Can i get a little help please - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK so here are my problems please give their solution in comments
1. I editred my phonemanufactureemodelname and phone model name to RM-937 and Lumia 1520. Everything worked the keyboard got shorter, the settings got shorter. But the problem is that i can't get 5 shortcuts in my action centre
2. I edited the software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/control panel/themes/UserPreferenceWidth to 75 but still i cant get 5 shortcuts in action centre
3. Is their any hack to use my start button to wake up the phone..............
So here is the list of my problems. plz give a little help

Please set a useful subject line, first of all.
Beyond that, I don't know what's up with that. I changed nothing except the UserPreferenceWidth (on my HTC One M8) and it gave me the five buttons.
Actually, your problem is probably because you set the value in the wrong location. The correct location is (note the space in "Control Panel"):
Code:
Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Path: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Control Panel\Theme
Value: UserPreferenceWidth

actuall I forgot to mention but yes i did the same thing
HKLM/software/Microsoft/windows/currentversion/control panel/theme
key-UserPreferenceWidth
what to do

Set its value to 75 or greater (DWORD)

HTC P3600 Oficial ROM Upg - Where's GPS???

Hi!
I did the oficial ROM upgrade and everithing seems to work fine except that i can't seem to find the GPS anywhere?
Can anyone help me?
Thanks,
JP
Hiden GPS Icon
Having tried the new HTC rom I found that the GPS WAS enabled (Tried it with Tomtom 6) but the GPS Icon in the settings menu is still hidden.
To enable/unhide the icon use a registry editing program and change the numerical value of the DWORD string that reads 'HIDE' from '1' to '0', then soft reset the device.
There are a couple of threads that can explain how to do this in more detail elseware on this forum.

Sometimes GPS takes too long to fixup
Hi!
I discover the problem. Sometimes the GPS takes 10 or 15 minutes to fixup!!! I've read that this is a known problem without solution.
Thanks anyway.

Not first fix, on clear sky, without moving during fix? I've read only one complaint, and it didn't say the conditions that made that fix so long.

In the regisrty there are a lot of folder wich one contain the DWORD?
if this is your level of understanding of the registry I strongly suggest you DO NOT try and modify until you thoroughly research it!
You may end up having to hard reset your device.
I already modify it last time but i forgett where theDowrd is..Under wich menu on the registry
OK Brigate- sorry just wanted to warn you!
I would do a search- this took me 10 nano seconds ;-) It's quicker than posting and waiting for a reply.
/snip
HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings
Add a DWORD called "Group" and give it the value of "2" (dec) keep the Hide key but change the value to 0 and delete the redirect value and soft reset
If you have a GPS device, you can add a GPS settings icon to your Start > Settings menu using:
HKLM\ControlPanel\GPS Settings\Group = 2 (DWORD decimal)
HKLM\ControlPanel\GPS Settings\redirect <-- delete, or rename, this value
Note that '2' stands for the Connections tab, '1' is System and '0' would be Personal
Note also that this has reportedly disabled one person's USB connectivity. To restore, set "GPS Program Port = None", "GPS Connection Port = None", "Automatic GPS Management = on"
/ snip
This rings a bell- I tried it a long time ago on my M600 thinking the icon would help (it just stopped my BT GPS working!)
Well thx a lot
I use resco to modify the register but every time i do a softreset it returns all as default... So at last i can`t get the GPS ICON

Setup of GPRS/UMTS connection timeout?!

