Verizon phone - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

guys
by default, does the nexus 6 sold by verizon be used on other GSM network SIM cards when traveling or does one have to call verizon and have them provide an unlock code? Is there any diagnosis code I can run on my phone to check?
Thx

Just throw you're other sim in. It should work fine.

Can confirm. I came from a Note 4. The sim was to big so I literally sanded it down to fit. Worked perfect. Didnt have to call VZW or anything

Foreign sim card

Hey guys,
I was unlocking my Droid 3 (got code from Verizon) for when I go to Poland this weekend. I put in an old prepaid sim card I had from my last trip to unlock it, and somehow I have 3g etc? My verizon sim is not even in the phone. How is that possible?

Verizon does not use the SIM to their own network - the phone connects using CDMA, which doesn't use SIM cards. The SIM is used to connect using GSM networks when CDMA networks (either Verizon or one that they have a roaming agreement with) are not available, or if you change the mobile network to GSM.

That is strange...so the verizon sim in there is just for global roaming?

That's right. I think, but I'm not 100% sure, that you can store contacts there, if you wish, as well.
Stupid question, did you switch it to GSM?
hi, sorta of non related but, i'm looking to buy a D3 to use here on GSM networks, the frequencies matches those i'll be using here.
but about the unlock codes, are those sold online working, or there are still some units that no code works? i was reading thru some topics about that and i'm worried....
thanks!

Use unlock4moto.com if you do. Some are but I haven't seen many reports lately.

I just used them a couple of weeks ago and the unlock code they sent me was perfect.
I think that the only issue would be if somebody had tried to unlock successfully - if you enter an incorrect code enough times, the phone will no longer allow you to unlock. The cost at unlock4moto.com was very reasonable, though ($6 US, IIRC).

Yup, I can confirm that - unlocked mine about 1 month ago. Worked first time - now using a Verizon Droid3 in Ireland with HSPA on 3

[Q] Can Sprint Moto X be unlocked?

I have the sprint variant of the moto x and I want to know if it can be unlocked to work on other networks here in the us. I bought the phone for 350$ bucks and I'm happy with the phone I'm currently using on sprint, I just want to be able to use it on other carriers.
Mine worked with a tmobile Sim card once you unlock the book loader. I called sprint for the Sim unlock and they said I should be all set. Popped in a Sim card from a T-Mobile iPhone 5 and behold I was surprised it actually worked

How did you get them to unlock the phone for you? I just called and was told that I need to have the phone active for 90 days before they can unlock it which I think is load of bs.

Well I work for sprint do technically they can't stop me lol. But just call again and say your account has been active for X amount of years you are taking a vacation before winter to (make up some place) I would really like to use my sprint device over seas and continue to keep sprint when I come back. If they give you problems ask for the supervisor if that doesn't work there are some reputable sites that you can pay like $5 and get the unlock code

As you enter the unlock code? In other models, just insert another operator, and there is a window to enter the code. If Moto x 1056 this is not possible ...

From what I've a heard is that you can use the Sprint moto x on other US carriers but I've not been able to get my phone unlocked. They keep telling me that I need to have the phone active for 90 days and there is nothing they can do until then.

OK that worked. I do have the xt1056 model. So the only way to have the phone unlocked would be to have Sprint unlock it for me?

I got this phone in canada. I want to unlock it for the UMTS bands. is there anyway possible to unlock this device without having to call sprint. When I pop in a gsm sim card. I choose GSM/UMTS, it doesnt prompt me to enter the sim network unlock key like other androids do. is there a dial code perhaps to make the network key entry prompt pop up ? When I do *#06# in GSM mode it gives me a IMEI# and I also noticed when i choose 4G/CDMA and I do *#06# it gives me a MEID #

Activate nexus 6 on verizon

I need to know how to coach them to activate. My current device is a galaxy nexus and I don't have a phone that supports the nano sim. I know the manager he will give me a sim but how do I get the aim activated instead of this one?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
good luck. really need a phone that has nano sim or try to use nano and an adapter in your nexus but i think verizon knows what sim fits what so it might not allow that
Just got off the phone with verizon and I was told there are several types of nano sims... I told him it was the same type as the HTC One M8 (I have seen several people mention this while lurking) and he had it mailed out. Hoping it beats my device here so I don't have to go into a store. I did tell them it was a Nexus 6 and I didn't get any crap.
Fingers Crossed!
I'd suggest using the search function and seeing what you come up with
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
I've done this twice in store. They just have to find a phone that accepts a Nano Sim and activate it. First time was a Sony, second time an iPhone. No problems.

