Is there anyway with the android store that I can share my purchased apps with my wife's phone. iTunes allows this feature.
I got some mixed information when I looked this up
I don't know if this would work for sure but you could pull the .apk from /system using ADB and then use the Sideload Wonder Machine to install it on her phone.

itunes has allowed this since version 9.0 (I think) - as long as the same iTunes account is used on up to 5 different computers you can install the same apps on your different devices.
When I had an iPhone, anything i purchased I could put on my wife's iPod Touch. iTunes sharing lets you share libraries too - music, video and apps.
For Android, can you log into the android market with the same account on 2 different devices? I would think this would work since the market lets you an account that is different then your gmail account.
I understand same account doesn't work.
Plus it will try and sync my stuff on her phone.
And yes, iTunes allows this and it's a very nice feature.
Ok, this is probably a dumb question and I tried using "search" on the forums, on my device, from my computer and cannot seem to find the book I bought on the google market. I see it when I use Google Books app, but if I open kindle, or Aldiko I don't see the book, and when I use Root explorer I can't find it either. Anyone know where it gets stored?
I do not have google books on my touchpad but I do have the kindle reader. Book files are stored at /sdcard/.palmkindle

They are stored in the cloud. The only thing stored locally is a database file and the covers at /sdcard/android/data/com.google.android.apps.books/files/accounts//volumes. You can test this by putting your device in airplane mode and then try to open a book.
there's an option to store the books for offline use. they end up being stored here:
android/data/com.google.android.apps.books/files/accounts/*your email acct*/volumes/book
the book folders aren't labeled 'the book of basketball' or w/e but you can browse thru the folders. it looks like they are all separated by chapter in the "segments" folder.
converting those files into a sharable file is something that i don't know but i'd imagine someone has done it.
Hey all. Lately I've been on a mission to "cut the Google" cord and have now worked my way down to my Nexus 4. I was wondering if anyone else in the Nexus 4 community runs a Google free device.. Maybe we can share our setups and suggestions.. Android for me isn't what it was when I first got involved.. More and more Google seems to want to dig deeper and deeper into tying everything on a phone into their servers.. I'm sorta over it and Google itself at this point with their hamfisting of their apps and services .. I love the OS, not the company.. Hence.. AOSP without Gapps..
My Google free setup right now is the following
ROM: Raskat (without any Gapps or Google Play Services obviously)
I use the following as my software sources.. Main one being 1Mobile Market which is one of the largest (and legal) Play Store alternatives.. Even has Chrome, Maps, Play Services etc if you actually want Google apps. (which would defeat the purpose but they are there)
Amazon App Store
F-Droid
1Mobile Market
Slide Me
Mail: I haven't ditched gmail yet as I have 3 gmail accounts and it's going to be the largest move away from Google and saving it for last. I connect with the AOSP email IMAP client for now though.
Browser: Cleared all my saved bookmarks and passwords off Googles Dashboard and manually create a list of bookmarks saved locally only in AOSP browser. Passwords all saved locally in KeePass
Contacts: I exported my contact list from the Google servers as a Vcard (then deleted them all from Google) and imported it to my contacts app. I keep a backup on a cloud service and locally if I update them.
Maps: I use MapQuest as it doesn't rely on the Google Maps API.
Calendar: is my only missing link right now as most all calender apps I found rely on Google Calenders framework to sync etc.
So far I'm enjoying it. I lost a lot of payware from the Play Store I've bought over the years but I'm learning to live without it. I'm thoroughly enjoying knowing my device is truly Google free at this point.

Nice to see I'm not the only one here so far.. There are a lot of options out there and 100% completely possible to run a 100% completely Google free device.. AOSP is beautiful without Googles apps and Play Services hamfisted into it data mining god knows what. I also don't miss the Play Store and everything and anything having a price tag attached to it regardless of quality.
It's nice looking into the accounts section and not seeing Google or them even being an option.
Another great Maps alternative is OsmAnd Maps and Navigation
Is there also an increased battery life using your phone this way without all the processes running in the background?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
Probably but I haven't really focused on that so I can't give any sound feedback. Running your device this way is more of a personal choice to get rid of "big brother Google". I liken it to dumping Ubuntu for pure Debian instead.