Hi Guys!
Any ideas if and where i can set the GPRS/UMTS connection timeout on the Breeze?
The bloody bastards from O2 decided to start time-billing for data-traffic based on "am i attached to the GPRS/UMTS APN or not". So with just checking my e-mails twice a day.. about 100kb traffic or 5minutes real connection time i ended up with 5-10hours costs per day. My bill was an amazing 780€ this month and i have to fight for the next half year to get that sorted. In the end i will probably have to find a new provider...
People with O2 Genion Card S and the standard data traffic settings should be extremely carefull when using the Breeze. It could end up in a nightmare and for me it did.
Cheers,
TobsTec
Hi,
i haven't found an option for automatic timeout (disconnecting) yet...
only what i can give you is that hint:
made a shortcut to the datadisconnect exe file in windows folder and don't forget to use it after syncing mails...
i know... thats no solution for automatic syncing but i haven't a solution yet ...
maybe if i have time i can programm a small app (or maybe you can do that too??) where you can enter a timeout time and after that all data connections turned of or so...
steve
Hi Steve!
Can you give me the full path and exact name to that datadisconnect thing? I couldn't find it at a quick glance with the file browser.
I also couldn't find a setting for the GPRS/UMTS connection timeout, but i am sure it is possible to set that up somewhere / somehow in the registry.
If i'd knew the right key, it would be pretty easy to write a small application to set that value.
Bests,
TobsTec
in windows folder -> DataDisconnect.exe
have searched but haven't found any hint to automatic data disconnection...
maybe this helps...
didn't tryed..
http://www.gb-soft.cz/XDAII/product_gprs_tweak_wm5pe_en.htm
ok didn't work....
but i have read something that this programm only a reg key edits...
Hi!
After a lot of googling and having a close look at that PhoneEdition program you pointed me to, i think these registry keys are promising:
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\
DWORD CacheTime
60 - Timeout in seconds
String SuspendResume
~GPRS! - Always On
GPRS_bye_if_device_off - Timeout after CacheTime
HKCU\ControlPanel\PhoneExtendFunction\
DWORD NoGPRSAutoAttach
0 - Search GPRS/UMTS on start of radio
1 - Search GPRS/UMTS on start of data connection
HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\
DWORD Flags2
0 - No disconnect button & time of connection in bubble
8 - Show disconnect button in bubble
16 - Show disconnect button & time of connection in bubble
The last key might only work on PhoneEdition devices and not on Smartphones.
Haven't tried any of these yet, as the data access is naturally blocked at the moment with my SIM card and i still have to find the right registry key to unlock the write access to these keys (and nothing else). Didn't want to take any risk in building up a 2000€ bill for May just because O2 is stupid.
Cheers,
TobsTec
regkeys for unlocking the applock of the mteor you'll find in the wiki what i have filled up...
also theres an app sda unlocker you find it trough google (madaco)
enter the reg values with the phmreg editor (stk2 version - whats exactly the different... i have no idea...)
then start the sda unlocking tool...
also theres an app available checklock... with that you can check if the phone is app locked...
the other reg keys i give a try... because i have a montly datasize what i can use i have no problems
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\
DWORD CacheTime
60 - Timeout in seconds
String SuspendResume
~GPRS! - Always On
GPRS_bye_if_device_off - Timeout after CacheTime
should work...
i have issued a few funny things...
after the 60 seconds the connection seems to be disconnected... the small bandicon on signalstrengh while dataconnection is up disapears...
also thats the funny thing... it seams to disconnect when exiting a webpage or exit the explorer....
Hi!
Well i gobbled together a small .Net CF 2.0 C# application to set the SuspendResume, CacheTime and the NoGPRSAutoAttach last weekend.
Once my device is unlocked i can give it a try with a different SIM and see if it does what it should do. How about "OhPoo - Connection Tweaker" as a name?
Bests,
TobsTec
OhPoo ??
what exactly can the program? only set the reg values ?
* Set GPRS/UMTS connection to AlwaysOn or Timeout in seconds.
* Set the GPRS/UMTS coverage search to
"on radio start" or
"on data connection"
* Enable/Disable separate icons for GPRS/EDGE and UMTS/HSDPA.
Nothing fancy... I should in fact continue working on KeePassSD, but that 780€ phone bill annoyed me quite a bit and there is still the may bill to come, which might look the same: OhPoo KanDoo! Hm, maybe not particularly funny.
I could attach a snapshot, if i would know how. Doesn't seem to work for me.
Cheers,
TobsTec
just pack it into a .zip file... than you can attach the file when writing a replay!
in "Additinal Options"
if you meant that ...
Ah my mistake... The editor does not seem to work with FireFox and/or WebWasher.
Cheers,
Tobias
if you send me the programm i will test it for you...
also i have some other ideas that you can insert in your program....
i'm to addled to write my own programm... beside of that its nonsense to write 20 programms wich all does other things...
made a few more buttons... set the reg tweaks with it ...
app unlock, power save, ...

