Check your device model ! Settings -> About device -> Model number. See the third post for exact supported model numbers. If your device is a totally different model, it will not work (may even brick) !
CF-Root is the root for "rooting beginners" and those who want to keep as close to stock as possible. CF-Root is meant to be used in combination with stock Samsung firmwares, and be the quickest and easiest way for your first root.
Donate
CF-Root has been available for many devices and has clocked over 8 million downloads. This is not even counting custom ROMs that already include it. Don't be a leech, buy me a beer (and use the "Thanks" button!). Imagine if every CF-Root user has donated me $1...
What's installed
- SuperSU binary and APK
- Stock recovery
Installation and usage
Flash the CF-Auto-Root package as PDA in ODIN (details on how to do that are in next post), and your device should reboot into a modified recovery (signified by a large red Android logo) and it will install SuperSU for you and restore the stock recovery, and reboot back into Android.
If you don't get to the red Android logo, boot into recovery manually ("adb reboot recovery", or boot while holding Power+VolUp+Home).
Using this root increases your flash counter. You should run Triangle Away (see below) after rooting to reset the counter. Note that if you want to run custom kernels or custom recoveries, your flash counter will be set to 1 at every boot. Either configure Triangle Away to reset the counter at every boot (Play version only) or only reset the counter when you need to go into warranty.
Did you see the red Android logo during rooting, but SuperSU does not appear? This may sometimes occur due to left-over files and settings, however, you can usually install SuperSU from Google Play at this stage and it'll just work.
Not included - Triangle Away
Triangle Away can be used to reset the flash counter after installing CF-Root. The flash counter keeps track of how many custom firmwares you have flashed, as this voids warranty. (No idea what this about ? Read up on it, you will want to use this !)
Not included - adbd Insecure
As this CF-Root does not include a custom kernel, adb shell does not have root access by default (you can still get it by typing su inside the shell), nor is adb remount supported, nor will adb push and adb pull work on system files. adbd Insecure can be used to remedy this situation. (No idea what this is about ? Don't worry about it !)

For requests for new roots and generic discussion - please keep device specific discussion in the thread you are viewing now.
ODIN Installation (detailed)
- Follow these instructions to the letter. Do not touch any buttons or checkboxes that are not listed below to touch!
- Unzip the attached Odin3-vX.X.zip file
- Download and unzip the CF-Auto-Root-....zip file (see posts below this one)
- If you end up with a recovery.img and cache.img file, you've extracted twice. You need to end up with a .tar.md5 file - don't extract that one
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start Odin3-vX.X.exe
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Auto-Root-....tar.md5
- Put your phone in download mode (turn off phone, then hold VolDown+Power to boot - if it asks you to press a button to continue, press the listed button, or run adb reboot download command)
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure Repartition is NOT checked
- Click the Start button
- Wait for Android to boot
- Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)
- NOTE: Sometimes the device does *not* boot into recovery mode and root your device. Just do the entire procedure again if this happens. If it still will not install root and such, make sure that in Odin "Auto Reboot" is not checked. Then after flashing, hold VolUp+Power (for several seconds) to boot into recovery manually. This will start the install process.
New to Samsung? Unfamiliar with Odin? Think all the above is a hassle? Get used to it. It's very simple, and us Samsung folk use Odin (or Mobile ODIN ) for everything! It's so very very convenient once you get used to it. Notice the 30 second comment above? For experienced users, the entire process indeed takes only 30 seconds!
You may now optionally want to install and run Triangle Away to reset the flash counter.

Do you have a blue progress bar on screen below the Android ?
If it's full, just reboot the phone.
45 min, may have a problem? HELP!
Just reboot your phone. Pull the battery, hold power button, whichever works. Then see what happens.
DONT PANIC. Nothing bad has happened.

Ehh, silly question, did you use ODIN and uploaded the file? Because then you should definitely get a progress bar.

