The Australian version is XT1092 (the same as EU I think). I think you can unlock the bootloader and root it.
Just follow this guide, it will help you further. :good:

Just to confirm for anyone else who is reading this thread and wondering,
the Australian Motox 2014 can be bootloader unlocked using the Motorola website.
I didn't end up getting one, I got a nexus 6, however my friend got a Moto X 2014 from The Good Guys,
and I went through the procedure on their phone and it will unlock.
Thanks to X96 for your advice in this thread too.

Need A Few Questions Answered.

Okay I am wanting get a Moto X soon with my contact expiring, and I am in to custom ROMs, rooting etc, but when I search the Moto X there's information i'm confused on.
First can non developer editions be unlocked? I am with Alltel atm which is a CDMA carrier who have the regular Moto X, can that be unlocked?
They are being slowly taken over and transitioned to GSM by AT&T, I like the idea of the Moto X but if I can't both root it and unlock the boot loader I am going to skip it.
I don't have the kind of money to buy the developer edition just to use it on my current carrier.
Thank you in advanced!
The moto x DE isn't much more than the regular one. What carrier? Verizon and at&t can't be unlocked. Or rooted if they come with 4.4.2.
Honestly, if your into flashing And whatnot....you want the N5. No question.
As much as I love the X....its not a flashers phone.
If you want to unlock the bootloader, you need to get an GSM version. Get the Dev Edition version so you won't lose your warranty from unlock it.
If you want to flash rom there is no point of getting the Moto X for two reason;
1. There is almost no roms for it.
2. You lose all the features of the Moto X. If you don't want the Moto X features, there is no point of getting it, there are other phones with better specs.

Which I love because now I spend much more time actually using the phone and it's practical features rather than flashing.

Yes, but I heard with ATT and Verizon not yet for ver 4.4.2, I could be wrong. But as long as you buy unlocked version getting bootloader unlocked is very easy.

At the moment, if you're already on 4.4.2 with a Verizon or at&t retail phone....there's no way to root.

How to get root?

Hello everybody, i bought XT1058 from AT&T 4.4.4 directly from USA to Germany via simpleshoppinglink.com
And it is no way to get root or open loader. Does it mean that my Moto X no-good and i have to claim for shipping company? If it's possible to solve this trouble with root I will appreciate.

You cannot root or unlock the bootloader of an XT1058 running 4.4.4. You should have bought the XT1053 GSM Developer Edition or the TMobile Moto X if you wanted to unlock and root it.

If this is a republic wireless version (XT1094), the bootloader cannot be unlocked.

MoFo works to root but it does not disable write protection. Costs $20 and you need a paypal with a US address to buy it. I think you can fund the paypal with a prepaid card but you do need a US address.
You have to modify your images prior to flashing since write protection is not disabled.

[Q] Need help with this riddle. Any advise would be appreciated.

Is the Moto XT1097 with the android version 5.1 able to he downgraded. Thanks for any kind of answers at all. Been looking at different sites and all kind of tutorials. Still haven't found any answer to my questions. Thanks in advanced.
Here is my riddle?
I got a moto XT1097 bought from at&T in America with the 5.1 android version. How do I root it? Is it worth to even downgrade to try and root it that way . I know for a fact the boot loader cannot be unlocked. OEM Is one that can not be unlocked. Thanks for any advice, help, anthing at all. Been wracking and researching away to root it and all of my roads lead to a headache.
The AT&T xt1097 cannot be unlocked. You can root with MOFO if an updated 5.1 image has been made for your device. Since your device cannot be unlocked, you cannot downgrade.

Thanks. I do not have the 5.1 image for my device at all. When I bought the phone it was updated on the spot. I know for sure right now these versions are not rootable. Guess I am going to have to wait or root. Thanks for the help.

You can unlock your bootloader only if you have the pure edition xt1095 or verizon's model xt1096 (from what I know for sure).
Same problem here
