I have been having the issue where Google talk looses connection to the server repeatedly. I have to go back to the main gtalk screen to get it log back. I had this problem on Cog 4.5.3 and continuing on CM7, which I flashed today (nightly 181). This seems to be the only issue. I have search around the forum and the interwebz and have yet to find any actual solution to this problem. Any help from the XDA crew would be greatly appreciated!
I am using an Atrix 4g, CherryPi build, and this same problem recently started for me over this past weekend. Before that, it was working fine, but for some reason, it now loses connection to gtalk everytime I back out of the app. Hopefully someone can find a solution.
I'm having this issue since Friday December 2nd.
Everything works fine over Wi-Fi but when I'm connected to AT&T 3G network the Google Services keep loosing connection and then reconnect.
It is not only Google Talk, it is all Google Services including Google Voice and GMail - now I get my messages late and sometimes I have to manually refresh to get new messages.
It is happening on my phone that runs CM7.1 and my wife's phone that runs CM6 and never been updated since December last year.
No settings were changed on either phone but both of them started having this problem last Friday.
I spend half an hour on the phone with AT&T technical support but they were useless and just said they have opened a case and will investigate.
Moreover, sometimes Gmail over IMAP was not available ("cannot connect to server") and Chase bank app could not connect to Chase server either
The problem still exists today for the 4th day.
Again, everything works 100% perfect over my home wi-fi connection, so there is clearly no phone or ROM problem.
Are you guys all on AT&T network or are you with other carriers and countries?
I am going to an AT&T store today to test a phone on display.
BTW, my phone is Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S), rooted, running CM7.1
I personally believe that AT&T is having problem with their APN.
My brother has SGSII and he is using a different APN that is only available to customers that have newer "4G" (HSDPA+) phones.
When he switched to "wap.cingular" he had the same issue in GTalk.
But he has no problem with Google Services using AT&T's new APN:
APN: phone
instead of "wap.cingular"
But this is only available to HSDPA+ customers. I cannot switch to this APN.
I'm with you guys. I noticed today that I would lose my data connection when using many different Google services. Talk, GMail, and YouTube all cause my to lose my data connection (bars go grey from the normal blue, meaning I can make calls and do SMS, but I have no data connection).
Google Talk:
As long as I am on the main screen, I am connected and can see who is online and offline. As soon as I click on a person's name, I start to lose my connection. Occasionally I can get a message out before I lose my data connection, most of the time I can't.
GMail:
Messages come in on a LONG delay over mobile data, and when I am in the GMail application, I lose my data connection.
YouTube: The app loads, I can search for videos, I can even choose videos, but they will never load. I lose my data connection until I back out of Youtube.
All of this works just fine over Wifi.
Anyone have any additional information for us? When I noticed the problem, nothing had changed on my phone for weeks (I'm running Atrix CM7 nightly 20, which was released back before Thanksgiving). Tonight I did a full wipe in fastboot and reinstalled everything from scratch, and I have the same problem.
DK
P.S. I am on AT&T in Massachusetts.
Here is what I did as a temporary workaround.
I gave AT&T my brother's SGS II IMEI and told them that this is my new phone.
After the new IMEI was posted to my profile the data plan code has changed from SMT2GB to HSSMT2GBH
This way I have gained access to AT&T's new gateway (APN: phone).
With this gateway I have a stable connection to Google Services and the GTalk works perfectly, no jumping in and out.
The only problem is that I tried so many options but I could not setup the access point for MMS.
I don't usually use MMS anyway, so no big deal to me.
I consider it as a temporary workaround, hoping that AT&T is going to fix their wap.cingular anytime soon. It's been 4 days so far. And every technical support rep I spoke to says that he/she never heard about this problem before and this was their first time ...

Full wipe (or clear data, clear cash, etc.) won't help here, this is clearly AT&T's problem. But I was about to do the same before I found out that my wife's phone acts exactly the same way. This saved me from setting up my phone from scratch
P.S. I have visited an AT&T Retail Location today and tested a few 3G phones they have on display - same problem detected.

