[Q] Boot-loop after root attempt - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I just tried to root my Note 4 (SM-N910F) following the instructions of: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/orig-development/sm-n910-cf-auto-root-t2897428
The process has been completed with "Pass!". However, when the phone tried to reboot, the following massage appeared in the top-left corner:
"RECOVERY BOOTING"
"RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING"
"SET WARRANTY BIT: RECOVERY"
In another thread I read that I should try re-flashing and uncheck "Auto Reboot" in Odin, and enter recovery by pressing Home+ Vol Up + Power. Unfortunately, the result did not change.
I was not able to enter recovery. The phone just rebooted and displayed the message above.
Any ideas what I should do? Any help is appreciated.

So, I managed to fix my problem.
I downloaded TWRP (the tar-file) and flashed it with Odin. My phone reboots again - however I do not have Superuser, so I guess root did not work after all.
Thread can be closed.

I believe you have to flash the superuser zip file in the root instructions with twrp.
Edit: I tried to find for you but I forget where I saw it. Or as a try download the app and also root checker to see of it workes

Boot into TWRP and flash the superuser.zip you can get it on the cf auto root site.

CyanogenMod

Guys,
I'm losing my mind here.
I've tried to install the CyanogenMod but I've run into some problems.
Why is it so damn difficult to install this?
I've spent 4 hours following different guides and none of them are step by step.
The ones that come close, never mention possible issues along the way which you then have to find on other forums.
Anyway,
can someone please help me with the following:
I'm getting stuck on booting into recovery.
I run the command and the phone reboots. however, it then presents a Triangle and an exclamation mark!
The instruction show that I am supposed to see a Green text recovery screen.
I'm having to hit the up volume and power button, which gives a blue text recovery screen with limited options.
I've tried the Amon_Ra's Recovery process and the ClockworkMod Recovery process to no avail!!!
I also tried the rom manager but the app keep giving "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands"
I know it's something that I'm doing wrong but I'm very close to throwing this phone out the window and going back to an iphone... This is just not ****ing worth it.
I've done everything up to reboot to recovery part from this guide: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Nexus_One:_Full_Update_Guide

Go to this thread. Read it. Download the apk. Root your device (you could not flash a custom recovery because you are not rooted!...). Download RomManager from the Market. Install a custom recovery through RomManager and you are done.

mhhh ok. So you probably have no insecure boot image. That's probably why you can't flash any recovery from RomManager....
Try this at MoDaCo. Download an unsecure boot image... And try again.
Downloaded Universal Androot.
Clicked to root, goes OK ok ok ok ok ok ok ok then "Failed ! No ~~~ Fu Goo ~~~
edit - trying superoneclick

ok, superoneclick seemed to have work and rooter the phone!
using rom manager to flash the clockwordmod recovery now. Lets see if it fails and gives and permissions error. If not, I'll boot into recovery and see if that works.
thanks for the assistance thus far.. /puts iphone back in the drawer.
recovery worked, ran the update.zip
downloaded the Cyanogen mode via rom manager, but when it tried the clockwork recovery, I get the triangle again... frustrating.

what update .zip?
I have the same problem...Well i rooted with superclick then when i go into recovery mode and click on recovery it shows a white triangle. I removed the memory card while rooting, could that be the problem?
You need to delete the following two files, and reinstall your custom recovery. These files restore the stock recovery during a full boot.
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
/system/recovery-from-boot.p

[HOW TO] Root / Install CWM Recovery On the Galaxy Tab 2 P31XX running 4.1.1 OTA

So you just finished following RGNDI's Guide on how to install JellyBean on your Gtab2 P31XX. Looks Nice right. But now you want to root it. That's what I'm here to help you do.
I've tested this Method Over and Over on the P3113 and it works every time with CWM Recovery 6. I'm pretty sure this will also work on the other 31XX variants
What You Need:
# Odin
# Samsung Kies
# CWM Recovery Image: 3113 | 3110 | 3100
# Gtab2 JB Rooter Zip
What To Do:
- Make sure Kies is Closed
- Copy the GTab2 JB Rooter Zip to your Tab
- Disconnect the Tab from your PC
- Restart your Tab in Download Mode (Power Off Tab then Hold Volume - & Power Button)
- Open Odin and UNCHECK "Auto Reboot" only
- Click the PDA button and find the CWM Tar file and select it (DO NOT HIT START YET)
- Plug in your Tab to the PC at which point the first "ID:COM" box should turn yellow and the Message windows should read "Added"
- Now, Hit Start
- When Completed the "ID:COM" Box should turn Green and right above it it should say "Pass"
- **Now the Following 3 Steps are Crucial, so read them carefully**
- Disconnect the Tab from your PC
- Hold down THE POWER BUTTON ONLY so the Tab will Turn Off
- Restart the Tab in Recovery Mode (Hold Volume + & Power Button), this should get you into CWM
(If you see Stock Recovery, you messed up, start again)
- In CWM, Select "Install Zip from SDCard" and find the Gtab2 JB Rooter zip file and install it
- Select "Go Back+++" and then "Reboot Device"
- At this Time, CWM will ask if you want to prevent the OS from Removing CMW, "SELECT YES"
- Thats it. When your Tab Starts up, you will have SuperSU installed, Open it, Update it, whatever you want.
You have just Succesfully Rooted and Installed CWM on your Gtab2
Special Thanks to the CWM Team for the Recovery Images and Thanks to Gecko225 over at Rootzwiki for the CWM Odin tars
cant get any of the links to work :crying:
EDIT: sorry my mistake!
I can't update a binary of superSU!!

