Hi just got a my phone and when i open the camera it has problems focusing sometimes i have to place my hand in front of it to help (i have it on auto mode) any thoughts?
Focusing this camera on auto does it when you take the pic. If you wanna force the focus touch and hold the screen till it focuses but when u take pic it will focus again either way.
I've seen s5 people with the problem and the fix seems to be to clear the data and cache for the camera app.
Tap and hold on area of screen you want to have focus and exposure set or use another camera app what allow to set different focus modes. I personally like "Snap camera"

I know this may sound dumb...but, shake the phone when this happens. It might have something to do with the OIS. It works for me.

my note 4 n910t did that at first now it wont focus unless i hit the camera then it starts auto-focusing..
Mine started to have this issue too. Shaking it makes it focus again but I shouldn't have to do that.
If I hand the phone over to someone to take a pic I can't expect them to shake the phone first.
Same thing is happening to my friend, will using a new camera app fix it?
This is a hardware problem and is apparently common thing. Unlike other phones out there, this camera has moving parts since its an optical image stabalizer (OID), could have been sticking from transport. Slapping the phone will help it focus. You can do a warranty claim or if its still new, just exchange it.
i think its a hardware . i was thinking bout having it replace but im over to 14days period. i hate the fact that we bought it brand new and they will replace it with a refurb one and loose the resale value (imei will not match the box) there's a shop here in chicago that charging me 50usd i might go with that. i wonder what fix will they do. i hope they replace the module.

Hi!
Just got my phone back from repair and today when i put it down on the table I noticed a slight ratteling noise. I decided to try to figure out where the sound came from and it is coming from the area where the camera is. I figured it out by gently tapping around that area. What could cause this rattle? Is it something in the camera? Is it the autofocus lens?
Br D
Anyone who can confirm what it is? Just want to be sure that the repair shop havent broken my phone.

No ratteling here.....
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
It's usually the auto-focus mech that rattles in the camera, HTC's tend to do it. My O2X doesn't however, I checked when I got it, and this thread made me check again.
Damn....was hoping it was normal. It is really annoying sometimes. Since I didnt noticed it on my last Optimus x2 I suspected that it was something wrong.
Sigh.....Looks like its going to be another week without the phone then. The repair shop also scratched it. Getting tired of this....
Notice it here as well. Mainly if you tap around the camera or drop it in your hand (probably any surface, but not willing to try).
Can it be the vibration mechanism. That also sounds loudest around that area, it has anyway a loud vibration noise I have to say..
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App
Hmm then Im not the only one that has this ratteling. I have read several threads about the Nexus One handset having this problem. With the Nexus One it was the auto focus mechanism that made the noise. But if it is the auto focus mechanism on the Optimus x2 aswell then all should have this ratteling noise. Not only a few.
So, how should I proceed with this? Should I send it back in for replacement or should I just discard this as something that is normal on camera phones?

Since so many have it I think its normal. But I have sent an email to LG support asking them. Have not received an answer yet though.
I have it too.
Then i think its settled, its normal with this rattle and it comes from the autofocus mechanism in the camera. All camera phones seems to have some degree of this ratteling noise.
yeah this is normal after taking a picture with af. i had 6 and all of them made that noise, dont worry.
planning to buy this phone but i am afraid that i will catch one with a bad camera (camera creating purple/pink tint for the indoor pictures)
i read some forums and i don't know if its a software problem or hardware...the main problem is that i will buy new in the box sealed but with no warranty..... somebody can help with an advice
the statistic is making me worried :http://forum.xda-developers.com/poll.php?do=showresults&pollid=14531

Many phones got this problem even after sending it back to htc for fixing. Nobody really knows if its software or hardware sided.
I would recommend Nexus 5 instead. If you think that camera will be an issue than please don't take the risk. It's your hard earned $600 that you are spending. Go for the maximum utility, satisfaction. If low light camera capability is important for you, this phone is not worthy of a phone.
Written from a user who has this issue, and had no success in getting it fixed via HTC.

Bottom line this is the best phone ever made. Most cameras are fine just check everything out when you get the phone. 4.3 update is rolling out. Get a good case like Otterbox Commuter and a screen protector. Use Nova launcher. Here is my homescreen

to check you camera make a small (3-4 mins) full hd video and after try to take a picture on low light conditions
I bought my phone in May and by July it started developing the purple tint. While it's not guaranteed that you will get the purple tint, there have been lots of people who do.
Don't get me wrong. I still love my One especially for the Boomsound and LCD display. But I can live with the camera issues cos I use several phones concurrently so I just use another phone if I have to use the camera.
Ultimately it's your call. But my advice is pay extra for the warranty. Especially for this model. Cos if you start getting problems, without warranty you will have no recourse.

100% sure it's software, most phone I have had have had purple/pink or greenish tones in some circumstances which could be corrected with whitebalance settings. My one had purple pictures too after 422 upgrade but now is fine again after 4.3 but maybe not sensor are 100% the same and it might take a little more tweaking by htc to get it right. The One is the best arounfd 5 inch phone out there by a long shot, sense rocks, boomsound, I couldn't live without it anymore, zoes are awesome, the live gallery, blinkfeed. All in all the One is so much better than the SGS4, only if you wany a phablet I would consider another phone.....

Hi I recently got a Note 3 but today I went to take a photo and the camera isn't focusing anymore, it's completely out of focus and won't work at all. I used it a couple of days ago and I'm not aware I've changed any settings. Could I have done something unintentionally or could it be a fault?

