared to what they used to be).

More than likely, this will happen. Especially if the hardware is exactly the same, I foresee this for the near future.
I would totally be down giving windows a go on this phone. i have never used a windows phone before.
Samsung is coming out with dual boot tablets.

I love Android and Windows Phone. I have found that as Windows machines get smaller (My Dell venue pro 8, for instance), they are making my phone more of a messaging and talking device again. It's funny how this works. I'd love to get in on the WP action.
Unless they announce a WebOS option... we can dream, right?

I would love to see what WebOS would be like on a device like this. My first smartphone was a Palm Pixi, and the interface was wonderful. It got really slow with time, and full data wipes didn't help anymore.
But that's just wishful thinking.
Back on topic, tho. Can anyone weigh in and comment on how likely it is that we'll be able to install the version of Windows Phone that was just released on our Sprint/Android versions?

not really a leak....it's official...http://blog.htc.com/2014/08/htc-one-m8-for-windows/
exclusive for Verizon....not interested....Android FTW!
No, I'm not converting to WM either, even if it was to come to Sprint. However, I have never even seen WM live in person, and I wouldn't mind giving the Rom a flash.
Same here. I wouldn't buy it but if there was a port for Android m8 I would definitely flash the rom
I've suggested to HTC to make a dual boot for their top phone. So that, no matter which you buy, you can switch as you like. I guess it's gonna benefit MS more than HTC,but it could be a nice push for sale of the phone because it's just another unique feature that nobody really bothered to do.
I've used the WP 7 for a long time and like that very well. Since now the M8 takes SD card, the storage space is less a concern, so makes this even more workable.
IMO the best will be dual boot, so that you can choose on bootup, the second will be a flash, which would be harder to change. But either way, it'll be very neat.
Was just thinking the exact same thing
I've seen the buzz lately about the m8 Windows version, and when it finally clicked that they both had the same hardware I started digging around to see if I could find info on a possible port.
I did find this YouTube video, posted today, but the poster didn't give much information, only a link to what appears to be a ROM file https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_FHG7Uq3a8
Maybe someone more experienced than myself could look into the .zip to see what's going on in there or maybe help me find out where it came from - I'm sure this link didn't pop up from nowhere if it is truly legit.
Video was removed
found it file is less than 1mb .exe didnt want to risk it on my computer

Its cool how sometimes you can score those proto phones. My wife work for Motorola before the split and I got my hands on a Motorola Napoleon. It was like a Moto Q on steroids. Even had a fingerprint scanner. Didn't work too good though.
holyyyyy....is that the nexus 6 prototype with the finger print scanner?
Just flash the latest marshmallow in google page, i have also a engineering version and I've tested many roms from this forum.

I tried that but didn't work the phone is still stuck in fastboot mode! If anyone can help I have team viewer set up so you can remote connect and work from there which is a little easier tried with another dev and no luck.but he only tried with nexus 6 software only.I think it's a moto x pro dev . There is a power button on the back.if anyone else can help that would be great.
Looks like prototype with fingerprint scanner
Can You confirm it?
--Edit--
You'd probably need pre-production OS versions - not even public betas.
Ask Your friend if his company has any system builds.
Most likely it would be only some old, debug versions of Lollipop, but it's always worth to ask.
Yea no luck on getting the software so it's still stuck in fastboot mode.but like you said I'm sure I need a dev system img to get this thing going.and since I'm picking up another nexus 6 today this moto x pro de is up for grabs PM me if anyone in wants to take it off my hands.
