Hey Gang
Just purchased the N4 this evening, and would like to introduce myself
I've had the LG Optimus 2x since it's release, and thought I'd move on as it's become quite dated (and who doesn't love a new device )
Coming from the o2x, I'd like to know if the N4 works the same? (Being LG hardware and all), do we have nvflash and smartflash available? Is it completely unbrickable (as the O2X), and any tips and tricks regarding the device itself ?
Also, anything I should be aware of? Anything to keep an extra eye out for when using the device etc. Am currently looking for a flip case but haven't found any that I liked, any recommendations?
I just realized it uses micro-SIM and I only own a normal SIM, considering cutting it manually (don't have a printer either), the "data" square just needs to be within the boundries, yeah?
Anyhoo, looking forward to poking around the dev. forum! Looks like it's quite active
Have a continued nice evening!
Kind Regards
Neefy

No Nvflash as Bootloader isnt locked as bad as LG phones. A simple
"fastboot oem unlock". I like to keep things simple.

would unlock the bootloader.
It doesnt brick easily unless you flash the wrong Rom,Kernel, ETC.

Haha!
Is there any difference between the "Android Dev" forum and the "Original Android Dev" forum?
The following are most likely “Original Development”:
-Official releases of highly original and upstream custom ROMs (built from the ground up with significant original development within them
-Official releases/development of such original ROMs, perhaps posted by the maintainer or their nominated person.
-A significant “first” in development for a device. Significant is subjective, but it is likely something which took considerable time/effort, and is generally accepted by developers to be significant and non-trivial.
- Kernels which are built with beneficial changes that are not simply pulled from other kernels already available. Some element of original work is expected.
-Tools and utilities with a clear purpose, and which are well-made, and useful to users. They should have an element of originality, either in purpose or through significant improvement in the means of operation.
-Significant port of a ROM from one device to another, giving enhanced features or functionality to users of the target device. The port should be beneficial (a port from two virtually identical devices isn’t original development, it’s winzipping, and nobody really benefits from this, as it’s not development)
The following are most likely not “Original Development”, and should be posted in the “Android Development” subforum:
-Your own “unofficial” stock build of your favourite original, source-built (or otherwise) ROM, particularly where an official or maintainer-endorsed thread exists already.
-Minor derivatives of other ROMs with little or no changes, or ROMs consisting of “placebo” features as a main constituent or claim.
-Renames or rebadges of others’ work – these don’t belong on XDA at all! Refer to rule 12 for more information.
-Reposts of existing ROMs with small changes (i.e. kitchen work, such as adding a couple of apps). If you could realistically distribute your changes as an “addon pack” above and beyond a ROM, you should do so. In addition, your “ROM” would not be original development as it would be substantially identical to the original ROM.
-A thread created with unrealistic goals that are clearly unachievable by those starting the thread. This is not intended to discourage high aspirations, rather to prevent threads porting Windows Phone 8 to the HTC Wallaby. This is pretty much common sense.
-A ROM where a main or significant claim/feature is graphical changes to the user interface (ie. Themed ROM)
Congrats on your newly acquired device and welcome aboard!

I didn't realize we don't have removable battery until now, what do I do if I'm stuck?

Oh man! A fellow G2x/O2x user! Welcome to the club man.
All you need is fastboot.
Welcome! Enjoy the N4! I know I am!
More O2x users! I was also an o2x owner haha, great step up from that phone and I am HAPPY with this N4 I really cant fault it apart from battery life as I seem to experience less than the O2x and other people on this forum but I am still very happy with it.
Speed is incredible! Not unkillable like our O2x and it has a glass back that is obviously more prone to breaking if dropped but its pretty much the same. It is a larger device but I still like it ,
The display doesnt best the O2x out of the box, colours are washed out however after calibrating the display I would say it has better colour reproduction than the O2x and looks much sharper. Recommend flashing PA rom as my experience is great with this rom, that is my own preference mind.
Have a look for a guide on cutting down the sim, I just printed a template out and cut my sim down to size easy peesy,
Lot of g2x/o2x guys migrated to the n4 lol, I too had a g2x. I loved that phone too lol it was damn sexy when it came out

I too am a fellow G2X user. Just received my Nexus 4 as well. Love it and the dev community
Lol, I was a g2x user as well. Along with my Nexus S.
Glass broke on my g2x which lead me to this device.

