Hi everyone.
I just got my gear vr yesterday and have been unable to get it set up. I get the gear vr stuff loaded onto the phone and when it opens the Oculus app worth Install vr apps, it only downloafs 360 Photos then stops.... Doesnt download any of the other VR apps. even the 360 photos doesn't actually install, it just downloads it to a folder on my phone's internal memory. This file is 7.51mb in size. If i then re-click the "Install Apps" button, it just re-downloads the same 360 Photos.
So if itry to connect the phone to the gear vr, it says setup isn't yet complete... Remove phone and go back into the Oculus app and install the rest of the apps... So i do, and it's the same thing all over!
How do i get this Oculus app to do what it's supposed to do?
Thanks for any help. I can't wait to finally experience this thing!

I have the same problem how do i solve this?
Basically what was happening was it would download the 360 Photos apk file to an Oculus Files folder on the phones memory, but the file name had an extension .apk_download.
"Reik o)" on the Gear VR forum said to rename the downloaded file without the "_download" at the end, then install.
That did the trick. Then I had to do the same thing individually for 360 Videos, and the other 5 Oculus Gear VR apps.
Kind of cumbersome, but in the end it worked. Since then, I've downloaded Temple Run, Dreadhalls & Eden, and I had to do the same thing for all of them. When they're done downloading, they prompt you to install... then the install fails and it begins downloading the file all over again, even though the previous file download is complete and sitting in the Oculus folder with that _download extension.
It seems like people with stock Note 4's as well as those rooted & ROM'd are having the problem. I have a VZW Developer Note 4 running Definitive 1.9
Hope this helps!!

I renamed the 360photo app ok that worked but when I try with 360 video same procedure says rename falied am I doing something wrong.
The file for the 360 Videos should be 6.23MB and it should be filled as "com.oculus.oculus360videos.apk"
All of my renames went smooth and consistent, so maybe you have an extra space somewhere or something went wrong with the initial download of that particular file.

Due to a bug in the browser(s) and/or URL APIs on the Android platform it's not possible to download loc files from geocaching.com without a lot of mess and fuss.
So I bring you the Closest 50 Caches app, enjoy.
Version 0.0.3 now lets you exclude caches you've found or own if you enter your geocaching.com details (optional).
Version 0.0.4 now works with geobeagle.
Version 0.0.5 lets you specify the radius distance around you from 0.5km to 40km, this way if you are in a populated area the old default of about 25km radius would exceed the 500 cache limit and result in no caches being saved.
Version 0.0.6 tells you how many locations were downloaded/exported.
Version 0.0.7 plays about with the distance limits, increasing it from 40km max to 60km max, although you might be able to go bigger depending on your latitude.

It saves the information into .loc format
It seems to have worked, but what am I supposed to do with the .loc file on my sd card after it downloads?
Or is this app supposed to display them, but it isnt? Sorry, not sure what's going on.
I installed the app, it showed my accuracy as 12 meters or so, and I clicked "download". I let the dialog run, and I now have a .loc file in the root of my SD card. The app shows just a white screen and I can re-download the file or whatever, but that's it.
Am I supposed to use a separate app to display them? Geobeagle or something?

Yes, this app isn't designed to replace any Geocaching apps, what it's designed to do is allow you to grab a .loc file on the run simply because you can't do so using any browsers on the G1

Gotcha - which app do you guys recommend for geocaching? Preferably free, but I'd like to know what all your thoughts are. (I played with Geobeagle for about 30 seconds and I couldn't find anywhere to load .loc files, only GPX)

I'll try and work out what GPX files geobeagle can handle and update the code to spit out both.
The app now seems to work with geobeagle.
Updated today to cope with high density areas + give more feed back based on the number of locations written to the location files.
Just got the updated APK - thanks for your work.
I was into Geocaching a long time ago (a few years or so) and got out of it after my crappy GPS unit died. Now, with the G1 on my at all times, I'm hoping to get back into it more, even if just for a few caches here and there.
I always liked it for the idea of getting caches near where I live, because caching would take me to parts of town or whatever, that I never would have visited otherwise.
Anyway - can't wait to try out the updates! Thanks again!
I have tried this app a couple times today and it locks up GeoBeagle. Download caches, moved Closest50.loc file to /sdcard/downloads, run sync. Sync dialog goes away and GeoBeagle gives an error "Activity %1$d nearest caches out of %2$d (in application GeoBeagle) is not responding. choices are Force close or Wait. I end up killing GeoBeagle with a task manager app.