I have thought about doing this many times but for me it is all about the ease of the items I use from Google that make my life easier. Also, the play store has me hooked in because I have spent quite a bit on there.
Yeah I'm in the process of doing the same thing. I'll be honest Google wanting to access more and more of my data has gotten to me a little. It's okay for them to manage my mail (I've come too far), but when I get notifications about flight itineraries it goes from being convenient to conveniently creepy. To be frank, I have no doubt that Google is as responsible as any other company is with my information. And given their user base, the occasional slip up is to be expected. But the bottom line is I don't really enjoy a multinational corporation having that much access to my personal data. And no, they're not harvesting all my information and selling it to other companies to spy on me, like some think.
I just feel like they ought to be reined in a bit. And F Google+ and uploading my photos without me having ever asked. Do you, Google. Just do it without me.

Nope.. I never created an account. it is optional or sign in with your Google account. Nothing to buy there really anyway. Has everything I need that is normally carried on the Play Store. Just the freeware versions.

You mentioned you use the aosp browser. Just so you know, that is a google app, and if you allow it, it will sync to your google account.....just sayin' I personally think firefox would be the first choice if you don't want anything google. It allows firefox account syncing, plugins, etc. And the plugings aren't cheesy like dolphin's. They have real ones like ab+, and all.
AOSP Browser without Google Services Framework will not sync to anything, it can't. It's Impossible. It is a plain as day web browser with local bookmarks being the only thing available. If I go to add an account in settings there isn't an option for Google because nothing Google related is on my build. It's AOSP as AOSP gets.

Mind elaborating as to why? Purely curious lol. I personally only do AOSP builds, myself, but I'm interested in why you are so anti-CM? I assume nowadays it has to do with Cyanogenmod, Inc.?

Since you asked and I'll keep it short.
What Cyanogen Inc is now isn't a surprise to many.. Most purist (read: Fans of AOSP) Android users after CM7 saw the direction CM was heading and abandoned ship at ICS/CM9. I've said many times.. Cyanogenmod 7 was the last good Cyanogenmod. Instead of just making a cool AOSP based ROM with features they started trying to make Cyanogenmod a "thing". It all started with that terrible File Manager they shoehorned in and snowballed from there. It's laughable at best to pitch Cyanogenmod on the "AOSP Derived" line that so many still use.. At this point it's like saying the Ford Fusion is derived from the Model T (ok, that's an extreme example but you get my point). Add in everything they did when the Cyanogen Inc company was formed.
Nope..
Wow.
I could never imagine doing this.. I use Google for contact and calendar sync and email, bookmarks etc... even on my Lumia 520.

Yeah.. It's a personal thing. It hit me just how much data Google hoards when I randomly looked at my Google Dashboard one day and saw the Chrome Sync stats. Seeing in pictures just the sheer amount of data they have on me was a "moment". Then I started just piecing everything together about how many sectors of technology they've got their hands in all based around "providing services" over the internet. I just decided that was the end for me. I deleted all my dashboard data, went back to Firefox, deleted my Google+ accounts. I'm just going back to the old school days.. Limiting what is given to companies and lowering my online profile. For now keeping Google just for email and nothing more. It's just not per-say Google.. It's just the current trend of everything "needing" to be online and "synced" in some cloud. I don't need my entire livelihood and trends online.. No one should.. But... That's just my opinion. I can't stay away from everything (I mean I have a Facebook account) but I can do a lot to minimize what is given.
It looks like now all you need to do is install OneDrive from the Google Play onto your S6 or S6E and log into (or create) an account to get the free 100 GB for 2 years offer on VZW or AT&T!
Using a TMo or Sprint store model is no longer required!
Thanks to all of the users that have reported back on their experiences!
Just curious if anyone has been able to take advantage of the 115 GB OneDrive for 2 years offer that Samsung promoted with this phone? [URL="http://www.sammobile.com/2015/04/14/us-carriers-are-removing-certain-features-and-preloaded-apps-from-the-galaxy-s6/" said:
Sammobile confirmed the pre-installed OneDrive was removed by VZW and I was wondering if anyone re-installed it and got the additional storage.
UPDATE:
WORK AROUND TO GET THE FREE STORAGE ON AT&T OR VERIZON:
Verizon and AT&T removed OneDrive from the GS6 & GS6E before shipping and as a consequence prevents their users from taking advantage of the free 100 GB of storage offered by Samsung.
This work-around was confirmed working at androidcentral.com:
Go to a retailer that sells TMobile or Sprint phones like Best Buy, Sprint Shop, etc. (just not an AT&T or Verizon only outlet).
Use a TMobile or Sprint display model to log into your OneDrive Account. It should right away prompt you to claim your 100 GB of free storage. Select okay and you'll immediately see your OneDrive account show 115 GB of storage.
[*]Sign out of the demo device by going to Profile > Settings > Sign Out.
DO NOT FORGET TO SIGN OUT AFTER YOU LOG IN!!!
FAILURE TO DO SO COULD ALLOW OTHERS TO ACCESS YOUR ONEDRIVE ACCOUNT FROM THE SAME STORE DEVICE!!!
NOTE: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU LEAVING YOUR ONEDRIVE ACCOUNT VULNERABLE BECAUSE YOU FORGOT TO SIGN OUT!!! If you have a buddy with a TMobile or Sprint GS6 or GS6E, you can log onto their device in the same fashion.
Easy Peasy

