I just don't see another modern spec option out there that matches the important features of the Xperia V for me, namely:
removeable battery
SD card slot
waterproofing
screen size under 5"
Availablility of Custom ROMS
Now the only feature I'd consider giving up is the water proofness.
But its still difficult to find anything that matches up. Now I'm down to looking at chinese brands such as the Xiaomi Redmi 2 2GB, or the Elephone P6000 - but both have questionable custom ROM availability.
I would have gone Z3C, but waon't compromise on the built in battery - I like to carry a spare to swap out when away from chargers, and am not interested in a portable power bank.
Anyone else solve this dilemma ?
Thinking about the same here. Z3c seems to have 3-4 days of battery under moderate use.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
HTC Desire Eye might also be an option, however the battery is non removable and the phone is rather huge compared to XV.
LG G3 is actually pretty good, practically the same specs as a Galaxy S5, not water proof, but still impressive hardware, removable battery, quad-core 2.5 ghz, SD slot, awesome camera, 3000 mAh battery, and about $200 less than the S5.
Downside for you is that it's 5.5 inches.

Yes! Especially if compared with my xperia v using cm11, my nexus 5 battery life is much superior than the xperia v, btw i am charging my phone nightly for daily use :fingers-crossed:
btw I have battery heat issues with my current xperia v if it using 3G network for internet connection its get too hot, thought no probs with wifi, hope this can be solved by updating to cm12

I noticed my phone was getting hot on stock 4.3 but not on 4.1. So i figured out that they changed the default cpu governor in 4.3 from ondemand to interactive. So I just use "no-frills CPU control" app and set the governor to ondemand on every reboot and now my phone gets hot only when playing games.
I hate this phone but at the same time I love it. I'd like to get a new one soon but I also don't want to get rid of my XV :/

Thinking of upgrading, a friend offered to buy my Galaxy Nexus and so I was thinking of selling it(for U.S.$150) and buying an N4. Is there $150 worth of difference in the two? I have never seen an N4 in the wild, so I have no frame of reference. The added bonus is my friend would be switching from an iPhone 4 so we'd be gaining a convert LOL. As far as ROMS and Unlocking/Rooting how is the N4? It's SUPER easy with the GNex of course, same with the N4?
I've owned both, in all honesty I preferred the galaxy nexus
The n4 is nice, but ruined by the fact that it's battery lasts 10 seconds, even with custom kernels
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Premium HD app
Eh I say neither. The leaked lg device is likely the opt g2, which will obviously lead to a rebranded nexus 5. I like the g2's design, so I say wait for Google I/o for any leaks.
If you must have one then get the n4.

I've owned both. Even when on a bad kernel/rom combo and having problems, the n4 battery life is still significantly better for me. Color tuning can get the screen pretty dang close to the amoled saturation.

3hrs screen on time is average for the N4.. Hardly 10 seconds and hardly anything to complain about either considering the hardware in the thing.

I have to agree with the above statement. I still see GNexi selling for $200-$250. If you're cutting your friend a deal that's one thing. If not, don't short change yourself.
I've owned both, and my opinion is the GNex feels better in hand. The N4 will have a longer upgrade time as the GNex hardware slowly becomes obsolete.
I would say pick up the N4. If nothing else for having a new shiny toy to play with.

I don't know how long the GNex's battery lasted but on PA with the calibrated kernel that comes with it (if I'm not mistaken that is essentially just the stock kernel) I had 24 hours with 2 hours screen on time (lowest brightness) and still 20% left. If that's not good enough for you then you'll need to buy a phone with a huge stock battery or the ability to swap out an extended battery.

That's wrong, I've owned both too and the battery is a tad better on the N4. With custom rom and kernel I was averaging 3.5 hours of SOT with the GNex, but I get around 4 hours on the N4 all stock and no root.
10 seconds?? Am I reading it right?
Its around 5 hours screen on time with franco kernel
In terms of pure performance, the N4 is really good. It has the same GPU as the Galaxy S4, HTC one, Sony xperia Z etc etc etc. This means that most games will be optimized for these phones, and the N4 should age well. IF you are into games this could be worth considering. If not, I've seen the galaxy nexus with jellybean and it was very smooth indeed - so it's not like performance lacks with that phone.
The screen will look very "dimm"/undersaturated compared to your galaxy nexus. I personally used some "saturated" pre-set and calibrated the screen to 2.2 gamma on RGB - and I subjectivly think the screen looks amazing now (day and night difference between stock settings and calibrated). Requires root i believe!
Battery life is just fine for me (~4h screen-on-time) with franco.kernel. I don't have any complaints, but i know many others do. So you should compare what you get with the galaxy nexus and see what people with the N4 get.

