[Q] Battery Reduces From Full to 80% After Charging? - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a new Moto G 2nd gen a week back and I am experiencing this problem from a few days ago.
The battery reduces from 100% to 80% or 75% in minutes after unplugging from the wall socket. WiFi and data were turned off and the brightness was around 20%.
I asked around on the internet and the suggestion received was to calibrate the battery. Is this the solution or is it a battery problem?

The only best solution is to recalibrate your battery using apps found on playstore.....but this method requires ROOT which will cause a warranty void.
The only non NON ROOT method available is discussed on this site :- http://www.androidpit.com/how-to-calibrate-the-battery-on-your-android-device
Hopefully this should fix your battery......:good:

My suggestion would be to let battery run out of juice completely. Let it power off by itself, wait a few minutes and just connect the charger without turning the device on manually. Let it charge to 100%, turn the device on, and see if the issue persists.

Let me quote Monty Pythons argument-scene: YES THERE IS! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQFKtI6gn9Y)
You can charge the Moto G offline without any trouble. The only times i see that this would not work is when the moto g is connected to the pc via usb. There seems to be some problems. But with a normal charger i never had any trouble to charge the moto g without turning it on.

Open up the battery menu & tap the battery graph.... What do you see? If there's any battery drain, you'll see a thick bar in the "awake" section... "WiFi" is on a lot or all the time? Since you got it a week ago, and assuming you aren't rooted, "scanning always available" is ticked in your WiFi settings. Untick it.
If you still have lots of drain, in that particular menu, check which app is eating a lot of battery... If its anything other than screen, phone or android system, *boom*, you found your culprit.
PS - All Moto phones (E, G, G2, X & X2) have a fast discharge between 100 to 80%, but it'll stay at 60-50% for hours on end (with usage).

Tried it. Didn't work at all. Battery drained by 13%. Also, the battery drains drastically during sleep time, even with battery saver on.

That sudden drop in battery @ 9am.... That's not normal!! Check if you have Google Play Services running a LOT or something related to any other app. If nothing, replace your phone (hoping you haven't rooted and still have warranty)

[Q] Battery Drn

I bought a Galaxy Tab 7 Plus on Friday and spent the weekend adding movies, music, etc..So far, I love the device.
Last night I set it on my desk with about 86% battery left but did not plug it in and did not turn it off. I simply let it sleep...
When I got up this AM, it was unresponsive as the batter had completely drained. I have no way of knowing why this happened since the device went off completelya nd any programs I may have left running were no longer running of course.
Is this normal for an unusde device overnight? Anyone else experience this? Should I return it?
Thank You!

I suppose you also let the WiFi and BT run also ? If yes, then it's absolutely normal If no, you should check what apps you had running in the background... and as a golden rule : use the night to recharge and the day to use it.
Yes thanks. I did leave WiFi on but no BT. I typically do charge my devices overnight but just forgot last night so the batter drain was a little worrisome. I will try it again tonight without WiFi on and see if that makes a difference. Thank You!

Hi,
Not the slightest idea What apps are you running ? What is running in the background ? Basically, I've never heard about ABD having a battery issue, unless your battery is damaged somehow. Maybe you should try a battery-widget to check the system on battery-hogs and/or uninstall everything the reinstalling one by one testing battery lifetime.
Cheers
Hi,
my left my P6200 to charge like 5 hours but it still won't reach 100% full. its only close to 85%. I start charging it around 20%.
Device is off when charging.
any idea how long does it takes to fully charge it?
and another thing is the area around the Sim card and Memory card slots area heats up at the back cover quite easily when use.
anyone experience these?

HTC ONE serious battery draining problem

Hello, i have my htc one a couple of weeks now and from the first time i noticed paranormal battery drain activity!
So first i tried to turn everything off it didn't help, more analyticaly:
Energy Saving Mode = On
Beats Audio = on
Brightness = 1st of the three brightness modes
Wifi = off
GPS = off
Location Services = off
Accounts Sync = all off
HSDPA = on and off after done using data
Apps running in the background = i closed each and every one immediately after done using them
Blinkfeed = completely off
Then I tried to reset battery memory by completely let the battery discharge and recharge overnight twice, i have seen no improvement.
When i surf or facebook i can see the battery meter to drop down 1% almost every 2 minutes or so, some times less with the above mentioned settings.
Also i have noticed that in standby with everything off there's still significant battery drainage.
I kept the best for last, just 10 minutes ago while connected on my computer via usb cable, fully charged at 100% with green led on top for more than an hour i just did a reboot, and after the reboot with the usb cable still connected i saw the battery 99% ?????? After what, a reboot and still connected to the usb and charging ? WTF?
Device info:
HTC one 32 gb bought from Vodafone Greece
android version 4.2.2 stock
software version 2.24.401.1
kernel version 3.4.10-g445d072
On top of that, it seems that my device also has the blue ghosting noise camera bug on low light enviroments.
My emotions are like; I love and hate this phone at the same time.
I'm afraid using my phone's capabilities due to serious battery drainage!!
Any thoughts ?

