Hi all,
So I have a Moto G (2nd Gen). I received the OTA update sometime early Feb. We were the first to receive it in India.
So one day it started updating via my data pack and mid-way the data pack got over and the update was halted.
Restarted the phone and I saw that it was still in KitKat 4.4.4.
I tried manually checking for the update but all I get is this message "Last checked for update at hh:mm:ss" where the hh:mm:ss is the current time.
I tried restarting, force restarting the phone but I still can't get the OTA update message. Can someone please help me.
My phone is unrooted and runs the stock android
Thanks
Purav
Try to clear cash in settings , also reboot in recovery and clear cash partition and go to settings/app/all and find motorolaota app and clear cash.Try after that.

Yes, it is a good advice to clear Cache on recovery first.
But one sure way for you to get the OTA file again is to do a factory reset, but with that you will have to reinstall all of you apps and do the configuration all over again.
Keep in mind, if you root the phone, or change the recovery, the OTA update will not get installed at all, even if it being downloaded.

Do you have a custom recovery and/or rooted? If so, the OTA fails. The reminder will probably come back in a day or so.
Same thing happened to me. I received the notice literally seconds after rooting and flashing custom recovery. I tried it anyway for ****s and grins, and it failed of course. After rebooting post failure, mine also stated it was up to date.
I did it the hard way, flashed system and radio using fastboot. All up to date now. :good:
Bone stock no root or anything. Would hard reset work? Or will it reprompt soon?
It's hard to say exactly, but given the image was just posted by Google today, and OTAs are already pushing out, you may see it again tomorrow.
I cleared the framework. Still nothing.
Connect to a charger, it reappear and I was able to update. BTW make sure you on WiFi
So wifi connect to charger and clear framework. Will try. Anyone else have solutions?
Yet to repop update. Still getting the up to date...

Same here... fully stock and unrooted Nexus 6 with VZW sim. Got an update notification. Tried to update and the notification just went away and now says I'm up-to-date even thought the update never installed... still on 5.0.
Any solutionsnyet? Hard reset phone does nothing btw
Man... Was really hoping to wake up to the update popping up again. No dice.
att nexus 6 failed 5.0.1
Got notification on att nexus 6 completely stock, for the update to 5.0.1, after accepting the install and agreeing for the restart, it never restarted or updated anything. Still on 5.0. Checking for updates shows that i'm "up to date" and attempting to side load the update via ADB fails.
Got the ota update just now. Install was successful.
Hi there. For over 3 monts I keep getting OTA infos about upgrading to lolipop. I'm currently on Kitkat and my phone is being rooted because of the xposed installer + titanium backup and tasker.
As there are gudes on how to ROOT, I don't find any on how to unroot if one has Kitkat version of android.
In order to upgrade via OTA to lolipop one has mentioned I need to unroot phone and uninstall xposed installer as it might alter some files that unrooted phone can't.
So can someone pretty please link me to the guide on how to unroot phone on Kitkat so I can safely upgrade to OTA to lolipol? Thank you in advance and I apologise because I didn't find any explicit guide on how to UN_ROOT.

Edit I just realised this should be posted under Q&A. Can someone move it there?

EDIT: I just realised this is second gen moto g forum :S I have first gen. Sorry for that :|
If you're rooted with SuperSU then from within the SuperSU app, go to settings, scroll down to near the bottom and you'll see the option for full unroot.

I did it just like you said. Application closed itself. And I when checking for root it says I'm not rooted. Problem is that when I select download update, it restarts phone and goes to stock recovery mode. Then there is a progress bar about upgrading but I allways receive error and then reboot and after phone boots I receive info about OTA not being successfull.
So my phone is not rooted (At least titnium backup says si). But I still can't OTA to lolipop :S
What are my options here?

Have you tried a factory reset?
Would be a good start to do a factory reset because just unrooting will probably not be enough for installing OTA. You have to revert all changes you did to the system like removing things like adaway (with restoring the original host file), unfreeze systemapps or reinstall them and so on . If OTA fails after removing all changes you did (or you can remember) you should flash stock kitkat rom.

