Does anyone else having issue with the Galaxy S5 not working with Android Auto? I have the new Pioneer 8100NEX but AA does not start up when I plug in the S5 to the head unit.
Could you read other threads and find by yourself ? it would take not longer than 3 minutes, even writing this thread took longer than finding it.
I am able to use my Samsung Galaxy S5 with Android Auto MINUS the voice/microphone capability with my AVIC-8100nex Pioneer HU.
Check the link below to see if your phone falls into the list of phones with known issues.
https://support.google.com/androidauto/#6200174
Also make sure your Pioneer stereo is updated to the latest update, ver 1.03.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge are also confirmed as not working for Android Auto.
Google has not updated their support page to reflect this yet.
Hello,
thanks for the information.
Do you have a list which devices are supported? Is the HTC One M8 supported?
Thanks!

I don't have a list of supported devices. I can only confirm devices which I have personally tested or have seend as confirmed through Android online sites.
HTC One M8 on AT&T works fine with Android Auto.
If you are having problems, please make sure you are on the latest Google Play Services, 7.3.29 (1866531-xxx) (7329448) for Android 5.0+ (Lollipop, API 21).
Support added for Samsung.

With the new Google play services patch, support for many of Samsung devices has been added. Don't know about S5 since it's an older phone but I know the S6 and s6 edge are now fully supported.

I have moved on from the Verizon S5 to the Verizon s6. However even with the up date to Google Play Service 7.3.29 (1866531-440) still did not solve my problem with AA working. Has anyone else had the same issue with the Verizon S6?
Also only the Samsung MHL/HDMI 2.0 adapter will work on S5. NOT the pioneer one.

Samsung S6 would work now, but "not available in your country" (Germany). With the Nexus 5 it works fine in the same country
Any idea?

I have been given the galaxy gear, my mate loves the note 3 but didn't want the watch,
I currently have the iPhone 5 and is the gear slightly compatible with it,
the gear is sealed so I don't want to open it, if its of no use,
I have a 5S coming in a weeks time should I be better of getting rid of it and getting a S4 or hold on and wait for the nexus as that will be running the latest version of android so will that be better off,
my last option is swapping the watch for a android watch which looks exactly the same as the omate truesmart, same specs apart from a 3mp camera and 2 screws on the sim slot,
mate bought it back from a trip to china where it cost $150
Would love to keep it but not sure about how it will work with the nexus once release, S4 being my 2nd choice but then thinking will that be a step backwards with buying a phone which has been out for a while now

Won't work with the iPhone. Will work with the Note 3, and S4 and other compatible samsung devices coming soon.
Best bet for the iPhone would be the Pebble, but even it has problems right now with iOS and staying connected to the phone.

I sold my pebble already,
So the gear will only work with samsung devices??
I thought devices with android 4.3 would be compatible,
Looks like I would need to buy a S4 then,
Bought most of the smartwatches now and the gear is the best looking one,

Yes for now until someone possibly hacks things, it only works with Samsung 4.3 phones.
I have a Pebble too and prefer the Gear by a wide margin (mostly due to looks and the SVoice capabilities and apps).

Nope, using the Note 3.
why dont you just get the note 3 or the s4 with snapdragon 800?
Mostly TouchWiz is needed, then 4.3
It will work as a Bluetooth headset with any device

I did see the I9506 / E330,
But don't see any uk sellers for that phone right now,
Note 3 is just too big for me
Hey there, I purchased this phone a few months ago and since galaxy gear was launched I was wondering if I could use it as where I live it's common to see phones being stolen when somebody sees you are using the phone while driving. However according to what I found the galaxy great won't be compatible with my phone. So is there another smart watch compatible with our phone? thanks in advance

I don't see why Pebble wouldn't work:

Actually my friend said the samsung gear would work on any samsung galaxy phones. But Samsung says its intended just for the Note 3.

Now that Note 5 is officially announced, I am trying to find some official/semi-official information on whether Note 4 Gear VR will be compatible with Note 5? Any ideas?
Thanks,
Osho
Of course not. Different sizes, they told they are about to release a. New compatible version for them
Honestly they are the same size...I don't see why it wouldn't work. My friend just got his note 5 today so I will give it a try in my Note 4 Gear VR

They never said that exactly. They told us to wait for Oculus Connect before buying a new phone, so that could mean no Gear VR for the Note 5 if they decide on announcing a VR phone.
What about Note Edge?
Will any VR work with note edge either Glaxay Vr or Innovator edition?
Any trick....!

