[Q] 5.1 Problems - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So since I updated to 5.1 I have had lots of problems. Dropped calls, worse battery life, and when I call a place with a touch tone menu I am unable to get through it without pushing the number multiple times. I have already factory reset my phone twice, and I am still having issues. The most annoying one is the issue with touch tone menus. Has anyone else had this problem?
EDIT: Before anyone asks, I'm on stock 5.1 LMYM47M with Franco r21.

find a stock 5.1 rom in the n6 android development threads, flash it, and the latest supersu, both in twrp recovery, if you have it installed. easiest method to fix your issue. might not be the proper way, but thats what id do

I'll try one and see if that helps. At this point, I doubt it can hurt.

Are you on Tmobile?
The 47M seems to only work with Tmobile, since its the only one out with the M designation. The only one out for everyone else ends in the 47I (i)
I tried a few different roms and couldn't get LTE, only 3g calls. I wiped grabbed the rom from Nocturnal and so far so good.

I am on T-Mobile. I tried Chroma, and I am still having issues with touch tone in calls. I can dial a number and they show up on the screen, but when prompted to push 1 I have to hit it several times before it works.
EDIT: I flashed LeanKernel and then went back to Franco and I can now go through the dumb touch tone menus just fine. I'm not sure what happened when I initially flashed Franco, but it appears to be working now.

I was wrong. It's not fixed. Still don't have consistent touch tone menu use. Anybody else have an idea as to what could fix it?

I'm also on T-Mobile and have a lot of dropped calls across the board on various ROMs...stock and custom... Also have the m bootloader and radio but it was the same with the other 5.1 radio

I was able to get touch tones working again by disabling Enhanced 4G LTE mode in settings-->more-->cellular networks.

This worked for me! Thanks. This was my biggest bug with 5.1. Tmobile.

Tmobile Wing Imtermittant call recieving

Okies, I'm posting this here because I'm not exactly sure what the issue is.
I have been have issues with my cellular radio shutting off and not restarting. For example If i go more than like 3 hours without making or receiving a call it does not receive calls at all until I make a call (which I believe resets the radio?) So no missed calls, just no calls altogether. This seems to be a recent occurrence, ever since I flashed to TTrans Open Touch 3.0, I have since then tried 4.0 and am still having the same issue. I will be reverting to the original ROM tonight but would rather stay with my current one. Any help is greatly appreciated.

try using a different radio rom and seeing if that works.

[Q] Cannot hear or talk during a call

Hey guys,
so recently I rooted my 2-week old Incredible S, and I installed Cyanogen on the phone. Everything works flawlessly, except for the fact I can't hear or talk when I or someone else makes a call, it's just awkardly quiet.
I can make the call though, but the clock keeps on ticking without me hearing something. All sound is on maximum and speaker-mode doesn't help either. Nor do I block the microphone or anything like that.
I tried everything like removing battery, SIM-card but even a factory reset didn't work. When I call with Skype it does work, I can talk and hear. Other applications that use sound or voice also work.
Does anybody have any advice?

Since CM7.1 is a Gingerbread ROM, you now need to flash a Gingerbread radio, too.
So that's it? Oh god, I'm relieved! I already spent hours and hours on the internet searching for some bug or faulty app.
Thanks for the fast reply!
Hm, so I finished installing a new Gingerbread radio on the phone by using some of the links on this page. Now I can't connect to any service or mobile provider.
Am I doing something wrong again? I already tried almost all of those gingerbread radio's.
EDIT: It seems like the problem fixed itself. All that was needed was a simple reboot, and now my connection is way better than before.
I'm glad it's finally working now!

When you first set up CM 7, which service provider did you pick? Have you tried running the CM 7 setup again or do a system reset to force CM 7 to go through the setup again?
Is this a branded IncS and if so, which carrier?

DTMF tones not being registered.

So I had to call a couple different automated systems today, first PayPal then my bank
Both times I had to be redirected to an agent because it said the information I entered is not correct. I changed the length of the tones to long and I know some presses are being entered since I could navigate the menus, but it seemed when I got to multiple presses in a row (like account numbers and passwords) it wouldn't work. I even tested calling my voicemail. It told me my password was wrong, then I called from a different phone and got in just fine. I thought maybe I was going too fast so I tried it slow and still no luck. Is there something else I need to change?
I am having the same problem. Started on 5.1.
Do you have screen protector installed? Some people claim that 5.1 made proximity sensor more sensitive. Removing screen protector ( or cutting around proximity sensor) fixed the problem.

Not sure about OP, but in my case the numbers I'm pressing show up as being pressed on the screen, but they don't register with the call itself. When I try to call my voicemail I have to push a number several times sometimes to get it to actually register. I may see "3333333", but only the last one actually registers.
I don't use a screen protector. Also like the other guy said, the button is being pressed, I turned on dialpad sounds to be sure.
Same problem on 5.1.

Are both of you that are having the same problem on stock? Figured I would submit a bug report if no one has a solution, just want to make sure someone has tested it on stock first.
I had the problem on the stock T-Mobile OTA. I was rooted and unlocked, but otherwise stock.
Stock rooted 5.1M
Sent from my Nexus 6
Same issue. Stock ROM. Franco kernel.
Stock 5.1 Franco Kernel. Same issue. Anyone getting anywhere with this. I've tried changing the DTMF from normal to long, and tried touch sounds on and off, which seems to be the only "fixes" mentioned in various places.

I had this same problem with another phone. I had to call my carrier to fix it because it was something on their end. Is everyone having this problem on the same carrier?

