[Q] usb malfunction - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

everytime i charge my phone it says usb instead of ac, and my pc can't detect it anymore when i plug it in.
my phone is rooted and have twrp, i wonder if i can reinstall the stock firmware and see if it solves the problem, can the firmware be installed via twrp? if so, can anyone give me a link for a flashable firmware for twrp? thanks in advance.

If you going stock do it the right way and do it with Odin.only way you will know if it was a bad flash

I can't use Odin because the USB is malfunctioning, I have to reflash the stock firmware without a pc.

Guys please help me

Flash something via twrp. Download a ROM and flash.

Here you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2973447
This is just one of the many stock roms you can flash with the team win recovery.
They are in android development. You just have to scroll down to the bottom.

I have the Odin version of the stock firmware, can I also use that in twrp? Or do I need a different format?

Odin version is only for Odin. Flash a ROM in recovery and see if it works.

yeah my zip file which i used in odin doesn't work with twrp. can someone help me find a twrp version please, i will really apreciate it

And it won't. Download a Rom from the Rom section. Any Rom. Flash it then report

i can't figure out which one is for odin and which one is for twrp

The one 10K posted is for twrp:

Try safe mode and plug it in. Also try different pc.

What version of windows are you using. There has been problems with drivers on both 7 and 8.1.
Your best bet is to uninstall the drivers on your PC, and uninstall Kies. Then reinstall Kies and then connect your phone. I had the same issue on my Note 2 for a while and that fixed it .

You can't do anything. It's a hardware malfunction. Something got zapped on the motherboard and is affecting your USB port. I'm sure it can charge but not at optimum speed. 2% charge may take an hour and its not recognized on any computer. Hopefully you have a back up of your stock rom in TWRP, if not put a Stock rom onto a microsd card and install it. So you need to do a warranty claim at a tmobile store. Don't worry, they'll plug it into their troubleshooting computer and it wont detect it either. They'll do a warranty replacement due to hardware issue.

Cannot install custom kernels

Whenever I tried to install CF - Root (For JVT Firmware) or Speedmod through Odin, it installs but quickly says fail which then leads to the
Phone.....!.... Computer image. For me to fix the issue, I have to re-flash the ROM.
Is there anyway to install Kernels without having Odin to say fail?
I heard on one website that they say it may be Bootloaders that are causing the issues.

I agree on that since I try the connections on my computer and Odin doesn't pick up on COM 1 untill I plug one in a specific USB port it works....
Funny thing is, the connections I haven't had a problem for flashing either JVT through One Click Hemindall or manually on Odin but for Kernel, it always fails.
try that... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899.
You can put kernel on sdcard and flash it this way.

My phone isn't rooted. Tried to install CF - Root before but it failed.
Market, pro version, contains root...

Another question,
Could this be a simpler way to flash the root files or Kernel in?
Go to my Android 3e Recovery and flash them via SD card?
Or is CWM really neeeded to do this?
Again, mentioned by me soft contains CWM ...

Sorry, couldn't understand what you were saying in the last post.
By software you mean CF-Root or the custom kernels?
Sorry for being a noob here....
But those softwares can't be installed VIA Odin, because it pops up FAIL.

Go here, www.themythteam.com. In this website, under the main menu, go to the downloads section & select stock roms. Tap on the links of your required baseband & download. There'll be a .rar file with either single or multiple packs. Google the way to flash via odin for the case you have. Bingo..!

Are you using the correct version of Odin (v4.38 I think) for your Galaxy Ace? SGA uses a different Odin to SGS2 for example.
You can download the above version from my Dev-Host mirror site HERE
Also, ensure you're running the latest Samsung USB drivers on your PC. These are also available from my Dev-Host mirror HERE
Download the ROM from the link in this thread. It's the best stock ROM, in my opinion - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703094

I said this in the thread. If i'm wrong, please correct me.
Your kernel is f****ed up. You need to find any rooted stock kernel, flash it with Odin and then flash CWM. You don't need whole ROM, only kernel. Happened to me a lot while I was still on SGS1.
As for connection problem, perhaps clearing all drivers from your win and reinstall them could help.

