[Rom Review]AOSB

Plain and simple, I'd highly suggest this rom to anyone looking for a new rom. I've always love super roms (roms that mash together features of more than one rom). I've been running it for a couple days now and am loving every second of it. Many parts of this reminds me of PAC rom, but for some reason I'd pick this over PAC anyday, it just has more feeling for some reason.
The Good:
Full LED control. I was so very disappointed in stock android when I saw what the LED can REALLY do (you can pick almost any color under the sun for battery alerts or notifications that you can set up for per app basis)
AOSB in black (EXACTLY the same as PAC in black)
All CM11 features.
You select how many steps there are in the volume control
Good battery life(Can play a lot of games throughout school and it'll be at around 4% when I get home from school)
Slim Recent Apps
Split view(Even though I don't know what you'd use it for on a phone)
Full nav. bar/ring editing support.
The Bad
No Paranoid Android type control of the UI, which I was kind of hoping for, just a type of it through a preinstalled Xposed app
Outdated Xposed and Kernel tweaker, but since their modified they can't be updated from GPlay store. I ended up uninstalling them from system then reinstalled them from GPlay store, but was kind of irritating that they aren't newest versions.
Poor built in kernel. If you want kernel features at all, you'd have to find a good CAF kernel out there (I'm running Chaos Kernel v11.1)
Long hold back to kill app doesn't seem to work
No ability to have the menu button EVER show up unless you manually add it to nav bar, but then the buttons look weird since it makes all the buttons closer and it plain looks weird for it not to stick to the right or left side.
Doesn't get very dark(I also noticed this in stock, but was hoping that there was some change here, but no luck)
Google Camera's HDR+ makes the app crash (Google camera also doesn't automatically install over built in camera app)
All in all I love this rom, but it is a little rough around the edges. NOTE: I don't know if it's just me or what, but I had problems with supersu, but I'm not sure if it was the rom or me just accidentally messing up stuff

This convinced me to keep the stock version No bugs at all, and all the features that it containes are working.

I come from HTC and decided to get my N5 specifically to avoid bootloader locks and get loads & loads of custom ROMs, after I actually bought it, I completely forgot about that, I haven't even rooted my device yet. Stock rom is perfect.

Well if you ever do want to keep stock, but want some features of a custom room, you can always get the gravity box module for xposed, or get multirom so you cab still have your custom rom; just a suggestion

Me too, after doing a whole lot of flashing etc. with my Galaxy S2.

That's what I'm planning to do. Just rooting for extra features, but keeping it stock. The benefits of custom roms are great, but I'm done with bugs and features not functioning as they should.

[Q] Is it worth it to install cyanogenmod?

Just a simple question that may help some others like me. Is it worth it to install cyanogenmod and install another rom with the new kitkat update coming?

Depends on your tech savvy. Personally I don't mess around with roms when I have everything I need in stock, especially on my primary phone. Sometimes you also mess up your connectivity to your carrier (this is called EFS partition, back it up!). I've messed with Xperia phones before and I like the stock roms on them. I say don't put cm, unless you HATE your stock rom. Even then you can just theme it with Xposed if you're on that level or use a 3rd-party launcher for beginners and of course you gotta root it Rooting is more for system tweaks tho, only after you install Xposed you can do theming.

Personally, I disliked Cyanogen mod because I was so used to the look of my phone. Cyanogen mod changes the entire feel and asthetics of your phone to increase its efficiency. I personally couldn't put up with it, but it may be different for you! I would just stick to stock rom unless you intend to stretch your phone to its absolute limit, in which case Cyanogen mod will help you!

camera quality will be lost, battery life is the same like stock, im using it since jan, sometimes annoying bugs are present..
there is no efs on sony and there are no problems with those like on samy or lg.

