[Q] Moto G stuck after flash - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody. First thing first you should know that I am a noob. You will see why in the explanation of the problem. Then...
I have upgraded my moto g to lollipop via OTA (xt1032 8GB). Didn't like it so I tried to to downgrade to kitkat. Success, but I got the screen flickering problem so I was looking for a way to get back the previous bootloader. I even tried to flash to cwm recovery. And that is the point where I did the (probably) most stupidest thing. Thinking that I could flash back the stock rom, I've wiped out everything with cwm recovery. Now I'm stuck, have nothing in the moto g except the bootloader screen (41.18), I panicked and I flashed the stock recovery with the moto tool, but I think I've worsened everything. Now it's the time for laughing. Ok I deserve it. The question is: can I do something to get back my moto g? I don't care if with lollipop (I will keep it as long it works), I'm in total panic. Now even adb doesn't recognize the device.
Thanks for reading all of this. If you guys can help it would be wonderful (don't be afraid to ask something in return because I will do almost everything! ).
Greetings.
Freddy.
P.S. There are surely problems with my english. Sorry about that!

Ok found a topic (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/unbrick-method-t2794271) about how to unbrick and following the procedure. Flashed the Philz recovery with success. Now I'm following the OP procedure. In a few minutes the results...

After a few tries and a lot of strange errors that I decided to ignore I've been finally able to get kitkat back!!! Ok the screen is flickering like before but it doesn't matter. Learned a lot of thinks and discovered lot of useful tools!
Bye!

Not a good idea to downgrade a moto g and your posting in the wrong forum , you need to post in the first gen forum your posting in the 2nd gen 2014 forum. I'd redownload the stock lollipop ROM and flash using fast boot
http://www.filefactory.com/folder/c6cdedc45a775d27 find the one that corresponds to your model and carrier and country.

Thanks for the advice. In the end I've updated to lollipop because I was tired of all the "bugs" between the new bootloader and kitkat. Sadly I was unable to find a compatible version of the xposed framework, but I think I will just wait for the stable! .
Thanks again!
Freddy.

I Suppose I Just Bricked My MotoX?

Hello everyone! As most of you may know, AT&T pushed out an update today for the MotoX. A few weeks ago, I so happened to root my MotoX using PwnMyMoto. I installed the OTA update, without knowing this would **** my phone up as I had read that if you update using OTA it will just undo the root. Now my phone is in a constant boot loop. I can't do anything. By the time the phone gets loaded up and connects to WiFi or anything it reboots.
I suppose I'm screwed? Thanks.

Please ignore people who are not considerate enough to link to a post when saying "please search" as if they have actually tried using the search to find information. Because if they had, they could have easily linked you to the corresponding topic, and the discussion would have been over, or they would have found (like i did) limited results on the matter.
Here's an image that should be flashable that includes OTA (cannot revert, or root afterwards at this point)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471975
I won't claim to know alot, especially about this device, i'm mainly researching because it is my next device I'm purchasing (very soon). Right now there's not alot of information, but there should be official flashable images available for the phone floating around on XDA or some of the other forums.
I wish i could do more to help you in this situation, the last time i bricked a device (HTC Incredible) i was lucky to find an original image to restore it. This is the best method because an unrooted working phone is better than no phone at all, if that AT&T OTA image doesn't flash, my best recommendation is to look for an original motorola firmware and flash it using fastboot, i don't own the device (yet) so i don't have any specific instructions to help you with.

Teach a man to search and he will have near infinite knowledge. Give a man the answer and he will bug the **** out of you every time his brain farts. Jesus said something similar to that. Good stuff.
Lesson: XDA search sucks. Use Google to search XDA. For example use this search phrase: "moto x bootloop after update root site:forum.xda-developers.com"
Consequentially the first result is the one that would get the OP out of his infinite loop of sadness.
Dont cripple people by saying its ok to ask before searching. No one wins.

Well in this case as you said yourself, "XDA Search Sucks" even i didn't think of that (and i've been using XDA for several years now) so everyone can learn something by asking questions. (also thank you for the info because now i know a better way to search XDA)

Psshhhh...I'll give you $50, OP.
Anyway, you need to delete the update from cache. If you can't stay booted long enough to do this from the system, you may have to do it from fastboot (use the command "fastboot erase cache" without the quotes).

The rsd lite cant see my moto x i can only access it thru the fastboot but when i try the rsd way it doesnt see the phone.
Download/find the correct system.img and boot.img for your device, then push/install them via fastboot. You shouldn't need anything else. Recovery, bootloader, and other firmware should be untouched. Only issue is if it's a safestrap device, then I have no clue.

