Hi! I rooted my tablet and i couldn't get it off so I reset my tablet. Then for some reason Asus Demo appeared. My tablet is an Asus MeMo pad 7 (ME170) I looked up this same problem on forums and someone suggested that when demo video is playing you hold back button for more than 10 seconds. I can't do that because video doesn't start up because when it does it says "Unfortunately, Asus Demo has stopped!" and then the app closes. Can I please have some help.
I have the exact same problem actually.
Unfortunately I did not find the solution yet.
If you find, let me know.
This is very annoying...
Can anybody solve this problem? I still have Asus Demo App Offline notification and its turning back first installation user interface in the menu. Also deleting automatically root apps. (Lucky Patcher, Xposed Framework etc.) I was try install KingRoot first but it didn't work. Then i try another way and i can complete the root. But now this demo app issue is continue. I think it's because of first KingRoot try. Although I have removed all the files belong to King(o)Root, I have not found a solution yet.
If anybody have the information about this, please help.
Thank you.

I'm not sure what causes the problem, but when I click on shop in the carousel launcher I get the error message "unable to launch shop".
I suspect that I might have updated the amazon shop from the google store and that this causes it.
Anyone else experience this problem?
If not, could someone please upload the stock store.
Thanks
Neve mind. I fixed it by uninstalling it in the google store, which reverted it back to the original version and everything works again.

I managed to replace the launcher in Fire OS 5.0.0. I just (sideloaded) copied the apk for smartlauncher and installed it. It was working fine, until the tablet (during use) restarted and installed 5.0.1. After the update, I had the default launcher again.
For older Kindel devices, I read, that you can block (in Lollipop it's now hide) the amazon launcher via adb.
pm list packages does not show a com.amazon.otter package, so hiding it, doesn't work. Instead I found com.amazon.firelauncher but if I hide (block) that package, a tap on the home button brings up a message from the parent control saying "The requested action is not permitted. Check Parental Controls settings and retry."
Any other ideas what I can try to replace the launcher?
Exact same issue here. Looks like the fire os update 5.0.1 locked things down a lot. You also can't give SD card write access to an app anymore as the SD card doesn't appear in the file manager that opens (eg when trying to copy a file from internal to sd card via es explorer) - but this did work on 5.0.0.
Really hoping someone manages to root this thing fairly quickly, it has awesome potential for a cheap little device but Amazon's persistence in locking stuff down is frustrating.
I've tried to set multiple launchers as default, but none of them work. You can't even "clear" the default settings for Fire Launcher. The app "Home Switcher" doesn't work either.
I think we'll have to wait until someone roots it to achieve it, as it is impossible right now.

It's extra annoying because it was possible until the day-1 update. That update prevented changing the default launcher, and prevented micro-sd storage from appearing when granting permissions to write to external storage.

Maybe Gatesjr debloater tool (here on xda) will work to disable launcher package you identified. Also, see if you have com.android.launcher. This is stock launcher on 2014 models running OS 5.
Can we overwrite the ab with the Google now launcher?
Just wondering if anyone's found a solution for this yet. I'm game for being a guines pig and trying things..

Aww, c'mon, be nice. It had been a few days and no one said anything. If anyone had an idea and was looking for people willing to brick to test because it was so cheap, I was willing to offer.
Just for the fun of it, I'm going to play with testing all the different "universal" rooting options to see if I can get around the launcher issue and I'll report back what I find.

There is also a systemui app in there somewhere. I wonder if that is related?

This discussion gives me an idea.. Could one unpack a new fire and block the OTA by disabling the update mechanism allowing for the launcher and sdcard exploit to remain?

If you connect to wifi during the initial setup it automatically does the update. At least it did it on mine.
Yeah that is what I am proposing before ever connecting to WiFi. Hmm is it worth $50 for me to find out. My initial one is already updated so no joy there.

As far as I know someone did that in one of the other threads and then used the OTG ethernet adapter. I personally am not a fan of the idea though to only be able to access the Internet via the adapter.

I'm interested in this issue. There's a thread about using ADB Shell in Fire HD to block the package amazon.device.otter to allow default installation of another launcher. I finally got ADB to accept the Fire 7 (USB driver was a big challenge) but in new version of Android Block command has been replaced by Hide command. Anyway, hiding amazon.device.otter had no effect. On the other hand, hiding com.amazon.firelauncher almost did the trick, it defaults to new launcher (in my case Nova), but then sort of freezes, citing Parental Controls. Anyway, I almost got there. Anyone else's input is appreciated.
Any way to return to the initial 5.0 OS? Damned update...

So I got this working without rooting.
I'm on the latest preview for 5.0.1 asof the time this post was written. I am not sure what I did...
I had sideloaded google play store & services and got that working for 5.0.1. From there I grabbed the google now launcher.
I hid the com.amazon.firelauncher as well as some amazon parental controls package (don't remember the name). It did give me the error about parental controls. I ended up rebooting and it went to the upgrade screen again for updating the OS. It stayed there for a while and I thought it froze so I rebooted again. It then appeared to go through the fire os install again.
Once more it started up (while plugged in to computer) and it gave me the parental controls error. However, after a few minutes the google now launcher started working. It went through some intro screen and viola. My google now launcher now comes up as default when my kindle starts.

Was it "com.amazon.parentalcontrols"??