I went to cyanogenmod last week, it's fine so far and has many features which can make you excited. the CM based ROMs are super fast and smooth, them can give you another feeling comparing with the stock.
If you want to install CM, you need to unlock your Bootloader, it means you will lost your Bravia Engine forever unless you relock it

As far as I am concerned, I always want to explore something new and XDA forum is better than SONY. believe me

Sony fw is actually based on AOSP/CM itself.. But if u r bored with stock, u are always welcome to try CM ROMs.. They provide their own features, customizations and a different theme engine.. Plus CM11 actually gives u more battery backup and better RAM management.. Hence an upgrade in the performance level.. But both are good in its own ways.. :good:

Only time I've moved to cm is when the manufacturer stops development for the phone, or if the standard rom is just bad. I had a Moto Atrix that was worth the move to cm. The Xperia is fine without cm and I can't think of anything useful it would add.

its nice to take a break from sony's ui. ive tried PAC and PA and some others for a month or so, in the end i ended up going back to sony because CM nightlies are too buggy atm.
its really up to you, both offers slightly different things, CM has more themes to choose from and like i said its a nice break from sonys ui if you got bored of it.

Roms and feature question

My dilema is that with 4.4.2 there are roms that have xperia camera installed and all other perks, but in 4.4.4 there are more new options including double tap to wake and turn phone around to wake and stuff like that. As fas as i know i cant have sony camera on cm or paranoid, so what rom is best for you guys, what do you suggest? that i stay on 4.4.4 and have bad photos, or maybe there is a way to improve camera in 4.4.4 or move back to 4.4.2. Also in xperia roms when i change dpi the xperia luncher shrinks so badly that does not look good on 320dpi, it just stays on 4 icons in a row. Any advice would be welcome

btw.stock/based on stock roms the best idea to feel your phone is SONY!!!

About the launcher problem, you could use existenz rom and choose the launcher layout you prefer in aroma installation.
Additionally you could install xzkernel for using dt2w or s2w.

All that tweak stuff is kernel related so it will depend on your needs. As for the title, agreed unless you want a sleepy eyed Mod coming in and shutting it down..

ps: cant seem to get this thing working, menu is still shrinked up and calling app is messed up
i came to concusion to use onr of the stock roms with nova luncher

Well,for me the stock rom is the best.Rooted and with Xposed installer for mods. Try Google camera on Play store for pictures...

Anyone not liking Lollipop or not impressed with the first releases of L for our M7 devices? I see plenty who are praising the product. I myself really like the sleak Material design, but it might be my imagination but L doesn't seem quite as smooth as 4.4.2 and a few apps hang up here and there, the capacitive key light is a problem (as we all know).
Just wondered if anyone else has gone back to KitkKat, whether that be aosp, gpe or Sense and for what reason?

I too am enjoying the material design 'overhaul' and to be honest have been spending so long with 'feature rich' ROMs it's nice to go back to the basics. I'm missing some of my favourite staples like the traffic monitor and lock screen targets but overall I'm really enjoying Lolipop.
Features I'm loving:
- Location based security
- Built in 'quiet hours'
- Built in battery analysis
- Recent apps overhaul (just now getting used to not closing all open apps)

I have long ago gone back to 4.4.4. Not only am I not a fan of the new temp Material remake but the issues with over all volume decrease and other issues are not worth it. Not to mention the really stupid in call screen. Not sure what they were thinking there.

Did you go back to stock GPE Zelendel?
Glad to hear there are a few not happy with L.

No I went back to DU as it was my daily driver. Gpe is to bland for me with not enough options.

Also went back from lollipop to Sense 4.4.3
I prefer Sense UI and I'm not a huge fan of the new lollipop design. Some changes are great and some others I don't like at all.
Xposed framework incompatibility with ART is probably the main reason why I reverted back to Kitkat.

That may be a lasting issue. From some to not I have heard he is hardly working on it and is not really motivated to finish it as the direction Google is going is locking the system down for things like xposed.

I used Lollipop for few days because I had that mute call bug and only thing I liked is recent apps. Everything else is just not to my liking. I was so happy when I found out about mute call fix zip ?

I wonder if Lollipop roms will be less customisable than previous google releases?
Yeah I can see me switching back to KK at some point. We can always have the Material look with a theme engine. I miss the customisation that comes with KK and even Jellybean roms.

Many are working on bringing the features to 5.0. Some are doing it wrong and just trying to port them over instead of redoing them to work properly but the features are coming. I wouldnt want to rush it mainly with google pushing so many updates on a daily basis. I mean we are already up to what 5.0.2r7 with 5.1 rumored to be out next month. The material design is just like the whole Holo deal. IT will pass. Google is even changing the color pallet after many complaints. So That is not a big deal really. Well unless your an app developer that made your app in the material design then come 6.0 or 7 they will have to redo it again to match what ever google decides to do then.