The loc file isn't for GeoBeagle, the current version of the app saves a gpx file into the /sdcard/downloads folder that is for GeoBeagle.
New version uploaded, increases the area you can select to download from.
Ok, I will try the latest version...
Problem Resolved.

I got this resolved. It was an issue related to GeoBeagle and a zip file that it could not figure out that was in the download folder.
Lesson: Do not leave files in the download folder that are not related to GeoBeagle.
Would it be possible to have the files saved with a date stamp for a file name ?
That would allow someone that travels to save a series of files for different areas......

Yes it's possible, but to do that you'd be better off using the website from a desktop computer and compile a route of locations ahead of time, or use a paid account to do everything for you.
The whole point of this app is to be able to use the G1 on the run and to find the nearest locations you haven't found and are near by.
What is the login feature about?
With the inclusion of flash beta in froyo, is it possible to play a .swf movie or game outside the browser?
There are some flash games I'd like to play on the go without using data. I've tried downloading a particular game called Red Remover and opening through Astro, however I get the error saying "swf file type not found"
Any way around this?
if you were to try to create a shortcut in bettercut you would notice under Activities that there is a Flash 10.1 file selector activity of some sort
i haven't tried that out myself so perhaps you could give it a go and let us know
Hi,
Thanks a lot.
I made a shortcut to "Adobe flash expandable file Chooser" (the other one I chose fc'ed when I opened it.)
When I open this one, I'm given a bland menu of Audio files, Image files and Video files all as drop down folders.
It shows all my media of that type. I can't find my swf file though. It doesn't come under video, and I have too many songs and images to scroll through and find it (and I doubt it'll be in the other categories)
Any other suggestions?
you can publish the .swf to some server and navigate to it via the browser, there is a tedious workaround to play swfs locally (i remember doing it on the hero), i'll see if i can find it and let you know
dug through my past stuff and found this:
navigate to content://com.android.htmlfileprovider/sdcard/example/file.html via your browser
see if it helps
Seems a bit too much work to play the one game.
I wouldn't have a clue on how to publish the game. My only guess would be to open the game in Flash Cs3 on my Mac and press F12. After that I'd be stuck.
Thanks for the suggestion anyway. Hopefully there's a simpler way to do it soon.
Perhaps Adobe air which is supposedly coming soon could do what I want to do.
i tried the above method, it works on the N1, but you have to use the browser as container. basicaly you are able to navigate to local swfs using this method
Could you give me some more details on how to do this?
I've type into my browser content://com.android.htmlfileprovider/sdcard/apps/rr.swf
Yet I get errors.
What exactly file are you typing in, and what are you doing to the. Swf file? Is it just the raw file, or have you published it or something.
Because essentially I could make a shortcut to the URL and change the icon and basically have myself a flash game on the go.
Edit: sorry about that. Just realised I navigate to the raw file with a .Swf extension, not HTML.
Works well! I would've thought this game be perfect for mobile. Though I can't seem to interact with it past the menu screen. It's called Red Remover BTW.
if the folder containing the swf is "apps" on your sdcard and "rr.swf" the file that you want to play, it should actually work
oops, just saw that you problem got resolved good to hear

you can use multitouch to enlarge the content, then you will be able to comfortable hit "ok" and proceed to the game. best to turn to landscape mode. double tapping adjusts the content optimally to the screen
Wow, thanks a lot man. Gotta try a few more games, see if they work.
One thing I'm frustrated with is that I can't make that URL into a bookmark shortcut on my homescreen. It comes up with " This application is not installed on your phone".
Thanks anyway again
Edit: for what you said above, I've already tried. Hitting OK is easy, then hitting new game is even easier(the same with selecting a level)
Although when selecting blocks, I have to wait about 30 secs to a minute to 1 minute for my touch to take any action.
yep, not being able to create a shortcut of the bookmark is a bummer. i haven't played the game, but i know that quite a few flash games work wonderfully on android. my favourite is the bloody penguin
Please, explain how to make html file for an swf?
Hi guys,
I'm wondering if someone with stock ROM + root + access to Samsung's App store could do me a favor? I'm currently on Imilka's AOSP ICS rom and for whatever reason, the usual Inotia 3 Children of Carnia (some lame JRPG type game) in the market cannot load my save file from their servers. It shows up as there not being any save file. I'm very annoyed right now as I've put more than 30+ hours into the game. I made absolutely sure my save files were on their servers prior to wiping my earlier stock ROM! Ugh.
Could someone help me pull the Inotia 3 that's from the Samsung App store (i.e., you'd need to install it then use something like Root Explorer to get it)? It's different from the usual Inotia 3 somehow I think, but I really need it to retrieve my save file! =(
Thanks in advanced to anyone who is willing to help me (I really hope it's possible if not....all that 30+ hours into a mobile RPG game is lost...).
Cheers.
P.S. If this APK won't work on Imilka's AOSP ROM, do let me know so I can prepare myself for the worst instantly.