OK, guys. The problem is gone this morning.
I have a stable connection to all Google Services through "wap.cingular" APN.

Ha, if I had found this thread yesterday it would have saved me several ROM installs. Oops
AT&T
Just a little update, if anyone would read this thread.
In February-March AT&T had the same problem with wap.cingular again and other APN had no problem.
Googel used to sing in and out all the time and quite a few websites were not loading at all giving me a message "page cannot be found"
Speaking to an AT&T rep was useless as always.
The first guy told me AT&T cannot guarantee 100% access to the internet at all times and there is nothing they could do about it.
Second guy called me a few times, he even tested a phone (or at least he said so) and did not find any problem. Then he called me back again and wanted me to do a factory reset. I told him I'm not doing it, peroid. My wife's phone does the same this and so does my old LG Incite with STOCK windows 6.1. I also told him that I'm not using their AT&T stock bloatware, since I told him that he started to push to the point that my problem was with unsupported OS and this was not AT&T's problem. I told him that I pay AT&T for SERVICE and not for the phone support and repeated that the other two devices have the same problem. I told him I'm not an average lamer-user, therefore he can't give me all that BS. He had nothing to reply but only promise to call me back WHICH NEVER HAPPEND.
Yes, he never called me back.
But next day the problem was gone. Maybe they found the problem and he was embarassed to call me back? Maybe the problem was gone by itself like it started. I don't know.
But it's all OK now since then.
Last week I flashed ICS 4.0.4 and now the phone is even faster and only better!

Would be very appreciated if anyone wants to weigh in with advice:
My friend has the XT1053 (I have the XT1058 AT&T), I pressed him to get the Moto X, his will be one year old next month and he's having 2 issues. His XT1053 is completely stock 4.4.4, locked bootloader, unrooted, using AT&T's service.
Have spoken to tier 2 tech support at Motorola, like me and probably anyone else, they have never heard of the first issue:
When he has wifi toggled on, but not connected to anything, it makes a strange interference when he's on a call (kind of like a reverberation in a tunnel sound), as soon as he toggles off wifi it stops, seems to only be when using his bluetooth headset (not the headset, have tried a couple of them). Cleared the cache and tried in safe mode in case it was 3rd party apps, as suggested by tech support, neither solved it. He's reluctant to do a factory reset, but I told him I'll help him back up his stuff.
The 2nd issue just started a couple of days ago:
In driving mode, if an announcement comes in "new text from..." it makes a tone at the end and is "stuck" repeating the tone very fast, like a record skipping, screen isn't frozen, but the audio file playing is (maybe that audio file got corrupted?) I cleared the data for the assist app on his phone, but it still does it. I get the feeling tech support won't know which audio file it is, or where to find that file.
I know the factory reset is likely the best thing to try first (and if it fails, downloading and reinstalling the firmware maybe?) wish it was evident if it was a hardware or software issue re: the first issue -the issue with assist sounds more software I think, though both seem peculiar, especially the first issue, with the wifi, the issue with the assist, maybe the audio file is corrupted? Not sure which file it is, I guess it's the one that follows: "New text from... to hear it, say listen", so I guess it's the tone it makes when listening. If tech support doesn't have a good suggestion, I'll press him to do a factory reset
Thanks in advance for any input, his phone is still under warranty until sometime in February
The second issue just started on my girlfriend's moto x yesterday. Apparently after Google got updated along with a few other things. Her phone is completely stock as well. I'm thinking they messed up the update on one of the apps but I'm searching here now trying to fix it for her. She relies on that feature a lot when driving around.