Haha so many o2x users!
It's nice to see so many of the o2x devs over here, I'm running pa with Franco kernel, how do I recalibrate?
I really like the device, it looks very nice and I enjoy the upgrade in screen size and playing around with the on screen buttons is fun
I read that some kernels have touch sensitivity fixes in them, which ones could you guys recommend?
Thanks for all the info and have a continued nice day!

You can have your simcard cut at any phone shop for free. I had to do it with mine too. They use a special tool.
And! Welcome to the new family lol

I saw a review and he said that it doesn't really flip backwards properly, so I purchased a bumper from Poetic instead, I really wanted a flip case though

Hey guys
may some of you have heard of the app screen maker.
It's a really neat app to create/add screenshots with device frames
for all of us, which don't want to play around with Photoshop etc.
Sadly our O4X isn't supported yet,
but it's original developer created a survey to ask for
new devices to add.
I would really like to see some of you to vote/fill in the survey
for our device to get this in our hands
Thanks for your support :good:
Original Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931973
Direct Survey Link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/X86JNR5
(It's not a dumb survey like all of us had at some point of our online life, it's a serious thing )
Hello 4X experts,
I'm from IntegriCell, a mobile security company. We've been asked by a customer of ours to develop a custom Bootloader & ROM for the 4X HD (P880) for a demonstration. As we've got loads of other things going on, we thought maybe there would be someone on XDA-Developers who would be interested in making a few extra bucks while helping us out?
Key things that must be in the ROM:
- Bootloader software integrity check
- Kernel-level software additions to allow smartcard/PKI handling
- Android 4.2.2
We've got the initial bootloader/ROM/software design ready, and we'll provide the development handsets as well as the kernel-additions for smartcard/PKI functionality. We don't expect anyone to do this for free, so if you're interested, please send us a note telling us you're interested at [email protected] and we can work out how much your time is worth to get us a working prototype.
Thanks for your attention.
Hoping I'm not disturbing anyone in this section with this thread. Sorry if I do, it's not intentional.
I was reading about SailfishOS and found out that it has been managed to be ported/adapted (?) to some classic android phones - Moto G (2014), X2, X Force, X Play, Nexus 7, Sony Xperia Z2 (pics here )
Here's one project already made available with Sailfish_OS
There is a repo (with testing and stuff) also for this kind of projects - repo.merproject.org
There is also a "Hardware Adaptation Development Kit" - link plus documentation here - plus source code here.
This is interesting - "Sailfish OS also includes the capability to run Android™ applications. It is based on Android libraries, ensuring performance comparable to the native environment."
I was just curious how this could be a potential project for our phones - can we (try to) escape the claws of "big g" and to enjoy the freedom, as stated in the "about" section here - "Independent platform - Sailfish OS is built on the premise of inclusion, cooperation and partnership. We believe that the value of mobile ecosystems is creating networks rather than exclusive monopolies. We’re set to create an ecosystem unlike others around Sailfish OS and welcomes everyone to join the voyage"
Many thanks for your time.
Have a nice day!
Just bought an n910C (exynos version) for this reason but my sailfish efforts will begin in a few weeks. Come join us at #sailfishos-porters at Freenode

dude why, Sailfish OS brings so much more to the table than LOS15.
It brings sources for other mer based ports including nemo mobile, and breaks ground for future post market OS development.
All LOS 15 brings is a slightly newer albeit slower rom that will most likely have camera issues due to the nature of exynos development.

It would be amazing to have sailfish and also the Community can have a device with Stylus supported.
Is there any advance/new ?
You needed to wait for a while, but a port is available for the Exynos variant. (Details in my signature.)
In my years of rooting and modding Android phones I have never come across a device that is so poorly supported by Devs in XDA. I understand that a lot of continuous work goes into developing and maintaining a ROM but do these Devs even look at XDA to see what the community is saying or they just chilling on Telegram. Personally I am abandoning modding. It's not worth the bootloops, bugs, performance, software vs hardware incompatibility, having to spend hours restoring settings. Before devs perfect a version of Android here they are already on the next version just to say I'm first.
This used to be fun but not worth it anymore sorry to say.

I'm sorry you feel that way. This is partly why we have the XDA Telegram Policy; developers who post their work on XDA must continue to provide support on XDA, and may not use Telegram to provide exclusive support or updates. If you feel a developer is violating this policy, please report the ROM thread in question.