Yes, I wrote GPU mate. That is, the graphics card of the SoC. They all have the same Adreno320.
Also, I might add, the difference in architecture between the S4 Pro and 600 is minimal. What runs fast on the 600 will run fast on the S4 Pro as well.

You`re right, misread that. Haven`t been up for so long .
I have them both and if you enjoy playing games don't even think about it. Now I can use the phone as a game console and it is just amazing. Believe me or not, I even prefer it's IPS screen. When I look back at my gnex I can see pixels due to its pentile distribution and I just don't like anymore it's over saturated display. It's a matter of getting use to it I imagine... When you first have it in your hands you really miss it but after some days you love it.
You've got a TOP phone for many years with this. And gpu is even compatible with the upcoming OPENGL 3.0
Let's see what Google IO brings in a couple of days.
Regarding the battery, it's non removable battery is a drawback. Got around 3:30 hours SOT with stock or performance kernels as trinity. But franco kernel is just awesome. Easily getting nearly 5 hours of screen time out of it and performance boosts just when needed in a very smart way.

These are the models I have short listed:
Xperia V, SP, T, TX or Acro S.
I also have my eyes on Xperia M (but i don't know yet how much it costs or if its available, the functions of this phone is the just the right for me and im attracted to its smaller size), Huawei ascend p1, Samsung s4 mini and the Motorola droid mini (really good specs and hoping it would cost something similar to the rest).
If you had a choice which one would you go for ?
If you like the smaller ones then go for M

1.5 ghz dual-core krait processor plus 4.3" 720p display. Trust me I wear skinny jeans or skinny chinos most of the time and my Xperia V fits nicely in my pockets. It's not that big.

I would suggest one of the newer phones sinply due to the likelihood of getting further official updates through Sony if you don't want to unlock the bootloader immediately.
On that note I would suggest between the Xperia T, SP or the M if you do prefer the smaller footprint of the phone. A phone running a Krait chip should be your minimum for further dev support in the future.

None. Wait a week or two for the release of the Moto X. If rumours are to be believed and it is as cheap as they say, it will drive the prices down. Then make a decision.
Tipsters told both Android Community and GizmoFusion, the Moto X will cost $299 (£199) for the 16GB version, while the 32GB version will cost either $349 (£230) or $399 (260) in the US when it launches.

That is whats on my mind and hoping for now. I just came across the Moto droid mini now and edited my first post after being blown away by its specs. The droid mini seems to be the best.
Other than than, im still breaking my head trying to figure out which is best between Xperia V, TX and SP.
My phone usage would consist of :
- Work usage (calls, emails, work site images, work apps)
- Video calling and chat.
- High end and feel good design, handy size (smaller the better), durable
- battery life
- Ability to update to latest android and have good interface and experience. ( kind off bored with the older android versions and so would be great to have new look on the new phone)
buy xperia SP
- better battery life (almoste 2 times better than others)
- faster official update
- better GPU and CPU
SP or you are mad

The nexus 4 would be your best option, or wait for the Nexus 5.
In terms of battery the new Motorola droids being released have very good battery specs. Now Google own Motorola, they are reportedly adding AOSP support to the new devices, but will they keep them up to date with the latest firmware? only time will tell.

Advantages of SONY Xperia SP:
1) SP got a nicer design. (You'll be proud of what you hold in your hand. It's even shines different colors wow ).
2) Best specification for this price. (At the moment and next year too imho your device will rock)
3) It's pretty popular. (fresh ROMs, twicks and stuff will be for your choice)
Disadvantages of Sony:
1) It starts warmin' up at huge games. (but may be they'll fix it later)
2) Main speaker got some dirt.
I'm using SP for 4 month and still love it. (best of Xperia devices)
Oh, and it has metal frame, which makes it more secure and more valuable. :good:

depends really on what you want and what you need. I was so convinced at first in buying the Nexus 4 over the SP, but I got sour of the Nexus' very stock UI (though many prefer this) and design. So i went for the SP, and i cant be much happier. The LEDs are cool too, plus you get that premium look. My friends says it looks like an iPhone (I got the white one), which is a complement for them though i get kinda insulted everytime they say that.
I had considered to buy Nexus 4, but bought XSP instead because N4 has frail glass back, no SD card, and poorer battery. Those are deal breakers for me.

Im sure it is, however, based on beer goggles the day of my reply and the fact that N5 is a fairly physically challenged device, I do apologize for not 'metaphorically' extinguishing any flames that may have otherwise saved a perfectly good yet otherwise beautiful device and I might add, that only a mother could love.

Battery life is best by far I have ever had, and the measly N5 battery tilted my decision between N5 and Z1 towards the latter. I haven't been disappointed. Phone is rock solid, lasts through an entire day from morning to midnight with heavy usage, camera is actually pretty good, and despite the viewing angles (which don't bother me) the screen is also excellent.