Not the tab, but ODIN had a bunch in the lower left. succeed 0/failure 0 and the last was please wait.
I think it's a driver problem as I did root something else a few weeks ago? But there was a SAMSUNG driver in device manager with no exclamations.
Was a driver problem in win7 64b. Rooted now and Ti backup works great. Thanks a bunch.
Hi guys, i gonna tell you about how my i9001 was stuck in a bootloop. Maybe you could help me. I'm sick of it.
Cause: I installed cm10 and cwm5 or 6 as recovery and upgrade my device using Ota Updater. When I restarted my i9001, it got stuck in a bootloop.
What my i9001 can display: It can access to rampdump mode and download mode. In case I try to turn on my i9001 or access to recovery mode the Samsung logo/word is shown twice and stops showing anything else. It often gets stuck showing the typical grey battery flat (with a loading stopped) and the black screen alternately. This is caused when I a disconnect the USB cable from my computer/laptop.
Attempts: i've tried everything except for the right solution. Lots of forum threads and nothing works for me. I've tried:
1.- Boot_loader for device boot.
2.- I've flashed an stock rom: XXKQP, and 2 more: BVKPC y XXKQ1. Each one are official.
3.- And then recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4 and -6.0.1.2.
4.- I've tried, then, flashing feamodrecovery 1.2.
5.- Nothing works for me.
I've been using Odin 4.43. AriesVE in OPS section and when flashing these roms: one package. For recovery packages: one package and pda (I tried these two options).
I can't reach at recovery mode. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Greetings!

When phone boots there's nearlz always a solution

slow--welder59, any of these solutions helped me. I tried with any other combination of combos but nothing happened. I didn't know to use adb method. I installed adb drivers but it didn't detect my device. When I entered to download mode and pressed Install (in the program) tried to download something but it stopped.
Any suggestion?
Can anyone help me? I want to exhaust all possible options.

What happens when you try to format data from recovery...?
If you get some errors, write them here...
If everything goes well, then it is not what im expecting (in that case problem is probably easier to solve)...

Yes I can, and that's the reason why I don't give up hope. However, I've tried installing some stock roms and recoveries and nothing worked for me.
Try one of the following (or both even if your desperate):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1922505 (broodROM RC5 download link) [recomended]
http://broodplank.net/old/flashsamsungi9001.php (skip chapter 5 as it doesn't apply) [if that doesn't work]
edit:: USB Drivers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
stepie22, thank you for your help. Nothing worked for me.
First link: another typical manual for installing a stock rom via Odin. During the process my device powered off. It was supposed to reboot. After the process ended, i disconnected it from PC and its screen showed a grey empty battery (with a loading in the middle) and word "Samsung" alternatively.
Second link: this was the solution for my first brick. Then, my device showed this yellow triangle. This second time is annoying me. I haven't found any solution to change, at least, the behaviour of my device.
Any other different solution? Thnks guys.

See this ... if that is the triangle, find that part on the wiki page.
Maybe your device got the eMMC Bug?
Normally your Device would be hardbricked if you "over" flashed.
If nothing works out try this:
Have a look in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2224029
Download CWM Recovery 6.0.2.8 ODIN Package and flash it in "Download Mode" the regular way (AriesVE.ops and onepackage).
Then maybe you are able to enter Recovery Mode again...
This might be not your problem, but you could give it a try:
Some people had issues with rebooting in recovery, so there is a fix in this post

WELCOME TO SUPER GUIDE on how to root and add Custom Recovery for Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G901F 4G+ kccat6/kccat6xx) (ONLY FOR THIS MODEL)!
~Guide By me, KiprasLT