Sorry, should have posted the download links here as well.
The utility is now just called ConnTweak and the binary for WM5 Smartphones can be downloaded here:

Is there anyway to change the Ringtone location?

is there a simple way to change the location of ringtones such as edit the registry?? everytime i change a ringtone it need to send to the main memory..i want to make it easier.. THX
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\RingDirectory = Storage Card\music
How
I am new to this community and just got my first WM phone a couple of days a go, TOPAZ..
How do I use regedit to alternate like shown above???
You can try PHM regedit. It's same like desktop pc regedit.
you can also try the "pocket version" of TotalCommander, there a biult-in Plugin for the registry
Problemo
Hey
Couldn't get it to work, and couldn't actually find the exact HKEY either from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Rin gDirectory = Storage Card\music.
For me it was identical up till \SoundCategories, but no RingDirectory key. It looked something like HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Ring\Directory
Modifying the Ring\Directory into "Storage Card\music" didn't help either, any ideas what could be the problem?
Also cannot get this to work. Have changed the setting from original \windows\ to Storage Card\music. Can anyone advise on the exact think to type in the space. Even tried adding the \ in front but same results
I tried it as well and didn't work. The strange thing is that I also used SKTools and found this as a configurable setting and it did nothing as well, seems that it was changing the same registry value.

Problem with Caller ID and contact list.

Hi
I have problem with Topaz. When I save in contact - mobile No with country code (egz. +44) and try to call from other phone my Topaz don’t recognize number and is showing as a number not contact which was saved.
If I save in contact mobile No as 0xxxxxxxx without country code everything works ok it will show. What is wrong? Is there any setup or patch or anything what I can do with that? I’m travelling quite often so I store numbers with country code.
(Sorry for English)
I do not have this problem, but afaik there is an option on how many digits the number is recognized.
Set your caller ID to identify according to greater or lesser number of digits.
Otherwise, it may be that you have duplicate entries. This would also affect Caller ID.
where is the setting to change the number of digits - I appear to only have options for all contacts, no or address book ...........but no digit mask
I'm having the same issue.....
I've tried to manually add a number. With/without all/some prefixes.
Using + and 00.
I've checked to duplicates.
I've emptied by phonebook and SIM.
I got someone to call me. Saved their number from the call.
I've tried, say, +353868033333 and +3530868033333 and 0868033333 and 868033333 and replaced the + with a Zero.
I've set my Caller ID from 12 down to 2 and still nothing.
I do note something interesting.
I had ONE phone number work so far.
And I've yet to discover why.
I've placed a call with HTC and they are aware of the issue for only a week so far it seems but I think this has been an issue even from previous models.
Anyone got any others ideas? I'm going to try the hard reset and allowing it to import one number from the SIM card. And then I'll sync my full phonebook and see. But I'm holding off a few days to see if HTC will wake up and smell the coffee.
starfish_001!!!
starfish_001,
You need to get a Regedit tool, such as "PHM Regedit" and go to....
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ ControlPanel \ Phone \
There is a key in there called "CallIDMatch".
You will have to change the range from about 12 down to 2 depending on your phone numbers etc. A soft reset is needed after each change to test.
BUT this has not solved my problem yet. It has for some it seems.