It's not always a part of the official firmware package.

What if my device cant be recognised by my pc. Ive tried every pc/laptop I own with different OS. So basically I have a bootloop stuck phone with no recovery mode available and it doesnt connect to the pc. Is there any way to fix that? Or is the phone completely bricked and I cant do anything about it.
PS: I have tried installing latest samsung drivers on my pc but it still cant recognise the phone.
Have had this phone for 6 years and it was ****ing amazing. I missed this little guy and want to fix him just as a "souvenir" since it was my first ever smartphone.

I'm In A Bad Situation...

Hi guys,
So this morning I found that an AOSP-based Android 5.0 ROM was available for my S3 mini. I knew that this ROM would have several issues (no camera, GPS, 3G etc.) but I really didn't expect to get into the situation that I'm currently in...
Probably because of compatibility reasons, I can no longer access my recovery (TWRP v2.7.10). This means that I'd need to use Odin to flash a new ROM. However, when I connect my phone to the PC, it doesn't show up in Windows Explorer, and I get a message saying that the device malfunctioned, and that I should try reconnecting it (which, of course, I tried about 173 times).
So it seems that it is now impossible for me to install a new ROM.
Would any of you guys have the faintest idea of what I can do now?
Thanks
Extra Info: My phone's WiFi works, but since I don't have Gapps installed, I've only got the stock browser, which crashes about 3 seconds after I open it, so accessing the internet on my phone is practically impossible. I also don't have any file explorer installed, since I'm on completely stock Android and don't have Play Store access.

ok then you must go the "hard way":
Download the rom "I8190 серв. укр.rar" from here.
Unpack .rar and open Odin.
Select the goldenxx.pit to [PIT]
CODE_I8190XXAMA2_809600_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md 5 to [PDA]
CSC_QXE_I8190QXEAMA1_20130109.163004_REV00_user_lo w_ship.tar.md5 to [CSC]
Put your phone in download-mode and connect it to computer.
Hit [Start] when device is detected by Odin.
You will end up with a "La'Fleur" branded phone, but no worries!
Just go to download mode again and flash your choice of firmware and the custom recovery as well.
The three button combo will still work!
And one tipp at last: forget lollipop until it is stable and for daily use ...

Wiped EVERYTHING (I MEAN EVERYTHING)

My cousin thought it would be a good idea to wipe his phone via TWRP. However in doing so he wiped the entire phone ROM and all. I downloaded the latest stock rom, tried to flash via Oden and was unsuccessful. The only information I was getting is FAILED. I'm not sure if I need to download and install drivers on the phone first or if it's just bricked for good. Any help would be grateful. I'm familiar with Oden and rooting, however I've never come across something like this.
Thank you.

Question #1
If he has TWRP installed, does he have a backup you can restore? If not...
Why not flash a custom Rom from the Android Development forums for this specific device?
But back to your Odin error...
When you connect the device to your PC while Odin is open and your device is in "Download" mode, does Odin show the words "Added in the dialog window?
If Odin shows "Added then the drivers are installed into the PC and your PC and Odin are recognizing the device.
Make sure you click on "options" in Odin and un-select "Auto-Reboot".
What does Odin say at the bottom of the dialog window after you hit the Start button and the installation fails?
Sent from my SM-G955U using XDA-Developers Legacy app
He has no backup saved to restore. I'm not sure why I've not tried a custom rom, I'll see if that does the trick. When I connect the phone to the computer it does say Added in the dialog box and I have Auto Reboot un-selected.

If Odin has failed with all things looking normal, are you sure you have the exact, matching stock firmware for the device?
Odin can do funky things sometimes. Also, what version of Odin are you using? I would suggest downloading a new version of Odin and verify you have downloaded the correct firmware for the device with the correct region.
Which device are we talking about again? It's a T-Mobile Galaxy S6, correct?

Seems the first stock rom I downloaded even though it matched MD5 was faulty. I downloaded the stock rom again from a different source and was able to install everything perfectly. Thanks for the help everyone. Now I'm off to find a way to unlock.
