[Q] Usb cables are not fitting in my phone. - Moto X Q&A

The original charger cable for my phone got stolen and I've been having issues finding cables to fit in my phone, all the micro usb cables I have tried seem like they are too small for it and will not stay in my phone. Is anyone else having these issues are have any ideas on how to fix it.
Thank you in advanced

Sounds like the USB port is worn out. MicroUSB cables are all the same size, so they can't really be too small.

I find its critical how I put a cable in. I think the connector may be on the 'big' end of the spec, so a plug can go in, overriding the tab with the connections.
Also, some plugs work better then others. Maybe try a different cable?

with a little searching I figured out my issue to anyone else having these problems, take a wooden toothpick and clean out your usb port. I cleaned tons of lint out of it and now it works great

Charging fault?

For a few days my phone hasn't been charging, and at first I thought it was a problem with the battery, but having bought a new one I've realised that when I tilted the charger to the left it would charge, but when it's just left it wouldn't, so I guess a bit of a miss-alignment.
Anyone got any ideas how I can fix this problem?
Cheers, nathaniel
try another cable and make sure it's the one that came with the phone. you should have a usb one and a ac adapter. if both are like that then you need to warranty it out.
Yeah, Ive tried it with the USB cable and the charger, I got the same result. Is there no quick fix, I'm going abroad in 9 days and quite need my phone...
There are a few discussions on bad USB connectors in these forums -- searching might provide some things to try.
From what I can remember, it's possible the pins in the connector (on the phone side) might be bent out of place -- you might want to inspect them with a magnifying glass and try to carefully bend them back if any seem out of place.
It's also possible that the connector itself is broken -- in which case you're looking at a service call.
this seems like the problem i faced. i was also facing the same problem and i read the forums here and found it as a usb port issue. so i slightly bent the usb port so that the contacts are aligned and then it started charging
Hey I would also recommend trying a new a new charger again because I have had my share of faulty chargers. Last time I had a problem charging was with a brand new cable that did not work right at the box from At&T and thought it was my battery until i tried another charger that worked. I would suggest trying the charger that is not working on another phone and see if its actually the charger or if it is your phone that is not working.

I think it is to do with the pins in the connector.
I had a search but I'm not very good on forums and I can't find anything of any use. Does anyone have a link?
Just look at the last few pages of topics, you should find something... there are threads about broken USB at least once a week.
One common conclusion is to avoid using USB cables other than the supplied one as their
plugs are a little thicker and tend to deform the phone's plug over time (I admit I always use others though, and as a result do sometimes need to wiggle the cable a tad and not move anything anymore once the connection is established... ).
I once dismounted my Hermes and tightened the plug back a bit, it helped, I've never done it with my Kaiser yet though. If you're not used to dismantling and fixing devices I'd recommend returning it for repair indeed.
I had a the opposite happen, it would charge but no data connection with my pc. If you look at your extUSB port on your phone, see if the black plastic tab is cracked (which was my case) or if the pins are shifted. whatever the issue, its obviously hardware related, take it to an At&t service center tell them whats wrong and if your in warranty they'll change it on the spot.

He got the same result using his USB cable so that would rule out the charger.

Im in England, took it to the T-Mobile shop, the service was rubish and without even looking at it they send I should send it off which would take 2 weeks. There is a crack in the black plastic tab

