Hey
I've used my chromecast about 10 days and it's working properly with youtube .. but it doesn't cast with other supported apps. And I can not use Backdrop or Screencast and I can not cast from pc Chrome. My chromecast's firmware is 15098 and it's not updating. However, I plugged it into wall power adapter and it's connected to internet all the time. I am in Syria and I purchased the device from France, and is Syria google play is unsupported. Does that matter??!
what should I do and is there any solution for my problem ?!
Plzz help

Hello,
Ive just got my Chromecast from Zavvi.com and got it all set up and connected to the wifi. I am ready to cast but am having some issues.
I cant get any videos or sound to come out from it
When I try to send a youtube video, it switches to that video, tells me what it is but the video doesnt play, simply displaying a black screen.
When I go to play music, it goes to tell me I am in play music but I cant hear anything.
When I go to play videos, same thing. Says I want to watch transformers - but then just displays a black screen.
I have also tried casting from my chrome tab, which works fine - but as soon as you go to youtube.com within your chrome tab and try to cast it... guess what... chromecast is aware of the film you have chosen to watch, but it doesnt actually play it.
I have it updated, devices are as follows:
Nexus 5
BT homehub 5
Acer laptop running latest chrome browser
Chromecast using latest firmware - it updated itself
The only thing it does flawlessly so far is casting from a chrome tab.

When you tab-cast from Chrome on your desktop, the video stream is being received by your computer and re-transmitted to Chromecast over your local network. But when you send a Youtube video to the Chromecast, it is trying to receive the stream directly, which fails in your case. Answer is obvious: the Chromecast does not have full access to the internet. Something in your router or network configuration is blocking it, but not blocking your computer.

I read on another forum, that UPnP and IGMP multicast is required at the router level for Chromecast to work. And that BT's new homehub 5 doesn't support this?
Is this true, would this be a likely cause?
Why would BT output a new router that didn't have functionality of old routers?
Any other ideas what might be the cause? The chromecast thinks it is online - it doesnt seem to say it isnt.

I'm trying to cast my (Tab S2 9.7) screen to my Chromecast (v2). If I use the Google Cast app it sees my Chromecast, I choose the "cast screen/audio" option then get a warning that the device is not optimised, and when I continue nothing gets cast to the Chromecast - the tablet shows a "connecting to Chromecast" message which never goes away, and the TV/Chromecast screen remains blank.
If I use the Quick Connect option on the tablet it doesn't detect the Chromecast on the list of devices.
I'm running Android 6.0.1 (stock, unrooted).
Any ideas how I can cast to my Chromecast??
Google Cast works on my T810 using stock 6.0.1, so you must have a hardware problem. I'm assuming your connection to your router is OK from both your tablet and the Chromecast device because Google Cast sees the device. But to be sure, I'd re-install the Chromecast device on your network. If that fails, do you have another tablet you can use to test it? Or have you tried another HDMI port on the TV/Monitor? Or another TV? All I can say for sure is this isn't a general problem with MM on the T810 because I use it quite often.

Mine's an SM-T815. Anyone manage to Chromecast from one of these?
The Chromecast/TV setup seems fine - can cast from my phone no problem. Are you casting using the Google Cast app or the "Quick Connect" Samsung utility?

Samsung's Quick Connect connects via Bluetooth to transfer files. Google Cast connects via your wifi network and that's what I use. There is also a way to cast without a Chromecast device but I think that only works with Samsung Smart TVs.

Eh? According to this, Quick Connect uses Bluetooth OR Wifi to connect to devices including Chromecasts:

Maybe it's supposed to, but I just tried it and the only "nearby device" it found was "Samsung Cloud Print". Even with Bluetooth turned on. It doesn't even see my Desktop Computer, though it does show in my Bluetooth connections.
edit: I just had a chat with Samsung support and they are blaming Quick Connect not working on Google. Always the other guys fault.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe your Chromecast device is an older model?

Interesting....I tried casting to an old Chromecast v1 (in another room) and it worked fine. Then I tried casting to the Chromecast v2 again, and this time it worked. I hadn't tampered with the Chromecast v2 at all. So now it's working, but I have no idea why it wasn't working before....?????
Hi Guys, sorry to butt in here, but you may be able to help me with my new Tab S2 9.7 64G Lolipop 6.0 (I think its 6.0) that I got for my 70yo mum to play movies on her Sony 46" non smart tv with either the Google Chrome Cast or MiraCast. I purchased a few micro USB to HDMI MTH?2.0 adaptors, and non of them show an image on her screen. I don't want to go and buy the Samsung adaptor as its easier to change movies play and pause using VLC media player while sitting on the couch for her. Can any of you please tell me the easiest dongle I can buy to simply play movies wireless to the HDMI dongle in the back of the tv? Happy to go Google Chrome, but which model do I need? Thanks in advance guys!

The problem with HDMI/MHL dongles is that they are difficult to connect. Most of them will work if you have the patience to keep trying until the finally connect. But then, you are forced to leave your tablet within a few feet of the TV. I MUCH prefer a Chromecast dongle that plugs into the TV and uses your wifi to connect. Most TVs also have a USB port that you can use to power the dongle rather than having to plug a separate power adapter into a wall plug. Here is one on eBay that is only $17 whereas a "Google" branded one will cost about $40. You can even get cheaper ones if you are willing to ship from China.
The current software to mirror the tablet on the TV is "Google Home". But be warned, the picture is not "widescreen" or HD.

