Could be interesting, but I doubt it'll have an SD card slot, so I'll probably pass because of that. Unless phones start coming with 64-128GB+ of storage, SD cards will be necessary. I don't consider USB OTG thumb drives, the Cloud, WiFi Drives, etc as good mobile storage solutions. Kind of a pain in the ass to put an OTG drive into a phone, put all that into my pocket, and do anything requiring movement and not risk breaking the USB port on either the phone or the OTG drive.
A good example -- I was going to get the new Nexus 7, but its nothing more than a 1080p Moto X Tablet (spec wise). Decided instead on the Asus MeMO 7 HD. For $70 cheaper I can get the same amount of Rom Storage, an SD slot, good enough hardware, 720p. Probably gonna get that next Friday . Point is, I'd be willing to pay $70 more for an SD card slot...instead I'll spend that $70 on a bluetooth keyboard and mouse (or a protective case...) for the tablet. I don't see the need for 1080p on a 7" screen, so I don't consider that as a loss.

I don't think Google has ever released a Nexus device with SD Card support since the original Nexus One.
I agree with you though. SD Card Support is a must for me too. However, I like the way the Moto X is. Low specs sure, but everything seems to work the way it should. I dont think the Nexus would have the same specs as the Moto X, it should have good hardware to support atleast 2-3 years of updates.

Spec wise, X is all you really need in a phone. If it had an SD card I'd seriously consider it.
Nexus 5 will probably be a quad core X with updated components. 32-64GB internal storage. No SD.
I'd like to see the manufactures take a different route with the phones. Make 3 models -- small (Defy), medium (AHD), large (Note2) with the same hardware other than screen size. Only buttons need to be power and volume; ports needed are hdmi, mini usb, sd card(s). For users that want keyboards, better camera, random special hardware, the phones will have removable backs that can be replaced with hardware addons. Imagine being at work so you attach the slide out keyboard module, get off work and attach the 78mp camera module, for playing games you can attach the controller module. If a manufacturer did that, made it Android, & unlocked the boot loader we'd all get that phone. It would be a nightmare for cases/otterboxes, but having a choice in screen sizes and interchangeable hardware modules would make up for that -- just imagine being able to buy an extended battery + slide-out keyboard all-in-one module.

I believe Sony is actually doing something to that idea, they have a wi-fi camera module that will link to your phone and use your phone as the view finder. Granted its not the same, but the idea is similar. I'd be happy with just removable battery and micro SD and micro HDMI (I really dont see why they started this MHL BS.)
But I am looking at getting a new phone this winter, if this Moto-Nexus pans out it may be the way I go. I was leaning twoards an Xperia Z.

The spiritual successor to the Nexus 6 will come in the form of ‘Bullhead’, another piscine-coded device. The Huawei-built product will feature a 5.7-inch display, likely a QHD panel, along with a Snapdragon 810 chip and a 3,500mAh battery.

thats just rumors at the moment, no one but google knows for sure. considering that its about 5 months before release.. anyways, i dont play the rumor game, come to me with factual details and ill give you an answer.
Probably not. I upgraded from my nexus 5 early due to issues and wanting a bigger screen.
If they go with 5.7" I bet it's so they can get their hands on more Samsung panels.
For me, it will be between the LG G4 (current top contender) and one of the next two Nexus phones being released this year.
I like my Nexus 6 but it's just too big for me. I always figured I'd get used to it but after 6 months, it's still obnoxious to use on a daily basis. So I'm happy to see that the biggest new one is rumored to be 5.7" and I wouldn't mine dropping back down to the 5.2" version.
If the new Nexus phones look like good contenders, I'll hold out for their release in November/December. But if they don't appeal to me anymore than the G4 currently does, I'll be picking up the G4 in early June.
The reason why the G4 looks so appealing to me is that I had a short stint with the LG G3 after the Nexus 5 and before the Nexus 6. I always regret switching from the G3 to the Nexus 6. The increased size was one thing but the quality of pictures that the G3 took were SIGNIFICANTLY better than the pictures my Nexus 6 takes. That's one thing I'm really looking forward to with the G4.
If Verizon picks up the next nexus, you bet I'll be getting it. If not I'd probably be getting the next HTC one device.
Bump
I probably would although I honestly wouldn't want to downgrade in screen size. A finger print scanner, USB C are pretty compelling. I just hope they keep front facing speakers a standard.
It depends. Which one will Verizon get and how long compared to other carriers. I would not want to go below 5.7" for screen size.