It is Dirty unicorns, I also use Slim. I did use AICP for a while but have moved away from roms that use CM as a base.

I am sure Lollipop roms will get better and better once devs get their heads around the software, start adding features. I am sure it's a very small percentage of phone users who even have 5.0 on their phones, a good portion are probably still Jellybean.
Myself, going back to a KK rom for now until the L roms mature a little more.

Anyone finding the aosp (inc cm) Lollipop roms better than GPE for stability, battery longevity etc?

I myself am liking the taste of the lollipop myself, tastes like strawberries runs much smoother than KK, battery life is great, all my apps are working, no faults with it what so ever.
The few issues I think many people are having with it and a lot seem to be complaining about, is HTC themselves haven't listened to anyone, the issues are with sense that HTC bang on top of Google's Android, the widgets are still to small and don't come right down, however there is a mod to fix this, cant stand the ugly white and black background on the clock and weather widget, im using Chronus for my clock and weather at the moment, I do miss xposed but not enough to revert back, there are for now alternatives for what I used xposed for, they just take a bit of hunting down.
The sense version of Lollipop is still a baby at the moment and Dev's are working on their apps already for Lollipop including xposed, it will come.
You have to remember that the ROM which LabFooter posted a few days ago is still very much in beta stage. its a leak and still in testing, any issues found can still be fixed yet.

Anyone else tried Lollipop and gone back to Kitkat or even Jellybean, and why? Just trying to keep the conversation going on this one as it's early days with Lollipop and all that. Figured there are many who like or dislike the operating system.

I did. Lollipop is nice to look at, but IMO it's just that. It's still too buggy for me to use it. Back to good old KK and enjoying every minute

Took the words right out of my mouth, lollipop looks and feels real nice. But the poor functionality due to all the bugs it's just not usable as an every day Rom :good:

Dont' fix if ain't broken.
Besides not so many new functions I could use in Lolipop.
I prefer trustworthy KK over buggy loli.

Rom & Mod Reccomendations (Just got a Z1)

Hi,
I'm picking up a Xperia Z1 C6903 for a friend. She basically checks email and takes photos with her phone, so Camera/Video and Battery Life are priority.
Can anyone please recommend a good Rom and/or Mods for me.
I usually get more obscure phones for myself (never had a Sony) without so many options of mods and custom roms, so its a bit harder than I'm used to to sort through the pages on XDA... there so much to go through here so any help to narrow things down a bit for me would be appreciated.

If you /she is not big fan of custom ROM (aospa, paranoid, CM, DU, PAC etc.) I would say just root the phone and use stock ROM.
Stock ROM is best for battery and photos together.
Rooting is good in case she wants Xposed and all the modules.
Don't unlock the bootloader since this will remove some propriety code for display and camera.
I haven't used any stock ROM so can't talk about them.

Thanks, I often find custom roms better for battery life. And can see that there's a few camera mods available. So I assumed a custom rom (either with a Stock based or not?) and camera mod would be the way to go? Also, is the stock camera app the best performer (in terms of image quality?)

Really can't see any need to meddle with the standard rom.
The Xperia range of phones all have outstanding battery life and excellent photo/video software built in as standard.

And there seems to be a few scripts which claim to improve battery life & speed like Fly-on-Mod...
I guess i'm just not used to stock being the best option!!! I cant help but want to change something

If you want to meddle then root and Xposed would be the simplest option.
But given the original criteria are already met by the standard rom and the fact that it's not your phone I still can't see the need.
Do you really want your friend coming to you with every minor niggle they can dream up, thinking that you caused it by modifying their phone?
Just make sure they upgrade to 5.1.1 which is due out any day now.

I've got it running stock KK, rooted, locked bootloader with xposed & dual recovery.
I decided not to update to LP until 5.1.1 is out (any day now it seems...?) due to slow downs in 5.0.2
From what I can see I'll have to update with Flashtool (if I can find the "Customized AU" file) or updated via Sony PC Companion and re-root & re-install recovery.
will both methods will result in a data wipe?
When it does come out - is there a way to update without loosing here data/settings? & will current rooting methods still work (I used easy root?)