The obvious thing is make sure you have fastboot set up correctly... Drivers as well.
Make sure all drivers are installed, trust me redlite works with a soft bricked moto x, I found out today, my phone was bootlooping, nandroids failed soi wiped the sdcard and realized at that point I did the noob thing, well it worked like a charm rsdlite

i would like to thank all you guys for all the advise that was given to help me bring my moto x back to life i finally got it up and running again using the moto x toolkit it seemed like the only thing that would of work in my situation again thank yall so much :victory::victory::victory:
Who unlocks their bootloader but doesn't know what to do when stuff goes bad, like this?
If you read enough to unlock the bootloader, you should have read enough to know what to do here. Coming here frantic without even checking the eleven billion threads already is silly. We have about 12 threads about the new update and similar high number threads about restoring your phone.
Too many repetitive threads for the Moto X on xda. Some people just need to take 5 minutes and look through general or Q&A before they blindly post. Clutter everywhere.
And finally, dude! I do not have any pity for you. I'm on Verizon and cannot unlock my bootloader maybe that's why I just ranted. Nothing personal, just a general consensus of this section as of late...

[Q] Help please ! I bricked my Phone trying to root.

Hi guys,
sorry for bothering you guys, but at this point i'm pretty much desperate. I tried to root my Xperia Z since it brings oh so many wonderful possibilities with it and i was sick watching at all the bloatware floating around my screen. Anyway. Since i'm a total noob when it comes to phones i have been reading quite a lot of confusing stuff on the internet, especially here as this site was recommended to me by a friend.
Now i do have a bit of experience flashing PSPs and such, so i thought "you're not a total moron, how much more difficult could flashing your phone be ?". Guess i was wrong =)
I followed this instruction: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vs2iPY0J4ZA
Yeah, i know, it's a video and all. But the thing is. I've by now read different guides all explaining the same thing. And every one of them put things differently, most of them claiming it was totally easy, but most missed a few steps. So i thought a step by step video tutorial would be quite easy to follow. And it kinda was, until ...
The unlocking failed. At the point where it was supposed to say "unlocked successfully", nothing happened. Just the cmd-line and then "---", which from my knowledge stands for "proceeding". To me it was stuck. And it kept standing there for about half an hour, when impatiance kicked in. Yeah, im dumb like that. So i close the cmd and tried to reboot my phone and got a bootloop just after the logo.
So i went into fastboot again and basically tried to unlock it again. This time successfully only after a few seconds (i guess this is how it's supposed to be, since that's what it was like in the video.) Still bootlooping though.
Now at this point i'm frantically troubleshooting and kinda feel like a monkey with a wrench. It should work, but maybe i'm just doing it totally wrong, since i don't know better.
So at this point, from reading even more stuff i'm trying to flash a stock firmware onto that thing by using flashtool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2162907). This is the firmware i found from that thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2216743 .
Now before i make things even worse. Is there anything wrong with my approach, do i need to think about anything else ?
The idea in the first place was to install this: http://www.cyanfox-rom.com/2014/01/01/cyanfox-2-0-2/
In that regard, would that be the right thing to do now ?
If you've read this far, thank you for your time and dedication to help. I really appreciate it. If you need any more information as to what i've done, don't hesitate to ask. Chances are im lurking around desperately.
First, dont worry, your phone can be repaired with flashtool. You can download flashtool (find it on Xperia Z android development section) and download FTF firmware for your phone, 4.3 is newest. and just follow simple instructions how to flash (cant search now for the link)
If you want to use 4.3 and to be rooted you must first flash 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.2.67 firmware and then follow this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2458268
Thanks a lot. Flashing worked like a charm.
However the info still says: "Bootloader unlocking allowed=Yes". From my understanding that means it's still locked ? So it's back to square one ? Add frustration to depair now... seems like i don't understand the process or something...

It's not working. Went into fastboot again, unlocked, this time successfully in 1.0s. And again bootlooping.
What am i doing wrong ? I just don't get it. From my understanding it should work normally and i should be able to proceed to root. And this would require me to start the device normally in the first place right ? Im on here right now: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327472
But to be perfectly honest, at this point i'm guessing here. :crying:
Okay, next try, same experience. Do i need to do anything else after the unlocking ?
Do i have to reboot and just go into that root thingy and start the runme.bat ? Edit: Which isn't even possible since i can't boot.
OR do i need to flash kernel and stuff.
These are basically the 2 options that i found and i'm totally confused about which one i need to do as to me both are exclusive of the other ? I think i need to solve that bootloop issue in the first place, right ?
I think it's absolutely clear that i need help with this stuff
Hours later i'm still trying to get this working. However it just doesn't. Bootloop keeps happening.
Since i don't know if i made a mistake or not, i just chose to try to go on about the rooting. This doesn't work either. I tried to do it like in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2154310
From my understanding it's for the .350 fw,but also works for the one stock rom i downloaded earlier ? Can anyone confirm that ? I'm just guessing here, since there is no explicit information about that for noobs like me. At least i didn't find it.
Well anyway. I ran fastboot flash boot auto root blabla... and this is what it tells me:
sending boot... okay
writing boot... failed (command not allowed)
WHY ? Does this have anything to do with the unlocking process before ? Did it fail ? Am i just using the wrong fw ? Any pointers as to what i'm doing wrong here ?
I know i cannot demand any help, since you don't really get anything for it, but it really drives me crazy. So any help is highly appreciated. So please... pretty please ! Thanks in advance.