At the moment this is all speculation. Hopefully camera quality is improved. I'm tired of the crap Google keeps pulling out. I've had every single nexus phone.
Nope, will go 2 years on the N6 and then decide. To be honest, the only things that are really going to change in the next two years are screen size/density, amount of RAM, battery.
The N6 will likely hold me for that period, I haven't yet even modded it (OC, etc.)
It is *incredibly* unlikely that the next Nexus device(s?) will be running SD 808/810. Much more likely would be 820 and related with the new Kryo core.
At this point I'd have to say no. I'm not sure what they could add that would make me move. Fingerprint is nice. Larger battery is nice. USB c is nice but I doubt I'd ever want to take away juice from my phone to charge other devices but the feature is nice to have. With huawei making the phone possibly, I'd hate to lose the okay Google wake feature. It doesn't seem that the new flagship's are adding this feature in.
I'll probably be keeping the N6 and may buy a backup device in case I don't like any of the future offerings.
I wish current devices were upgradeable like how PC's are

Ehrm... you know that you can *already* power other devices from a Nexus, right? Same for probably any other Android phone currently on the market. Its part of the USB OTG specification. If you get an *unpowered* OTG cable, it will literally power the peripheral device off the phone. I once powered a 2.5 inch spinning hard disk from my Samsung Relay.
What USB-c does, is change the specification around a bit on account of the more... generic cable that you will then use. Basically, the USB-c cable has two of the same end, which means that the mechanism used to detect the OTG cable (certain resistance between ID and GRD pins) is no longer *possible*. What this means, is that the two devices have to somehow negotiate which one (if either) powers the other.
So imagine a situation where you plug two phones into each other using a symmetric USB-c cable. Which one provides power? Which one draws power? Either?
Whereas with the older style cable, the OTG cable gave the instruction to THAT phone that it would be the power PROVIDER (except for powered OTG cable...), and the peripheral cable in the other device would be recognized as a power SOURCE.

I'm looking at upgrading my current device and have been eyeing the nexus 6 on that amazon sale for a little while now. I just want to ask for some opinions. is this device still worth a buy, or should I look at waiting for the new nexus devices (the 5x really doesn't interest me a whole lot, but maybe I'm missing something there) or should I get the moto x pure edition over the nexus 6? Thank you for any thoughts on the matter.

As a purchaser of 2 of these over the past month let me be the first to say buy this now. For the price they are talking now you can't find a better deal anywhere. This device is still better than half of the newer devices out. Go for it brah! You won't be disappointed.

I would get the Moto X Pure. It's slightly smaller than the Nexus 6, $400, and has a micro SD slot.

I just realized if you build it from the regular Moto X with 64 GB of storage, it's $100 cheaper than if you go to the Moto X Pure page. Weird.

Since the N6 I do not use my N7 anymore, and hardly the PC.
Because rooting is easy and also customizing with the help of dev's here I choose the N6.
Some minor points:
- Magnet sensor can't be switched of;
- slippery; a (hard) case is need for better grip
- back is not flat, that's not handy when using qi-pad.

The Moto X that is $100 cheaper, is last year's model, the Moto X 2014. The Pure is the 2015 model, which is why it is more expensive.
Just got mine for 300€ - can't think of anything better at that rate. Predecessor was a Oneplus One, also cheap but total crap displaywise.

In the rom Cyanide-L you can shut off the magnet. Under display there are smart cover options that you can shut off.... I use it because I slipped some metal plates under the battery cover for my magnetic car mount and don't want it to shut off.

I have a magnetic car mount too.
About the rom. I am hesitating.
The coming update of Android M is using RRO/layers. CM has a different theme engine.
BTW I solved the 'magnet screen off issue' with an ultra thin case. With superglue I mounted a metal plate about 1cm below the M-logo at the back of the N6.
I'd say the N6. I had the Moto X 2015 which was about $450 with tax. I returned it and got the N6 brand new shipped for $300. Yes newer phones have newer stuff on them. But with that said the newer stuff is basically just a slightly faster CPU, and that is pretty much it. The N6 is a year old yet spec wise its still one of the faster and best phones you can get and at the current price its a no brainier...
Looking to upgrade from my Moto X (2013, Gen 1) to the Motorola Droid Turbo (VZW).
my primary reason is for the better battery. my moto X no longer lasts all day despite all my efforts (root, greenify, etc).
I looked at the Turbo 2, but that device was too big - looking for a reasonably smaller device.
so I'm curious to see how the battery as fared thus far for y'all (understood that different usages bring about different results).
also, I believe I read that this turbo has the Moto voice app (you can speak and the device responds even when locked)?
any other thoughts/recommendations?
thanks!

