[Q] Unlocked At&t Moto X not connecting to new carrier - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I sent my At&t Moto X 2014 to get unlocked and when I received it and was told that it was unlocked, I took it to T-Mobile to get a SIM card to finally use it and it didn't want to connect to the carrier. It keeps saying to try again at a later time but the T-Mobile representative says that it may not have been unlocked right. Does anyone know what I can do or if it has happened to anyone else?

Ive never heard of sending a phone somewhere to be unlocked. Generally you either request an unlock code from your carrier or buy one from one of the many sim unlocking websites out there.
Have you contacted the place you sent your phone? That should be your first step. How much did it cost?

It was a cell phone store that usually repairs phones or unlocks them and so on, unfortunately I got out of T-Mobile too late to go back to the phone place. It cost $45 to unlock, and by seeing all these threads, I can already tell I overpaid.

Ouch! That's extortion! Unlock codes are usually around $5 from a third party site, or if the phone is off contract your carrier will give you the code for free. All you do is put in the new sim, type the code in the dialer and you're done. $45 for that is ridiculous. You definitely overpaid, sorry to say.
I saw in the other thread that some people had luck when they created a new APN. Have you tried that?

Yeah, I saw that, it was just my first time unlocking a phone and a friend had previously told me he got his unlocked there so I went there too. Never again, though. I did create a new APN and it connected to T-Mobile briefly for like 2 seconds before saying it had no service again. Now it doesn't connect at all. I don't think it has to do with it being unlocked wrong since other people have had the same problem. It definitely has something to do with the APN, I believe.

I had this problem and moto replaced my device. I still get disconnected from the new device but it's a lot better than the old one. I believe it's hardware issue. I'll have to call them again.

There is another thread in the "Moto X General" forum about this. Its a widely seen problem on ATT moto x which is unlocked and updated to lollipop. Jump to page# 36 in that thread and there is a temporary fix for this problem.

[q] unlock code for galaxy s4 active at&t

Really need a way to unlock my galaxy s4 active from at&t, just bought off ebay and rooted it but haven't found a way to unlock the network yet so I can use 4g with solavei.
I tried using the *#0011# method but couldn't past the initial screen.
Please any help would be appreciated.

All I did was call 611 and told them that I was leaving the country and I need it for business. However they have records that my previous phones have been unlocked for travels as well as me buying phone from them. You could always try and test your luck though. I've read a thread somewhere that someone got their S4A unlocked similar to how I got mine unlocked but they didn't specify whether or not they got it through AT&T or not. Oh and if it doesn't work with one rep, try calling again later with another rep. Supposedly some reps care and look into your records to see if you qualify and others don't give a crap. Good luck!
I have at&t and called them to try to get my phone unlocked. they told me it wasn't possible since I just purchased the phone back in August, even though I've had an account with them for the last decade and have had many unlocked phones with them.
I was told that this policy was changed within the last 2 weeks, not sure if that's a BS line they fed me or not, but have tried calling different reps and have had no luck.
Also, when I enter my number in online to the online request form, it automatically tells me my phone cannot be unlocked. Apparently new policy states that any phone that is still under contract will not be unlocked my AT&T.
where are all the helpful replies?
Im in the same boat. There has to b a way. Why cant we roll back the jellybean build to a version that has access to the unlock panel?
Why is unlocking not possible using a root method of some type??? Is this build truely not unlockable without a custom code? MOD Edit: This is a development site. Please do not ask for illegal unlocking methods here
post some links to helpful blogs etc please
This is the leading site for answers but mod says look elsewhere with no helpful redirection..... WTF?
Where should we go now then?

That's unfortunate. If it was me, I'd just keep trying to test my luck but I guess AT&T wised up a bit.

MOD kinda said they are a development site and don't partake in illegal methods. In case you didn't know, unlocking without carrier consent is illegal however rooting/flashing roms and etc aren't since they are just part of the opensource backbone of android. And to answer your question, google is a good place to start if you can't get answers here.
The reason the mods took issue with this is because the OP is not an AT$T customer, he bought a phone off eBay, and is now looking for someone to help him with his mistake. Carriers only unlock phones for customers as a courtesy, there is no requirement of them to do so. While XDA is all about modding phones, providing unlock codes for people who are not entitled to them is against their policy. Better that he bought one of the many unlocked phones for sale on eBay. I'm surprised the mods didn't also close this thread.
Look up Chainfires region lock away. Got a s4 active off eBay, rooted it with the activerootapp. Then used chainfires Regionlockaway. And popped in a tmobile sim card and enabled aws bands and now using HSPA+.