Thank you so much for your help Dr. Ketan. I tried the file but alas, no luck with the Inotia file. It still shows up as a regular Inotia from the Google Market (with ads). For whatever reason, the one from the Samsung App store did not have adds.
It still returns a no-save file on their server error. Sigh, oh well, 30 hours of my life down the drain. Dang it for playing the game on a non-rootable ROM which prevented me from manually backing up the save file.
Thanks again though.
Check your PM, maybe this one will work.
Hi,
I have a Nexus 7 32GB on 4.2.1.
I just copied about 20 gigs worth of video files into the "Movies" folder. Copying was fine, and they all looked like they were there. After unplugging the device, I can't find them with File Manager or with MX Player. If I plug the device back in, the Movies folder is empty.
I've rebooted the device, that didn't help.
I've done a "Storage Analysys" in File Manager, and it shows no folders which have that much data in them.
However, the device still reports itself as mostly full! Not only did the files disappear into thin air, they didn't release the storage!
Has anyone had this problem before? Any idea what to do?
Man I want USB Mass Storage back...
I just re-copied one of the files into a new folder that I just created, rather than the "Movies" folder which already existed. Worked just fine there...
I tried deleting the "empty" Movies folder. It went away, but I'm still missing all of my space!
SSH'd in with SSHDroid. Went to the root and did a "du -hc".
In total, it only found 4.5G of data, including all OS, app, and user files. Where is the rest of my space? Am I going to have to do a factory reset to get it back?

Try this App called "Forever Gone" from the Play Store It should Help and Get Your Space Back . I can't post links yet but just search that in the play store and iut should come up
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
So I feel stupid now...
Multi user accounts. Apparently you get completely separate storage roots. When you plug the device into the computer as one user, other users can't see what you copied. Seems so obvious now.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
Two issues with my new Note 5.
1. When I copied my mp3 ringtone file to storage/sdcard0/ringtone it worked for one day, then failed. Tried to convert to wma, ogg, mp3, the program said, "unable to set as ringtone"
2. I copied the photos from the old phone to storage/sdcard0/dcim, but the new gallery can't find them. Any solution on this?
3. Actually mp3 files disappeared too.
5.1.1 no longer have the option to select where to store your photos, any work around, or should i use third camera and gallery app?
Thanks.
Ken
If you simply use a file exploer and go to Storage/DCIM you will have your photos in the correct place.
If you are using an apk like Root Explorer just go to SDCard/DCIM - (there is no SDCard0 that I know of. (unless you are trying to create a new folder there) Just put the new folder directly in SDCard directory and you should not have any issues. I have lots of personal photos and special ringtones I copied to the phone adn they all work fine. By the way, when I transfer audio files to any of my phones, it always asks me if I want to convert the file to a diffeent format - says if I don't it may not play correctly - I never do that - and they always work fine.
Good Luck - I hope I have helped in some small way

thanks Mocsab. Unfortunately, i tried, been using andriod phones for 4 years, this is the only time i felt this no longer an android product. The permission setting and other restriction make it an iOS duplicate.

I understand - I am not sure why are having the issues you described - they didn't happen for me - and personally, i think this is one of the best Android Phones I have ever used. Love it,
yeah, now that i have my data pretty much transferred, maybe i should do a full back up and reset to factory setting. Not able to change the ringtone i've using for 10 years really bother me.....
Ok, i did a factory reset and start from scratch. I was able to setup a custom ringtone by putting the file in the same ringtone directory, and copied the photos to the DCIM folder. It actually worked for 10 hours. 10 hours later, when i deleted a whatsapp images from the Gallery app, the entire photos collections as well as my ringtone were gone, ringtone back to default setting. I think this is a bug, if anyone experience this, please share your experience.
Thanks
ok, read another forum and found a solution to change the ringtone file name to ring.mp3 and amusingly, the file show up on the list of ringtone and it works.
now the bug on why photos and music disappear still unsolved.
Custom ringtone problem
I renamed the file to ring.mp3 as you said but the note 5 is still saying can not set as ringtone. Help?

try to see if you have a .nomedia file on your storage card root directory.
what happen to my case was, i found a .nomedia in the storage card root "/sdcard/ .nomedia" so all medias were omitted.
Now that i have deleted the file, my mp3 player work correctly.
