I updated my phone to Lollipop and now I have no mobile data, and it now always says "HOME" under the signal bars, and has an exclamation point to the right of the signal bars, I can make and receive calls however.
I have tried:
Deleting my APN and typing in a new one.
Used the "Network operators" to select a network, - it shows "HOME" and "AT&T", I have tried both, and "Choose automatically".
Removing my sim card, both rebooting with out a sim, and removing the sim and re-inserting with the phone running.
Removing my SD card, and rebooting with it removed.
Wiping the cache.
Factory reset.
Reboot in safe mode.
My boot loader is locked, no root, and I use Straight Talk.
This post lists the steps I took to update to Lollipop, as I had a Consumer Cellular version of the Moto G 2014.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59470751&postcount=114
Is there anyway to fix this without unlocking the boot loader?
If I have to unlock the boot loader, what steps would fix the problem?
Thanks.
I needed a working phone for today, and decided to unlock my bootloader and install a ROM, I decided on:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/development/rom-titan-prime-romversion-1-0-beta-t3048786
unfortunately the problem remains, so what now?
I am thinking I may have to go back to KitKat
Are you absolutely sure you have the APN right? I have an XT1064 with Consumer Cellular on AT&T's network. I'm running Titan Rom Lollipop and I was having similar problems until I fixed the APN. Also, I've never even had to look at Network Operators setting to get data.

I got it fixed today, by changing the APN, but here is the strange thing, the APN I was using on the phone when I still had the Consumer Cellular KitKat ROM was this:
http://www.straighttalkbyop.com/program.php
-----------------------------------------------
Name: straight talk
APN: tfdata
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
MMS Proxy: mms3.tracfone.com
MMS Port: 80
-----------------------------------------------
and it was working, I had mobile data and was able to send and receive texts.
But after the update to Lollipop that APN never worked again, now I am using this:
http://buzzmobile.us/configure-straight-talk-apn-settings-byop/
Name: straight talk
APN: ATT.MVNO
Server: att.mvno
MMSC: hrrp://mmmsc.cingular.com
MMS PROXY: 66.209.11.33
MMS PORT: 80
I checked with Straight Talk and the settings I am using now are the correct ones for my phone number

That's the APN I've always used. CC gave me 2 APN'S once, one for Data and one for MMS which I promptly ignored and combined both into one.

I had got the phone from eBay, and did a factory restore before I used it, and then installed my Straight Talk SIM and finished setting up the phone and replaced the "TFDATA" default APN with the Straight Talk APN, I did notice both APNs looked the same except the for name, I had believed at the time that the reason why both APNs were the same was that somehow the APN was stored on the SIM and recovered by the phone.
Yep, it looks like the APN I had to switch to seems to be almost exactly the same as Consumer Cellular's APN

My Captivate can read the SIM Card, but I can't connect to the AT&T service.
I go to Settings > Wireless & Network > Mobile Netoworks > Network Operators > And select AT&T, but it says "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network."
On Perception 9.5, When I do the same thing, It says "Unable to connect. Try again later."
I flashed other ROMs and they all do the same thing.
Help?
Are you using an AT&T sim that has a data plan enabled?

Did you flash a new rom recently? Maybe the modem isn't playing nice.
If nothing else, go get a new sim from the local store and see if that fixes it.

Yeah, I flashed multiple roms (Perception, Doc's, Darky, GingerClone...). They all do the same thing.
I guess I will just head over to AT&T and get a new SIM.
Just got my Note straight from the UK, unlocked. Been on the phone with ATT about 6 times. I can send and recieve calls, texts - but no DATA. They can't seem to figure out why it will not pick up the ATT Data Network. Sim, EIN all linked, but no joy.
I am a noob, sorry - any ideas. I hate to send the phone back.
Any ideas ?
Update - Funk2641's response below (no APN was entered) - fixed it the issue.
Still, ATT would not give me a 4G smartphone plan - even though the H+ shows up next to the clock ? Initial Speedtests look like the same as my Infuse, Atrix and 4S.
Thanks everybody (Funk2641) for your help ! I hope this thread saves some agony for many as this phone is hitting the states. Don't know if I will tread in Eurospec for the Nexus, as I will want to hold that one in my hand first.
Also, this is a great phone - speed, battery life and the screen is fantastic !

please keep posted.....I'll be on Att Friday
I will follow this thread since I will also switch from T-mobile to AT&T.
I too have the same issues. I actually used a few different apns and got edge to work poorly, I sighed and told myself ICS would fix it all up better and to just enjoy the extra battery life of 2g now, God I hope a get this cleared up

Technically, the Note is just a big SGS2. There's no reason on the phone side you should be having a problem using the Cingular APN. I'm using a ISGS2 and a UK 3G Tab 10.1 on AT&T with no problem. It's either something with the provisioning of your account or your Note may not have the right bands (Asian?). The latter is unlikely if you ordered it from the UK. Try reseting the APN to default under network settings. Also, if you're on a legit 4G plan there's a specific APN that you can find on the ASGS2 forum.
Here is another APN that works, I had the same issue
For APN settings use the name ATT and then for APN the word phone. Leave everything else blank-what is needed will get filled in automatically. Click the APN when you finish adding it and the radio button turns green to indicate it is working. The advantage to this APN setting is it gives you clear access and data speeds are not limited by ATT.
Those apns didn't work and I too a would doubt my phone bring the Asian version,.this version of gingerbread has the option to suspend my data network from holding down the power button maybe the software isn't...... I don't know I have no clue but my apns are normal but when's search they don't come up
In the list automatically so something a wrong
and I came from a hspa+ phone so my plan is already to go, I called to double check
to op, glad you got it straightened out...who did you order from and how much?