What are the rules on someone who buys the phone on ebay, but are still on at&t?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
Yep got chainfires app on playstore and used irish sim card which worked. I am with at&t and not looking to move but I bought my phone on ebay and if I go to Ireland I feel entitled to use it freely.

[Q] Help! Locked AT&T Moto X without anymore unlock attempts

Hoping for some help here. I'm a true NOVICE who bought a locked AT&T Moto X online. There were problems unlocking it and all attempts to unlock it using a code were used (not exactly my fault but it's a long story lol)
I've done some reading and I'm wondering if using JCase's ROCKMYMOTO method to root the phone using Cydia Impactor will also unlock it from the AT&T carrier?
(fyi I tried to install 'MotoRoot' and 'PwnMyMoto' but both were rejected — I'm assuming because the person I bought it from updated the Camera patch that nullifies the two earlier roots).
Any help would be great.

Bootloader unlock or sim unlock? Also, cydia? Isn't that an ios thing?
Pretty sure you are talking about the sim unlock which I know only gives a certain number to tries to get the proper code.
The only thing I can suggest is to plug the phone in so it has power and then let it sit at the code entry screen, with any luck after a number of hours it will again prompt for the code.

It doesn't bring up the SIM unlock screen anymore even when I insert new SIM cards. It reads my SIM as I can use theSIM toolkit and see my phone# but there is always the 'No Sim Error' icon at the top line of the phone.
okay well I guess there is no solution to it then... too bad I was hoping somebody would've had a suggestion or perhaps even an easy fix.
A heads up, if anyone here is with AT&T and wishes to stay with AT&T for the life of a Moto X I'll be putting a sharp Blue/White with Red accents MOTO X up on EBay pretty soon. It works great except it is apparently now impossible to unlock it to another carrier.
Cheers.

Did you try speaking with AT&T customer care? Surely there has to be a solution to this
Have you tried any of the codes from other Motorola phones that may bring up the unlock screen? I thought most of them still allowed you to unlock but forced you to wait a long time if too many incorrect codes were entered.
One of the codes I found was #073887*
Or leaving the phone phone powered up and turning airplane mode on and off after waiting a long time to see if the unlock screen will come back.
Even if you do root the phone it won't unlock it, the only way is the proper 8 digit code. I have unlocked two of them without a problem but they were Rogers Canada phones which seem easy(and cheap) to get unlock codes for.

I havent talked to AT&T as I bought the phone second-hand off of EBay. Plus I believe unlocking voids the warranty so I don't believe they assist me with it.

Thanks for some good suggestions I hadn't heard or thought of. So far no luck but I'm gonna keep trying.
I found a neat app on Google Play. It's for the Samsung Galaxy series call 'Galaxsim Unlock' and apparently once you download the app it'll do all the unlocking for you — ie. No entering the code yourself. That would seem to bypass my problem. I emailed the developer, 'Spocky', asking if there are plans to have an app like that for the Moto X and/or if he might know a solution to my problem. Fingers crossed!

Sim unlocking doesn't void the warranty. They should help if you still have service with them. If not, then don't bother. They don't care if you already switched to another carrier.

It's not that I switched service from them, it's that I bought the phone second-hand from someone who had AT&T service. It's IMEI is clean though. I reside in Canada so I couldn't get AT&T service as they don't offer service here. I don't think they'll help although I'll probably try to contact them since I have nothing to lose.
I'm starting to suspect that if I was able to put an active AT&T nano SIM in it then I might be able to get the network unlock prompt back by using some of the #codes like ##debug# or #073887*. When I try those with my Bell Mobility SIM it says unable to access network. I think I'll try purchasing a $10 or $20 pay-as-you-go AT&T SIM online and see if it nets me any progress. I don't want to sink too much money into something that might not work but another $10 won't really hurt. Otherwise, I was considering a trip to NYC the weekend after Christmas so I might have another reason to go.

With any luck it will work, who knows what rules Motorola has in place with respect to unlocking the phone.
You probably already know this but if you buy another just grab a Rogers or Fido phone, there is no problem getting the unlock code. The Rogers/Fido version also supports 2600 Mhz LTE which you should have access to. The AT&T phone has the hardware to support 2600 Mhz but the 4.2.2 version has it disabled. The 4.4 leak enabled it but I don't know if the official release left it enabled or disabled it. The Rogers/Fido also allows bootloader unlocking which is great if you want to flash leaks, root etc.
I've been able to pickup both of my Moto X's for great deals on craigslist locally.