@jeff_roey, I highly recommend you place a disclaimer in the OP for security reasons as people would be logging into devices they don't own (as per your instructions). Even though it's pretty obvious, to keep yourself safe you may want to explain that you will not be held responsible if people forget to log out of their accounts and such. I posted this over on reddit and some users pointed it out so just FYI.

I did this with the 50GB dropbox promo they had in the past, works well.
Received my free 100GB on Verizon
All I did was make a new account, few days later I received a notification from Onedrive saying I had an exclusive offer from Samsung. Click OK. And boom, I had it.
at first I installed One Drive and it only gave me 15gb of storage. what I did was un-install the app, re-install it. when you get to the end of the setup screen it will ask you if you want the 100gb free. all I did was enter my email from my MS account and when done installing it showed 115gb of storage. and I`m on Verizon.. just wish I could get the "Smart Manager" feature.
Smart manager is just powered by clean master and clean master is horrible.

So we can still get the extra 100gbs without using a TM/Sprint phone just by installing the app?
That's all I did. Made new account and few days later received the notification

I install the OneDrive on to my Verizon S6, and instantly got free 100MB.:good:
After replacing my wife's broken (screen rotation issue) phone Monday night, I noticed that OneDrive asked (again) if we wanted the free 100GB.
"Sure!"
It now reports she has 240GB available - up from the 40GB that she had before we got the S6 Edge.
Not sure if they'll ever catch that, but it appears to be incrementing it on each phone that gets provisioned.
So I don't know if Verizon/Microsoft/Samsung changed anything on the backend but I just got my S6 on Monday and installed OneDrive fresh only one time, logged in to my Microsoft account, and got the 100GB without any special tricks.

Yes, it's been confirmed...and you do NOT need to create a new account. I got my 100GB on my new Outlook account that I set up recently because I purchased a new laptop, and my old, old account that I set up for XBOX Live.
Procedure: Step 1 - install OneDrive from Google Play.
Step 2 - Sign into OneDrive with existing Microsoft account.
Step 3 - Sign out of OneDrive
Step 4 - Un-install OneDrive
Step 5 - Re-install OneDrive from Google Play
Step 6: Sign back in using the same account from Step 2, and it should open directly to the 100GB promo page !!!
Step 7: Enjoy
Was able to get the promo on the first installation of the app. My only bummer is that it's a 2 yr promo, at which time I'll have to go in and copy 100 gigs of stuff onto an external hard drive somewhere. (which will be great on a regular high speed connection... 100 gigs? should only take a week...)
The Samsung Offer is no longer available with the latest OneDrive version on a VZW GS6

Nothing. I've installed, uninstalled and can't get the free storage. There's even a Disclaimer that states if it's not pre-installed that you won't receive it.
I stumbled into a potential privacy problem involving how Samsung Cloud does not allow the deletion of data previously synced with other Samsung devices with the apps S Notes and Samsung Notes.
I had a galaxy S4 in 2014 with which I created a bunch of notes which were synced into the Samsung account data cloud. I now bought a Note 8 and started reusing the apps S Notes and Samsung Notes. Upon first use of both apps I noticed in the settings that there was the possibility to import data from Samsung cloud, and so I did. I found 14 notes sitting there since 2014. Imported them, deleted them and re synced the data to cloud. Reopened the app to check if they were gone, but they were still there and available for import. Btw the notes are image file not text editable. Anyone with the same problem with suggestions on how to get rid of them for good ? I tried any solution possible with the apps, cloud storage management and backup and restore routines but nothing worked. Samsung support couldn't suggest a working solution either. This is a blatant breach of privacy and if not solvable it should be signaled all over. Thanks in advance