Absolutely go for Chromecast, the easiest and most reliable way to cast from any Android device to the TV.
Do NOT buy a cheap chromecast copy from Ebay, they do not work properly.
Pretty much everywhere is selling CHROMECAST very cheap at the moment in Black Friday promo deals.
Get it now while you can as the price will go back to normal soon!
What is your location?

Chromcast sounds like the go! Im in Perth - Western Australia.
If I update the VLC media player App will it work ok with Chromecast?
Trying to set up something in my camper so that I can watch downloaded movies or shows from my phones. I have a Note 3 with android 5.0.2 and miracast seems to be broken? When the Note 3 had 4.4 it worked fine and I used a Sony dvd player that it worked with just fine. It "sees" the player but won't cast to it.
I have a Google Pixel XL that does not see the dvd player for some reason. I brought a wifi router into the camper and tried to set up a chromecast (Gen 1). I can get it set up but then neither device, when connected to same wifi, see the device so that I can cast to it. I am going to grab a Gen 2 model from home and see if this will work.
Is there a simpler way to make this work? It was so easy just using miracast and now this has turned into a massive headache.
If you have the Stock FW on the CC, please ensure, that guest mode is enabled (via Google home). In this case the CC provided an own Wifi net if needed.

I've never been able to get the guest mode to work. It seems like no matter what the chromecast still needs an actual internet connection, even if only casting a movie/picture right from device.
So far what works for me but it's annoying. I have my actual Verizon phone turned on as hotspot, Set up the chromecast to connect to hotspot. I leave it up and running. My Note 3 has my movies on it so I connect to same hotspot and cast using Allcast app...I think. That's the only app that even seems to find the chromecast. Yes I have Google Home installed on both devices. If I turn off the hotspot Chromecast stops working. Neither device finds the chromecast after that unless I turn hotspot back on. Yes guest mode is turned on. A pin is never displayed but since devices don't see it it won't help anyway.
I had a spare wifi router and did the same test. Still need an actual data connection. If no data connection the devices do not see the Chromecast.
Technology is really frustrating at times. Miracast worked just fine until Google didn't like it and made the Chromecast. The Note 3 is old and close to being dead so I am not buying a MHL adapter for it nor will I buy a new tv that has something built in that does not seems to work either. Many other camping people are starting to run into this issue as well.
if you go in Google Home under your device, Settings, there is a possibility to switch the guest mode on. This means the CC works like a hot spot. Its written also on the screen. Every device, which is not in your network, could get an access. I don't know, at which time the guest mode will be disabled automatically. Maybe at this time, if you stream something over your own network to the CC.
Hi,
I bought a cheap "MiraCast" dongle from eBay that works great. Less than $14 with shipping included from China. They list them as a "2nd Generation Chromecast 2" screen mirroring devices, a little misleading, but I'm happy with the unit, as it was brand new, in a very nice box I might add. If you need a link, then PM me, or reply here.
PS, they picture a Chromecast shape, but the lead with a Wi-Fi antenna is a giveaway. Here is a link to get you started, and actually is titled better than the one I bought, which is sold out. There are lots more like it at varying prices. https://m.ebay.com/itm/2-Digital-HD...d=202018167243&_trksid=p2349624.c100408.m2460
Motorhome option to cast from phone or tablet or TV without Wi-Fi or hotspot connecti
I was looking at a thread that discuss different connectivity options without Wi-Fi but could not figure it out. Are there any updates to this? Right now the only results that I have is to hardwire an iPhone to the TV using the HDMI connection and Apple Adapter device. The Mira cast Dongle works most of the time but is intermittent at best.
My son upgraded to an iphone so I got his old S7. Using it and the sony dvd player I can use miracast again.
I have also set up my main phone as a wifi hotspot and connected a chromecast and my S7 to it as well and been able to cast. This method ties up both devices and then they also both need to be plugged in. My wifes Iphone can also cast to the chromecast when connected to my hotspot.
Best I can come up with for now.
Hello all,
First time posting here and hoping someone can help me out. I have two google homes and a chromecast device. All are connected to the same SSID in the home. I use Plex, and often use the casting feature from plex to cast to my chromecast. Now that I have Google Home, i'd love to be able to cast music from Plex to my google homes. Now, from my phone (wireless), i can cast music without issue from Plex to google home. But, from my desktop (plugged into network), all i can see in the plex cast feature is chromecast, there are no options to cast to either Google Home. I can't figure out why my desktop can see chromecast but NOT the google homes. They are all on the same network, whether wireless or wired, they all connect back to the same switch. Can anyone provide any info here?
Thanks,
Jeff

Facing a similar problem.
My MOP can find the devices (TV), but unable to connect (via both google cast and mira cast).
Connect Google cast to your led TV then turn on cast from your phone now you will find the TV on your phone ???
Bcoz Motorola lower handset won't support casting directly we need Google cast device else for Motorola's high end devices like Moto X and Z series casting support directly...
I don't know y Motorola has not given feature in lower handsets ?
Thanks.
Yeah...! It works