I hear you there, I've never been a Rogers customer in my life. I was with Telus for 21 years, same account/number. Just recently switched to Koodo because of a very special plan and Telus was not interested in offering anything remotely close to reasonable. Of course Koodo is Telus so I didn't really move much, the joke is on them, I get more service for less money.

No I am still unable to get the 'Network Unlock Code' prompt when I insert the 'foreign' SIM into the Moto X. My last chance will be a trip to Buffalo next weekend where I can try inserting an active AT&T sim (who it's locked to) to confirm it'll still work on AT&T and whether that'll be enough to get the code prompt to come back when I put a Canadian SIM in afterward. Once I at least confirm that it still works on AT&T then I'll sell it to an AT&T customer if I can't get it to work in Canada.
I am having the same issue. Although I have an AT&T SIM and forgien SIMs all active and can't get the prompt to show up.
I purchased a unlock code, put in the foreign SIM, got the prompt. Then put in the code (1 time), it said "invalid code" and disappeared. I cannot get it to show up at all again. Would love it if the #07.... or any worked but so far none I have seen or tried do.

Hi there, I received a brand new Moto X from Motorola this week. I contacted their customer service and after they verified the SMEI number to confirm the phone was not labelled as lost, stolen or from a delinquent account, they gave me an email that contained a promo code for me to use Moto Maker and customize to the version of my choosing. They also provided me a Fed Ex label to mail in my old Moto X that was not functioning properly : )
I recommend contacting Motorola directly. Thanks.

[Q] Galaxy s6 edge sim unlock problem, please help

So i bought this sgs6 edge device from telus canada.
brought it back home, had the unlock code (also bought from telus and several sim free unlocking sites) and the device just keep poping up the same massage: "network unlock code unsuccessful"
tried every guide on youtube and on any forum i found online, nothing helped.
All the methods, through the dailer, everything.
Can someone please guide me how to sucssesfuly unlock my device?
Many thanks!
Sounds like you got a bad code. You should request a refund and buy one from another vendor. Be careful entering the code too many times. After 10 (I believe) it locks and you can never sim unlock it.

Is the phone paid in full?
The only reason I ask is that I bought an AT&T Nexus 6 shortly after they were released. That's the only Nexus not sim unlocked and my condition on purchase was for the seller to unlock it. We met at an AT&T store, I popped in my Verizon sim and the seller gave me the code. I tried it a few times but the code kept coming back unsuccessful. He called AT&T for the correct code and lady told him she couldn't give it to him because it wasn't paid off (although they had previously given it to him). After some conversation, he eventually gave them his CC # to pay it off. They then provided the exact same code. I hesitantly tried it again and it worked.
I also recently learned that the T-Mobile S6 Edge doesn't take an unlock code at all. It must be unlocked by T-Mobile or it can't be unlocked at all.
Perhaps the carrier is somehow keeping it locked front their end?

So you simply say i have to call them and fully pay it off, so they would relese some sort of lock they have on the device and then i would be able to open it with the exact same code?
If thats true thats might work. I'll try it and update for any changes. Many thanks!
Hey man, my phone is fully paid in. I talked to telus and they said the sim unlock is aprooved in thier computers so what is the problem?

Bought a Used Nexus 6 AT&T Won't SIM Unlock

So I messed up and bought an AT&T Nexus 6 on Swappa. IMEI checked out okay and all looked good. Seller said he'd used it on Verizon and was a nice guy.
Decided a little later to try out T-Mobile service and it turns out it is still carrier locked to AT&T. They (AT&T) have told me several different stories, but the latest one is that the original owner has to call and request the unlock. Well the person I bought it from bought it used ... And he's been trying to, I presume, find the original owner to see about him getting it unlocked.
Anyway, I messed up and I have learned not to trust an IMEI alone. But does anyone have any suggestions? I tried two unlocking services and they each took a week and came back with unable to unlock and gave a refund. AT&T unlock site says they can't locate the IMEI.
Anyone been through this? When I insert a sim it requests a sim unlock code. With my Verizon sim, I can make and receive calls and texts if I dismiss the sim unlock prompt, but no data. I can't even find where to enter APN settings to try that out.
At my wits end.

i think you can just use a sim unlock website idk a trustworthy one though
I would tell the person you bought it from to take it back. If he refuses dispute it through PayPal and they will side with you, have him pay return shipping, and refund your money out of his PayPal account once the delivery is confirmed by the shipping service. I think you have 180 days to file a dispute through PayPal. PayPal is extremely biased for buyers, which works in your favor in this case.
Whether that guy knew or not isn't important. He sold you a phone without disclosing that it was sim locked. Not to mention if you're seeing the error on verizon then so was he (he scammed you). Either way that's his problem to figure out after you get your money back.
Also please leave this information in his feedback on swappa. Those of us who buy and sell every month or more need honest feedback to know who to avoid.

