I purchased my nexus 6 from a T-Mobile retail store and later read somewhere that T-Mobile nexus 6's come out of box network unlocked from T-Mobile. I ran a Sim card manager and its saying I'm network locked????? Here's a screen shot of what the Sim manager said.
Any truth to this ??

Mine is unlocked, I did pay my phone off before trying other carrier sim cards, which worked fine, I only tried VZW & AT&T.

OK so I can go get a att nano Sim slap it in there and it should work?? Or are there other steps I need to take.? I'm sorry I've have never swapped out or had a unlocked device. So if you could please explain what I need to do to get att working on my tmo n6.. I just want to be able to use my phone when I go to my farm out in the country. There isn't any tmo coverage out there but att does have service. I thought it would roam on att out there but it don't. I called customer care and they said att towers out there are not able to roam to my n6 for what ever reason. She said they probably will though in the near future.

Pop in the SIM and that's it. Literally. The APNs should populate on their own by inserting the SIM.
The Nexus 6 is fully unlocked. FULLY! Works on all US carriers.

I purchased a T-Mobile Nexus 6 on craigslist for use on Verizon. The phone was not carrier locked when I bought it and the seller assured me he didn't believe the phone to be locked. I do not believe your phone is SIM locked as I just ran the same program on my Nexus 6 and it says the same thing. I believe AT&T's variant is the only one with locked SIM.

Yeah, so the Sim is locked, but the phone isn't.
Used Cricket which is Att MNVO can confirm that T-Mobile bought Nexus 6 is in fact unlocked.
That being said unless Att is the only coverage you get don't go to Cricket. Ran right back to T-Mobile in less than a billing cycle.

Nexus bootloaders are always unlockable, network simlocks are possible afaik if you buy a subsidized phone.

So what your saying is since I'm still paying for my n6 through T-Mobile post pay plan that this is why my sim is network locked??? I usually just pay for half the price of the phone and jump to an upgraded phone. See this is what's confusing the heck out of me.. So once again am I going to be able to just put a activated att Sim card in my n6 and I'll be good to go.??? Orrr do I have to pay off the phone? Or do I need to get a unlock code from T-Mobile?? So confused??.the app I used Sim card manager said my Sim card is network locked do I need to unlock or do I just through a active att Sim in and go.? Thanks

I`am speaking for the European situation as it is here, i`am not familiar with the US policy`s tbh. Just put in a non T-Mobile simcard and if you are connected to data and speech there is no problem.
I have the same case as you. I tested with and AT&T Sim and works perfectly. The SIM is locked, the Phone is not.

I'm almost positive that you should be able to pop in any sim card, pre- or post-paid, and it should work...
i just tested it with a nextel chip with a plan but no data service and i still get no bars??? i will try to put up some pics....please help if ya can...thanks
As far as I know Nextel doesn't use GSM networks it has it's own iDEN network, I don't know what the difference is, or if it should work with a GSM receiver but I can't say I'm surprised it doesn't work. Also from what I've heard, the phone has only received FCC certifications on T-Mob and AT&T for the phone you have, Verizon passed separately. Again, don't know if this helps, but I'm not shocked it doesn't work. Your phone is carrier unlocked, it came that way from HTC and unlocking the bootloader has nothing to do with which carriers it will work with.
no all i did was i bought it on a tmobile network through google then i had unlock the bootloader then rooted the phone now is there a way to use differ carriers??? i did not buy it unlocked......from google.....so is there a way ?

Dude... your question is moot! The phone, even if bought on a T-mobile line, IS NOT LOCKED TO ANY SPECIFIC CARRIER! You can pop in ANY GSM SIM CARD, and it will work. I bought mine on a T-mobile upgrade... but I can throw in an AT&T, Rogers, Fido, Vodaphone, etc., SIM, and it will work just fine.
o okay will try it out with att thanks...
Well would Verizon blacklist or whitelist the I.d. number? My sis Wil buy it then activate it then just give me the phone.
Just worried about Verizon blocking it later on
A T-Mobile sold N6 will most likely not be able to work on VZW. See this thread for more details: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/cdma-carriers-buying-nexus-6-consider-t2922642
The only sure way it will work is if you already have a nano-SIM. If you currently do not have a nano-SIM, and plan on getting once you get the T-Mobile N6, that is what no one has tested yet.
But droid-life already did the test, the T-Mobile N6 worked with a Verizon nano-SIM just fine.
Best way to do this:
1. Call Verizon and order a nano-SIM over the phone. If they ask for what device, say you just ordered a Droid Turbo from eBay.
2. Upon receiving the SIM and the N6, go to verizonwireless and login. Click on 'activate a device', choose 'device that has never been on verizon', enter your current phones IMEI (not the N6), then the SIM ID off the nano-SIM you just received.. The SIM will now be active, and your current SIM in your phone will deactivate.
3. Insert the nano-SIM into the N6, and you will have a working device.
Can anyone else confirm this? I have a t mobile account and I'm planning on buying it on my line most likely ordering it because they don't have it in store and then giving it to my cousin on his verizon account.

