Hello,
I've recently (yesterday) moved from Sonyland to HTCtopia, and I have no clue about what should I do first. I spent more than a hour just to find some guides. Am I correct that all the procedures, (not counting s-off) are exactly the same as on Sony? I mean, fastboot, Kernel, rom, gapps, good to go?
And secondly - is unlocking the bootloader from HTC Dev the same as s-offimg using programs? Or are there any differences?
I'm sorry if that question was asked before. I tried to find a similar topic around here

unlocking the bootloader just allows you to flash custom recovery and roms, S-off is a whole other thing
Read the FAQ at the top of this forum and their are rooting tutorials in the main Bar of the forums

I have a couple of questions, which hopefully someone or some peeps on here can provide some answers.
This whole S-Off thing, just to establish once and for all does your phone need to have the following done to it just for this one thing?:
Bootloader Unlocked
Rooted
Clockwork Recovery Installed
SuperUser Installed
CID Changed
If so this seems like a hell of a lot of effort, just for this one thing to be done.
The other thing I have noticed, is that even though there are some good nOObs guides on this forum, it maybe an idea at some point in the future for some YouTube videos.
Thanks.

You don't need any of those to s-off. You don't need a video, although there are probably some available - just read the guide carefully: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314582
Also, you need to ask yourself if you actually need s-off in the first place..

Are only few commands.
In 15 min, you have an HTC One s-offed with the recovery and another cid
Hello everyone!
I got my HTC one M7 and it's my first smartfone ever so I'm a total noob at these things.
I know there are many threads for beginners but could someone just answer a couple of question really quick and simple, or at least point me to the appropriate threads
1) is there a way to SIM unlock it for free? It's carrier locked to VIP Croatia
2) which method is the easiest to unlock the bootloader?
3) I plan to install that kernel which gives you the option to use HTC logo as a power on/off button, will I have to install that kernel before or after a custom ROM?
Thx

Your expensive device can become useless pretty quick if you don't know what you're doing.
Check this out as a general guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45432325&postcount=2
To answer your questions, I don't know about sim unlock. Always had unlocked devices. Maybe just pay the $10 on eBay and get someone to provide a code?
Easiest way to unlock bootloader is through htcdev - official hTC site for unlocking etc.
Last one, don't know of a kernel for our devices which allows power on/off by hitting the logo.
With kernels, you need to flash after the custom rom as the custom rom will have it's own kernel which will overwrite your custom kernel if you flash it first.
Good luck.
First of all thx a lot for your reply cr1960
Yes I know it's pretty risky, that's why I'm here, I have to admit though I had some little experience only in changing rom-s, once turned a korean S2 into international version, and recently installed cyanogenmod on my old man's S3 mini, but of course I consider myself a total noobie.
I've been searching yesterday on ebay yes, but I hope it will work as I've been reading some ppl complaining I didn't work for their carrier and stuff like that, hopefully they offer refunds
Thx for the good luck, I'm gonna need it
I have a Dev Edition on 4.4.2 and getting some weird stuff from some apps. What is the SIMPLIEST way to wipe and start fresh and not lose root? I am bootloader unlocked, rooted on a Dev edition.
Thanks!
Have you read the responses in the 2 other recent threads you started asking the same thing??? People gave you your answer in both threads.

If you still need help, here's a guide with everything you need to know. You really should read it, and the other stickies and learn a bit more about this stuff, it could save you a costly mistake.
Guide for most everything,

Good luck.
Also, if you are bootloader unlocked, you don't have to worry about losing root. You can just flash it again
-Eclipsed Moto X-
All the guides I have read for root lead me here: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-b
I would prefer NOT to void my warranty. But is this the only way to get root? I dont need a custom rom, etc. I just want root.
Thanx
I have a Moto X running 4.4.3 stock. Unlocked but not DEV edition
If your device is unlocked, then you should be able to use custom roms and such.
But if you want just basic root, try out TowelPieRoot. I am not sure if it works on 4.4.3, but it is confirmed to work on 4.4.2.
Please search around and read some guides next time, this information was already available from many resources in this forum!
Tried that. Says it successfully rooted but as far as I can tell it is not rooted.

Read through the threads. There are plenty of explanations and people in your position. If you do not have the patience to do so, then the current rooting methods probably won't be for you.
If your device is not a developer edition and you unlocked, I believe that means you already have voided the warranty.
Rooting with an unlocked bootloader doesn't require pie, etc, it's rather basic at this point, installing a custom recovery and installing supersu

I'm surprised nobody has stated this yet, but.......questions belong in the Q&A section. Please post to the correct sub-forums. See the second "sticky" thread at the top of the General Section.
Also, when you say unlocked, you ARE referring to bootloader-unlock, right? And not SIM-Unlock?
If so, the previous posters are absolutely correct. Your warranty is already toast. See the "One Stop Shop" rooting guide - it will point you in the correct direction.
1- Sorry, I posted it in the wrong forum. I apologise.
2- I was unclear when I said unlocked. I meant SIM unlocked incase it made any difference.
I just want my xposed framework, but I would like to keep my warranty. I read through the forums for an hour and could not find a method for rooting that didn't require me to void my warranty which is why I posted the question. I am a programmer, but not a Android Programmer. I have no interest at this point in custom roms, etc. I just want root.
I appreciate the feedback and again sorry for posting in the wrong forum

TowelPieRoot can be completely removed without a trace. We are pretty sure it doesn't void warranty.

I had a feeling you might have meant SIM-Unlock. This is completely unrelated to rooting, unfortunately.
If TowelPieRoot didn't work for you (DOWNLOAD A ROOT-CHECKER to be sure - find one in the play store. It will confirm if you have been rooted or not), sorry, but your ONLY option is to unlock the bootloader. There are mixed reports on whether or not TPR works on 4.4.3. Some variants apparently CAN use it, while others CAN'T.
Keep in mind that unlocking the BL is FAR superior to any of these exploits. You gain permanent root and wp-off.
The important question is which model you have. If you have the XT1053, you CAN unlock through Moto's official website. If not, you might not have any options at all unless you can get unlocked through the "china middleman".
If you have XT1053, your best bet is to go ahead and unlock the BL. Sure it will void your warranty, but I I really don't understand the fear of that. If you (for instance) break your device, warranty possibly won't cover it anyways if they determine it is "abuse" (e.g. you drop it). And aside from that there are very few things that can go wrong. All I can think of is the possibility of the screen going bad, or the speaker quitting working or something like that.....but there are extremely few reports of anyone actually needing to use warranty service.
Additionally, there are many reports of people who unlocked, and Moto honored the warranty anyways. I'm not going to suggest that they WOULD, but others have advised they did it for them.
Do what you want, but realize that if you want root, the ONLY option is to unlock.
Good Luck
If you don't want to void the warranty and have root access, buy a developer edition then sell your phone (or vice versa). That's the only way you'll be able to satisfy those 2 conditions.
I have to use pie root to get exposed working but I can confirm it works on 4.4.2 not sure about 4.4.3. I use the moto x tool kit to get pie root you can find it in the forums it's pretty easy
