[Q] bootloader on Verizon N6 - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do we have confirmation yet as to weather the bootloader will be locked up or not? I am not seeing a clear answer one way or another.
Sent from my SM-N900V using XDA Free mobile app

It will be locked. Just like the ones from Google, Motorola, T-Mobile, ATT were. BUT easily unlocked. Otherwise, it wouldn't be a Nexus. Word is it will be LP 5.1 and VOLTE out of the box.

Root question(s)

There's a lot of info floating around out there so I figured I'd try to set the record straight. And I can't be the only ones with these questions, so it might be good to have the answers all in one place.
From what I understand, the root for the note 3 on other carriers is working, even though some are still listed as untested. What would happen if one was to try the procedure on the at&t variant?
Next question is more of just a general outlook for the rooting future of this device. Is it looking like its doable, a hell of a challenge, or just plain impossible?

Same goes for the Rogers Wireless SM-N900W8 version in Canada... Usually anything that works for the AT&T perks for us so I'm just waiting....

From everything that I have read over the past couple of days AT&T has a locked bootloader. The TMobile version doesn't have one. The reason why root works for it is because it flashes a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP and then roots it from there. That is not possible with a locked bootloader. I would rather get the TMobile version of the Note 3 and just SIM unlock it and use it on AT&T but coming up with $700+ dollars is not an option for me. So I can only hope an exploit is found for the AT&T version.

There will always be a workaround. The phones only been out a little while so it's always best to wait and be patient. Yeah it sucks but early stuff can be unstable. No matter how hard it gets lock down it's not going to be "unlockable". It's just a matter of how much work it's going to take to unlock it.
Well its pretty much going 2 be a hell of a challenge. I'm coming from att Galaxy S4 & it has been crazy over there as far as this bootloader locking with att. U do have root but things haven't been easy by no means so I'm sure it'll be no easier with this device, if not more difficult. But hey I'm optimistic, if we can just get root I'll be happy...

I find the loki recovery to be easy on the S4.. remember Sprint and Verizon also will have lock bootloaders.
I doubt the two largest networks (Vzw, AT&T) will be left in the dirt.

Everyone thought the same about the S4 with the mf3 update then it got rooted with safestrap to load roms. Everyone thought you couldn't reverse it but it is now reversible. There is even a one click app to root it. Just give it some time.

T Mobile Soak invites

I read on the general forum that the Verizon X owners that registered on the Motorola website for the Soak program got invites. I registered a dew days ago and haven't received any notification yet. Anyone else register get an invite yet?
I am hopeful that with no branding on the T Mobile variant we will see a relatively prompt update without having to wait for T Mobile to push the update.

The last soaks roll out based on carriers one at the time, it all depend if t mobile is planning to release or not yet, i spook yesterday with a Verizon CSR and Big Red is planning to give us a xmas present thats could be the reason for that soak

T Mobile has nothing to do with Moto X, they don't sell it. There's no carrier bloat or branding. It is GSM unlocked. I don't foresee T Mobile having anything to do with it. My IMEI doesn't show what kind of phone I am using on their network because it doesn't exist in their system.

But verizon ones they are loaded, and dont forget that soak come with carriers bloat, also mine is showing on them system as XT1060 that means is Verizon version not sure if urs show as 1053?

I agree. I don't think T-Mobile will do a soak test. Pretty sure only ATT and Verizon did soak tests for the first OTA. T-Mobile got it way ahead of either of them.

Just because you registered on the MFN doesn't mean you'll get an ivite for a soak test.
Also, as said, soaks are carrier dependent. But they are also device dependent.
Just because a Soak is announced for the Verizon Moto X XT1060, doesn't mean that a soak is also happening on the XT1060 that might be available from another carrier, or a soak is also happening on another variant of the Moto X, like the XT1053 or XT1058.

Got hands on nexus 6 att

Hey guys i had to gwt my hands onecone. Im a verizon customer and i couldnt wait tovget lucky for an unlocked one . Is it possible for me to get this thing to work . i dont have a nano yet. Trying to get a friend of mine from a verizon store to help me out there. If thays the case, will the nano sim card work for me or no ? Im on wifi and i love this thing !!!!!
You need to unlock the phone. It is SIM-locked to AT&T
To get it unlocked through at&t I need an account number and all that. I'm a Verizon customer so I don't have that information. I just bought the phone retail at an att. I heard you can unlock through 3rd party. Are there any recommended sites?

If you're a Vzw customer, get a Vzw nano Sim.
I'm battling the same thing. I'm a Verizon customer and bought the phone outright through AT&T on a friends account. Went to cellunlocker.net and waiting for them to go through another database for an unlock code
Just got word from art that December 4 they will loosen the requirements to getting it unlocked for free. Which may help us

I was able to get mine sim unlocked and it's working perfectly on Verizon without any issues.
Through that online unlock website ? How much though . supposedly about to be free through att.. NP issues at all though? Lol that's tempting ...

[Q] Can I flash a SM-G925F firmware onto my AT&T edge?

Hey guys,
Is it possible to flash a international firmware onto an AT&T phone? If so, what's the best firmware to use? The BTU one?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The bootloader hasn't been unlocked yet and there's no root...my guess...no...unless you want to brick it.
You can't flash anything until the bootloader is unlocked. If it even gets unlocked

Thanks! Just trying to understand how this all works. I was able to do that on my HTC M8 so I thought I'd be able to do it on the Galaxy S6 Edge as well.
Thanks again.

If you like custom ROM's I'd go back to M8 or get an M9 dev edition. Going off the past Galaxy models on AT&T you are likely to never get the bootloader unlocked. Unless Samsung does something similar to what HTC did but I doubt it.
I really liked the M8 but the camera was one of the worst cameras I've had on a phone. The camera on the S6 edge is awesome and I'm happy with the phone. I may end up returning the AT&T version and getting a T-mobile or international version instead.

A word of caution, the International versions won't support carrier aggregation or VoLTE or HD Voice...Unless you have a specific need for root, you can disable 98% of the AT&T bloat. I ended up returning my International model because of these reasons and due to the fact that the signal was noticeably worse with the international version.

Thanks for your input! I'm really not sure what to do. I love this phone and I want to keep it. I have disabled almost all the AT&T bloat now and it's working OK. There's some interesting stuff happening here at XDA and maybe we'll be able to unlock the bootloader on the AT&T devices like the Chinese version, so I'm at a dilemma right now. I have until May 12 to return my device so I will decide by then. Although, after what you said, I may not want to get an international version after all, especially if the signal is not as good as the AT&T version...
So...
Did you flash the international firmware to your AT&T edge? If so how'd it turn out? Do you miss those features mentioned?
Thanks in advance.
No. I don't believe it's possible to do so until the bootloader is unlocked. I'm still using the AT&T version and haven't decided to trade it for the international version yet.

I was about to purchase the International version but there are tons of posts
on not all of the ATT LTE bands being supported. The ATT version even has the
2 brand new bands that will be rolled out so add those 2 bands to the unsupported list.
98% of the bloat can be disabled and you will get the Voice over LTE. I cancelled my
International version and ordered the ATT version. I am not looking back.
Also if you paid full price for the the phone you will get unlock code after 60 days.

Bootloader

I'm thinking about switching to tmobile from verizon as I'm tired of them locking all there devices and you can't do what you want. Just wondering what tmobiles policy about this is. Do they also locked there devices?

Main reason I just made that switch.

Same here, got tired of ATT locking my phone up so i made the switch and haven't been more happy. Tmo at best doesn't even mind the phone being unlocked and rooted, have read comments from people that have exchanged phones using warranty and didn't even bother to restore stock firmware.