Verizon Here
Fixed issue by turning off VoLTE. So that sucks. Turned it back on after I was done activating the card I was trying to activate.
Does switching to long tones do anything? I've had this problem since 5.1 and am on Verizon with VoLTE.
Same problem here. Have had it across multiple versions of Chroma ROM (includes Franco kernel). VoLTE on means no DTMF, VoLTE off makes DTMF work perfect. Have seen references to similar problems on other phones and other networks.
New M radio (.16R) fixes DTMF recognition with VoLTE on. I'm on Tmobile if relevant. You can find this and all of the other radios here.
OTA update TO 5.1.1 solved this problem for me. Before the update it was almost impossible to enter my pass code in T-Mo voicemail.

LMY47Z fixes this on Verizon as well. I was having to wait a full second between numbers (which was a pita since I dial into a lot of conference calls every day)

Unfortunately the new M (preview) radio fixed this but also does not permit conference calls. The 5.1.1 Tmo OTA radio maintains this fix but also permits conference calls. Specifically, this one:

Nexus 6 On Verizon (MMS Won't Send)

Hello,
Ran into this problem earlier today. I've had the Nexus 6 for about a month now, running Chroma. Out of no where, I can no longer send MMS (but I can receive).
First I tried changing the APN settings but it still runs into the same problem. I've tried changing messenger apps but that has not worked. Last, I tried switching roms but still nothing. It's strange because this has not happened until a few hours ago and now I cannot send pictures/group messages.
If anyone has any recommendations or ideas, it would be much appreciated.

Verizon. Although, the phone itself was purchased from Motorola.
"Switched to an old version of Benzo Rom and everything seems fine now. Not sure what it is as I prefer Chroma but w/o MMS, can't fully commit. I'll keep testing to try and find out what is causing it."
Well, that was short-lived. Woke up, earlier today and MMS won't send anymore.

This happened to me about a week ago. If you have a backup of your stock ROM in twrp restore that and then go back to the last ROM you were on.

Well hang up on me and call me stupid. I've been suffering with this for well over a year, first with Samsung Note 4 and now with Nexus 6, both on Verizon. I have searched and searched and this is the first time that I have seen any mention of Adblock causing the issue. I probably missed it somewhere along the line, but it WORKED!! What a relief. Thanks so very much for the tip Trim81. Now I can see about using Tasker to turn Adblocker on and off when I open messenger. Again, great tip. It worked.
I believe all you need to do is whitelist

Nexus 6 crackling when making calls using voLTE on T-Mobile.

I have this annoying issue where if I enable voLTE on the Nexus 6 the call quality is horrible. It crackles really bad and I can barely understand the person but when I talk they can hear me no problems. It even crackles when I call someone and it is ringing for them to pick up. If I turn off voLTE and use HSPA for the voice calls they are so clear with no crackling. I called T-Mobile dozens of times and first they said that they were upgrading and provisioning towers but today with voLTE off I got a missed call as I was next to my phone and it did not ring except the sound it made saying new voice mail. Not the first time as I got a missed called last week with voLTE off. I am running out of ideas and I am getting tired of this phone. The last problem I had was major WiFi slowdown streaming music it would start to buffer and my 60mbps connection speed would slow down to 0.1mbps on the Nexus 6 using a Asus router. Finally had to buy a new Netgear router to fix this.
Really need some kind of answer. Googling is useless actually giving me junk links saying that calls sound better on voLTE yea right. Really the only thing I found on here remotely related was the cracking speakers. I am at a lost and I might just end up getting a different phone and cut my big lost buying this thing. Also I am running stock rom using the newest build that Google pushed which did nothing in fixing Wifi problems with my old router and crackling calls on voLTE. Basically a worthless update.

Link to the radio? It's not listed in the general thread. Also, do I have to flash the bootloader with the radio or can I just flash the radio? I OTA'd to the latest bl and radio when I first got my phone then rooted it.

Sweet thank you sir. I'm on pure nexus build 8/28. Will this break anything or mess anything up? I only ask because I think from what I read before, this radio and BL are for the 5.0.2 build and I'm on 5.1.1

Ok cool. I flashed it and no more crackling or popping noise! :good: what was weird though was that after I flashed it and made a phone call, it had a little icon for HD but then went away like 2 seconds later. Now it doesn't show up anymore. Any ideas what that means? And how do I add to your thanks count @jamescable

Lol, I don't know about that thanks meter, but its normal for hd icon...depends ont he rom, like on cyanide rom in using, it stays on, some roms don't even have it...you'll still have hd call regardless as long as u use a tmo bootloader and radio
Thank you very much @jamescable. I was on the latest build LYZ28K and for some reason it wasn't even placing calls over LTE. When I dialed, it would switch to HSPSA/3G and no HD icon. Now it will keep on LTE when I call and I have the HD icon up. My question to you is why in your .zip were there what looked like 5 separate bootloaders and 5 separate radio .imgs? Had I just pulled the single bootloader .img and radio .img from LMY47M and flashed them do you think I would have had the same results? Maybe it's a noob question and I should do more reading. Feel free to put me in my place if necessary, but if you have any insights as to why this worked or why the current build's radio and bootloader didn't work, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks again.
Noob question
But how do I flash the bootloader.img and radio and which one cause in the link there's a couple of each sorry about the question but having same issues and can't keep lte keeps dropping and calls don't go through.
I'm using the radio from MPA44I (6.0 Preview 4), MDM9625_104662.22.05.24R
Sorry

Sorry, been busy....the zip I posted is the FULL image files.....in the bootloader.IMG there are other files....this is all of them...hard to explain
Do we flash this in recovery or using Flashify/Flashfire? Flash as boot.IMG or zip file?
