Every time I try to go into download mode on the phone it doesn't work.
It'll either reboot right back to android or it'll go into a weird mode that a bunch of drives appear on my computer.
Only mods to the device are that it's rooted and has CWM via freedom flex.
Is there any way I can get back to stock recovery, download mode, and android?

Hi,
I've flashed multiple times before without an issue until today.
First, here's my background information:
Samsung Captivate (ATT)
Was running Continuum 5.4.1 but it felt laggy so I attempted to flash MIUI 1.5.13.
Here's what I did:
I wiped my phone using the Odin One click tool, then flashed CM7's kernel and then performed formats of the cache, system, and data, then installed MIUI RC2. After this step the phone should have restarted, then I planned to shut it down and reboot into recovery and flash 1.5.13 onto it.
My problem(s):
-Boot into recovery/download mode using key combinations is not working.
-The ADB console reports device not found when I try to run adb shell.
-The phone is undetected in Droidexplorer.
-When I attempt to download an app to boot to recovery with the phone says there is no space even though nothing has been installed other then MIUI.
What I would like to do:
Get back to stock with download/recovery modes working.
On a side note: MIUI works, but in a very limited way. I can navigate through it, but it won't allow the installation of applications due to there not being room on the phone (as said before).
Thanks!
Update - my phone was being identified as a Nexus S, so without those drivers my phone could not be debugged via USB. I now have the drivers and can perform ADB commands, however rebooting into recovery and into download mode both result in the phone restarting without going to the download or recovery mode.
Try using ODIN and repartitioning. I have good videos on standard ODIN and Heimdall on YouTube just search them. If you can not get out of this contact me, I have been able to partition debrick in the past and it's actually considered by me far more annoying than standard bootloader JTAG in certain situations. Let's hope yours is easier to bail out of!
First of all thanks for the reply and direction.
Secondly:
After working on this all last night I was able to get the phone recognized by Odin and my computer, now I am stuck at one of two screens depending on what I do.
If the phone is powered off then plugged in, the battery charging screen appears but there is no animation and after unplugging it the battery charging image remains.
If I power the phone on it hangs on the Samsung boot screen.
Repartitioning does sound like the proper direction for me to take, but, when I use Odin it freezes while setting up the connection to the phone.
when the phone is powered off try holding both vol keys and plugging in the cable. That could possibly get you to download mode. If not try vol down/pwr at the same time since you are now on GB bootloaders the keys are a bit different. Let me know what happens and good luck
maybe you should try to build a jig and use it to get into the download mode first. or you can buy it on ebay, just search for "micro usb jig".
I've tried every volume and power combination possible to no avail, I can't get into download mode. I've given in and am exchanging my phone. Thanks for the help anyway guys!
Hi,
I was using my LG G2, on the phone with my wife. After the call, I saw it say Powering Down.
That was it, no more phone. Everytime I boot it goes into recovery mode, if I try the hard reset buttons on the back, it goes through the motions, then when I boot, it goes straight to recovery.
if I try a factory reset in TWRP, nothing happens again, just it deletes all the data & goes back to recovery.
If I try to go into download mode, I dont get download mode, it goes right into recovery.
Is there anything I can do with this?
Thanks,
Rich
Sounds like the OTA update got downloaded and installed. I've accidentally done that twice since December. Try this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696
EDIT: Wish I could delete this. Just found a post about how to fix this...but it involves opening the phone and messing with the hardware. Wish someone could walk me through it :s
So, I hope I didn't, but here is the scenario:
Wanted to install Lollipop ROM from KitKat...tried, failed, found out I needed to have a downgraded radio. Okay...use LG Flash Tool to give myself another try. Load up Jellybean...couldn't figure out how to flash custom recovery in Jellybean as all tutorials are outdated or just didn't work when I tried them, so I thought the best way to do it was to get the Kitkat OTA from Verizon and let it install, then flash a custom recovery (since I figured out how to do that with Kitkat...Autorec), then flash the old radio then the Lollipop ROM and voilĂ . However, when waiting for the download for Verizon OTA, I tried again to install a custom recovery, and when tried to load it, I just got a black screen. So I just decided to go back into the Android OS and install the OTA once it finished downloading...
The OTA finished downloading and I clicked install, my phone then rebooted...and stupid me didn't even realise what I have just done. The OTA tried going to recovery mode to install...but there's nothing there. Now I am stuck at a black screen that is trying to start recovery mode and when trying to reboot and get into download mode, it won't let me and just goes to the broken recovery mode.
So...can't really think of any other options for me. What can I do? When I plug it into my computer, it connects my phone as like 20 different drive letters that all say they need to be formatted.
So my question is...what can I do?
This is my 1st Samsung device and I'm coming from a LG.
LG phones typically have a "Download Mode" separate from the recovery boot. Its a useful tool that can reflash the phone to stock conditions, even if you managed to somehow mess up the rom and the recovery. As long as you could get into Download mode, you'd always recover from any brick.
So does Samsung or Galaxy S6 have anything like this? Or is it rooting and recovery flashing as normal and pray the recovery never fails...

Samsung has a download mode as well, which is contained in your secondary boot-loader. You can access it via "adb reboot download" or from a power-off state holding: power, vol_dn, and home buttons down until you see the download mode warning text (you may have to release power a bit before the other two if the phone keeps rebooting just as you see download mode come up).
Thank you!
Hi,
I recently flashed stock D405n ROM on my phone (http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-...ck-rom-d405n-stock-rom-flashable-via-t2994824). Since I don't pay attention to details, I didn't see that this ROM will delete my Recovery/Root. I did wipe and format everything before flashing (expect internal storage). The ROM works now, but there's no baseband, so my signal drops very often and I can't get Wi-Fi working... Also, my phone is completely stock now, I can't go into recovery and flash other ROM.
So, I thought that I should just root, unlock bootloader and flash CWM again. Unfortunately, this doesn't work, because I can't get download mode working. I installed all the drivers, repeated that over and over again, tried a different OS, but I just can't get download mode to work. I turn off my phone, (tried taking out the battery too, doesn't work), hold volume up and plug in the usb cable. Phone says that download mode is loading but nothing happens, PC never recognises it and download mode never loads.
Could anybody help me get download mode working, or at least fix baseband, so I can normally use my phone and get WiFi and network working? Thanks.