I love my Turbo. The battery life is great. I can get the advertised 48 hours with low usage. Even when I don't get 48 hours, the quick charge feature totally makes up for it. I plug it in to the charger before I take a shower in the morning with the phone at 15-20%, and by the time I'm ready to leave for work it's at around 70-80%. The phone is super fast and powerful. Everything I do with it is buttery smooth. I haven't used Moto Voice, but I think it does do what you described. The other Moto features work really well. All of this, combined with the unlockable bootloader, makes this phone absoutely perfect in my opinion. If I could go back in time to when the Turbo came out, and all of the 2016 flagships were available to me, I'd still buy the Turbo.
The Turbo 2 is not only bigger, but it has a lower capacity battery. It also contains a CPU that is notorious for overheating. Unless you really need an SD card slot or an "unbreakable" plastic screen, I would stay far away from it.
I got mine in the mail (bought used - like new) on 12/30/15... unlocked the BL and rooted it and I am liking it so far. I came from a Samsung S6 Edge, and I wasnt really liking it. Ive always had Moto phones since they were dumb phones (RAZR, KRZR, etc), and smart phones... the OG Driod, Droid 3, RAZR MAXX HD. So far this is running nicely, and as TheSt33v said... the turbo charge is awesome. _Plan on keeping it till next year this time and seeing whats available at that time to upgrade to. Was thinking Turbo 2, but I wasnt aware of the issues TheSt33v mentioned so I may have to rethink that, although I liek the idea of an SD card slot.
thanks for the quick feedback.
I plan on rooting the device and then would prefer to stick with a stock ROM and custom kernel (as well as installing xposed). i did not see a custom debloated stock ROM out there.
Is there a custom kernel for stock?
i see there are few different methods to root/unlock bootloader - looking at one thread, I presume that the preferred method is via sunshine app (unlocks and roots all in one shot)? then flash TWRP via fastboot?
I've been enjoying my Turbo every day since I purchased it in November 2015.
For starters, the battery is a champ. I could easily see it lasting the advertised 48 hours if your usage is light. My usage, however, is moderate to heavy (4-6 hours of screen-on time, much of which consists of web browsing) - yet the Turbo still makes it through the day without needing a mid-day charge. On lighter-weight usage days, I have finished with around 70% of the battery left.
Secondly, the specs are more than reasonable. Even with the stock ROM, this thing has handled almost everything I've thrown at it with aplomb. Typical usage never feels sluggish. Gaming might not do quite as well, though, as the 1440p screen is a lot for the 2014 GPU to draw on. (Most games I've played run well enough.) Screen casting/recording also causes some frame drops here and there, but as long as you're not doing anything super-intensive, it's more than tolerable.
The phone does feel a little big - but then, I keep it in a case, and my last (daily-driver) phone was the comparatively tiny Droid RAZR M, which I'm still more used to. One-handed use is sometimes a little tricky, but not intolerable.
About my only regret on this phone is that it has no microSD slot. I purchased the 32 GB model (it was all Verizon had on hand when I made the purchase), so keeping TWRP backups and a decent selection of music on the internal storage constrains things a bit. If you're all-in with cloud storage and have good data service everywhere you usually go, it's not as big a deal (and you can always use OTG USB flash drives), but it's worth noting.
(Another quirk is that the Turbo has only one cellular radio, so if you're in a phone call that's not VoLTE, you cannot use mobile data until the call ends. This has affected me exactly once so far and hasn't been an issue since; but I feel that that, too, is worth mentioning.)
tl;dr I really like my Turbo, despite some quirks. By all means get one!

Yep, sunshine is the way to go. Not really sure there is another way for perm root. Follow the directions in the thread and it was easy as pie. Installed TWRP via flashify, and just a little bit ago installed xposed.. Im not sure I want to venture off the stock rom, but would like to be able to lower the voltage for better battery and debloat, tho debloating I can do with Titanium.
To the best of my knowledge, all quarks can run the same roms, so if theres one for say the Moto MAXX, they should also work... tho I would make sure before doing it.
great stuff!
i'm looking at buying used on e-bay and swappa. most do NOT come with the "turbo" charger. do I need this, or will my moto cables suffice? I'm guessing that the "turbo" charger enables the fast charging, but I've read that the OEM charger is best for the device.

