[Q] Rooting without a cable? - Sprint HTC One (M7)

I have the issue of my M7 wont be recognized by the PC at all. This would not be an issue if i could root it and install custom rooms.
I am running 4.4.2 on sprint. Is there a way i can root this without the cable?

The device is impossible to root without a custom recovery which needs a computer to install as it is down through the fastboot option. Try different usb ports and cables. If you have bluestacks installed make sure it's not running. Does your computer pick up usbs or other devices? Is it Windows 8?

If your device isn't recognized by your computer then it's likely a driver issue... have you installed the required drivers?
You can find the drivers on this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191279
and the all in one tool kit for rooting/installing recovery etc.. here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183942

The PC even fails to make a sound or for the device manager to show anything. It is windows 10 and i have also tried linux (without drivers)

Are you s-off? Have you tried with different usb cable? And adb/fastboot isn't even working very well on windows 8.1 and you're trying on 10. I think you should go back to win 7, try with different cables and proper drivers.
Edit: You can only install without cable with root.

I am S-Off through software, i know windows 8.1 has issues but this does not even make a sound to recognise it. I tried with a bunch of cables and a new HTC cable arrived today which i will also try out.

PC won't recognize HTC One after installing KitKat 4.4 Sinless ROM 5.1.1

Hey guys, flashed Sinless 5.1.1 last night and ever since installing this particular ROM I'm unable to access my phone's folders via MTP or anything. I've tried re-installing drivers on my PC, rebooting phone and PC several times, trying to access my phone in ADB and fastboot... I can't even push or sideload a new ROM so I really don't know what to do!
Anyone got any idea what to try next and/or how to solve this?
Did you enable Developers options USB debugging?
If not go to about phone and click on Build number a
bunch of times. If that doesn't work install latest HTC
drivers.

Tried both, to no avail.
EDIT: It was working fine yesterday on Insertcoin 4.3 ROM, so I'm copying that back to my phone via WIFI transfer, gonna flash that and see if I get USB access back.

I'm actually running that exact ROM and my phone is seen on both my Mac and Windows 7.
Did you try a different USB port? Does a message pop up on your phone asking to trust your
computer? My computer wouldn't see my phone until I accepted that pop up.
If you've tried all that then give a little more info on your PC so we can diagnose it.

I never saw any message pop up. I've tried 4 different USB 2.0 ports. My USB 3.0 ports aren't usable.
I am runnings Windows 7 x64 Ultimate with latest HTC drivers installed.

Kinda stumped then! Only thing I can think is that you don't have the very latest drivers.
Can you ADB and see the phone? Check the following thread on how to do this.
(Sorry if you already know how)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2365506
If I do "adb devices", nothing shows up. Simple commands like "adb reboot" respond with "error: device not found".
I've just flashed ARHD 31.6 (Android 4.3) and re-installed drivers and my phone still isn't recognisable. I'm lost!
Okay, big trouble now!! I just read elsewhere that it could be an internal storage corruption problem, so without thinking I formatted internal storage along with data and system in recovery and attempted to ADB sideload a new ROM and was going to start over. Stupid idea! ADB still isn't working so now I can't even sideload or push a ROM. All I have to work with now is fastboot and recovery, and my PC isn't recognizing either of them. Any ideas?
YOU AREN'T GOING TO BELIEVE THIS!!!
Girlfriend stayed over the weekend and happened to swap our USB cables over. She left and took my OTG cable and left me with her identical looking USB charge only cable.
Just tried my mother's Nokia cable and voila! Installing device drivers.
Now to sideload a ROM and start from scratch -.-
I know this thread is old but if someone stumbles upon it this is what I did.
New USB worked.
***While using the USB cord that wouldn't connect like it usually does, I re-installed HTC Sync Manager and it immediately recognized it.

Usb problem

Hi, I am trying to develop lollipop for our device, but i have such a bad problem. I connect telephone to my general PC, Cable is OK, tried to connect to another PC OK too, but i can't connect only to this PC, any ideas? I know, that it isn't from the hardware or OS, because other android phones can connect normally.

Hi!
I had problems with usb 3.0 ports.
I read somewhere here about a solution to replace the microsoft usb drivers with intel's, but instead I just use another computer with usb 2.0 and it works fine.

What is your bootloader (hboot) version?
What is your computer OS version?
What are your drivers version?
What adb version are you using?
Make sure you have everything up to date and you should be able to have fastboot connectivity when booted in bootloader / fastboot usb mode. If you have hboot 1.44, you will need Windows 7, Linux or MacOS to use fastboot since its not working correctly with Windows 8/10 (not a problem with newer hboot versions).
Also make sure you are using the original usb cable and not only a usb power cable (without data connectivity). Only use usb 2.0 ports directly on your computer (no external hub). Make sure HTC Sync is NOT installed on your computer.

HELP- my OP3T not connecting to the PC

Hi all,
I have OP3T that just not recognized by my PC. I also have another OP3 that connects just fine to this PC. I tried dev menu and USB debug+ MTP, tried to wipe cache, install a new stock ROM downloaded from OP website, also installed the drivers in the PC.
device manager not shown anything when I connect the phone (no MTP device or Android device) and tried several cables and also another PC.
the phone was rooted until the last update (last December) and now I want to install custom ROM and I can't!
I think you want to fastboot flash a recovery?
What OS? Fastboot devices returns null?
yes, so I can install custom ROM eventually. my PC runs win 10 64X and right now my phone has stock android 8.0 (OOS).
what happens that when I connect my phone to the computer there is nothing going on- no now device in device manager and not a new driver pops, so I just can't flash recovery.
is there's an option to flash recovery without using the PC?

No generic MTP or Android device at all? On either PC, trying different ports (I know you said you tried multiple cables - which is good trouble shooting)? And no pop-up on the phone, allowing you to select MTP (move files, or whatever it says)?
If that I the case, I tend to think the USB port is damaged.

I've seen some folks package TWRP into a bootloader-flashable zip on other devices, but haven't seen anything like that on the 3T.
More importantly, I'd say it's very risky modding the phone with custom recovery and flashing a ROM, without having fastboot and adb tools available. You can get stuck in a real bad jam doing this, with tools to recover the device. I don't recommend it.
Yes I tried it all but there is no indication besides the device is charging while connected to the USB port.
OP support say that this might be the case, but I don't know if I want to replace it since my screen is cracked and it will brake it as soon as I open the phone