To @Tkkg1994 for TWRP Custom Recovery,
To The well known and Mighty @Chainfire (If I missed someone, PM me!)
IF YOU FOLLOW MY STEPS BELOW, YOU WILL MAY LOSE YOUR WARRANTY, KNOX WILL DISPLAY 0x1! I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGED DEVICE!
BEFORE STARTING, make sure you have your sistem backup, if somethink goes wrong.
PLEASE, follow the instructions step-by-stop to make sure you succeed!
Now, let's get started:
1. Make sure you have USB Debugging enabled on your phone. You can easily enable it by going into --> Settings, scroll down, till you see "About phone" --> Scroll down till you see "create number". Tap it 7 times and you will enable developer settings. Now go back, scroll down again, and next to "About phone" you will see "Developer Options". Click on them. Make sure they are enabled by looking at top right corner and clicking white dot. Now go down till you see "USB Debugging" Press on it and click "OK" Check if it's enabled, then your phone is prepared.
2. Go ahead and download Odin3 latest (most recent) version into your computer. (Just google "Download Odin" or "Download Odin3".
3. Create a folder on your desktop and name it whatever you wish.
4. Download CF-Autoroot-kccat6-kccat6xx-smg901f.tar.md5 by clicking here and put it into the folder you just created, or just download it and put it into the folder. This is autoroot. It will root your device.
5. Download TWRP Custom Recovery by clicking here and put it into the folder you just created, or just download it and put it into the folder. This is Custom Recovery, it's the best one yet for SM-G901F. (Thank you once again Tkkg1994 for letting us use it and have it on our S5's)
6. Make sure your phone has at least 60% of battery remaining.
7. Power off the phone while holding power button and pressing "Power off" and "OK" and wait for it to turn off.
8. Get the phone into Download mode by pressing and holding Volume Down + Power + Home buttons at once. Wait for yellow think pop up with some text. Then press Volume UP to get into Download mode.
9. Plug your phone into PC with USB cabble. Then Open Odin. If it's not installed, just install it. Then wait for odin to recognise your phone (where it says ID:COM) that little box should turn into blue color. Go to options, make sure that ONLY autoreboot and F. Reset Time are market. Then, next to AP, mark it, and then click it. Select CF-Auto-Root-kccat6-kccat6xx-smg901f.tar.md5 and click "open". Wait for it to load up.
9.1 Hit the start button and watch the magic happen. You can take a look at your phone and see that blue think is charging up fast. Just let him do his thing. After the autoroot is applied, the phone will reboot itself. Remember that only first reboot after flashing somethink new will take longer. Stay calm and chill. Btw you can close odin for now.
10. Enter the pin code if the phone asks it, then turn on wifi. SuperSU message should pop up telling to install SuperSU. Do it (You need Wi-Fi). When the SuperSU is installed, your device should be rooted. (Don't freak out if SuperSU message didn't pop up, you can allways install it from Google Play store). You can go to google play store, download root checker, open it, click on "check root" or something similar, it will ask root acess, accept it. Then it's probably going to show that this device is properly rooted. Gratz! If not, you managed to screw up somewhere :crying:
Now, it's time for Custom recovery. It's much more better than standart recovery, and it will probably be needed in future.
Sooo, step 11. Get your phone into download mode once again (Power off, then Volume down+Power+Home) and then Volume up.
11.1 Connect your phone into your computer with USB cabble.
11.2 Open Odin/Odin3. Again, wait for it to recognise your phone, then click on "options", again, make sure that only Autoreboot and F. Reset Time are market. Then, next to AP, mark it, and then click it. Select g901f-cwm-recovery-6.0.5.1(1130).tar and press "open". Wait for it to load up.
11.3 Hit the start button and once again, watch the magic happen.
12. After succesfully flashing custom recovery, your phone should reboot by itself.
Guess what folks? This is it! You should have your SM-G901F G4+ rooted and have a custom recovery applied! CONGRATULATIONS to you! If you liked the guide, please hit "Thanks" button, it helps a lot And you can also rate this Threat! If you need any help, just post your question down here in the comment section.
Just a thing: I don't suggest installing Cyanogens (CM) Custom ROM. I've had so much trouble with CM 12, with removing it, fixing my phone and fixing google apps untill I totaly reseted it. However you are free to do what you want. If you found better ROM that's working for you and may work for others, be sure to share it right here in the comment section!
Edit: I found out that this guy @Tkkg1994 posted a good guide about how to install a ROM for this device! I tested it myself and it works perfectly! Currently testing other features, but It's the best one yet for SM-G901F G4+ kccat6/kccat6xx, you can check out the guide by clicking here!

I have installed android 5.0.2. Can you please tell me what em I doing wrong? I tried even twp recovery, and it's the same. I thought by rooting I will solve this "failed one" problem, but unfortunately, I didn't have any success.

I think I had the same problem, I just made a backup of my files and then I flashed default firmware (official post + download link + guide here) and then on top of it flash CWM Custom recovery, then the phone should reboot, and then you can try to flash the CF-Autoroot again. Please reply back to me if it worked/didn't work.
P.S. Make sure that your phone is Samsung Galaxy S5 G901F 4G+. If it isn't, please reply.
Hi KiprasLT, I already have downloaded the default android(G901FXXU1BOC4_G901FNEE1BOC4_NEE). I checked, my device is SM-G901F Lte+. I don't know if it's the same as 4g or there are some differences, that's why I wrote this message. Please tell me, if it's the
same, or it changes everything.