Im using my Samsung Edge charger at home, and just bought another quick charger for work (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017XLNEZ6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s02) that seems to be working pretty well. I would think the regular charger would take forever with this big battery, tho i havent really done any testing.
I've had it for a few days now and I love it. I can't put it down. My friends think I hate them! =) I was hell bent on a phone with a swappable battery and an SD card but I gave this a shot and the battery is great. The storage is more than enough for my offline gplay music, vr apps, and games! I still have 9gb after downloading about 20 albums installing tons of vr apps. Installing Asphalt 8, Modern combat 5, Dungeon hunter 5, and other big games. I am running cm12.1 just to avoid accidentally or impulsively taking an ota. It's been perfectly stable for me to. My biggest complaint is that it's slippery and small. People say it's big but I feel it could be bigger. I have trouble holding on to it. Maybe my hands aren't that small just a little feminine looking. Lol. I have huge feminine hands. =P

Agreed on the feel/size. I got one with the nylon ballistic, and really enjoy the grip. It's not as sturdy as having a case, but I enjoy a slimmer profile. So far, so good for me - but still on stock (rooted though).

Hey guys.. recently I sold my Oneplus Two after using it for 1 year and bought new LG G4. But I bought it thinking I can enjoy entirely new things. But unfortunately I lost my enthusiasm. I didn't love the phone for many reason. 1. Battery life is very low. 2. No unlock bootloader. 3. No root for Marshmallow. 4. Phone heats up very quick. And many cons too. Now I'm planning to downgrade to phone with good specs and not too high end. So I thought of choosing Nexus 6. What do you guys think ? Is it a right choice to buy used one with 203 dollar ? ...

Yea planned to buy... Do you Think used one with 32gb at 203 dollar is worth ?

Just this month I had an option to upgrade to a new phone. I chose buying a used Nexus 6 instead. I could not be happier. It has what I always try and make phones, stock android. There is still tons of developing going on. I don't even care that it is an older phone. I had the LG G3.
We can't answer that. Only you can. Nexus like you said yourself is considered old, however many of us would not consider the phones out now a considerable upgrade.

You need to ask yourself whether 32GB is going to be enough storage for your needs. The Nexus phones don't have expandable storage.

sure it does.. just not via sdcard.
I don't know about you, but in the OP's situation I wouldn't want to have to play around with a dongle sitting in my USB port simply to increase my storage space. Using a USB OTG device is inconvenient except in certain use cases, such as at home backing up a device with TWRP. USB OTG may be expandable storage, but it's simply not optimal. Thus the OP still needs to ask himself whether 32GB is enough.
I don't think 32GB is enough, not without being ruthless in your space management. I know you'll probably disagree, but I'm willing to lay odds that as an owner of a 32GB model you're pretty ruthless in your space management. Owners of 64GB devices have the luxury of not having to be so ruthless, and I really think it adds to the enjoyment of the device.

I don't use otg, but it is an option in expandable storage.. you said there aren't any options. I have a 32gb n6. I bought it in nov, 2014. anyways, 32gb is more than enough for me. and I mod my device, nearly daily. and have 2 3.5gb+ nandroid back ups in my storage. before n6, I always had 16gb. now 32gb is spacious for me. also, I'm an amateur photographer that only uses the n6 for photography. what I don't do is keep music on my device, that's what seems to save me. I use google play music services, and I always have that to use. when I take a subway home from work, I'll download several albums to listen to, beforehand. BTW, on tmobile, unlimited high speed data, in NYC
I forgot about USB OTG as an option. I stand corrected on that.
Like I said, you're ruthless in your space management, where I don't have to be. That however doesn't mean I'm not. If I were to put my stuff on your device, it would all fit with about a gigabyte left. Having used devices with far less storage, space management became an art form with me. But on this device, not worrying about how much space I'm using is liberating, and it's that liberating feeling that makes using this device more enjoyable.

ruthless, I'd never say that in this case. over time, I do end up deleting a lot though.
Had the G4 last year. Decided to sell it after a few months due to the subpar battery life. I do miss the camera and brighter screen, however, I prefer the N6 for the bigger screen, much better battery life, wireless charging and Project Fi. $200 for a used N6 is still a good price.

Of course you could shunt what you delete to cloud storage. But the fact you have to pick and choose what to keep on your phone only proves correct what some sites, for example Android Authority, are saying now about devices with 32GB storage: it's really too small these days, so the OP really needs to think this through. Currently Swappa has 64GB models for a low of $280. $200 is an excellent deal for a 32GB device, depending on condition. But is the price worth the potential inconvenience the smaller amount of storage may impose?