Sounds like the focusing motor (or some circuitry associated with it) is intermittent. About the only time any of mine have ever taken more than 1 second to focus is when they failed to focus at all (like trying to find the minimum macro focus distance, or trying to read a barcode when it's so dark I can barely see it).
I think you're right...
I just hope the process to get the phone fixed or replaced isn't too much hassle and that I get a phone i can easily root at the end of it...
Cheers, Richard

We're talking about a Note 3 so how much more easily do you want than clicking the Root button on Kingo? I've rooted 3 Note 3s with it so far and the most difficult part of the whole process was downloading the program from their slow server (not that I'm complaining).
I haven't looked at Kingo at all, all my research had been on RDLV and URDLV.
As long as it doesn't trip Knox, I'm sold!
Will look into it now, cheers.

Kind of old thread but I wanted to share that I also had the same issue with my Note 3.
I got my "mega camera" changed on warranty at a authorized samsung service point. I told the service point that I use it as a company phone and I can't be without a phone.
He said it wasn't a problem - "Come down here and I'll change the parts in about 15 mins"....
Said and done! The camera works and focuses perfectly again!

Possible water damage within the lens or some other hardware issue. If it's been in water lately I would try putting it in a bag of rice, but water damage to a camera would be pretty irreversible I'm guessing.
I would try several different cameras, such as focal, picarts, vsco cam and see if there's a difference. Could also be a firmware issue, but you're on stock so that shouldn't be it. If you wanted a good camera, you probably shouldn't have bought this phone anyway
Have you tried resetting the phone? You might want to try the 4.3 update but that will get rid of root. Other than that, is it still within warranty?

Maybe it was being sold due to the camera... Also, as a small substitute, you can still use the front camera and use the volume button as the shutter, rather than guessing where the one screen shutter is.
To know if you're android is rooted, go here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck
If you've done a factory reset it's probably not rooted no, even if it was before, depending on your ROM.
Eh prolly ill ask the seller see if I can return or w.e. cuz it didnt say anything about the camera on the description so I should be able to get a refund and I actually found that app like an hour ago and it turns out it is rooted so yea but still just prolly gonna sell it or get a refund n get a dif phone I guess but thanks a bunvh for yhur help!

I just noticed this, put your phone in front facing mode or selfie, whatever you wanna call it. Make sure it's set to the max 5MP. You can see blue dots without covering the lens but let's just do so in this test.
I have two blue dots on the right of the screen which also show up in pictures. No it's not a screen defect because it stays in the same spot on the picture when scrolling left or right in the gallery.
The dots are not there if I change it to 3.8MP, more than likely because the aspect ratio is 16:9 as opposed to 4:3.
Try it out.
Note* I noticed when I attached the picture it rotated 90° counter clockwise so you'll see blue dots up top
Happening to me as well. That's interesting. Mine look different though.
Lol!!! You guys are lucky!! Check out mine!!
But they only show in very dark pictures though
Well wtf. It's always something right? Okay, so is this a physical problem with the camera, or a software issue?
It's because it's a Galaxy phone and we all get different constellations !
I'll think of it as a Galaxy phone Easter egg
I started a thread in the general S6 forum about this, hopefully it will get some more views.

I really wouldn't care, but I take selfies with my kids a lot.
Wtf
Try it on the 3.8MP setting, since the aspect ratio makes the image a bit more zoomed in my dots go away, I wonder if yours will still be there considering you have a lot more of them.
I see mine even with the lights on, granted its not very bright but still there .
See pic attached lol its on my forehead.
Why does this page keep rotating my images lol
Blue dots are on everything for me except for 3.8

Ahahah yes! I think you hit the nail on the head
Interesting how when I use other apps such as Snapchat there are no dots.
Edit* NVM its still there on the Instagram Camera, kinda annoying :/
Unfortunately, I don't think it's a software issue
I tried all the qualities and I can't see any blue dots on mine, but really samsung... Another manufacturing defect? I wonder if they even have quality control at this point
I have blue dots on my s5 but its on the 'outer' facing camera
For what it's worth when I was in the T-Mobile store today getting a return there was a Samsung rep there. He said it definitely shouldn't be doing that and took pictures of my phone and samples of photos I had taken with the front facing camera and sent them to their engineering department.
Called T-Mobile about my seven dot issue and they authorized an exchange for a brand new phone pending a factory reset I have to do before I get to the store. ( meaning if the factory reset fixes it then there's no exchange)

Yeah I got another one being sent to me, I had another issue too.
When the screen would kick up to full brightness that only happens in extreme sunlight I would get this L shaped shadowing on the left and bottom of the screen, about half an inch away from the edges of the screen, it was really weird.
No blue dots on mine, looks like a camera defect.

Glad you got yours already, I called stores and they wouldn't do anything for me since I "bought it online" so I had to do it over the phone.
The 1st lady I spoke to wouldnt help me at all, she gave me two options; 1. Send the phone back and wait about a month for them to verify a problem and then send me another or 2. go on the website and get this "BUY IT AGAIN" lmao and send this defective one back, granted I only paid $160ish through my Jump program ($100 down payment for the 64GB and the rest was tax and shipping) I wasnt gonna go and do that again though, lady was out of her mind.
called again and this dude was more than happy to help, didnt even ask me to go into whats wrong with my device.
