Moto g 2nd gen stuck on startup screen - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have absolutely no idea on android so need help. I have purchased a faulty Moto G (dual sim) 2nd gen and it just gets stuck on the blue moto logo screen (powered by android) for a few seconds then just switches off. I can get into the recovery screen but that's about it.
Any help would be hugely appreciated.

If you have not done anything to the phone, like trying to unlock the bootloader or things like that, then yes, just return the device, you got a bad apple.

It is repairable but if you still haven't unlocked your bootloader then you can just get repaired free of cost from the service center but if you decide to do it on your own, you'll have to void your warranty in order to do that!

If you bought the phone second hand and have no chance of getting your money back then you can follow these instructions.
https://motorola-global-portal.cust...il/a_id/99825/p/30,6720,9151/kw/factory reset
This will perform a factory reset on you phone and hopefully restore it to how it was.

Just beware that unlocking your boot loader voids your warranty.

I think you should seriously consider just doing a factory reset on your phone.

Moto g 2nd gen stuck in boot
Hi everyone,
Sorry for reviving thid thread. I have a moto g 2nd gen with unlocked bootloader status code: 3, it wont go past the boot animation with the globe and Motorola logo then shuts off, screen turns black with faint backlight and i have to press the power button to completely turns it off.
What i did so far.
I booted into recovery and made a cache and data wipe, didn't work.
I flashed a stock firmware. (5.02 btw) through fastboot with bootloader relock, all steps were successful but same result, wont go past animation boot.
I noticed when i issued bootloader lock command, log says successful but bootloader is still unlocked.
Also noticed phone is not detected by my pc except in fastboot mode.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Same Problem
Hi dichar,
I am having the same problem as you had. Did you ever get it resolved ??
If so, how?
Let me know please.

You can't root it without unlocking the boot loader, so if its rooted then that's all the evidence you need

Also, as soon as you turn on the phone, the black screen with the white Google logo comes up, on the bottom of the screen should show and unlocked padlock. That also means your bootloader is unlocked.
do you see an open padlock on the bottom of the screen while booting? then it's unlocked. also, you can boot into the bootloader, itll say unlocked. but if you already havd root, its probably unlocked, or he relocked it. if you have root, you can use an app to re unlock it.

I suggest you start with this, to learn adb fastboot and flashing.
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
If you run into the missing system.img problem here is the link to fix it:

Help with possible bricked device

Hey guys, I seem to have bricked my moto x 2013.
Long story short. I was on soak test 5.0.2. I downgraded like i've done before without issue but this time something went wrong in a big way.
My phone will not boot and just goes to bootloader with the error
downgraded security version
update gpt_main version failed
failed to hab check for gpt_backup: 0x35
CID Read failure
Invalid CID status 0x69
Customer ID error: Contact Dealer: 0xdead
The big issue is my bootloader also relocked so now I can't flash anything to fix the problems.
The comand 'fastboot oem get_unlock_data' returns no result so can't unlock it!!!!
I don't suppose there is a way to unlock it without going through the Motorola website way or entering android?
Any help appreciated. Thanks.
I think you are using the wrong command for boot loader unlock, but push come to shove you might just have to deal with lollipop, or custom roms
The commands correct. I'm not getting a reply because the Cid has change to some strange incorrect one.
I can not flash anything without boot unlock so I can't use any rom lollipop or not.
I need away to unlock the boot loader via fast boot as I can still use that just not for flashing the firmware partitions

Following the Motorola guide on their website.
fastboot oem get_unlock_data
that returns a code and you paste it into their online form.

I tried this to no avil but after reading your comment that it should fix the issue decided to try again with a different Gtp although thought the lollipop ones were all the same.
Originally I tried the one from Blur_Version.221.41.31.ghost_row.Brasil.en.BR which did not work (in hind sight realise it is because I upgraded from that) so tried the Blur_Version.221.41.38.ghost_row.Brasil.en.BR one and it flashed!
then i rettried the 4.4.4 recovery and that now flashed so went in and wiped the cache and am now waiting for the phone to finish booting.
I'll go back to the latest soak if I can and let you know if all goes well.
Thanks guys.

oh, dear it was working on 4.4.4. Tried to update to soak test and half way through the screens gone black and is unresponsive. wont turn on or reboot if i hold the power button down.
think it's definately gone this time. I'll leave it on charge and hope for the best.
it will bounce back man, possibly a corruption somewhere. IF not , reflash gpt and motoboot and redo your steps

Read that thread and then read it again...then you may understand what happened and why you should never flash an OTA or Soak Test update zip after having ever downgraded your firmware.
This is well established information now and there is no excuse for users who don't pay attention or refuse to heed the warnings!
Sorry!

Well there is a root method on the General forum in which they intentionally brick the devices then enter bootloader restore mode to root the phone.
I have no idea if it could save your device, but step 02 of the method bricks the phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/moto-x-root-pogress-60-t3071602
If you can get into bootloader restore mode, perhaps you can save your phone.

Why not flash any rom my moto x and nor it is reset with factory reset?

I have a motorola X with unlocked bootloader, but the flash another ROM, remains intact the stock ROM. So when I try with a custom recovery also remains the stock recovery.
I want flash my phone since all process stops, and sometimes off by itself.
Thanks for any help and excuse me my english.
Model: Moto X 1053 Nextel México.
I dont think that the bootloader of your phone is properly unlocked... From what i understand your post is saying that whenever you flash anything the whole mobile doesn't takes any affects... So still it must be Write Protected... AFAIK... Do this test and make sure that your Boot loader is completely unlocked...
Power off your phone
Wait for 5 Seconds
Press and hold power button and volume down button simultaneously for 4 seconds then release those buttons...
And look out for a yellow line or a any other white line saying Device Status Code
If your bootloader is properly unlocked it must say: Device is unlocked: Status Code 3
If it gives you any other status code... Then your Boot loader might be relocked thats why it must be saying bootloader unlocked on the startup by which i assume you are saying bootloader is unlocked... Checkt these out and tell us... We are always here to help others android owners..
Good luck..

Okay so i saw the screenshot.. Its properly Bootloader Unlocked..
Now the chances might be that your stock recoverry is either corrupted or damaged because your phone's factory reset is not working.. Flash the stock firmware of your phone through RSD LITE... Flash the 4.4.4 version and dont donwgrade... And after flashing the stock firmware... try flashing recovery again. Find the stock firmware of your device according to your model... find the model code at the lower back side of your phone its really tiny so you to have twist the phone to make it visible...

How to remove device unlocked screen (before logo splash)

After unlocking Z2 Plus bootloader, started to showing up on boot before logo splash:
"Your device has been unlocker and can't be trusted
To learn more, visit:
g.com/placeholder
If no key pressed:
You device will boot in 5 seconds"
Anyone knows how can I get rid of this message?
Already tried to flash factory splash.img with no success!
Thanks in advance!
there is no way you can get rid of this warning because i think it's deeply written in the kernel or your phone
I remember removing that screen on my old Moto G by flashing a custom boot image, I don't know if it's possible with this device as well, gotta do some research I guess.

I checked it this morning by connecting it to the PC and see there the state was still unlocked. Now I have locked it again to get the latest update.
Thanks
Anyone checked if there is /logo partition? That way it was possible to "hide" this message on Moto X Play (and probably other Lenovo-Motorola devices).