Surprised no one else has mentioned having the issue. I wonder if related to the update of Google search -though that was like a week ago? -unless it took time for it to start to happen

You're right. I recently fixed that same issue after that app was updated.
Rolling that back to a previous version, fixed the issues with moto assist for me. Look under apps in settings and uninstall updates to revert to the factory version. The version previous to this update is 3.6.16.1614640. (com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox-1)
FYI, if you check the app page for the google search app and filter the results to current version and moto x, you'll see complaints about it breaking moto assist.
As for your first issue, I would recommend a factory reset as you mentioned, but maybe someone else had this problem and can better assist you.
If a factory reset doesn't solve the problem, you could use tasker or similar and force wifi off when bluetooth is connected (and back on when disconnected). Getting a free new phone through warranty is always a nice option though.

Thanks true, it is still under warranty, though they said they only have refurbished models if he exchanges, as it's no longer made -I guess they don't have inventory of 1st gen Moto X anymore?

Yeah, I know motomaker for the 1st gen ended awhile ago. No idea if they have anymore new, non-custom stock on hand. A few months ago, when I exchanged mine (cross-shipped), the rep told me that the paperwork would say refurbished, but that it would be new. And it was new although this was for the developer edition. I guess your issue isn't really worth the hassle for a refurb.
Recently, my phone has been acting strange. Last week it worked fine and its been ok for a year, until this past Saturday. I was sitting next the the g/f and I wanted to show her something, so I called her to test it. My number showed up as Unavailable. So I called a few other people, and same thing. After scouring thru my settings, and seeing everything enabled that should be, I went to a local ATT Authorized reseller. We swapped out sims, and I placed a test call to him. Instead of Unavailable, it showed up on his caller ID as +1. At a loss, I figured maybe a corporate store would have better knowledge then a reseller.
Today I went to the ATT store, and explained the issue, and they swapped out the sim again. Same issue, showed up as a +1 on his line. He checked my account, nothing out of the ordinary, and everything was how it was supposed to be.
Anyone else have this issue, and if so, how did you fix it? I am rooted but the only modification I have is a custom recovery.
Dialer --> Menu --> Settings --> Calls --> Additional Settings --> Caller ID. Change it to "show number".

Did you try having them give you another sim card and activate that? Sounds like it could be somethign with your system and/or the sim and not your phone itself.

I am going to do the March update once I can get the dang MD5s to match and probably factory reset (oh how I dread that) lol. But thank you everyone for the replies!
Just to kick this back up incase anyone else ever runs into the same issue. After almost 2 months of having this issue, it finally started getting to me. I recently got a Ford Fusion, and one of the features of the car is the ability to upload remote diagnostics that I can view later. The issue with this is, I had to register my number with Ford, and when I tried to call out, I would always get a "please check the number and dial again" message.
Then it happened again with Sirius. I tried 5 different numbers their online chat provided me with, and same message was played. Now it was starting to frustrate me since it seems these companies will not accept calls from Unknown Callers, and the 3 visits I took to the corporate stores proved to be a waste of time.
I was on the phone with ATT support and the guy I spoke with for 2 hours about this issue escalated my ticket and the next day I got a call back. It appears I was right in my assumption
As many know AT&T hasnt enable the Nexus 6 for HD Voice, which is required for Numbersync. When I got the Urbane 2nd edition first run, I was under the impression I could use it when it was available (numbersync that is). So when I heard it was, I went to my account and tried to activate it. Even though a message popped up saying my device (The Nexus) was not HD voice compatible, it still made changes to my account on their end, which completely botched my outbound caller ID. After he switched a few things and corrected my account, all is well again..
My rooted Nexus 6 and my sons stock Nexus 6 are having a lot of trouble connecting to LTE on Tmobile. I have to go to APNs, reset to default and reboot every hour or so. I did no changes to my phone.
Apparently, this is happening on other networks too.
Can anyone shed light on this? Some back door google update.

flash a different radio/modem.
Same here. Just spoke to T-MOBILE and rep said it is an issue with a lot Nexus 6 users. They kicked me off the network and it work for a bit but I'm still losing data. She said their tech department is working with Google for a fix.
Fyi...Flash 3 other radio's and it doesn't make a difference.
Edit: change all to a lot

I got the same answer.
I did flash the 5.32 and 5.34 modems. No dice.
Then I tried Developer preview 5.39. It's been working for 15 minutes, which is a long time since the issue cropped up.
What a pain!
Not sure if my issue is the same, but for the last couple days Textra fails to send a text unless I reboot. Even a reply to a just received text fails. I have tried a couple different radios but neither has helped. I am also on a T-Mobile Nexus 6 stock rooted with the August 6.0.1 security update.