Hey all,
Thought I'd let those of you that have an AT&T Tab S 8.4 know that Lollipop has been released today. Happened to be on the AT&T Software update page here: http://www.att.com/esupport/softwareUpdateArticle.jsp?sid=KB425812&cv=820 and noticed it listed the update.
Manually checked for updates on my tablet, it's downloading now. My 8.4 on AT&T is totally stock.
Downloading now... 1.1GB
manually checking shows nothing for me
Mine wasn't too laggy after the upgrade. But as I know from places like XDA usually a very good idea to do a full system wipe which I did.
What I am most thankful for is there is now an option to remove that Samsung screen that has those Samsung widgets that go full page. Can't recall what it is called. Yeah I know could have got rid of that using a 3rd party launcher in 4.4 but so happy Samsung put option there to disable it finally. To get rid of it, long press blank space like you were going to add a widget, then click Home Screen Settings, then uncheck "Content Home Screen".
Has anyone who rooted with kingroot updated? I'm assuming it'll kill root, just curious if I need to unroot prior, or if the update will still install. I'll post the answer tomorrow after I update.
I've had some Samsung devices which will update while rooted, and some that will not.

Not sure it will work.
Maybe try to adapt the method given by ashyx here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/guide-how-to-root-tripping-knox-kitkat-t3129484
It worked successfully for me on the T800

I'm rooted with Kingroot and it's currently downloading the update. If you load Xposed Framework and Wanam Xposed, under Security hacks there's a setting for Fake System Status that allows you to set it to Original.
I'll follow up when the download finishes.
Update: The download completed but the install failed and then got stuck in a boot loop. Ended up having to go to the Samsung place at Best Buy to have them re-flash KitKat. Now the tab is telling me I have to wait 24 hours to check for updates. I'm sure everything will be good now that I'm back on a factory image.

Turn off automatic date and time and manually advance it by a day, and try again.
When they re-flashed KitKat did it wipe your tablet? The OTA failed me when rooted, failed me after un-installing adaway and un-rooting and removing KingUser. I cannot do a firmware upgrade via Kies 3 as it's not available. I cannot do an emergency firmware recover via Kies 3 as it's not soft bricked. I can't find either the KitKat or the Lollipop firmwares online anywhere... Currently I have a tablet, works fine, I did a factory reset (in the back of my mind knew this wouldn't work) that has a custom status and won't take the OTA.
If anyone knows where I can find the KitKat firmware, or the OTA, please let me know.
Or maybe someone could grab the OTA off their tablet after downloading prior to updating and share the wealth with the community???
Has any kingroot user tried triangle away, unroot via kinguser, and take the OTA?
Also just realized that if I can fail the OTA, I can obviously download it... Where do I grab it from if I wanted to flash it with odin or sideload?

OTA came down successfully while not rooted. The reflash at Best Buy didn't wipe it.
As far as I know, the factory images for the AT&T versions aren't available anywhere, or at least I've been unable to find them. They obviously exist because I'm pretty sure the guy at Best Buy used Kies to flash with an image that's available to him from Samsung.
I re-rooted last night in the attempt of using triangle away to clear customs status, then un-rooting. This was odd because device status still shows custom but download mode shows official and Knox is 0.
While I was briefly rooted again I downloaded the OTA in the hopes of copying it to my PC and updating via ADB Sideload... Couldn't find it. If anyone knows where Samsung puts these I'll grab it and post it to share.
im not rooted, performed a factory reset, and my device still doesn't see any updates. Can somebody provide a link to the ROM?

The OTA gets downloaded to /cache. If you are rooted you can see it. But the OTA is not a complete ROM, just a differential to the ROM you have.

Turns out there is a imei problem with the tablet that is preventing the download. My imei number is paired with a IPhone 4. Anyway will take a few day to fix then the upgrade should work.
I get the same. I wiped my device hoping for a different outcome, and still no update.
I found this in the thread below.
It is an old tread but I'll comment anyway. SM-T807 is the 3G version while SM-T805 is the LTE version. Both Hardware (CPU/GPU) and comms modules are different. So 805 LTE (which has Lollipop) firmware won't work for 807 (no Lollipop is currently available nor Samsung plans to release soon).