Totally agree with you, I've had exactly the same feeling/iter....
I had the pick of the litter and lived with each of the big hitters for a few days each and at first the Z1 was my least favourite with me leaning more towards the G2, but the solid build, brilliant camera and pace of the handset just won me over, I've got no regrets on my purchase.
On a side note, development is the only thing that has put me off since, but as soon as that bootloader is sorted, it'll be cool and rom's will be flying in.
You could possibly hold fire until it's done, cos if they don't ever fix the bootloader / camera issue then it'll be a travesty and i will be killing some Sony employees.

As far as 4.2.2 works well I'm fine with the fact that we're stuck here (for now). I think that Android version doesn't matter as long as the phone works well. I bought my Z1 a week ago and before that I was on X10 with gingerbread and I didn't had any problems with that. I tried custom ROMs with 4.1.2 and 4.2.2 on it but it had some bugs (like camcorder not working) and the most important thing is that everything works fine.
About being light, I believe that Kit Kat is. But faster!? I'm using my Z1 for a week now and I installed tons of apps, I'm playing heavy games and listening to music in the same time, then switching between games, browser and poweramp and the Z1 didn't lagged not even once! This phone is a beast and I think that it can't get faster than this.
I would really like to get Kit Kat but the 4.2.2 works perfectly so far and while it's so, there's no rush for an update. Being faster (which is almost impossible) is not enough for an update. I'm hoping to get even better battery life and better camera in Kit Kat (4K video recording maybe!?) and some other improvements. Otherwise, the update wouldn't make any sense.

This is what I mean. It can be done but the Updates from Sony are close to nothing. Nexus 5 do not have this problems and the OS is always improved. I prefer Z1 anyway but I will be happy to have some updates soon as is possible, otherwise I have to flash some Rom.

This is the only advantage of Nexus, it has to have something otherwise people won't buy it All other is better on Z1: camera, screen, design, waterproofness, memory etc.
Hi guys, i just now can to exchange my xperia sp for nexus5 (need to add 130 euros more) is it worth?
I think that this would be nice? Any suggestion? Thanks anyway!
I would say so but others will disagree the nexus 5 was my first choice but I couldn't afford it.
Programming is a race between engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.
If you look at spec and updates I'd say go with N5. But the XSP is also a very good device. Just a bit (very) slow with updates from Sony sometimes

Nexus 5 without any questions
Im changing my SP with locked BL to moto G, if I can spend more money I'll go for an n5.
Never more to sony, only clean android devices like this moto and nexus, and custom rom.
Maybe in couple months I will find some extra money to change phone to n5 or newer (5,5" n6 would be awesome)

Well maybe benchmarks says that SP is better, but software is crap (lag, freezing and slow IO), it would be wonderfull to have unlockable bootloader, but its impossible on my one (orange carrier). I had nexus 7 and it make 18k on antutu after customization, multitasking was great and all creativity, SP got 23,500 but its much slower in multitasking and overall usage.
Package arrived, but I will test new toy after work :good:

Im not buying new device to downgrade software
On N7 multitasking still was lot better than stock 4.1.2 on SP
I strongly advice anyone against buying a Sony device. Slow updates and when you finally get one it's crap... again... I'm so frustrated by the SP, but unfortunately I don't have the money to get another device right now. If you can buy the nexus 5... do it! Otherwise the Moto G is a good option too. I said this before and people started ranting at me because the SP was much better in their opinion, but I've tested the Moto G and I liked it better than the SP. It even had 4.4 long before Sony started rolling out 4.3! And it has less annoying bugs which gives a better overall user experience.
Like binniebin said, you need the software to go with the hardware otherwise the hardware is nothing. If only Sony could make decent firmware :crying:
If you can have a very sexy and beautiful girl with Double D's if that's your thing, but she is stupid as a cow which drives you crazy after a while OR you can have a still very beautiful girl, but with a little smaller (you know what I mean)'s and she'll do almost everything as you want because she is smart(er) and understands you... You'd be better off with the second one eventhough people say she is less hot.
Yet another another anology: You can better have 150 horsepower in a lightweight streamlined car than 200 horsepower in a heavy old scrapheap which has the aerodynamic characteristics of a brick wall because the lightweight will be more fun... But well maybe that's just my opinion....

Better option is to exchange Xperia SP for Nexus 4 and take some cache.
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5048&idPhone2=5364
Same resolution, quad core on N4 and 2Gb RAM plus 50€ or more on your pocket.
Plus, you will always have latest available Android and many custom ROMs
You can see for example on ebay.de that Xperia SP is sold in auctions for around 170€
while Nexus 4 you can buy for 120€

Since @KiaTheKing is from Belgrade, Serbia (like me) :cyclops:
I don't think that would be the issue since 4G here is still not introduced