Excellent - I will give this a go
Ummm... there might be some trouble...
Let me try to help...
Normal number should consist of:
+ (international prefix)
xxx (country code)
xxx (area code/provider prefix)
xxx xxxx (phone number)
So let's use some reverse engineering:
- are ALL phone numbers in your country lenght 7 digits?
- is area code always 3 digits?
- how long is your country code?
For example, post #5:
"+353868033333 and +3530868033333 and 0868033333 and 868033333"
phone number: 8033333
area code: 086
country code: 353
Catch 22: you HAVE TO ommit 0 from area code, so it becomes 86 and correct form becomes first one, +353 86 8033333.
So recognition lenght should be: 7 + 2 + 3 = 12. Right? Not always.
Normally, math goes like this: (shortest possible phone number lenght in your country) + (shortest possible area code lenght without zero) + (country code)
In my country, it looks like this: 6 + 1 + 3 = 10
Example: +385 1 999999
But, there could be: +385 51 999999
and: +385 91 999999
If you go from lenght 2 up, you notice that till lenght 8 those 3 numbers are same for caller ID!
Now, try to play that with you country's number format... not to mention USA, where country code is 1!
Sorry if all of this was already obvious...
Bodisson,
Thanks for that expansion of the issue.
I'm going to give it another go.
Unfortunately the phone numbers here in Ireland can be in a range of:
+363 86 8033333 to +353 1 55555 so perhaps the Irish will be stuck with a HTC phone that will only recognise a handful of phone numbers.
I tried the CallerID with 12 and lower already. I might have to go right back to the basics on this one and start with one phone number.
I've read in other threads that people had to do a hard reset, have some numbers on their sim and then allow the wizard to copy those numbers across. You can then add the full set of numbers.
Thanks for your calculations. I'll give it one more shot before I do a hard reset. If only HTC would roll out WM6.5 so I can try that first. I'm a little put off by the manual upgrades.
Regards,
Geoff
I am having this problem after installing a Translation software in my device, where it automatically installed other languages.... i tried un installing it, but the problem persist, i have to hard rest i think !!

[Q] Changing the date layout

At home screen, under the weather panel, as you know there's date. It looks as "Mon, Jan 3" , but I want it to look like "Monday, Jan(or full name January) 3 2011" . There's a tweak option in Advanced Config program, but it doesn't work (there are some different layouts in a drop down menu and a "change" button right beside it, you can choose the layout but change button is inactive). So, I think I expressed my request throughly, is it possible to do this? How?
What values do you have under:
HKLM\\nls\overrides\SLDte
HKLM\\nls\overrides\SSDte
Thanks mate, you're the only one who rushes to help me all the time. Before placing this topic, I found something about changing the date format (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5713475&postcount=9) , and applied them but nothing changed, it was about changing the values under the ones you mentioned. Now, answers to your question,
SLDte value = dd MMMM yyyy dddd (actually this wasn't the default one, it's the format I'd like)
SSDte value = dd / MMMM / yyyy dddd (same like above again, not the default one)
Try this:
HKLM\\nls\overrides\SLDte
dddd, dd MMMM yyyy
No, it didn't work. Still same format.
Normally, you can not change this format using the registry. At least, in WWE versions. It is most likely preset somewhere in binary files. In addition, using of customized date formats for SSDte or SLDte values may cause problems with HTC Calendar items (appointments, tasks and so on) as HTC Calendar only accepts particular formats. However, if you use localized version of Windows Mobile there may be more opportunities to tweak the phone's interface. I have seen some threads on the xda-developers site containing some tips and tricks on this topic.
Yes Janissl, you're right. Yesterday, after I made some change in SSD and SLD, I realized that SMS's dates began to look weird. So I changed it back to it's default value, now SMSs are normal. And I decided not to tweak this kinda registry things, since it could cause to force a hard reset.
Maybe you can do it safer by using ACT:
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/advancedconfigurationtools.shtml
It's written under "Update Description".

I already tried that at first hand, it had an extra settings as More Settings at menü, and there TouchFLO 3D settings. It looks like, you could do this date format there, but as I mentioned at my very first message, the "Change" button is unusable.