whats the error you are getting?
Side Note:
Ketut made a real nice Odin Flashable CWM that gives you Root, and everything else all in one, so You can follow my instructions above, OR, just flahs his CWM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880010
I have tried this 5 times and I can not get it to work. Odin says successful...but I keep getting stock recovery upon reboot.
What am i doing wrong?
EDIT: My bad I got it!
If you plug it into a charger prior to holding the power button for a hard reboot it will shut off and start to charge. Then you can unplug it wait for screen to go black. Then do your button combo. This will help with those of you fighting the recovery overwrite on boot. Gotta catch it on first try.
Is this working with OTA Update 2 for JB 4.1.1 ( leaked SAMMobile code )?
I have CWM Recovery 6.0.1.1 installed & it is working across device reboot.
JB rooter zip installs fine as well....but after reboot....when I run SuperSU from the menu....getting error:
"There is no SU binary instaled, and SuperSU cannot install it, This is a problem!"
What could this be?

I didnt create the recovery, Ketut did so please ask him because he will probably know better
but I'll try to help you anyway....
connect the table, and from the command line type "adb devices" and see if its detected.
if it is, try "adb reboot download", which should put the tablet in download mode
try flashing regular CWM following the instructions in this thread.
come back and report what happens
Running 4.1.1 JB. Installed everything according to instructions. SuperSU appears in applications but gives an error when run. Tab has no root. Can anybody advise what went wrong?
If this doesn't work, I guess I'll have to fall back on 4.0.4 :crying:
why dont you all use ketut's single file method ? so simple. you get yellow triangle which goes away with CF 's TA

Binary missing ?
Your method helped me install CWM on my Tab. Though when started SU, it said binary missing.
Tried single click method. Worked for me on OTA 4.1.1.
This worked for me... 4.1.1 ota, I had to uninstall old superuser app and flash ywice. I was lucky I did the ota rooted and had the sd sdcard scripted. So smooth and the ir does work
GT-P3113 - KFHD 8.9 - XT912
Worked perfect on the 4.1.1 update, did have to flash rooter zip twice and I fixed permissions for kicks and giggles. :good:

corrupted recovery

First thank you for all the wonderful work there to help us make the best out of this phone.
Yesterday, I tried to install the CM10 ROM (cm-10-20121126-UNOFFICIAL-ancora_tmo) but encountered a serious problem. Since I flashed a custom ROM last time in Aug., I haven't updated the recovery (CWM-base Recovery v5.5.0.4b). When I booted into the recovery, I found it lost all its functionality. To be specific, any selection on menu options (reboot system now, ROMwipe, wipe cache, etc.) yielded no result but a screen with a circling arrow covered by a hat. After that only the power button worked and it would simply bring you back to the main menu. I tried to communicate with the phone in ADB mode and it worked (by that I mean I can reboot it from windows command shell: adb reboot recovery). Now I have no way to update the recovery and install new ROM from there.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
If you can communicate via windows then install Odin and flash from it. Full instructions is on the wiki page

I'd followed the instruction and found the Odin rebooted to the exact recovery! There it showed a few lines like:
Galaxy Exhibit CWM-based Recovery v5.5.0.4b
Finding update package ...
Opening update package ...
Verifying update package ...
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Now the phone can not boot into the original ROM.
When booted into recovery use volume keys to navigate in cwm. Also retry to download the ROM and try cwm before Odin.
Odin is on computer and phone is hooked via USB cable. It cannot boot into cwm if followed Odin. You ha e to download Odin and drivers for cell to be recognized.
Do a YouTube search for Odin and watch the vid it will show you. Be it noted that cell will need to be set into download mode and USB enabled.

Yes, I used the home capacitive to select those options on the main menu. No matter what I choose, however, the power button can get me the circling arrow with a hat. Another push on the button, you are back on the main menu.
You are deffeinitly booted into cwm so I suspect from the install error that the signature verification is what's failing. Try another ROM or redownload and try again

I've redownloaded the uvlg3.odin.zip package and checked its MD5. Everything is OK. Then followed the instruction on the Wiki page, but ended on the same CWM recovery screen with the same error message.
The problem is: it seems like the phone boots successfully into the recovery, but it only shows the main menu with no option functioning (like I described before).
Has anyone read about similar problem anywhere before?