Flimsy MicroUSB Connection

I was surprised to see that, upon trying to charge the Nook Color for the first time, that the microUSB connector is very brittle to say the least. I was having a hard time even getting the nook end of the cable to be fully connected, because I was afraid I might break something. It eventually would go in with a violent SNAP sound, but it was still scary.
The next time I needed to transfer some files/charge, I tried one of my generic monoprice microUSB cables and didn't have the same issues. The connection was made with no fuss, and everything works the same. This may seem like an obvious thing to do, but, in case there's someone out there that hasn't tried a different cable and had the same concerns as me, it's a better route.
A regular microUSB cable doesn't have the power connectors on both sides (or something to that effect). I read a B&N support post over on their forums and someone mentioned trying another microUSB cable. Support warned they would only get a trickle charge without the actual Nook USB charger.
Had the same problem, almost like fishing around with the stock nook cable to get it to seat. My motorola works a little better, but still seems like a quality issue with the alignment of the micro USB on the bottom of my nook.
I think the nook wall to USB charger is 2 amp which is more then the standard 1 amp chargers that most phones and devices come with.
Does the stock cable have additional connections to light up the status light at the tip? A slow charge is better than possible snapping something off the Nook itself in my opinion.
No, the secondary power lines on the connector aren't just to light the status light though I'm sure that's part of the power draw. It'll just take you twice as long to charge. If you're an overnight charger, that might be alright for you.
I see. I also just checked the the ac adapter. It puts out 1.9A--way more than a standard USB charger. Maybe that has somethng to do with the special cable as well.

I also had some quality issue with the default cable. Changed the cable and it was fixed.
Mine was bought around Christmas, have they fixed that issue with the latest versions?
Don't think so, because I bought mine earlier this week. However, the USB connection with the factory cable seems to have been magically fixed. I have to be really careful, but the B&N cable fits better now. Strange.

[SOLVED] USB Charging/discharging Issue

Recently I had this issue and god's thanks i was solved it (thank you google you too).
Symptoms:
Suddenly my phone was not able to detect that it was connected to the wall charger or USB cable to a PC, also yes charged if it was off or rebooted with the cable conected, but was never recognized as a storage device.
Believing that it was a brand new firmware bug try prinmero check permissions and then flashing it with a newer version, but none of this resolved, so I decided to google a bit and there I discovered that I had this probelma many people with various phones and that the service technician always gave the same excuses, overall the team had been wet and had to change or FLEX cable or connector microUSB. Some home made repair also I found include welding a resistance in the USB connector pins FLEX Cable. Too nasty for me but i starting playing with te idea..
All this things smells very strange to, it was not possible that so many phones of different brands have the same issue. I continue reading until lukily I found many people talking about this solution, and it's works for me.
Solution:
Look at the bottom of your phone and note that you male usb port is bended down (screen side up)
1.Remove the battery.
2.Use a pin/flat wire cutter to clean the usb port, also try(very gently) to push the tongue of the usb port upwards (towards the screen.) Do it carefully and try to let it in an horizontal position
Problem Solved!
I hope this info will be usefull to anyone, see you in space

[Q] Connecting Moto X to Computer Issue

So, every time I connect my Moto X to my Windows Laptop via USB, it always keeps plugging and unplugging itself as if I was doing it. The phone icon appears and it begins to try and load the memory storage and then it just vanishes and "unplugs itself". As of now, I just unplug the USB cable from one slot of the laptop and then insert it in another, and it fixes the issue.
Now, that doesn't work either. What's the problem and how can I fix it?
Chances are it's one of a few things.
Bad cable. Bad ports on laptop. Or the port on your phone.
I'd start with some different cables.
Then try a different pc.
If it's the phone, then that's a problem. The phone ports are fragile. My daughters Gtab3 has a wonky port, cause I'm sure the plastic tab was snapped by her using the tablet while it's plugged in. So now to charge it, it will only work sitting still on whatever and I have to jiggle the cable to get it just right. It's only help by the wires inside now.

I repaired the Moto X Device Manager and now I'm using a different cable. So far. so good. I'll report back in a few days to see if anything changes.

Micro USB port problems

I have a problem regarding the micro USB port on my Nexus 6.
My phone seems to be "breaking" micro USB cables. I am currently on my 6th wire in just 2 months, the previous 4 months I had no issues with the stock cable.
USB cables seem to have a very snug fit, and I believe the problem happens when I am pulling the cable out of my phone (requiring some force). The broken cables have a much looser fit and will not charge the device unless positioned in a certain way or not at all. The two small pins on the micro USB plug seem to be sticking out much less than on a brand new cable (as if my Nexus 6 is somehow damaging this pins and ruining cables after just a few uses).
Does anyone have this issue?
I have attached pictures of a NEW and OLD cables so you can see what my phone is doing to the small prongs/pins.
