Hi all.
I attached picture what happen to my nexus last night , it was bit warmer than usual .
When I bought nexus and till yesterday I thought that word " NEXUS" from back cover is painted like Motorola "M" sign on top , but I was very surprised when I saw this in the morning.
I was shocked. The hole nexus sign it is glued to back cover
Motorola , thank you for quality you provide, NOT !!!!!!
lol, keep crying. so it got raised and you pulled off half the x, so what??? if an x makes or breaks the device for you, buy one without lettering on the back next time. mines missing the n, x, and s. do i care? not at all. and its my fault as well, not motorolas. mine came off when cleaning the back side of the phone with an alcohol pad and bounty paper towels.
As I said , I didn't even imagine that manufacturer can use so cheap solution for premium class phone.

Brings the value down of the phone. Sold my nexus 6 with 2 letters missing had to drop the price . how can i advertise great condition when that crap look ugly with missing letters and it's noticeable. Happy i left this phone complete junk fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. I'm done with the nexus line period. Good luck fixing it Tho
I totally agree with bonebeatz , i do care about my phones but if something is not just good and solid make what can I do. If would want to sale it , I would have drop down the price.
I have nexus 7 made by asus since 2012 and it is in perfect condition so why Motorola couldn't do as good as asus or google quality control let something that cheap( I mean back cover) on market.
I spent 700 on this device and it looks like it just came out of the box. Then again, it's in a case and got a zagg shield within 2 days of my having it. I take care of it and don't toss it around like it's a toy.
there is so many good things about this phone. Maybe for the price this is the best out there if you like a smooth phone with the full potential of android. is the letters getting loose and coming off a problem? Yes. but there is no other to match this phone, dont you think.

I have a Nexus One... and this is my 3rd swap. The phone I have now has a slightly more pink tinted screen than any other one I've seen. I ordered my 3rd swap, and it just came to my door. I opened it up... only to discover this one has a one spec of dust under the screen!
Why am I being sent defective or damaged units? Should I keep doing swaps until I get one that's normal? What do you guys think?
This is my 3rd swap, so I am pretty pissed.
I can understand being picky about a product that you just shelled out $500 for. It sounds like its nagging you already and if you keep it, it will just continue to nag.
Like an itch you can't scratch.
Sounds like you need to send back until your satisfied. However, dont be surprised if HTC gives you a more difficult response each time you swap.
Hell yeah. why can't they just send me a new one or a Refurb thats FULLY TESTED. How stupid do you have to be to not a dust under the screen!? All you have to do is look...

damn i feel ur pain!
just ordered a phone to norway for my gf, hope to god nothing is wrong with it. will be a PITA to send it back etc...
*goes down on his knees and prays for an ok phone*
I'm going to keep swapping until I get one thats normal. $570 should not be wasted on a device that can't even pass DUST INSPECTION. I'm actually sending back the swap I just got, and the rep said he will send me another after that one arrives to them. Another 1 week of waiting for a phone that might also have issues.
HTC, BRING IT ON! I have 3 months of summer vacation. I will keep swapping.
I swapped five (5) TP2s on sprint, the first of which was bought new without rebates. eventually the hard keyboard just quit working entirely. every swap I got back was an obvious refurb. squishy keys, keys that didn't work, rough slider, etc.
htc has no problem collecting five hundred bucks a year or so from me, but refuses to stand behind their products. it's unfortunate, but my fault for continuing to support them. too bad the other manufacturers are so far behind for android and winmo phones..
I also did a swap for different phone because i had the dust under the screen issue. I received the replacement, but did notice 1 spec of dust under this one too. I didnt let it bother me, but maybe I should. From shelling out $530 for a phone, i guess we should expect something that should be "perfect" before leaving the factory.