it depends on how you use your phone and how much time it has been turned on. If your phone has been on for more than 24 hours then 3 hours of screen is fine. But yeah maybe you should do a factory reset and install gsam to monitor your battery stats and the apps that are sucking your battery. I have noticed that facebook chat drains the battery too fast.

I think you live in a sunny place, if you do than 2.5 hours is sort of normal at full brightness, if you want 5 or longer you need to set the brightness way lower but I think that sort of dimishes the beauty of the screen, enjoy it on auto-brightness

What nonsense?!
70% of my screen time is medium. I rarely use my phone in the sun.
I usually get around 2.5 screen/<14 total hrs. That's not normal? My phone's not set up right? Yay!
Or maybe it's the facebook. My auto sync is off, but I will disable the FB apps and see how that goes.
I actually do have GSAM, and it tells me that my kernel uses ~25% of my power. Android system is usually ~15%. Is that normal? If so, I may try a backup/reset.
Screen uses ~10% of power and main app is Chrome, with little to no Maps/Voice in a day.
A quick report after factory reset seems like that my battery is somewhat normal
1day 7hours and I still have 34% remaining
Use: half standby half normal use
I have the Dev Edition 64Gb One and I'm getting just 12 hours! I have autobrightness on, Greenify taking care of all the apps I don't use so frequently, not using maps/location services. I noticed each time I enter recovery, I have like 4% less than what my phone says and if I turn it on I have now what the bootloader said! Weird, and I was shocked to see this when I red a lot of people were having fantastic battery life.
Also, as I'm so lucky, mine has the blue/red thing in the camera, and a small gap in the top. It seems I got the All-(Problems)-In-One One..

Try with InsertCoin + Elemental kernel, with no pocketdetection or sweep2wake etc. and the recommended undervolting in the aroma installation
That gives me like 5.5 hours of screen with the phone turned on for 20+ hours and wifi: 6+hours, all of this with an average usage
hello again I noticed a rather peculiar thing regarding battery drainage.
couple of days ago when I reported that my battery was somewhat normal I had my phone charged with energy saving mode off I charged this way two times since the factory reset. Everything was normal I was able to get one+ day of use. Yesterday though I charged my phone with energy saving mode ON and I immediately noticed abnormal battery drain as before.
Can anyone with battery drain problem try to fully charge their phone with energy saving mode off and post their results?
I have a strong feeling that there is a bug or something.
My problem is, the phone is fully charged. i disconnect the charger and a few seconds later the battery is between 96% and 93%. I connect it to the charger, charge it back to 100% (led green) disconnect it, and the same happens again.
I already let the Phone discharge to 1%. The same happening again.
Someone any idea? thx
Same problem here, just sent it in to HTC for camera repair, got it back. Then battery problems. Sent it back because of the battery, still crappy. 32GB Unlocked. I get 10 hours at most on idle, everything off.

Go to setting>mobile data>network mode select something else than LTE and reboot your phone. Then select back Lte and reboot your phone.I had the same problem. I found this on other forums and this helped me a lot.
I have a HTC One 32 gb Three UK.
I have exactly the same problem with the high drainage.. before I could get easy 5-6 hours screen on throughout the day. now it even don't lasts a half day.. no change in my apps or settings/kernel.. really weird problem. I think it has to do with the hotness of the Phone and the purple camera fault. Don't know what to do anymore!

