But why so little free memory?
You must have quite a few apps. You can pick up a good bit by going to settings, storage, and clearing the cache.

2GB is for installing apps, it is not ROM. And that 8GB is spread over internal memory, apps partition, ROM partition... It is not just for storage. Yes I am sure.
so there is 2 gb for apps and 4 gb sdcard internal storage?

I have 25.4 gb on my SD card when I plug it into my computer. Is the other 6.8 gbs reserved for firmware and system? Is there anyway to repartition for max utilization of space?

6.8 is used yes. and no theres no way to utilize less unless you swap to AOSP the sense framework and everything else that goes along with it are just that big.
be lucky the GS4 is 8.5 gb used space.
Hello everyone, I'm an owner of a HTC ONE S with HBOOT 2.15 and the internal memory is partitioned in 2: 3GB for OS and application and the remaining 9 for photos, music etc ...
I wanted to know if the Moto X in 2014 was the same thing, or the 16Gb of memory are declared in a single partition, or in the second?
Thanks so much
single partition
My moto x 2014 (few weeks old) has 16gb storage but only has 10gb available for apps and media. I have a 3 GB system partition but only 1gb is used (I flashed cm12, maybe moto bloat and gapps are that big?). Rest of space is probably for kernel and cache partitions and such.

It's normal, system takes lot of memory.
If your problem with small memory is that you can't get all your apps installed, then you should search about Apps2SD

Or you can use Link2SD. Partition your SD card and link your apps to the partition to free up space.
Thats in olden days. Now things are changed, best option is to slim down the rom by removing bloatware and unusedware
Hi Folks,
i "updated" from G4 (16GB) to X4 (32GB).
Well im a bit disappointed because of the internal storage. From 32GB only about 17GB free. My old G4 was using about 4GB from 16GB. I thought maybe 8GB used... but now its nearly 16GB .
It this because of this dual partition stuff (Slot A/B)?
If i flash Lineage (works great on the G4) can I get more free space?

I have a fair amount of apps installed (72), and have noticed a lot more space than stock.
