I could be wrong but none of the GPe versions had the ir working, you have to download an app from the play store to use it
The Verge: But unlike last year's model, which gave up a lot of features compared to the standard One (most notably the software that made use of the One's IR blaster for controlling your TV),

install SELinuxModeChanger from Play Store, change to Permissive and IR blaster will work as always
EDIT: ignore. i thought you were talking about AOSP rooms, not GPE

The OTA updates from Motorola for the Xoom don't have facial recognition unlock. You need to install a custom rom for that currently.
I see and for that root access is required correct?

Unlocked Xoom, yes, root, not necessarily, however most of the custom rom's I know of are pre-rooted.

Facial recognition unlock/lock package can also be found in the Flashable Gapp Packages. To be honest, the facial recognition is not very secure at all. Anyone can get past it with a picture of a similiar looking person, however its a cool feature.

Nope, it's for custom roms. Think of roms as customized versions of Android that you put on your device to replace your current operating system. Then, there's GAPPS (Google Apps) which are Google's proprietary, closed-source apps that are preinstalled out of the box and aren't supposed to be freely redistributed, so when CyanogenMod used to come with them preincluded Google got all up in their face and said that to compromise they should remove the GAPPS from being preinstalled on roms, hence why there's flashable GAPPS packages with the latest versions of all these apps. When you replace the OS/flash a rom and/or install certain zip packages it's called flashing. The reason Google removed front-facing camera unlocking features from the Xoom are unknown, but for Nexus S's, the phone before the Galaxy Nexus, it was removed due to inferior front-facing cameras that made it not work as well. I have a hypothesis as to why it was removed from our Xooms, and here's some of my ideas:
1. The camera is inferior.
2. This feature was built specifically around the Galaxy Nexus and isn't even that accurate onit so they didn't want to add it to other devices before completely fixing it.
3. Like Flipboard and the GSIII, they only want to support this feature on 1 phone until it's had all bugs completely worked out.

Perhaps you might be right. But to a certain extent it seems that the facial recognition is more of a pre conceived gimmick more so then a actual functioning utility. I'm a fan of tech obviously, but somethings aren't executed very well.

What will 4.2.2 change?

Anyone know what it adds to sense 5 and android 4.1.2 what's the difference?

Google.
What Mr. Durden means is there will be more of it.
More Google.

Hopefully it will fix the distorted Bluetooth issue I'm having.
I'm guessing it will add quick reply from notifications as on AOSP ROMs, unless HTC screws it, somehow.

i thought quick reply for messaging was a CM feature?
I'm wondering if perhaps we can expect to see a system dump from the "Google Edition" release, or perhaps an unofficial release of the STABLE CM 10.1; seeing as how the Sprint variant of the HTC One, received a nightly, as of yesterday.
I'm just hopeful that we'll have a more fully-functional version of Android 4.2.2.

Maybe for messaging, but Notification actions in general:
Expandable, actionable notifications.
Android has always put you in control when it comes to staying notified and connected. Just swipe down from the top of the screen to see all your notifications in one place. Late for a meeting or missed a call? Take action in an instant directly from the notifications shade.

Some of these don't apply, and some have been implemented by HTC already, but anyway for reference.

Ya seems to me to be pointless to buy the nexus experience One if you are a current owner and can just flash a "dump"
I just don't know if I can do without Zoe and the IR blaster. I have tortured so many peeps with the IR blaster and the TV/cable box at their houses or hotels it has been priceless!!!

Though I doubt the Google version of the one will have Zoe, I imagine it will use the ir blaster. I don't think they're changing anything physically on the phone so itd be a little odd if they didn't include that functionality.

Well apparently it isn't going to add any lock screen widgets. Fail.

I never really cared for LS widgets on AOSP. But if you really want, you will be able to delete the HTC lockscreen and use the AOSP one that has the widgets. So it's not like they are completely gone.

That is indeed a very good point. Would be pretty easy to fix up too.

"TV" like app.

Hey guys. Unlike many posts I've read, I actually love the TV app that comes stock with the One and its one of the many things that really make me reconsider rooting & using different ROMs. I love having the IR blaster and I think its one of the many things that makes this phone unique. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good app that is similar to the TV app that I could find in the play store (or elsewhere) that I could use without stock. Thanks!

Smart ir remote is the best one i tried. Here you can see a review:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...es-wet-dream-but-it-comes-at-a-premium-price/
The IR blaster will not work currently with AOSP roms though correct? Only Sense based ones IIRC.
The IR blaster will only work on Sense ROMs and 4.3 Google Edition ROMs. AOSP and 4.2.2 Google Edition don't have the drivers for the IR blaster.
I also like the TV app and would like to see if it could get ported to a GE 4.3 ROM. I tried moving the TV apk and IR blaster apk to the GE ROM but the app kept force closing

Sense TV app for Google edition

I've searched. Has anyone got the sense TV app to work on a G.E rom. It's the only thing I feel that bothers me when on G.E rom. I always go to grab my phone to use as a remote and search what's in the.v but can't. Any help appreciated

Try Smart Remote from the Play Store.
Had the same problem, found ZappIR HTC One, its in the play store, works on my GE 4.2/4.3 ROM with no problem. I control a few Vizio's and my Samsung.

ok will check out zapp ir
I keep seeing threads like this where someone asks about. Sense TV app and is directed to some ir app. There are plenty of ir apps but the HTC TV app is THE best TV app out there combining ir blaster and TV Guide better than even the peel app that is based off of. Would really love to have it on ge. Anyone have any ideas?

Replacement camera app.

I'm using the latest GPE rom and wanted a recommendation from the community on another camera app that has video recording capability. I've tried the LG camera from play store but video is choppy, maybe it's my settings? Anyways, any recommendations would be helpful. Tia

Honestly, I'm really liking the Google Camera, it's not a huge app but it has all the essentials and works great with the M7.