Already tried two I've used before. It's hella weird that AT&T is messing around ... I don't want to go the hardball route but if he can't find anything out from the original owner I may have to.

Yup. They were the second. They couldn't do it. So they refunded. The IMEI isn't blacklisted so I really don't know what's up.
And the fact that I can call and text with Verizon, but only data is blocked, is weird. The phone registers on Verizon's network and shows up in My Verizon under my account.

If the phone is picking up the network that means it's not sim locked! There's something else going on here....

It has to be SIM locked.
T-Mobile SIM won't register on the network at all even though it's an active SIM. The T-Mobile SIM works in my other phones. Verizon SIM registers but no data available, and it still prompts me for a SIM unlock code even though I can make and receive calls and send and receive texts.
Honestly, if there's a work-around out there I'm down to find out. I can't even locate the APN settings on this thing ... Had to go in through a Nova Launcher widget.
Phone wasn't payed for or ATT would unlock it. They only lock data.

Sigh. They couldn't just tell me that ... I like this phone but I don't like being ripped off.
This bodes poorly for my first return to Nexus devices, but my bad for not getting a real Nexus. Whatever that is.

Luckily you bought from Swappa. They should hook you up. Then buy new from Playstore for discounted price. If it was cheaper there is a reason. Or find a swappa seller with a good history.

Don't wait for Swappa. They really don't have any leverage. You need to raise a dispute on PayPal. They have the leverage to get you your money back.

The seller has a good history, and has been communicating with me. I just don't know if he really knew how not unlockable this phone is. AT&T did a number on it, first with the extra software and then with the aggressive carrier lock. I'm not used to carrier locked phones since I'm on Verizon. They don't do that.

They require that they are notified first. Then Pay Pal. It's fine.

You are correct. Swappa will work out fine with a cooperative seller. But if the seller proves to be uncooperative at any point, they have no means to help further. If one opens a dispute on PayPal, it can be cancelled at any time. In a case like this, I'd start with PayPal now.

I believe your phone is SIM unlocked. Before unlocking mine, if I inserted a VZW SIM, I got a popup with something like "unauthorized SIM. Enter unlock code to continue".
I don't follow. If it prompted you before you unlocked it it would have been SIM locked. SIM unlocked devices don't prompt you to enter a network or SIM unlock code.

Correct. I am saying that it appears that your N6 is unlocked.
Nope it appears that mine is SIM locked. Not unlocked because if it was I wouldn't be prompted to enter the code. And it would have data on any active SIM. I'm going to try a refund. If that doesn't work, maybe someone with AT&T will want one. For a great price. Ugh.

AT&T Next locked on new Nexus 6?? wtf

So, I just got a brand new Moto Nexus 6 from Motorola themself. New IMEI, never had ATT service and I try to unlock the thing and it say's I didn't fulfill my Next agreement or pay it off? WTF I just got this phone brand new and I can't even sim unlock it? What kind of BS are they pulling. Its not even blocked on anything or showing up as financed.
If you got it straight from Moto, it should be unlocked already.

I got the device replaced. Its a ATT branded phone but still locked? I think it's some BS that ATT added so we can't unlock their phones.

If you're not on AT&T, call them up and ask them to unlock. It should be fairly easy to determine that you got the phone as a replacement and that you've never had AT&T service.
You may have to jump through a hoop or 2 (it's AT&T, wouldn't surprise me) but they should do it.

I'm prepared for them. I'm going to keep calm. This is the 2nd phone that said this. It says the device is clear on their bring your own phone esn check. I think they are trying to force me to get service with them. I had a Note 4 and it said the same thing.
This is deeper than i thought. My phone is a brand new ATT device and Motorola doesn't even know wtf is going on
Solved it. I had to go through Corporate and show them the invoice I got from Motorola and then I got the unlock code. It took 30 minutes. More reasons I hate AT&T.
Yea. They want you to activate for 30 days if paid for to give unlock. They a PITA.