[Q] Battery or soft problem

I don't know how to explain this... Hope you'll understand me. So my phone was full charged so i put out the charger and i go to school. After 6 hours i came back and my battery was at 50%. I was surprised but when i tried to call someone my phone died. So when i starded battery was at 3%. Same thing today, i put out my phone from charger after 2 hours i tried to do 2 photos and *bam* died - 3% battery.
There is a screenshot so you can see what i mean. Can you tell me what is the problem? Hope you understand me
wow, that's a HUGE drain. I recommend installing a wakelock detector to see what is causing that huge drain on your phone
This is how you would go about using the app to find the issue.
1) Install the app from google play "Wakelock Detector-Save Battery"
2) Open it
3) Once it opens, reboot your phone
4) Once it reboots, leave it for 5 mins
5) Unlock your phone and open the wakelock detector
6) Check the bar at the top to see if your phone was asleep and how long it was asleep for (should be around 4 mins)
If it is 4 mins or above, then your phone should not be having battery drain, ensure you are swiping away apps after use.
If your phone was awake the whole time, then you will be able to see what is causing this and you should uninstall this app
Also, you should enable the power saving option to maximise battery life.
Make sure you charge the phone while its turned off, apps can interfere with the charging process while the phone is one, this could also be the cause of your drain, so turn off and then charge.

Ok, there is no specific app that is causing that your problem. So do you charge while your mobile is on, or off?
Also, is your phone rooted? If it is, try re-calibrating your battery.

Battery Life - Is this normal?

I recently picked up a Moto G 2014 for a family member since it was on sale and I'm having a bit of trouble, at least I think I am. This person hardly uses the phone, doesn't make calls every day but putters around on it, listens to music occasionally. Real basic use stuff. The battery only seems to last a day. In trying to diagnose/troubleshoot it without rooting or voiding warranty, it seems like it's draining excessively. Just sitting with all the apps closed on the home screen, it's burning up about 180-210 mA according to Ampere. Now, my LG G2 reliably uses 30mA on the home screen without apps running. Apples & oranges, I know but shouldn't the value on the Moto G be lower? Does anyone else use Ampere and have similar readings? With the little use this phone sees, I'd imagine people that use it regularly have to charge multiple times a day to keep the phone alive and I can't see the Motorola engineers doing that. I've tried closing and disabling apps that aren't used and there doesn't seem to be much that goes on. So I'm not sure if this is normal or if something's wrong. I have done all the OTA updates and also tried a factory reset, it made no difference. I'm tempted to root & install the official CM but if there's something wrong with the phone, I want to get it fixed through Motorola first.
Any ideas for this Moto newbie? Thanks in advance.
Here's some screenshots of the battery stats in case anyone's curious:

I'm getting 160-170 mA after clearing all the recent apps with CM 12.1. But battery life is not bad at all. About 1 day with 5+hours of SoT or 2-3days with 3+ hours of SoT. So I don't really care.
Ps.: I don't think that 30mA is enough for phone to run with screen ON. Maybe in sleep mode.. 30mA is way too small value. I also found an article about power consumption of smartphones: http://arxiv.org/pdf/1212.1896.pdf

That sounds significantly better than what my Moto G is getting. I doubt the phone sees 2 hours of SoT in a day but the battery barely lasts a day. I'm hoping it's just hoggy apps and that CM will clean things up.

Ps.: I don't think that 30mA is enough for phone to run with screen ON. Maybe in sleep mode.. 30mA is way too small value. I also found an article about power consumption of smartphones: http://arxiv.org/pdf/1212.1896.pdf

I think you're right actually. Looking at the Ampere stats, it shows 30mA as the max draw, even after opening several apps and running. I thought this seemed right for idle but it's always stuck there under load.
Actually I had a similar problem with my Moto G on stock. Did you use GPS? Because when I turn on and off gps on my phone it remains ON and drains my battery pretty fast, until I restart my phone. So whenever I use GPS I have to turn it off in settings and restart my phone in order to turn it off.
OK so if u really want a decent battery life. Just turn of sync, location and keep scanning In advanced WiFi settings.
Since its showing Google services as culprit, turning sync off would probably solve the issue.

Poor Battery Life - HELP!

So, over the last week, I have noticed such poor battery life. My battery is not performing as it once did.
I recently downloaded Power Shade, so I decided to disable it (not uninstall it). It's not listed in the Play Store at this time.
I have noticed that Android System uses a lot of my battery, while my battery life drops like a rock while I have my screen on. I never have my screen brightness passed 25% (and it is usually less).
Please take a look at these screenshots. What is going wrong?

It says your phone has been on the battery for over 15 hours.. I don't see how that's considered bad? That's pretty much what I get.
Install BBS, grant permissions and check what is messing your battery. That is awful SOT

Well, I turned on Power Shade and left my phone untouched for one hour. My battery dropped 5%.
Then, I turned it off and left my phone alone for another hour and it went down only 2%.
So, that's the culprit?
I'm not sure if your battery drain is regarding normal usage or standby time.
If it's a standby drain, I would suggest installing Naptime app from the playstore. Grant the permissions via ADB, your standby battery life would be great.
I've experienced a really good battery mileage after installing the app.
Make sure you enable to aggressive doze option and keep the app out of power save or the sleeping apps option.
Also, try turning off Location and see if Android System percentage goes down.

