Edit: I mean 2nd gen (one with hdmi and camera)
I'm a bit confused with this. I have one on the way, but I'm concerned it will have been updated to the latest firmware. Are there downgrades available if it is locked down, or is it just not an issue with the latest firmware?

I started getting that on 2 kf hd 7" and 1 kf 8.9 that were rooted and updates disabled about 2 years ago. I was on here trying to remember how I rooted it in the first place to restore it.

It's officially out today!
HOWEVER... it's still listed as not available for my Xoom LTE. Not sure if they forgot to check the box for this model. If someone can get the new tablet friendly APK out there, I'd be obliged. I've already submitted a message to Hulu support.
i was able to install it on my xoom.

i have no clue how to do that.
It's good to know how to do it, programs like ASTRO File Manager or App Backup & Restore can backup the apps installed on your phone or tablet as APK files, which can be installed on any device. It doesn't back up app data (You need root and Titanium Backup for that), but it's great if you want to save old versions of apps in case someone releases a bad update, or if you want to copy them to a device that doesn't have the Android Market or something like that.
Then you stick 'em on some sort of site that lets people download 'em.
Installed fine, however getting DRM not supported error...
I'm running EOS ICS on my CDMA Verizon Xoom, and no dice. I installed it on my Transformer, no problem. Used Astro to backup the apk; however, it says its private and won't allow me to. I've tried to install from the device and the web based play store. No go.
I don't think it's compatible with ICS yet, because my Galaxy Nexus is also non-supported; however, I have ICS on my Nexus S and it installed just fine, so...idk
Runs on my xoom just fine.

Im using market update version -
As of last night, my Xoom LTE could install the app off the Play Store. I could also start a video, but the connection wasn't great it seemed, and I got a network error after like fifteen seconds.
It seems like the only people who have gotten the official app to work on their Xoom, are people with the 4G LTE Xoom. Although, it does not say it will only work on 4G LTE in the Google Play app store, there seems to be a pattern. I wonder if a build.prop edit could fix the issue?

So is it possible to root the all new Kindle Fire HD 7" ($139.99) with Fire OS 3.0 on it? I'd be looking to put Android 4.2.2. Or is it possible to load the Play store onto the device?
If so, is it also possible to renew the device back to Fire OS 3.0?
Well its brand brand new ya know? I am also curious about this question booting andriod that is
I've used them bone stock with Fire OS 3.0 and for $139 it works flawlessly, however i'd love to get the Google Play store at the least.

Have you tried Bin4ry's Root Many Android yet? It has worked for every Kindle Fire since the second generation devices were released, so I find it hard to believe that it wouldn't work for the newer devices as well.

I haven't purchased one yet. I've only used one a work.
It probably won't be far off. @Hashcode seems to be already working on it, based on this.
It doesn't appear that he ever ended up getting it done because he hasn't posted in about a month. I actually went out and purchased one, so I am quiet eager.

Hashcode is a busy guy. He develops for about a dozen different devices, so adding one more to that roster is going to take a while. Yes, we're all eager for his work as well, as his ports of CM10.1 and CM10.2 are amazing. Even if we have to wait a year, Hashcode, and if not him, someone else will get around to developing for the new Fire:fingers-crossed:
And if you did go out and actually buy one, why not try doing what @soupmagnet suggested and try the Bin4ary root method on it? Amazon may have forgotten to patch the fake-backup we use to "sneak in" the root binaries.

Could I get the link to the method? This would be the first time I have rooted a device, however i'm sure I could do it. I've been building computers since I was 14.
I don't think it would work though, because this Kindle runs version 11.3.0.3 not 7.4.6

Here's the link. I know, it's for 7.4.7, but hey, who knows? It may work :fingers-crossed:
And the KFHD was the first anything I've ever rooted (although jailbreaking iOS was nothing new). Supposedly, if you're familiar with Linux, Android's not that different. If you take your time to read everything carefully and follow the instructions, everything should go smoothly.