That is probably the same issue. I can receive texts, but can't send without a reboot.
So far.. the 5.39 developer modem has kept connection for an hour. Which is good considering how intermittent it was.
What really blows is that my phone and service was perfect until this event.
Even in the mountains of the Philippines last year, my phone worked perfect.
You may try dp5 my WiFi and Mobil got a lot better, but I'm not on t mobil. Flashing only the radio is maybe not enough, if you are on stock anyway you have nothing to loose
Check out Reddit for the growing thread on this issue. Happening with Nexus 6 users on different carriers around the world. Some GPS connected apps like Pokemon Go & Lyft will bork LTE connectivity. Probably a Google play services issue. Will be using my OnePlus one today just in case.

I'm running stock N6, not rooted; bootloader locked; on T-Mo. While on WiFi, with WiFi calling enabled, I would get out of range of WiFi and cel data would not return without full reboot. If I disable WiFi calling before leaving WiFi service, cel data flipped as normal. I tested again with manual WiFi disable and if WiFi calling was on before the cut out, cel data never flipped on.
[Edit] I did notice though that when it does flip like it's supposed to, I'm connected at 3G. LTE doesn't kick on.

what radio can work on 5.1
Cause i have flyme rom, but have calls issue, ian not receiving any call. The other end saids it rings but my phone does not ring at all on calls.
It seems to be affecting some people, but not others. It also doesn't seem to be related to ROM, carrier, kernel, or radio versions. There are people all over the world on different carriers having the problem.
The symptoms I see are that I can't connect to any type of cellular data. Voice and SMS seem to work though. WiFi data works fine. GPS use seems to make it more likely to fail. Speedtest.net, Pokemon Go, Ingress, and Google Maps have been used to reproduce it.
The only thing I've found that seems to help is to freeze "Google Connectivity Services" using Titanium Backup. You might also try uninstalling updates, though it will just re-install. If it is related to that, it would make sense as the rollout of updates via Play Store are staged, so people would get the update at different times. I froze it about 4 hours ago and data has been solid with GPS use, LTE and HSPA tested. I also tested switching between WiFi and Cellular without issues on Tmobile-US. That's the only SIM I have, so I can't test other services. I couldn't seem to get a data connection for more than a few minutes before, so it's a huge improvement in my case.

T-Mobile acknowledges the issue. The one universal is that it's with the N6, not with other phones. There are a bunch of carriers around the world that are having the problem.
When mine breaks, SMS fails. The only mobile connectivity available to me is phone calls.
The Reddit thread mentioned above has people saying that disabling Location Services works. Far from ideal over time, but if it's true, it's something. I tried that. We'll see how it goes. Freezing Google Connectivity Services is nice, if it works without introducing other problems, because it would allow us to keep using whatever connectivity we like without data breaking.
I had a Bluetooth connectivity problem a year or more ago that surfaced literally out of nowhere and on every device I tested, a little more than ten of them. This was independent of ROM, root status, device, anything. The feature in question worked on every Android device we had tried one day (and for more than a year prior) and failed on every one the next. Sounds crazy, but it's what happened. Google barely paid attention to my bug reports and ran me in circles when they did. Never got fixed.
I trust this matter will.
Both my nexus6s are doing this with heavy GPS aps, data will shut down.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I've had GCS frozen for a long time, running 5.39 radio & it happened to me. There is definitely something occurring substantially with our devices/network be it software or hardware based. Apparently T-Mobile & Google are working on it but the fix might not come until next week. I'll probably install latest N preview when I get home.
Hi, I get the annoying message "Open channel for BIP" from time to time. I can relate it to the second SIM-card. After I put it in, the messaging starts. Can I switch that off somehow?