One spec of dust? Seriously? Man, you're anal haha
How the hell can you see 1 spec of dust anyhow??
Anyway, get a microfiber cloth and wipe it down. You'd be surprised at how things look like they're under the screen, when they're really not.
If that doesn't help, no I don't think you should keep sending it back. As the previous person mentioned, it's like an itch you can't scratch; you'll always find something wrong. Get an Evo or Incredible if you can switch carriers. Otherwise, get a Backflip?
That one spec gets annoying.
So do you have microscopes for eyes or what?
Ok here's the test: give the phone to a friend/family member/etc and tell them, "Inspect my phone; do you see anything wrong?"
If they can get the spec of dust without you saying anything, send it back. If they can't, just enjoy man. If it gets worse, then send it back. Remember, you have 365 days to replace it!
Yea, especially in the browser, when its all white, the dust is all black. I'm just anal about a $600 device being untested during QA. I guess I'll be keeping the one with the pink screen tint instead. Might swap after though. Again.
I was very excited to buy the Nexus 4, and I think not being in the first couple of groups that managed to order the phone turned out to be a good thing. Honestly, the user feedback on this forum and elsewhere has pushed me away, especially after seeing and hearing about he back glass cracking on more than 5 occasions. Actually, 2 such incidents would be one too many. And no, I don't expect this to be solved in any future batches...
This is sad, because I am a true fan of the nexus line and stock android, and I was looking forward to 4.2, as well as always receiving the latest updates.
Well, that ship has sailed, and for now, I've gone and bought the One X+, so let's see how much I'm gonna tolerate HTC sense. I saw it as the next best android alternative, and there's no way in hell I would get a non-android phone...
Maybe if LG and Google prove my theory wrong, I'll go for the nexus 4
Use a case, problem solved
I thought of using a case, but the phone is big enough, and I always keep my phone in my pocket. Plus, when I buy a phone, I'm picky and always like to have a physically attractive phone, so I like to show that off. Even those clear cases take away from the overall physical appeal. So, the one x+ seemed like the best choice there as well.
i dont understand the point of threads like this.... do you think that we care that you are jumping ship? are you expecting sympathy or something?
theres nothing wrong with picking X phone over Y phone... get whatever phone you feel comfortable with (One X, iphone, 1990 Motorola Startac) and enjoy it. no need to let the world know of your displeasure
haha, that's a funny little post norazi... this is the nexus 4 forum, and my post was nexus 4 related, so I thought I'd share my views in hopes that google does actually pay attention. I didn't "jump ship" as you say. I'm still supporting android to the fullest, so it's still in favor of google to some extent. I never had an LG phone, so again, no jumping anything here...
This is an open discussion on the nexus 4 forum about the nexus 4, and I'm interested in knowing if others feel the same way
it's best if you don't comment on what you don't understand (as you claimed in your post)
Good luck with the One X+. We need people like you to support other companies flagship phones too, that way the competition keeps manufacturer on their feed and we benefit from the low price. If you Google actually check this forum I hope they do find this post. Maybe they can learn something and fix any current mishaps and problems from happening in the future. As for me I think i'm one of the lucky ones with an N4 without a defect. It arrive with scratches on the plastics but the phone is perfectly fine.
I'm coming from a Galaxy S variant (Vibrant) and I've got to say, the more popular a phone is, the more idiots you'll draw to the forums. And believe me, idiots are always the most vocal. That's why you've been seeing a lot of N4 hate. It's truly undeserved.
I've had the phone for a day and a half and I love it. Amazing device with enough battery to last me a full day with heavy usage (it lasted from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Tuesday, and I was playing with it the whole time). I had Gorilla Glass (first generation, not as nice as GG2) on my old phone and the screen really took a beating, and then some. But with the screen on, you won't even distinguish it from a brand new Galaxy S.
The phone has a very faint rattle if I shake it hard and out my ear up next to it... haven't noticed the rattle in any other circumstance. It's super fast, as you know. The colors aren't washed out at all. Compared to my calibrated display, it's a little warm with whites and blues are a little too cold, but that's nothing a gamma shifts won't fix. The display on my Galaxy S, in retrospect, looks positively cartoonish.
As for the durability... I haven't marred my phone and don't foresee any issues, but maybe other people are just more prone to that kind of thing.
Anyway good luck with your 1X+. I hear it's a great phone and I'm sure you'll be happy with it. The HTC community is generally pretty good since most of the idiots jumped ship and the diehard devs and fans stuck with their first love(d company).
But seriously, there are some really stupid people posting in this subforum and I really wish we Thanking posts had a negative counterpart.