No support for the Note Edge.
Got my note 5 and have been trying to connect it to the gear VR (Note 4 version). I got the oculus apps installed (ported from my Note 4 using Samsung smart switch), but the micro usb connector on the gear vr has a bump on it which stops anything other than the Note 4 from connecting. I looked inside the Note 4 micro usb port and I can see a notch to accommodate the bump. So Samsung succeeded in making a standardized connector into a proprietary one. *Hurray!*
Anyway, I then bought a micro usb extender cable and cut the notch into it myself. Still a no go. The extender doesn't fit on all the way (only about 4/5 the way). It seems like the female end on the Note 4 not only has a notch, but is also deeper *Hurray again!*
I tried connecting the Note 4 with the extender anyway, but couldn't get it to enter the oculus app. My last thought is to file down the bump on the gear vr connector. My only concern is that the bump is required to engage something on the Note 4. Definitely don't want to make a $200 mistake.
Has anyone tried shaving this bump down? Or has anyone heard of someone trying this?
Update: I filed down the bump and got the Note 5 to fit. Unfortunately, nothing happened. I'll try again after the official firmware update. However, I also tried the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge with no luck and those do have the firmware needed so it looks like there is a software lock preventing anything other than the Note 4 from working. The good news is that the Note 4 still fits and works :thumb: I'll be posting about this on the Techisode TV channel if anyone wants to see images and video of the process.
Update 2: video uploaded.
How about changing build prop. Wonder if it checks build prop for verification. Also wonder if there was any vr apps already pre-installed before you sidesynced anything. If so try using vr setup wizard. Then again the S6 didn't work so probably no go. Could be a kernel thing. That's what delayed the lollipop update back then for devices with gear vr software.

What a pity Galaxy Note 5 not work with Gear VR.
This isnt too bad of a Necro, but curious if anyone had any other trys with this
I don't think anyone else is going to bother now that the latest Gear VR iteration got confirmed yesterday at Oculus Connect, with Note 5 and S6e+ support along with the smaller S6 variants. At least the Note 5 can do Gear VR after all.
If anything, what might make me curious is the inverse: taking that recent Gear VR iteration, when it hits store shelves, and checking to see if the Note 4 acknowledges it at all. I'm guessing not, since it's not officially supported and the USB descriptor probably won't match up enough for the Gear VR Service to do its thing.
I hope the Note 4 works with the new gear VR. I don't like the direction Samsung is going with there product support and I don't like the Note 5. The gear VR for the Note 4 clearly has issues that have been resolved with subsequent versions. It's extremely disappointing Samsung most likely will ignore and forget the Note 4, especially even more disappointing since it's the device that started this VR evolution.
Has anybody gotten Android auto to function with the galaxy note 7? I just picked one up due to getting too many faulty HTC 10'S and I was wondering if there's any way I can get this to work on my pioneer sph-da120. This radio has been a nightmare for me because I haven't been able to get any Android phones to work on it
That radio is an AppRadio. It's not compatible with Android Auto. It is compatible with Pioneer's AppRadio app.
I doubt the Note 7 is MHL compatible, so you'd need to use mirrorlink or a Chromecast to work with that phone. I used a Chromecast for my AppRadio 2.

If you have no media audio option that's the typical problem many note 7s have. I could not get it to connect to my 2013 optima either same as any others w/ kia/hyundai as well as other cars.
The Dex Pad was announced with the S9 & S9+. It looks like a better solution for me (more portable), but according to the list of compatible devices on the Samsung website:
https://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/mobile-accessories/phones/dex-pad-ee-m5100tbegus/, it does not appear that it would work with the my Note 8.
Does anyone have any information on this?
Support after Oreo update
Was wondering the same thing. Only clarification I found is on http://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/apps/samsung-dex/
Good find--thank you! Looks like we may need to wait for Oreo for the Dex Pad to work with our Note 8s.
There is a link in OP. If you scroll all way down and read the fine print, It clearly says:
1HDMI cable, monitor, keyboard and mouse sold separately. To utilize DeX (Galaxy Desktop) it requires either DeX Pad or DeX Station, both are sold separately. Works with compatible devices. Screen images simulated. Certain apps may not run or require license(for purchase) on Samsung DeX. Dex Pad supports Galaxy S9/S9+ only. (Galaxy S8/S8+ and Note8 may be supported later with OS update).

It looks like the pad will only work if you have Android O, so there is going to be a bit of a wait there.