do you currently have a phone on a line with verizon? if so it wont work. the nexus imei isnt registered in vzw network
Go to a corporate store, hand them your nexus and tell them you needed a Sim only activation. They did mine in ten minutes.

Yes I do. It is my understanding that the IMEI roadblock was getting the sim not activating it. I saw people reporting that once they had a sim everything worked fine.

I can confirm this ---- I had a currently active Note 3, bought a sim cutter from Amazon for 8 bucks, cut the sim from my Note 3 down to nano size. Then, popped in the nano sim to my Nexus that had not been powered on yet. Powered the N6 on, and within about a minute my phone was active. If it doesn't work on first power-up, do a power cycle and you should be good to go.

good luck but what phone are you going to use to activate the nano sim??

question.

I have a Nexus 6 I bought from a 3rd party. Its a TMo variant so its Sim unlocked and whatnot. When I put my VZW Sim in I get LTE and such. I can't call nor send texts messages from said device. From what I get from threads on here I should request a new Sim card and stuff from VZW but if that doesn't work how would I go about fixing this issue. I mean I've already tried the whole calling the Verizon and having them elevate the case but that doesn't do anything. Eh. I mean I still have my M8 so I've been using that but it seems like this phone just doesn't want to work on VZW.
Are there any special things I should do to my phone to make it work. Or any special APNs I should use
Thanks
-ElChibo
Please could you describe your question in the thread title? Maybe something a bit more descriptive like "using Verizon sim in TMO N6 - no calls or sms"? That way you will target the people who may know the answer whilst saving people who don't the time spent on reading the thread?
Thanks for your consideration
The phone is going to be blocked via the IMEI.
I don't see it happening on Verizon. Maybe after they roll out the Nexus on their network we would know more.

This surprises me maybe Verizon has decided to stop being such douchebags.

The N6 is carrier unlocked except the AT&T version and that's easily remedied, it's got to be APN related. Try a ROM that includes all of the Verizon APN's like Chroma and see if that helps.
If you have a SIM that was already activated then there probably won't be a problem -- it should work fine in any N6 (except I hear the AT&T is network locked).

Is T-Mobile Nexus 6 unlocked?

I purchased my nexus 6 from a T-Mobile retail store and later read somewhere that T-Mobile nexus 6's come out of box network unlocked from T-Mobile. I ran a Sim card manager and its saying I'm network locked????? Here's a screen shot of what the Sim manager said.
Any truth to this ??

OK so I can go get a att nano Sim slap it in there and it should work?? Or are there other steps I need to take.? I'm sorry I've have never swapped out or had a unlocked device. So if you could please explain what I need to do to get att working on my tmo n6.. I just want to be able to use my phone when I go to my farm out in the country. There isn't any tmo coverage out there but att does have service. I thought it would roam on att out there but it don't. I called customer care and they said att towers out there are not able to roam to my n6 for what ever reason. She said they probably will though in the near future.

I purchased a T-Mobile Nexus 6 on craigslist for use on Verizon. The phone was not carrier locked when I bought it and the seller assured me he didn't believe the phone to be locked. I do not believe your phone is SIM locked as I just ran the same program on my Nexus 6 and it says the same thing. I believe AT&T's variant is the only one with locked SIM.

Yeah, so the Sim is locked, but the phone isn't.
Used Cricket which is Att MNVO can confirm that T-Mobile bought Nexus 6 is in fact unlocked.
That being said unless Att is the only coverage you get don't go to Cricket. Ran right back to T-Mobile in less than a billing cycle.

So what your saying is since I'm still paying for my n6 through T-Mobile post pay plan that this is why my sim is network locked??? I usually just pay for half the price of the phone and jump to an upgraded phone. See this is what's confusing the heck out of me..