People seem to think that they are in the majority of a phone's user base on these forum's. They're not.
They seem to think that because this is a Google Phone they're the only people who know about it. They're not.
We are in the minority, and it's a small one at that.
It's a fact that glass will break, it was a relatively common issue with iPhone 4 and the 4S.
Your post sounded like you expected the glass to be indestructible and then got really disappointed and bitter that it breaks just like glass will.
First of all your talking about ~5 out of how many? (a lot)
2ndly I see the same thing on any new phone release usually related to the front glass, dropping the phone is dropping the phone, end of story.
If you are one who drops your phone, then use a case. If you've never broken your screen, don't worry about it.
I've never run a case on a single of my phones, and I have yet to break one. I don't expect this to be any different. (I had the iPhone 4 as well with glass back).
If you really want a pretty looking phone that's not too big, why not just get an iPhone 5 instead? After having the nexus, that's the only phone worth buying on contact in my opinion, since the nexus is off contact and makes contact androids feel like a rip off.

Well, one thought is that with the iPhone 4/4S you can get cheap replacement back off ebay. The back for the "Nexus 4" contains only cheap antenna for NFC and wireless charging, so I'd expect backs to pop up as well.
I wish people would stop complaining about the glass back on this phone!!!!!
Its glass, if you drop it the chances are it will break SO DONT DROP IT!!!!!
If you drop phones a lot then get an otterbox or something!
I know loads of iphone users and there phones are fine because they never dropped them. Phones dont just explode ( motsly ) on their own so look after your stuff.
My best freind got a galaxy s3 and dropped it 2 days after he bought it when we was out drinking and the front screen smashed!
I didnt go around saying "oh im not getting one of those the screen smashes if you drop it and the plastic scratches".
Not long back i got mad while playing some xbox and threw my controller and it broke... shocking
Please post this on your blog instead.

I Dropped my 5 and it hit the pavement right on the corner of the phone. Half the screen is shattered. I am ashamed.
Moto G has been ordered to replace.
Goodnight sweet prince. I hardly knew yee.
EDIT: 7/30 started the Nexus 5 teardown. Looking to buy a new screen and housing combo. This will be interesting. It will either work just like it used to or I will have a broken phone. Either way I'm in the same boat.
Ouuchhh! That's sad.
Instead of buying a new device, why didn't you replace the screen?
Bummer...did you have a case? Best of luck!
Just like losing a loved one. Hang in there. The extreme sadness will come and go in waves, but you will be okay.
just buy a new screen for 120 and replace it yourself
very easy
same thing happened to me

I may still do this, but for now it's going in a drawer. I need to take some time to pry into it and make sure the frame isn't cracked. Maybe buff up the corner that's beat to heck afterwards.
I had a case but it was a slim case that really didn't protect the device beyond minor wear.
Well now you know. Take good care of Moto G. Otherwise it maybe another downgrade *wink* *wink*, jk good luck.

Well, as touchscreen, lcd, etc are fused together, the new screen you'll buy will have a new frame. Basically, you will just put your old motherboard, battery, antenna and backplate (and probably some others minor thing that I have forget ;D) and you're done.
Take a look on this screen http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HKL3DEM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 : it's pretty easy to confirm that the frame is fused with the screen

Dropped mine this morning and the back cover popped off and the back corner is scuffed up.
Put my case back on immediately. Had been going caseless for over 2 months but its nor worth replacing the device.
Good luck.

Cases are great, but why not buy an extended warranty? If u live in Canada The Source will sell you 2 year protection regardless of where u bought your phone. It is like $120 and covers water damage too. ( if your phone is way busted they won't even know that u rooted it. XD)
==Spectrys' Nexus 5==
i dropped mine on hard floor mozaic or ceramic made floor (in bathroom) and when it hit all my family outside , heard the sound !!! smash was so hard . and u know what ? it survive and body injure is hard to find ) .
i saw nexus 5 black hit the ground and what happened to it , black ones interestingly has softer body than white . but its not obvious .
white nexus 5 opposite of all opinion and even mine , has awesome tough body . mine beloved , after smash to the ground i picked it up and it just took a really tiny spot isnt it interesting ?
. interesting point is . incident spot is just under the screen side and body didn't even reached to screen so nothing happened how !!?? gap between smash spot and screen is unmeasurable but still it didint reached screen ! . im ordering a spigen to avoid such bad screen shattered .
anyway im so sry . was your nexus black version ?
Dude, can you take a photo of your Nexus 5 after the damage?
Freshly baked from my Nexus 5
Why don't you sell it? It sounds like every part other than the screen is still usable.
Very sad for you man...
My white Nexus was on top of my car didn't look twice and stepped on the gas pretty hard ... it flew unperfectly and slid almost 20 feet saw it in the rearview mirror DAMN! picked it up it was perfect!
My red one tumbled down a complete set of cement stairs last month: again picked it up it was PERFECT! (not the case with the screen protector did its job and took the hit)
SO WHATS THE TRICK? You may ask...
After months of scientifical studies and not so proven research, some expensive case and skins and a couples cosmetical and functional repairs on my N5's here are the results:
More for less...
Cheap soft TPU case and very important tempered hard glass screen protector!
Found easy breezy on eBay or if your kinda cheap and ain't afraid of Aliexpress like me:
Glass screen protector:

Cheap TPU skin:

R.I.P All the lost and dead devices , except for the apples they can rot, sorry for your N5 ... even more sorry that you had to downgrade! But Moto G seems like the better option at this pricepoint best of luck with that!
Hello.
You see, I currently have an LG G2, because I felt it was the best phone I could get at the time. But recently, after many drops, the screen finally cracked and half the touch screen doesn’t work.
I guess many of you would call it “normal”, especially if I drop it that much but, well... the thing is I hate myself for buying such a big phone, as slim as it is. Seriously, I was blinded by ALL the other cool stuff, and forgot I got kinda small hands. Even after several drops I didn’t want to believe it, but when the screen cracked, at that moment, I knew it. That phone is awesome in all senses, but the size is definitely against me.
Now, I’ve been reading about the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact a lot, since it’s practically all I will ever need, but I’m curious...
Since It’ll be released in my country at the beginning of December, should I get it? I mean, I’ve also noticed these companies got a hell of a short release cycle now, and I notice these chips it comes with have been out for a while, so... should I wait for a revolutionary Z4 Compact, or should I get the Z3 Compact now and be done with it? Once I get a phone, I’m practically married for life with them. I even barely change their ROMs because usually I get much better battery life and stability with Stock. Even for my HTC Desire I only started flashing it after year and a half.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
PS: I already bought the repair kit for the LG G2, but I will end up giving the whole thing away to a cousin, that’s why I’m looking for a new option. I never bought protector because, well, the phone would lose its slim profile.
Yes, buy one.
you need a new phone, so buy the one that appeals most and is available now. Don't get sucked into the tech waiting game, because there will always be a new and better model just around the corner.
i have to agree, do not get into the tech waiting game, waiting for the next greatest phone. i will tell you after having this phone over a very short time, i;ll give you my thoughts...
- it's slippery as any phone in the history of phones
- the battery is a beast. the only reason i really left my Moto X (13) was because i need a full 16 hours of full on use without having to run back to a hotel to charge for 30 minutes. forget what any one says, take it from me, i use this phone for work and the battery is a beast. i would be at 14% on my Moto X by 8pm, it's now 11pm and im now at 63%. a beast.
- it feels rough and smooth at the same time. it definitely feels high end.
- camera quality and the video quality (even the 4k) is well... it's fine, just fine. it's definitely above and beyond any camera i have ever had on a phone. probably the best phone-camera you can get without going iPhone.
- sony pre-installed apps are not a problem and the 75% of them can be removed. i bought mine straight from sony so, no carrier logos anywhere and no carrier bloatware.
- i got mine in black. it always looks like it's doing something even when it's sitting still.
- i miss the 'always on' of the Moto but, not a big deal.
- speakers are decent, thought they'd be a bit louder, but call quality is exceptional. exceptional. (im on ATT in a big city on the east coast). i just yanked my nano-sim out of my Moto X and dropped it right in and instant LTE.
- i love it. and i've come from multiple HTCs (Desire, Sensation), the Galaxy Nexus, the Moto X. i've been waiting years to find a reason to get a Sony phone (i really want a Nokia Android). this model is everything i wanted.
- perfect size, did not want a 5"+ screen phone.
- again, the battery is a beast.
and the only real con so far... the Sony dialer just sucks. heh, it's really bad.

It really is terrible. Every time I have to make or receive a call I cringe when I see that clunky design :crying:
Alright, just ordered the White one. I was going to go Black, but in a lot of videos you could clearly see all nudges and fingerprints.
Offtopic question: isn’t there something to avoid fingerprints and such to appear all over a surface? I’m curious as if the anti-liquids sprays that are sold these days would repel them.
no. you'll get used to always having fingerprints. that's the beauty of this phone. it's too sexy to hold...
There are sprays, but didn't read anything positive about them.
I have not used it on a phone but it stops fingerprints on
Stainless Steel and is a coating for glass.
It's called Raindance sold in Auto Stores it comes in a
Non Aerosol Spray
BUT do not spray onto phone, spray a little onto a lint free paper towel then rub on let dry buff lightly.
It's made for auto windshields, will work.
But DON'T SPRAY IT ON THE PHONE.
and close the Ports.
Put it on like a Polish.