John.
After not being able to take the OTA after rooting, even after un rooting, not being able to find the OTA and sideload (not in /cache), and not able use Kies or Odin I finally took it to the Samsung kiosk at my bestbuy.
They reflashed 4.4.2, didn't wipe anything, and immediately downloaded and successfully installed the lollipop update after getting home and on WiFi.
Just don't mention that you rooted ;')
Hi
I've run into a problem while trying to update my Moto X (gen 1) XT1053 from 4.4.4. to 5.1. through standard OTA update. Here is the scenario:
- My phone is not unlocked or rooted, nor does it have modified firmware of any type. It is a fully stock XT1053 purchased directly from Motorola in the US that I have not tinkered with in anyway
- My phone downloaded and applied the update on Saturday morning and after the first section of the install rebooted. It sat at the screen with the M and "powered by android" at the bottom and vibrated once, then the screen went off, the same screen came back on and the phone vibrated again. Then an Android on it's back with a red exclamation and "Command" was shown.
- I figured out how to get into the recovery menu and wiped the cache, rebooted and no change. I then attempted to factory reset the phone, it did this but again no change.
- I spoke with a Motorola chat representative who was unable to help but I managed to follow some instructions on this forum to enter the fast boot menu, download and re-flash android stock 4.4.4 using RSDlite and get the phone working again.
- The phone attempted to apply the 5.1 update again yesterday and encountered the same issue again.
Would anyone have any ideas about what could be going wrong with the update process? Or ways that I can go about getting this to install correctly. The motorola rep seemed to think it was to do with my carrier, but as it was downloaded over wifi can this be the case?
If not, would anyone know how to stop android from continously prompting me to update to 5.1? I'm happy to remain on 4.4.4. if it means the phone will still remain functional.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Did you try going to settings and about phone, update

Correct, the update was applied through settings > about phone > system update

If you prefer to stay with a working 4.4.4 then you can try disabling some apps related to the OTA, like I think Motorola OTA used to be there although I don't see it now in 5.1, or Motorola Update Services, which now looks like you can't disable but anything you can't disable you can try unchecking "Show Notifications", and so on. if you check around the forum you'll find something that works.
On the other hand if you want to try to get 5.1 working you could try applying the OTA from recovery. while on 4.4.4 you download the OTA (see this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61304089&postcount=864 ) and then boot into stock recovery and choose to apply update from sd. hopefully it will work that way. ***Be aware however that by going from your failed 5.1 update back down to 4.4.4 as you said you did, you have put your phone at risk of bricking when you try to go back up to 5.1. since you've already tried it once, you might be willing to try it again, but just know that there is that risk and its on you if it bricks and you lose your working 4.4.4
Oh and you do have another option, you can stay on 4.4.4 until Motorola releases the whole 5.1 firmware or someone managed to get it, then you can flash 5.1 firmware with rsdlite like you did with 4.4.4

Thanks dtg7, I'll give that a try in the next day or so (updating via the recovery menu) otherwise will hold out for the 5.1 firmware and try RSDlite again.

Worked perfectly downloading the OTA update and applying through the recovery screen. Thanks for your help
I have a non-rooted, never rooted moto x that got the ota notification last night. I kicked of the download then went to bed. In the morning I dismissed the update message a couple of times while I was checking email and stuff. Later I wanted to update, but when I went to the "check for upgrade" item in the settings menu it now says I am all up to date.
What can I do, if anything to get it back?
Reading threads for other phones I tried clearing the cache partition. That took a long time, but doesn't seem to have worked.

yeah it's annoying when that happens. same thing happened to me on xt1053, I tried everything possible to bring it back but short of waiting for it to reappear there doesn't seem to be any way.
but waiting sucks so you can instead download the OTA to your phone yourself and apply the update from the stock recovery by choosing "apply update from SD"
here's where you find links for ATT 5.1 OTA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/waiting-att-xt1058-lollipop-5-1-ota-t3141107
I assume you know how to get into recovery since you already cleared cache partition.
I waited a few hours and it showed back up again. Good to go now (I hope...it is installing right now)