Hey there, tava tou tried deleting tua data thru their website?
I've never actually had such an issue... I was and am capable of deleting data created from my note 8 (tablet) on this mobile and also from the note 3... but then again I still own the devices and use them fairly regularly still...
Edit: disregard the above... it's as if it just flags them as deleted and won't auto sync... after forcing a manual sync the notes I thought I could delete are now back... this is indeed a great privacy flaw... let's hope we find a solution, I'm gonna dig Samsung's account website once I get home... hope there's a way to delete them there...
Thx for the heads up OP!!

Thank you for trying. I'll keep digging myself and post updates if any, but for now it seems an impossible task, and Samsung support is no help with their proposed solutions. I've posted again the question with more details and we'll see what their answer is.
Update : no good news. The same exact thing happens with the S Note app for Windows (downloaded from the Microsoft store)
No way to erase the old notes from the cloud. Imported them again, edited them to erase the note, saved blanc, renamed the note as "delete" and synced with the Samsung account cloud. No changes whatsoever. They were there again available for import exactly as before the above work !
I would suggest people to look into the behaviour of the Samsung Cloud and if they are able to delete data at will be it notes or pics or videos. I think the problem is not only with notes but that was all I used to sync on their cloud. I disabled all sync and backup options to the Samsung cloud for safety.
I've managed to delete my notes from Samsung cloud [emoji848] even after re-syncing or importing my data from Samsung cloud it's gone.
Are you sure you deleted your notes from the recycle bin?

I opened the app on my note 8, went to the trash can and found the ones edited before using the windows app and that I had renamed to make sure not to mix them up with the original ones. Obviously they hadn't been synced with the cloud. I deleted them from trash and synced again.
Then I went to settings-import data from cloud and the old notes were still there unchanged. Titles and content unchanged, so I imported them again, deleted them and they didn't even show in the trash can of the app. Did another sync but nothing changed.
They're still there available for import
More weird behavior. I imported 1 of the old notes stored on the cloud. Edited content and renamed it. Deleted it and in the trash can it appeared with the old title. The rest behaved as before. Emptied trash and synced but no change
Btw... the whole thing seems to work fine with notes created with the device you try to delete them with. My problem is that these notes are years old and I don't have the device anymore

Also a possible solution would be to delete your cloud account or s note account either manually if possible or get Samsung to do it and just make a other one using the same or different email address. Surely deleting your account would delete all data on that account in the process

Thanks for the tip. I'll take them down even if it is old and surpassed data and that's why I want them deleted from the Cloud. Changing account doesn't solve the problem as the data would remain on their servers. I'm waiting for a response from samsung support hoping they finaly understood the problem and don't give me another useless solution or answer as they often do

You meen from the smartphone settings delete the samsung account ? But then I would have to create a new one and if I use the same credentials it's all back as before, isn't it ? And how can I be sure that the data is removed from the cloud ?

Honestly I would give it a go, realistically if you delete the account surely it deletes all data with it so I'm sure you could make a new account with same credentials and won't have the data back. Can always ask Samsung if you delete the account do they delete cloud data also, usually they do

Deleting you're account would solve the problem as I already stated. Delete not change

I did on the smartphone and now looking how to do it on their website as, off course it's still present and I don't think that just doing it from the smartphone would work otherwise I should have lost all my data already when passing from one phone to the other and resetting to factory standards before selling the old one. I never pass data with their apps and always configure new phones from scratch. I need to delete the account from their website to hope that they delete data from the cloud. Plus without a Samsung account on the phone I can't update the basic apps of the phone

Samsung apparently flags sync data with a unique device identifier. To delete sync’d content from Samsung’s servers, you must have access to the device where the content in question was created. If that device has been sold, lost, stolen, or broken, then it's not possible to delete that data. Have you had a reply from Samsung yet?