Thanks, but already found that as well. It's a bit old and not a solution. Here a summary of what was found out there:
What is BIP:
Barrier Independent Protocol, relative new high speed channel for moving data between a BIP server and a storage device (like the SD card in a phone).
Someone meant it could have something to do with a SD card. There is no in the phone, the SD-Slot is used for the second SIM.
Another one updated the phone. Didn't help me.
App bugs? Don't think so. The messaging start when inserting the second SIM-card and stops after removing. No Apps installed or changed during that process.
The last person change his SIM-card then, and the messaging stopped for him.
So the main question remains: what ist that BIP about and what does it have to do with that SIM-card and can I stop it somehow?
I already changed the SIM-card. Now it's a new one but the same provider.
The other SIM doesn't make any problems, it's another provider. But the provider might not be the problem. When I exchange the place of each SIM the problem still exists. Does it have something to do with the combined SD-/SIM-card-slot?
Any ideas?

The other SIM doesn't make any problems, it's another provider. But the provider might not be the problem. When I exchange the place of each SIM the problem still exists. Does it have something to do with the combined SD-/SIM-card-slot?
Any ideas?

Some users said updating fixed the issue, but if nothing there worked on yours then I would honestly just try a factory reset to rule out other potential factors. It might still be related to an app that triggers something when 2nd sim is inserted, not sure... Are you on latest stock firmware, or rooted on custom roms?

OK, that's quite weird. I've absolutely no clue how, but it seems to be fixed. Without factory reset. No root, no custom rom. Latest firmware, so there was no option to update anything.
What have I done now:
I tried to figure out several combinations with both or one SIM-card in different slot-combinations. I wanted to know if it could have anything to do with the provider or the SIM-card-mount. Between I restarted and reinserted the SIM-Card mount several times. Then somehow the messaging stopped. Till now (about 24h) it's best behaved
So I'm sorry that I've opened an new thread, because it's quite close to the result of that one:

Hope this will help other having that problem...

Goad you managed to get it sorted out, and thanks for posting back to close the loop
OK, it started again. Now installed Norton Antivirus and it found no virus but apps with unusual/unexpected behavior. It was one for my electronic scale (yolanda-app) and one for voice recording. Deinstalled both and the message was gone. Hopefully forever now...
I have no idea about anything y'all are discussing. However I just opened, turned on and connect to my hotspot, my second Samsung Galaxy J7crown in 2 months and I am getting same pop up. Try to search for answer and I get opinions, cause Google and assistant absolutely suck now on any actual FACT finding anymore. Did anyone figure this out yet? Google won't. I'm sure it's another thing they DON'T want you to know about. Frustrated....
I have to agree. I just recently got a j7 crown and am experiencing this same message from time to time. I just came here looking for answers but have found nothing. Hope it's nothing serious
I had this message only once, when I went to Japan then switched SIM card.
I have had the same issue all day today. I've had this phone since November and have randomly seen this pop up but never like it has today. I went to settings, about phone and clicked update and it has fixed it so far. It has only been 20 minutes but hoping it doesn't happen anymore. I never thought something would annoy and anger me the way that did lol!
I've had the same Galaxy J7 crown with StraightTalk service, since Feb 2019. I've never removed neither my SD nor SIM card. I only hey the BIP message briefly at bottom of screen every time I turn my phone on (like from being turned off completely, not just the screen).
It's not a nueseance to me, I am just wondering what exactly it means.
Any answers? In layman's terms? Thanks!
Duh!..
They are watching you. Isnt it odd that there is no definitive answer????