Yes that must of been it.
The home button will not work because that parental controls dialog will pop up. To get around it I click up in the google search bar above and then hit the back button. That will cause the desktop to show. It should also show if you close all open programs.
Anyone with HBO (nordic) got their app working? I wrote them and they replied the following (translated with google):
Unfortunately, I can tell that Huawie phones do not support our app, so we can not guarantee it will work.
I have tried both resolutions, with and without the notch, both normal and forced full screen, but can't get it to work!
Hope someone can help
Hello ,
I got my subscription for HBO GO trough Telekom Romania. And for me at least it works without any special actions taken by me. Resolution set to full , the app didn't ask me for full screen view.
Hope it helps .

Maybe it's just the HBO Nordic app. Guess I'll write Huawei hoping for them to fix it. Thanks for your feedback.
You're welcome. Hope they fix it.

Got the same Phone and the same problem with the same app (Just HBO Nordic, everything else works like a charm). I've tried to reset app, uninstall/reinstall, factory reset etc, etc... Nothing works. Please keep me updated!
Try turning the Notch off and set it to standard Full Screen.. then try it...
Like the iPhone X, the Notch creates an irregular screen ratio... This happens on Netflix too...

Great suggestion, but unfortunately this didn't work for me. Tried to clear cache and data, but still no luck. Even tried reinstalling, but same result.
I am be able to use the HBO app (from Google Play market) until today... Now closed when log...
Rgs.
Try deleting Google play service cache or memory.

Possible solution
Hi. Just solved this on my Huawei P20 pro with some help from Huawei's support. You have to erase not only Google play services cache but also all its data.
Go to:
1. Settings
2. Apps and notifications
3. Apps
4. Find and choose ”Google play services"
5. Click on ”Storage”
6. Click on "manage space"
7. Click on ”clear all data"
Done!
You might have to redo this everytime you restart your phone. Huawei told me that they are working on the issue as I write this.
/Paunchygent
@paunchygent thanks. I had done this for something else, Fitbit, and noticed by mistake that it seemed that HBO was working again. Seems that the P20 have a problem with the "Google play services".
Thanks! Now I got HBO working! My weekend is saved
I had the same problem with DR TV app (the Danish equivalent to BBC) as well as the HBO Nordic app. I guess it's related to the Chromecast-feature(?). Both solved by clearing Google Play Services-data. Thanks
I keep getting 505 error. Went through all of the Google play troubleshooting. I did a factory reset and managed to download the app. Set my phone back up again. But now I got the 505 error when trying to install an update to the amazon Alexa app. Deleted the app to try a fresh install and now can't get the app at all, just like before the factory reset. I shouldn't have to factory reset a brand new handset!
Anyone got any suggestions before I talk to Amazon? I know they're probably going to suggest the same trouble shooting as Google did, but I don't want to factory reset my phone again.
This is with a dual sim p20 pro bought in the UK from 3.

Thanks dude, definitely let me know how you get on. Another dude I know who got the p20 pro from 3 was able to download the app without any issue although I don't know about updating it. I really don't wanna try trouble shooting with Amazon and they're liable to be useless.

[UK unbranded sim free P20 Pro] So far identical issue with Amazon Kindle, Music & Prime Video apps. Made the mistake of uninstalling Kindle app while trying to resolve the issue! Although Amazon app updates are failing to be applied, Amazon apps copied from other phone under Google account during installation continue to function as long as you don't uninstall them!
Having the same problem myself driving me mad Any solutions yet?
hi, you can uninstall all of the pre-installed Amazon apps, such as Amazon shopping,Amazon kindle...and then reinstall the apps in Google play store, does it work?
Uninstalling the stock installed android apps (shopping was the only one I had left) and reinstalling from the play store fixed this for me.
Yes removing all the amazon apps and re-installing worked Thanks
[Huawei P20 Pro CLT-L09 8.1.0.110 (C782)]
Confirm uninstalling ALL Amazon apps prior to individual reinstalls resolves issue. However, Prime Video install did appear to hang but showed as installed after system restart. I suspect that the apps I thought were installed by Google from my account were actually the apps pre-installed by Huawei. Not clear why all had to be removed before reinstalling though.
I am having the same issue and I am unable to uninstall them either as they are showing as system apps, how have you folks been able to uninstall and reinstall?
I can't install any Amazon apps. All give a 505 error except Amazon shopping which says my device isn't compatible. Amazon are looking into it and are awaiting a response from their developers.
Remove old amazon apps
Hi All, solution is removing one by one apps from amazon and trying installing one you want, this solution works 110%, as I tried on few phones, not just p20 pro and workes always.
Amazons Echo Dot and non-connection to Huawei p20 pro
cant get p20 pro to connect to Echo Dot, any ideas?? as cant get dot connected to wifi apart from via Amazons Alexa phone app, it just wont connect. Have tried the dot with another phone (iphone8+) and works no issues but cant get it to connect with p20 pro, HELP !!!!!
The weird thing in my phone is that most of the times that I open amazon app (the normal one) I get a msg through amazon that I have to update the app. When I click update now I then get another one that the phone is not supported. Weird stuff..

I have unfortunately uninstalled the memo app.
I have contacted Huawei support and was told that i can only get the app back if i completely reset the phone.
This is not a solution for me.
Can someone please provide me with the memo apk?
I have already searched the internet, but found nothing.
Apparently I'm the first person who uninstalled the app and wants it back.
I hope Huawei improves this, so that you can install these "system apps" later again via the AppGallery after you have deleted them.
Apple and Google do that as well.
Try this one extracted from my P40PRO Plus on 10.1
Thank you!