Is this tough to do?
I had Location set to "High Accuracy" - I have now changed that to "Battery Saving."
Better?

The naptime app is a piece of cake if you have root access, if your phone is not rooted, the app will suggest some steps you can follow to allow it function properly. For the non-root method, you will require a computer and ADB (Android Debug Bridge) to be installed in the computer.
If you kept location service to battery saving then maybe it might help save battery juice.

I think I will stick with the Location setting change.
I'm also finding TuneUp Master Pro to be helping.
What do you think of BetterBatteryStats?
Later today, I can post screenshots.
Right now, I am at 63% battery left with 2 hours of screen time. (Note, much of this has been with super low battery brightness.)

Do you have certain settings that you think I should really have (without any repercussions) that you could screenshot me?
What do you think of these settings?
About 7 hours were not on Wi-Fi...

Hey,
I think TuneUp Master Pro might help you, I haven't actually used BetterBatteryStats.
But I saw your screenshot, one thing I noticed is that you keep bluetooth switched on (Android Wear)?, If so then I think maybe that is your issue (I'm saying this cause I have a Gear 2 connected to my Note8, when the device is connected it takes some amount of battery). Try to use your device without bluetooth for maybe 1 day and see if there is any improvement in Battery Life and Screen On Time.
I would suggest other basic options like:
1. Turning off Location when you don't need it
2. Turning off Bluetooth
3. Turning off Mobile Data (or keeping the network mode to 3G/2G)
4. Delete useless apps, if you have apps like BetterBatterStats, I think they can monitor app data and battery usage.
5. Goto Settings>Device Maintenance>Battery, scroll down till the end and select "always sleeping apps", select apps that you want only to wake up when you open the apps. Go back and remove useless or unwanted apps under the unmonitored apps section (This option is right before the always sleeping apps one).
Also try doing a cache clear from Android Recovery (Be Careful when selecting the options):
1. Turn off your phone
2. Hold the Volume Up, Bixby and Power Button simultaneously until you see the boot screen, as soon as you see that screen release your fingers from the buttons
3. Once the recovery options come, use your volume buttons to move up and down, and the power button to select an option.
4. press volume down and select the clear cache option, press the power button, use the volume down button again to select "Yes" and press the power button.
5. It will clear Cache
6. Restart your, its the first option in the menu.
This might helps the phone clear cache files and maybe fix your battery issue.
It would also be good if you install this app, after installing goto the "Personal" tab and check if your battery health is good, mine is 91%. You should also be in that range or maybe 80%. If the percentage is bad then maybe I think you would require a battery replacement. Correct me if I am wrong guys, but just a suggestion.
One more thing, is your phone rooted or having a custom rom?, if yes I suggest to try Naptime and other rooted battery saving apps like Greenify.
If not then I think you and me will have to hope that Android 9.0 Pie would have some improvement, sadly I have been a Samsung user for 4 to 5 years, this isn't usually the case with Samsung OS updates .
Based on this, I don't think I have anything rogue going on, do you?
(Notice that I didn't use my phone at all during this time, nor did I leave home.)
OK, I have attached stats for my phone from today.
Please take a look.
When not using my phone, my battery only dropped about 2% per hour, which is great. But when my screen was on, I seemed to have lost a lot of power. I can't even get 4 hours of screen on time.
What would cause tis to happen? I barely have my screen brightness at 20%.
Does this tell you more? It shows battery usage with cell phone signal.
(I was off Wi-Fi for about the last 6 hours of the day.)
Does this show a slower battery drop with a better signal?

Chrome and facebook drain lot compared to others. Are you putting them (and others) to sleep using device management? Also, 2.7% drain per hour isn't fantastic. You can drop that to approx 1% if you tame enough things on your phone.

2% per hour for rooted phone is very bad. In 10 hours you loose 20% battery, looks very bad too. If you open the 4g you loose 40%. I loose 2% every 10 hours and i have 95% kernel deep sleep. Your System have big drain in first picture. Debloat your rom and fix your bad wakelocks with amplify and with appops. Possible change your rom and your kernel if you are not rooted. If you are not rooted god bless you, or read the xda threads to learnd about the phones. All your apps have very bad wakeup issues. This apps run all the time and dont leave the phone to sleep. You use malware bytes into android.... the linux is not windows 10. You dont need this crap apps.