There are two different APNs to use depending on what data plan you're on. If you're using a MediaNet or Data for non-Smartphones plan (3G) you need to use the Cingular APN. If you're on a legit 4G plan you need to use the special APN for 4G phones. If you reverse it, you'll get no data. For those of you on the 4G plan, go in to the APN settings. When you press menu, there's a reset to default option. It should pull the 4G settings down automatically. If you're on a 3G plan don't do this and instead manually enter the below settings. If you do this correctly you should get data. If you have a quad-band phone and still can't get data it's something with your account settings and not the h/w.

My employer provides me with cell service and to date hasn't cared if I use the Blackberry they provide or put the AT&T SIM in a personal phone. Provided I don't hassle the phone support staff with problems I created, of course. I've used the same SIM in 3 different phones over the past year and haven't had a single issue. I just got a used Atrix HD and discovered that it uses a micro-SIM instead of a regular size. I used a template and cut it down to size (and I think I did it correctly). I put it in the AHD and the SIM is recognized as AT&T but I cannot get data service. On first use with the bone stock ROM, I got a text message and was able to reply to it. Because I have no intention of staying stock, over the past two hours I've done the following:
Rooted
Unlocked bootloader
Installed the ATT-US_BuildA ROM
Wiped that and installed CM10.1 nightly from 05/16
I've not been able to get any data service and now the status is 'In service' for Service state, 'Disconnected' for Mobile network state, and 'Unknown' for Phone Number. Even after cutting down the SIM, I can put it back in my Blackberry and voice and data work just fine. Thus I know the SIM is healthy. Questions:
Is the mini-card slot in the AHD that finicky that a mm difference in card size will dork it up?
The SIM is several years old now. Is it obsolete for the AHD (not withstanding size)?
Are there any settings in the phone that I'm overlooking? The eBay seller was in the US but I do not know the original location of the phone.
Thanks for any advice you can provide. Unfortunately, I can't take it to an AT&T store because the account is my employer's. And my employer really doesn't want to deal with my issue that only exists because they were nice and turned a blind eye to me.

Just came from the rezound, upgraded to HTC one. The phone is only a week old, all stock, the data doesn't seem to be working right. Always getting connection timeout or just sits there, arrows on top don't even light up. I've gone thru 4 gigs in less than a week and I haven't done anything. Everything is unsynced and background data is restricted. Called Verizon and got some girl who wouldn't do anything but have me take out the SIM card. Any fix or any suggestions? I can also still return the phone, I'm still under the 14 day trial.

Hi everyone, I have an AT&T Moto X that hasn't been able to send or receive multimedia messages, and the data connection doesn't work. From what I've read, I believe it's an APN issue. However, I'm hesitant to mess with the settings because it's still on a basic phone plan, with no data. When I upgraded to the X, AT&T never automatically added a data plan. If possible, I really want to keep it this way, as I have no need for data, but would like to get MMS working.
In this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2238660) post #4 says to leave APN Type set to "phone" if you don't have an LTE plan. Is this a way to make MMS work, but not data? Is there a way to do this at all? And can that be done without AT&T recognizing the smartphone and adding a data plan? Any replies are appreciated :highfive:

You mean a data connection, not plan, right? It doesn't work over wifi. From what I've read, only Sprint allows downloading MMS over wifi, not AT&T.
I have the same problem, data just all of a sudden quit working and I had an LTE connection with no problems since I got the phone in November, same APN's as you on my phone and both always worked. I now get nothing no 2G, 3G, HSPA+ or LTE. SMS and calls still work but no MMS as expected since it requires a data connection. Spent 2 hours with AT&T both online and in store trying to see if it was anything on their end. Tried every APN they could find for the MotoX, about 4 or 5 different ones they came up with, even tried a new SIM card and still nothing. I did a factory reset last night in desperation and still no data so I finally RMA'd the phone with Motorolla tech support and the new (refurbished) one should arrive tomorrow. We'll see if that fixes it.
You had to send it back? Oh wow. Please post an update when you get your new phone or get it figured out. Thanks for the response!!

Not sure if this is the issue, but AT&T's own site says that the MMSC url should be: http://mmsc.cingular.com
You may give that a shot.
Additionally, from what I understand, MMS is ONLY transmitted through either EDGE, HSPA, HSPA+, or LTE
If you don't have data at all, I'm not sure if you can even send or receive MMS.
Good Luck
Time for a very late update, in case anyone else has this issue. I did finally get my data working, using the 3G APN settings on this page: (first result when you google "att apn settings", I can't post links yet)
Now, I mentioned in my first post that I really only wanted mms, so what I did was make two new APNs - one a copy of my original, non-working APN, but with APN type changed to only "default", and I selected this one. The second APN is the settings from the link above, but with APN type changed to only "mms". So now when I have data turned on, only mms works, not any other mobile data. AT&T still hasn't recognized the smartphone on the account and thus hasn't forced me to add a data plan.
