Love gear vr but I was hoping to be able to at least download and watch movies that are semi current. At least I thought I could watch Google play movies in vr.
After watching the demos, there's not much else to do (not into games. Just movies which is why I purchased)

You can add your downloaded movies to the sd card folder titled " Oculus/movies/myvideos"
I bought it for the same reason.
But where can I download movies.... Like movies just out of theater?
I use torrent pro, its the best full featured torrent downloader I have found for android, PM me for more info.

Huh? Didn't mean to be an ahole but is downloading movies from certain sites the only way? Is there a plan to have some kind of store. Not judging anyone here just hoping there is a way I can purchase easily lime playstore. I'm paranoid about putting myself at risk for a 7$ movie. Lol

This is why they reiterate that this is for developers and not consumers. There's no reason to be disappointed if you read what it could do right now before buying. The consumer wish list might come true tomorrow, or might not happen for awhile or ever on this edition.

Yes the upcoming services Littlestar and Milk VR lets you stream 360 videos and the app M-Go Advance lets you buy/rent current movies.

It would be much easier if one of the VR video player supported Ultraviolet DRM (most Blu-ray releases let you download an MP4 with this type of protection).
Until we have that or a native store, you could always pay for the movie, then feel alright with downloading it. If you prevent seeding (by setting an upload cap of 0 perhaps), you're not contributing to others downloading without paying. It's totally a moral gray area, but something you could consider if you're really dedicated to buying movies to watch in VR (in a roundabout way); and definitely something for torrenters to consider now and then (paying for discs or downloads, that is ).
There's probably going to be more free content out there as time goes on, too. It's a small trickle now, but I've been seeing more and more 360 video interest, manufacturers, and content over the past several months.
Finally burned a cd and converted to mp4. Works well but takes too long. I'm not the type to spend 30 mins making a compatible movie.
Hi guys,
Read at the Oculus forum that FPse now supports VR mode. To activate VR Mode, go to settings-> misc-> video-> VR Glasses. Can't wait to try some horror games on it.

Seems some people got it working at the Oculus forum. Link Here.
This works great on the gear vr once you use the cardboard for gear app to allow you to run google cardboard. I can verify that ePSXe and PPSSPP work when switching to vr mode!
All I could find is 3D porn, which is amazing, but I'd like to download immersive live experiences, visit far away countrys, jump from plane, drive a F1 car, get into a crazy roller coaster, is there a thread in xda with this kind of content, maybe a website different from 360videos?

There is milk vr on the oculus store or you can play all the 360 youtube videos through the new gear vr browser

As I wrote, go to your phone, to folder - Oculus, then 360Videos and put it there.
Then open 360Videos app and it will appear right in front of you.

Hello Everyone
I have got my S7 Edge and my free Gear VR
I would like to watch my own video and movies on it which I believe I should be able to do.
For the life of me I cannot get it to work.
My S7 edge has a 200gb memory card in it so how on earth do I get it to work ..... its driving me nuts
I have followed guides online but still it wont see any of my videos.
The Gear VR even says " to watch your own videos just copy them to your phone " ..... AAAAGGGHHHH !!!! I am but it wont see them never mind play them.
Maybe that's why they gave them away for free with the pre-order of the phone.
I feel like an idiot because I'm normally quite good at this type of thing but I have been trying for days now and it has me beat !!
Thank You for any help

Don't think it deserves a new topic, so here i go:
My own videos (which i can watch normally with oculus video) are not shown in any of the "theatre" mode, like home cinema, cinema, ant, moon, whatever. All i can see is my video like it was watch just in VOID mode. Any way to see it in other modes as well?
Download VR Gallery from vr store and watch all ur gallery

The best and easiest way: First of copy your movies in folder name "Movies" wherever you like, either SD card or internal memory. You can also creat folders there i.e. 3D, 360 Videos, My videos etc. Then connect your mobile to VR and download app "Oculus Video". Open it then look at the bottom left "MY VIDEOS". You will find all your stuff there. Goodluck
Okay, so I've done a fair amount of looking around and since I was unable to come up with any information on how to do this, it's likely not possible. First thing, I admit I have yet to receive my promotional Gear VR from purchasing a Galaxy S7 Edge on a pre-order. I have just been trying to figure out what the VR is capable of doing. In particular I've been trying to figure out if it was possible to play games like Walking War Robots or Modern Combat 5 with the Gear VR. Had anybody had any luck with playing any NON-VR games with their Gear VR? I understand that it would be quite unlikely to have the software render these games in true 3D, but I'm more-or-less trying to find a way to play a standard game in a split screen view so it just looks like a large screen in front of my face. I don't think it would be too hard to take the original video output of a game and double it up in split screen for it to be used like this, but I'm no programmer, and wouldn't know where to begin. I would use my phone with an MHL adapter but I've been told it isn't compatible, but that's for another forum topic. If anyone has any info on any of this I'd appreciate it if you could get back to me. If this hasn't been done yet, but is possible, some developer could potentially make a lot of money making an app that would split the video output of a standard game. Thanks in advance to anyone who has any info on doing this.
Yes i'm also interested in this post. When you can only play normal non-vr games in 2D It's enough.
Holy word-wrap Batman. Sorry, your post was very hard to read without spaces but I will read slowly and try again (not to be jerk but it was honestly hard to read).
Okay, so you CAN play non-VR games with the Gear VR but it involves a few different things.
First off, you need a decent PC and a good bandwidth connection to stream to the phone.
Second, there are softwares out there that will turn your games into 3D - the most inclusive one is TrinusVR <---very easy to use, the harder one is Tridef 3D but the results are nicer graphically.
Third, it becomes hard to control with the Gear VR, so it really depends on what the game is and what support there is.
If you have Stream Theatre via the SideloadVR App, try that out. You need Steam on your computer as well. Pair that up with head-tracking such as FacetrackNoIR or Opentrack, you should be set

Thanks for this answer but I think we mean play non-vr android games or apps from our phone on the gear vr. So Normal apps which are already on the phone. When it's only 2D it's enough. Sort of second screen in front of your face. For example I've PlayStation remote app on my phone so when I can start that one up with the gear vr I can play my PlayStation

^Ah I completely misunderstood, sorry! But here is the question, most games use touch, how would you play without the touch if the gear vr is on your face?
I know some games allow controllers but I don't think we can do anything for that yet.
And yes, we can play steam games with Gear VR! !!

Yes, that would be very cool if there was a way but if you think about it from a technical perspective, you are changing the game resolution on the phone to split into two screens vs. streaming content which is easier to split into Side-by-side.
I will still keep hope, though! I know there is a way to play Android games on your phone...lol that would be too complicated:
Android -> to PC->stream back to phone in 3D

Also not for an S6 apparently. Supports something like 11 devices.
This is how
I have been playing emulator games in VR since yesterday (legend of dragoon, ff9), and even watched a little vr porn.
You need to get PACKAGE DISABLER PRO. It does cost $1.95, but its more than worth it. I registered just to post this so i cant link yet
Disable gear vr service, then you can do whatever you want in VR. This requires no root. Also apps that work with cardboard can work with hear vr. So in my case epsxe emulator has cardboard support, which means gear vr Support
Thank me later like drake

Seems you missed the point of my original post. I realize I can port PC games to my phone for VR use, but I want to play games that are meant for android on my gear in the original format, just split screen for the image of a large screen directly in front of me. And what we're you talking about word-wrap? There's clearly a space between all of my words. Shall I double space for you next time?

My apologies for misunderstanding, that native SBS app seems worthy but have not tried it with a rooted device yet. As for your word-space issue, I did not see any paragraphs so the sentences were hard to read. Good luck.