It has been confirmed in a different thread already. The guy got the phone yesterday from T-Mobile. And it worked on his Verizon account, he is currently using it on Verizon, it has LTE and 3g and all that stuff, just like a Verizon phone would. He also tried his friends ATT SIM, and the phone worked as would a ATT phone. Its in a thread in the general section somewhere, good luck finding it.

Hi,
From what i've seen it sounds like Verizon no longer locks their LTE phones. So am I correct in believing that if I got a nexus 6 through verizon, I would be able to just plug in a t-mobile SIM and use it without issue?
Would wiping completely and flashing all the stock google images remove any verizon bloat/bootscreen?
THanks

My GF had a verizon upgrade she didn't care to use. So figured it would be nice to pay $350 vs $650. First time i've bought a phone off a carrier in like 4 years. Can't believe they charged a $40 upgrade fee. Tmobile FTW!

Thats not necessarily true some carriers still can sim lock until device is paid off or contract is complete.
Edit: AT&T did this

Yeah, I know from my ATT days. However as far as I can tell, I believe Verizon doesn't follow this tactic.
http://www.verizonwireless.com/aboutus/commitment/safety-security/device-unlocking-policy.html
Device Unlocking Policy
Postpay Device Unlocking Policy:
We do not lock most phones or tablets that are activated with our postpay service, either during or after the term of your service contract or Edge installment sales agreement.
We do not lock our 4G LTE devices, and no code is needed to program them for use with another carrier.

Be careful about this assumption. The Droid Turbo boot loader is still locked an there is no root, while the Droid Moto Maxx (International Turbo version is unlocked) . Most verizon phones can go from Carrier to carrier if they are a global phone so from that perspective they are not locked and can be used on other carriers but it doesn't guarantee the boot loader is unlocked and root is available.
Verizon
I got a Verizon Nexus 6 activated on Sprint yesterday. They just dropped the last digit of the IMEI and it activated with no issue. No SIM lock either. Store was very reluctant to try but 1 guy there had a Nexus himself and wanted to see if it worked.

by default, does the nexus 6 sold by verizon be used on other GSM network SIM cards when traveling or does one have to call verizon and have them provide an unlock code? Is there any diagnosis code I can run on my phone to check?
Thx

Can confirm. I came from a Note 4. The sim was to big so I literally sanded it down to fit. Worked perfect. Didnt have to call VZW or anything
I have an at&t version that is off lease. The phone was paid for so I kept it and basically been using it as a mini tablet on my home WiFi for the last year.. it still works fine
Is there anything I can do to make it work off a Sim card?

Take any SIM from a phone you already have active, place it in the Nexus and Viola!!!

If you want to use the phone on a carrier other than AT&T your going to need to unlock the phone first. You can request an unlock code from AT&T here.
Thanks, but I have since found it was with Sprint.
Thanks for your help. I've sense discovered it was with Sprint. You wouldn't happen to have a link for them would you? TIA

If it is on Sprint it should already be unlocked. AT&T was the only carrier to offer the Nexus 6 and therefore it was the only locked version.

That's odd. This is a Nexus 6 and it was on Sprint. It hasn't been active for over a year but the carrier still says Sprint.
Will the internal antenna allow it to work on a Tracphone (generic prepaid Verizon network) sim?

I'm not sure about it working on Tracphone but my gut feeling is that it will. The Nexus 6 worked on Verizon so that shouldn't be a problem but I'm not sure if the APN settings for Tracphone will be there or if you will have to manually create a new APN for them.

So, the phone will "remember" its last carrier until you pop in a SIM. Should work just fine.
Thanks
