Rotation broken for me - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone won't auto rotate anymore. It used to work fine yesterday, although weirdly gallery was stuck in landscape mode until I rebooted. Now the phone won't go landscape mode - gallery, videos, maps, websites, anything... Any ideas? The option is enabled for auto rotation.

Give the phone a couple of sharp whacks against the heal of your hand or a counter.

To try and reset the accelerometer somehow? I tried hitting it hard against my hand and a pillow... Didn't help...

It needs a pretty sharp whack... doubt a pillow will do it. Did you drop it prior to to this behavior showing up?

Whack it pretty hard on your thighs. That got the job done for me!

Got the solution!
Guys, if anybody is still experiencing this annoying bug, try to drop the phone from the height of 25 cm (10 inches) on his back.
I don't know how, but it works like charm

This is a great question as I ran into the same exact problem. My issue started after I downloaded the "de Blob" game which allows you to "calibrate" the sensor based on the orientation of how you want to hold the phone during accelerometer based play. After doing so my auto rotate would turn at awkward times and I found that other games didn't respond appropriately. I tried going back and "re-calibrating" by laying the phone flat but that didn't work. What ended up working for me (as I could not find for the LIFE of me where the "calibrate" feature was in the settings) the "Bubble" app which is basically a level app that tells you if a surface is level. Once I calibrated in the Bubble app, I no longer had the issue. Needles to say I no longer use the accelerometer to play "de Blob" and have emailed him to let him know of the issue. (I haven't gotten a response) Hope this helps. I will be looking forward to other ideas on how to re-calbrate the sensor in case this happens again. I'm sure there is a easier way.
yea i tried the bubble app out and now my gsensor is not working at all no matter what direction i put it in the gsensor does not respond
Really? Sorry man. Worked for me. You may need to start from scratch by wiping your phone and reflashing your ROM
The same problem
Hi are you have some solution. My G-sensor didn't respond too.

They recommend you to mahe "8" signs with your phone in hand (twist it in all direction) because the sensor recalibrates that way. This is othe official advice.
Calibrating with the bubble app should work too. If not - alt+w
I have got the G-Sensor.
From Recovery
backup
Alt+W - delete all
and update to CM last stable
No joke, try shaking your g1 around kind of hard, it might be stuck. Reset it again after that and see what happens, worth a shot.
may sound daft, but have you tried this solution?

it is a quick fix for auto rotate issues, not a permanent solution, but it may help as auto rotate is accellerometer based, as are all the apps you're trying to use
if it works, thanks go to MikeTaylor00, not me, i'm merely a messenger

Try holding the phone level in your hand, screen up, then move it in a figure 8 motion. This worked on previous phones and should hopefully help this one as well.
Try on many Roms. now on ISC and problem still appears. i'm ready to disable g-sensor. problem is really annoying. i'll make video with this "bug" shortly.
I had some issues with mine as well. I can't say it rotated on its on sitting on a table, but certainly when in my hand when it shouldn't. I wound up using Beautiful Widget's rotate sensor to rotation off. The advantage of the widget is that you can quickly turn it on if you want it.
Even with the rotation turned off with the widget, rotation still occurs when you open the keyboard, which for me, is perfect!
Thanks for the tips! I have used both methods. seems the problem is go away.

Problems with the cam / strangely turning pictures

Hey there, my girlfriends Galaxy SIII Mini's Camera causes some strange problems. When she takes a photo, you can never tell how it will be alligned. Even though she tries to compensate by turning the device, the pictures seem to be unpredictably wrong sided. Somethomes upside down, sometimes just turned by 90°. Sometimes they even look like they should! It's totally strange and even using another cam app isn't helping. The UI is even turning with the device how it should be...but you can never tell how it will turn out. She uses stock Android without root or anything and it's always up to date, as far a s samsung allows that.
Any idea what that could be?
Samsung phones do this, they're supposed to be rotated 90 degrees anti clock wise during all pictures and videos, that's why the pics turn etc. Give it a try. Quick pic compensates for the rotated images.

[Q] Weird Issue with display

So I'm having some weird issue with my Sony Xperia Z, the screen works absolutely fine, but there's this mystical dissolve(my apologies, couldn't find the right word to describe this problem).
The phone have been dropped before, but nothing happend. It have always been protected by case and tempered glass. One day I noticed the text on menu starts to blur a bit. Then few days later the same started to happen with album. And the thing is I haven't dropped it in a long time. And I have never sat on it either, so that's not the cause.
And what's is most frustrating, that the pixels tend to dissolve only when picture is in background, if its pure black or any other color nothing dissolves. And screen works perfectly in games, but when I view pictures or i open even the menu it starts to act real weird.

PS - I already tried reboot in safe mode, complete factory reset through sony companion, opened it up and reconnected everything connected to lcd and digitizer.
PSS - Today I noticed that the picture blurs on colored image, while on black&white one it is perfect, any ideas?
I am facing the same problem. Havent got a solution yet.
Dont have a perfect solution but atleast i can help you with a trick of my own.
This is going to drain your battery quicker then normal
Go to google play and download screen filter and set it b/w 30 and 34 and adjust your phones brightness to half or even more than that
Im sure you wont be satisfied but atleast it wont give you tears while looking at the screen.

Auto rotate and "pick up" options not working

Howdy,
I've had the P20 Pro for about a month and absolutely love it.
However, this morning the auto rotate and wake up when picked up functions stopped working.
I cleared cache, didn't help. I did a hard reset, still nothing. I checked the functionality of the gyroscope itself with and app called Sensors Multitool and the gyro seems to be working.
Anyone else having a problem with these functions?
*update: Noticed that the camera isn't changing from portrait to landscape, and apparently it hasn't for at least 5 days, maybe more. Not the camera, d****t!!
Stupid solution
Man that happened to me right now and it got me really worried.. After trying everything i knocked a couple of times (pretty hard) on the lower backside of the phone and it works again. Try that and good luck