Yeah , I have not bought the Z3 C yet either and I noticed that dialer screen is very stark and plain and.ugly...lol.
Can that be changed in Android L ?
Also on AT&T -(I would be on Metro /Tmo) are you getting text and MMS messages quickly ?
Alright, got me a White one.
Even with Wi-Fi enabled, it almost hits the two days mark. I’m trying now with just LTE all the time and Wi-Fi only for application updates and stuff like that.
Thanks everyone!
Glad you got one. I too came from an LG G2, though mine isn't broken. Well, it was stuck in a boot loop after I tried loading a custom ROM, so I got the Z3 Compact. Now that I've recovered the the G2, I'm going to sell it off.

I don't have a Z3 C .....yet
BUT I strongly suspect that the Windshield Repellant Hydrophobic coating sold at Auto Stores called
Raindance will work well.
Spray on Lint free paper towel just Damp.
Do not wet down phone with it, use tiny amount, then repeat.
Again do not put liquid on the Phone.
Put on rag lightly or paper towel, then onto glass, wipe on, let dry, then rub with clean rag or paper towel.
It repels water and fingerprints .
Damage is done. Figured I may take this "opportunity" to try another device. Obviously unlockable bootloader is required. I'll dig around on some of the other forums, but wanted to ask here if anyone has experience with the Moto X Pure or Nexus 5X? Those are the two that have peaked my interest so far. Thanks for any beta you can provide.
The Nexus will be more frequently updated than the Motorola device. However, other than the screen being an IPS LCD, the X Pure I feel is the better device all around.

Lol i was going to do the same joke
From my personal story i dropped my n6 one time doing my cardio jumping rope
Phone's screen just fall right on the floor tile... I immediately check
Camera ok, screen ok etc...
1 day after ive finally see that the top bar speaker, you know the little plastic thing, was pushed. So pushed that now the top bar speaker is nearly at the same level of the frame... And led still works
I think the ringke Max cover saved my screen and I'm loving much more my n6 and his scars.
Ps: I've by a Bluetooth headset after that
Thank you I've you read this entirely

Yeah, I need something like that. I've actually cracked the screen 3 times. All of which were during periods I had the case off. Took if off to clean and lost a couple of the buttons in the case and just hadn't gotten around to ordering one.
So anyway, I just went ahead and ordered the Moto X Pure. I'll fix the N6 and maybe sell it to get a 5x too. Thanks for the feedback.
I just dropped my nexus 6, only 1/3 of the screen is lit and there's just a bunch of lines. I don't have enough money to buy a phone with equal specs. So how hard is it to replace the digitizer?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530AZ using XDA-Developers mobile app
If you had a bad digitizer, your display would still function but touch inputs wouldn't register properly if at all. The AMOLED display is what is wrong with your device. Since digitizer and display are fused together, replacing the complete assembly is actually rather easy. However, replacement screens are not cheap. In fact, they aren't much less expensive than sending the Nexus in to Motorola and having them replace the screen for $175.
I'd like to chime in and make a suggestion.
Forearm curls.
This should help increase your grip so it won't be so easy to drop the phone.
Granted, it's an "over time solution". However, it should save some money in the long-run from lost/damaged phones.
That, or just superglue it to your palm.

It is quite easy to replace. There are plenty of video's on Youtube that show you how it works.
I bought a digitizer two month ago via Amazon. Had to release ~26 screws. Most sensitive part was to detach the connectors (very fragile!).
It went quite ok and I am now very happy with a full functional Nexus 6.
The digitizer did cost me $160,-. Quite some money, but better than a new investment in a brand new phone (A-brand).

I've repaired some phones in my time, but never in a phone that was pressed together with clips. I wasn't about to spend that money and possibly screw up. I went ahead and bought a HTC Desire Eye for $120. Maybe some day I'll fix the Nexus but no today

I broke one of these and I feel your pain. I ended up just buying another from Amazon and left the broken one in my drawer. If this other one manages to break I'll probably grab a 5x or something budget. I can't be bothered to pay $175 for the repair when Moto has awful customer support now and the phone is only worth about 200 total.