OK - So I've been at this for over 4 days and here is what I know to date:
11.3 Kindle is fairly easy to root thanks to many people around here.
Root Many will not provide you access to Google Play on the 11.3 OS Kindle
All the forums that propose solutions to getting it to work around here - don't work on 11.3
Widgets and Live Wallpapers don't seem to work if Google Play is not working
KFFirstAide will not allow you to get Google Play working on 11.3
As far as I can tell, while no one has outright said it, you can not correctly get Google Play working on an 11.3 Kindle Fire as of 12/27/13
Please correct me if I am wrong, I'd love to be told and shown otherwise.

From what I can tell your and read. That is correct. Root is fairly easy though it took me a while cause what most threads dont tell you is you need the sdk so you get the drivers working properly. Which is what I had to do. I have put all the google apps on my kindle but I get force closes a lot and can't use the market. Might be wondering how is any of this useful then? As you can still log in I just use the google apps I like example YouTube and Play Music. But as of now I have heard of some getting market to work but I have not seen a definite way to get that done.

Hi,
I bought the first version of the Kindle Fire HD (7"). I like to root it for using Google Play Store on it.
I have red, that it is possible to root the KF and to use all the prime features (videos and e-books) without any restriction.
Is this still right? Which custom ROMs support the prime features, too? (Kinology?)
Thank you!
Regards, Michel

Kinology should work as it's based on the Kindle rom, but i am not 100% sure as i never tried kinology. However Cm11 rom works for books games and music but not prime video. I just watch prime videos on my laptop. Cm11 has the android 4.4.4 and overall i think it's really good.
I hope you are talking about the 2012 Kindle fire hd 7'' version though?

Hello and thank you for your response!
CM11 is no option for me at the moment, because I bought the tablet to use prime instant video and have access to the free prime ebooks (with the normal kindle app, you do not have access to them).
So I like to know, if all the prime stuff is working after root the original rom and if it works with the kinology rom?
Yes I own the first version oder kindle fire hd 7" with cam and hdmi output.
Thank you!

Hi! If you root your Kindle Fire you will still have access to the apps and prime videos and books. I have done this and i can verify it works. However not having used kinology i can't say for sure but it is likely that it should work as well!

Yes you can do a factory reset. This will unroot your device and get rid of all the media (apps, music etc) and settings will turn back to normal.
However doing this you WON'T renew your warranty. But the benefits are clearing cache!
To reset your device got to : Settings - Device - Reset to Factory Defaults Then there should be a pop up and it will ask if you are sure.
If you want reset click "YES".

Hello,
I have a Fire 5.1.1 rooted and SlimLP installed. When I look at the Amazon appstore, there are certain apps (mostly marked "Kindle Tablet Edition") that I cannot install. On Amazon it says my device is incompatible. I know I can get these apps in the Google Play store. I am wondering if there is anything I can change on my tablet that would tell Amazon that it's okay to install those apps.
Thanks
Other than changing the os back to Fire OS no.
Thanks for the response.
I would recommend just installing the Google Play Store as it has all the apps up to date. PM me if you need help doing this.

You are completely correct, my apologies. I read these posts too quickly.
Can someone help point me in the direction of getting Netflix to work on this tablet. Its super irritating that I paid for the tablet, I pay for Netflix and I pay for my internet connection. They block rooted devices? That is bogus.
Download and install from APK Mirror
It's not that simple they block rooted devices now. You have to mask your device im not sure how to because it running 5.1.2 and nexus rom i got there with flash fire. I tried flashing magisk and it screwed up the tablet so bad i had to reflash everything

Yeah, I knew that . You are certainly not the first nor last to equate Play Store listing/delisting with availability/functionality/usability on a particular device, ROM, etc. Mainstream media doesn't help with screaming headlines and inaccurate reporting. Netflix will likely close this hole in a future update (ie: do an actual SafetyNet test vs simply delisting in Play Store). For now a simple download from APK Mirror or other trusted source gets around the 'problem'.