It's a little bit different from the 4G+, but I'm not sure if it changes anythink. You might have to google it yourself or find another guide, becouse I myself don't own the lte+ nor I have any experiance with it.
Hi again. Somehow, I rooted, and installed cw. When I tryed to install the system, it passed, but I've got a bootloop. So I restored the factory firmware. Any suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Yeah I think the cw doesn't work for this phone model, so just stick whit what I've provided, it's working perfectly for me for about half a year and I'm not complaining. If you have any more questions, just reply to me.

I changed the DPI of my S5 Plus to 400 instead of the default 480. Some apps now appear in smaller boxes on the screen. For me the biggest problem is that the camera now has this problem.
In other threads people bring this up for the normal s5. The solution is to use Xposed to set custom Appsettings. But the problem is that Xposed doesn't work (yet) on the S5 plus! So is there any other way to fix the camera app?
Cheers!

That message is fine. Been on mine since day one....
You need to go back into download mode a Odin back to stock.
EDIT: Why are you wanting to mess with dm verity ?

I flashed twrp and after that system wasnt booting up
I read in a recovery form ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...y-official-twrp-galaxy-s6-edge-t3354508/page8 that mm introduced verity checks so it can only be disabled if i flash something that disables it..and hence get out of bootloops...
I was making a mistake using adb sideload.. once i corrected the command, everything works...
P.s. its great to see a reply from a dev like you...
"RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING" is a normal message when you have a custom recovery installed. Ignore it. It simply means the recovery image did not pass the bootloader's security check; this does not affect your ability to flash ROMs or use your phone.

Some kernels like stock will have that message in red. My kernels do not.
It affects nothing is pretty straight forward. Did your phone boot? Notice any issues?
It's easy to remove the warning when it goes to recovery. But that means it must be complied with that change.

Good to hear
@tuffmek:
Why did you continue to ask questions when you were told not to worry about it? The SEANDROID ENFORCING error message is inconsequential. If you install a custom recovery such as TWRP, you WILL see the "RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING" message, because custom recoveries do not pass the security check. It is NOT an issue. If you install a custom kernel, you will see a similar message. Once again it is not an issue.
I seem to be saying this a lot: If you don't know what you're doing and don't know how to fix it if something goes wrong, you should NOT be doing it in the first place. Questions like this are rather elementary and honestly should not be asked.
This will be for the SM-G935D/SC-02H Japanese variant of the s7 edge.

This recovery working for you? Others stated the one in the op works just fine, but since I do not have this device to test personally I can only go off of what users say.
it's working for me, after i flash the ROM i think my phone got bootloop that's why i boot again to download mode but when i tried to flash stock rom it gives a fail. now my phone stuck on led blue light and "Recovery Booting (Blue text color) and "Set Warranty Bit: Recovery" (Yellow Text Color). i need to wait to drain the battery and try if i can boot to download mode again.. i'm afraid if i can't access download mode again or recovery.
You guys are remembering to format data on a new twrp install or a new os version install? 6-7,7-8 get it? These roms or recoverys will not brick the devices I made them for kinda impossible.
You do know a brick right? Brick = no power nothing just a pricey paperweight.
how about my problem "Recovery Booting (Blue text color) and "Set Warranty Bit: Recovery" (Yellow Text Color) and it keeps restarting i can't access recovery either download mode

did u unlock your bootloader? sounds like you did not.
it won't my phone to unlock bootloader everytime i run CROM it closes automatically. until now i can't believe my phone was bricked and i don't have any idea to fix this without download mode. even if i bring this to service center i think they will not to accept my phone because my warranty is already void.

Hello! first of all thank you for this thread. I've been reading since the first thread that sir Travis has created.
I just can't unlock my bootloader, I think it is the reason why I am having bootloops after installing the rom , and even I install the rom in this thread I am still having the bloated one after installing.
I tried installing different CROM Services from every other sources that I found, but still no luck. CROM service has stopped -error I get when opening after installing it on my phone.
I also tried factory resetting my phone then install CROM but still same error occurs.
I hope you can help me guys. Thank you in advance!

SC-02H/SCV33 doesn't need to unlock bootloader. Because they aren't been locked bootloader.
So there's no need to do that.

I tried it again, I've waited for almost 1 hour, and nothing happens. I wonder, before booting, something shows at the top with yellow font color says "Set Warranty Bit : kernel", is it normal for that to show? or is it mean that Im having a corrupted boot data?