If it's root you want, you do realise you don't have to unlock your bootloader?

Xperia Z
Thanks, might try that one if everything else fails. This is still a stock rom build with all the bloatware right ?
However i am trying to get to install Cyanfox (see a few posts ago). To my understanding an unlocked bootloader and root are both required.
Just to my understanding, does that mean, that my unlocking the bootloader failed ? Or why isn't it showing an unlocked bootloader in the Config ? Sorry if i am asking dumb questions, but i seem to be stuck and i'd really like to understand what i'm doing wrong.
Tomorrow a friend of mine will try to help me with all that, since he has some experience with customs on his phone (a S3 i believe). So he told me that he has no experience with the Xperia Z. I'll also would like to show him this thread for additional info. So if there's anything you can throw at us, that might help, please go ahead. Again, i appreciate your help.
Hi, I would try and get back to stock if possible..
You might want to download Sony Update Service and connect your phone up through that. If your bootloader is unlocked, then SUS wont let you go any further but if you are locked you will be able to repair firmware back to stock...
Please dont take this the wrong way but if you are new to flashing ROMs then it might be better for you to take things one step at a time.
What I mean is start off by just getting used to rooting stock ,, then try flashing custom roms when you feel more confident with the process and after you have tried flashing a few custom ROMs to see which one you like best (there are some great ROMs for locked bootloaders out there), If you really want to unlock bootloader then go ahead...
It just seems like trying to root, flash ROM and unlock bootloader all in one hit just multiplies the likelyhood of errors occuring and it can be difficult to pinpoint at what stage it went wrong..
Good luck ...

I think that hit the nail on the spot =)
Thing is, i am a really impatient guy, which isn't the best trait when "taking it slow". It's more like "i want the best, and i want it now"
Of course what's best can't be answered objectively and i can't pinpoint why i decided on that specific rom, but it looked awesome to me, so i just went for it and tried to read up everything i need to know to make it work I just didn't expect to fail at the very first step... that's kinda very very frustrating.
Anyway, i'll see what we can get done tomorrow and make sure to report back. Again, thanks a bunch !
Sooo, aparently i made a mistake in the cmd line. We don't really know what i did wrong, since the KEY was correct, although i wrote ".exe", my friend didn't, and instead of typing it letter by letter, he copied it (i didn't know how, lol). And it worked at first try, no idea what i did wrong. So that's done.
Rooting was also easy. Sadly we couldn't go on at this point, since i had to download a few more things first. So after that, i'm on my own again and, who would have thought, next problem's not far away.
Now i do have a problem flashing roms. Every rom i tried gave me a "status 7" error. Now i already searched up a solution that includes removing a few lines in the updater-script.dat. However that didn't work either. I'm pretty sure i followed the guides exactly. But at this point i kinda have to assume, that i'm even too dumb for that.
Any suggestions ?

downloaded latest cwm via rommanager, it says v6.0.3.0
To make things simple i tried flashing the suggested stockbased rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565850)
But since i keep getting the same error with any rom i tried, i assume i'm generally doing something wrong.

The recovery is probably your problem.
Try using atleast twrp 2.6.3.0 or philz touch cwm or the latest cwm
you can use the dual recovery as well

Now to exploring all the funny roms and apps. I'm so excited
PS: Since this solved, do i need to do anything else ? I've seen "Solved" being in the title. Can i do that or do i have to ask a mod ?

[Q] Moto x No Service

Hey all,
Had my Moto X 1060xt flashed by a friend of a friend and well hes not a friend and he hasn't been friendly to my phone. Added TWRP and Flashed Dirty Unicorns to it, awesome rom, no issues however now I can't connect to my service provider, Rogers,. I don't know much about flashing and I've read in some circumstances that the radio may not be compatible with the rom. I know most are thinking well just flash it to stock. That sounds easy but now when I boot into TWRP there's no back up and nothing for recovery. I'm thinking in the process of updating my rom my partition was wiped. Am I screwed?? What can I do. I've read there are steps to doing a flash to stock recovery but I'm fearful I'll mess it up. Is there a rom to attempt to recover the radio for service. For those of you technically savvy enough to understand the dilemma what info can i share to help resolve this?
Love this site, some very smart people here but usually talk in terms I have no idea about. Any help is greatly appreciated
Wrong forum buddy. You need to go to the OG moto x (2013)
This is for the 2014 2nd gen.
I really love moto x+1.There is no competitior for this awesome phone

it is because you don't have the stock recovery image. an ota always need stock recovery otherwise it will fail or may brick your device. this thread by @KidJoe http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/ref-return-to-stock-recovery-rooted-t3027079 will help you
You guys are the Best!!!
After I get the upgrade, I assuming I'm getting lollypop, I will want to root again. I prefer stock rom and a simple root on whatever comes over my OTA today.
Whats the best way to root Lollypop/VZN once I get the update.
Never mind lol

Thanks everyone, well I got the update and it was not even Lollypop, just a kit kat update. I am starting to think the Moto X Gen 1 will never see Lollypop for us VZN users