N920C - Kernel is not seandroid enforcing

Hello All,
As the topic says i tried to root my Note 5 device using "Noble_Kernel_Auto-Root_N920T_v0.1_Rebuid3" and Root Checker Basic says "Root access is properly installed on this device" ...
However it reboots itself from time to time and i see the red "Kernel is not seandroid enforcing" warning.
I rooted it once more and during root i saw the red warning there as well...
Did i do sth wrong or do i need to wait more for a proper root for my model.
Also i do need the stock software...
Your helps are highly appreciated,
Thanks in advance
Theo
I solved this problem by following the items below (follow the order);
1) load stock firmware (download from sammobile use odin),
2) reboot and check your device is normal again,
3) backup your phone,
4) root once more,
5) reboot and see the red writing in upper left corner,
6) turn off and enter into recovery mode,
7) wipe/clear cache,
8) reboot,
9) enjoy
P.S. : From what i have read "Kernel is not seandroid enforcing" simply shows "your warranty is now void"
As i write these my phone shows it while every reboot but the reboot problem seems solved (none for a couple of days)
Hope it helps you too
That was normal on note 3. My 5 isn't rooted, but sounds like the same thing.

it's a known issue with some kernels for the Note5; you might see if arter97's kernel works for the 920C. i've been using his kernel since he released it on my 920T and haven't had any rebooting issues. i believe the message Kernel is not seandroid enforcing is common on Note 4/5 rooted devices that don't use a Samsung sourced kernel. arter97's kernel is based on Samsung sources so it doesn't show that message at boot-up. hope this is helpful for you.

GT-I9295 Brick? Stock ROM fail on system.img.ext4 in Odin

Hi all.
A newbie, I ended up lost after trying to flash the latest CM 12.1 on my Samsung Galaxy S4 Active GT-I9295.
At first, there was an issue with the recovery, which upon entering showed black screen instead of the tool itself.
Trying to fix this, I managed to remove the recovery through flashing the Stock ROM, which has failed in Odin on the "system.img.ext4" instead - could not paste screenshot link here, feel free to ask for it, please!
I must say that I have tried hard to figure out what to do with the mess I have caused, but now I am helpless.
Would anyone give me some nice piece of advice to get my phone going again?
Thank you so much!

Did you try odin 3.10 by any chance? That could be the problem. Use odin 3.07 or 3.09, boot manually into download mode with complete shutdown & using vol down + power key and odin the stock ROM, reboot and do the same with TWRP (hold down the vol up key after flashing recovery when it is rebooting)

Hi there, Jason.
Yes, I did exactly as you say - got to the download mode, plugged in, ran Odin (tried 3.10, 3.09 and 3 v1.85) started flashing the latest Stock ROM and the I only got as far as the "system.img.ext4", when the download failed. Sometimes that happened even earlier, saying that there was no PIT etc.
When trying to flash the CWM recovery, it goes through OK, but then when trying to get into it, the screen just goes black, as described in my previous thread - "CWM or TWRP Recovery Black Screen".
I am stuck.
But I still hope that I am not a proud brick owner

Are you using the original USB cable if not then try with another cable. Also what is the device name shown when you boot into download mode

Hi. Try this:
Remove the battery and USB cable from your phone, and wait at least 3 seconds.
Place the battery only back in your phone.
Fingers on volume down and home, then another on power. (cold boot directly into download mode - this is important!)
Press up to enter download mode.
Insert USB cable into phone and lie it down somewhere it won't move or be touched during the flash.
Download a good current copy of Odin from:
https://idlekernel.com/flash-tools/Odin_3.10.7.zip
Extract the archive and run Odin.exe
Download this emergency recover tar for your device (newest firmware revision available as of right now):
https://idlekernel.com/flash-tools/recover/BL_I9295XXUDPA4_RECOVER.tar.md5 (also has official TWRP 3.0.0-2)
Insert "BL_I9295XXUDPA4_RECOVER.tar.md5" in the [BL] slot.
In the Options tab put an [✔] in the "Phone Bootloader Update" checkbox.
If you don't have anything you need on your internal storage, put an [✔] in the "Nand Erase All" checkbox.
Click [Start].
Once the progress bar is near finished, place your fingers on volume up and home to enter directly into official TWRP 3.0.0-2.
If you used the "Nand Erase All" feature earlier, you will need to go into Wipe -> [Format Data] -> type "yes" for your data partition to be usable again.
Hopefully this will get you past your black screen issues.
PS. Remember to flash stock boot.img with your system.img.ext4, as you cannot boot a ROM without a matching boot image.
