Roms and feature question - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My dilema is that with 4.4.2 there are roms that have xperia camera installed and all other perks, but in 4.4.4 there are more new options including double tap to wake and turn phone around to wake and stuff like that. As fas as i know i cant have sony camera on cm or paranoid, so what rom is best for you guys, what do you suggest? that i stay on 4.4.4 and have bad photos, or maybe there is a way to improve camera in 4.4.4 or move back to 4.4.2. Also in xperia roms when i change dpi the xperia luncher shrinks so badly that does not look good on 320dpi, it just stays on 4 icons in a row. Any advice would be welcome

Change the title mate! the moderators will think you ask About which best rom!
btw.stock/based on stock roms the best idea to feel your phone is SONY!!!
No idea about the launcher problem...
Xperia™ Z (C6602) with tapatalk

About the launcher problem, you could use existenz rom and choose the launcher layout you prefer in aroma installation.
Additionally you could install xzkernel for using dt2w or s2w.

All that tweak stuff is kernel related so it will depend on your needs. As for the title, agreed unless you want a sleepy eyed Mod coming in and shutting it down..

thanks for reminding me, didnt realy know how to title it. Yea you guys are right, some usefull info in here, ill work with it. I was even considering exchanging xperia z for nexus 5, but the photos on nexus 5 are realy bad, but software support is the fastest
ps: cant seem to get this thing working, menu is still shrinked up and calling app is messed up
i came to concusion to use onr of the stock roms with nova luncher

Well, for me the stock rom is the best.Rooted and with Xposed installer for mods. Try Google camera on Play store for pictures...

[Q] Worth rooting and getting a CM mod?

Hello dear XDA peeps!
On my previous android phones I felt the need to root and and install other roms because they where slow and had so much crapware on them them but with the lovely Xperia Z I felt the need yet now I'm getting curious tho. Can the the be faster, have more features, better battery and such with a new rom? Will I notice any any changes?
Another question, I read that 4.3 is on its way, both the official and the CM one. How close is that?
Thanx in advance!
about the first question i dont know im still stock
and 4.3 i guess in 2 - 3 months

I don't think it will take that long. There is a working CM on 4.3 in ZL-forum.
Sony Xperia ZL C6503, rooted, 4.2.2 Stock
I wondering about the existing 4.3 roms now, wonder if they are worth trying?
The 4.3 superdroid rom works really well and the pac rom 4.3 is only a couple of days away.. All in all i have noticed battery life improvements the focal camera is superb and all the things you can tweak now a days is definitely worth leaving the stock experience behind and never looking back..
Sent from my C6603
I'm on a CM based ROM (Asylum), it's very smooth with no lags anywhere and the battery life is as good as stock with my usage pattern.
The only real downside is that the camera isn't that good compared to the Sony stock one. I've tried out the focal camera and am not that impressed in terms of image quality. Hopefully there will be some improvements.
Also, none of the sound mods work that well with CM ROMs.
I suggest stick to the Sony firmware for the time being if the sound and camera are important to you.
I don't think 4.3 will bring a vastly different user experience.
Edit: viper4android seems to be working on 4.2.2 and below. Haven't tried it though

Ok thanks for the info
Ive read about the sound improvement mods but Ive been to lazy to try any of them. Is there a big difference in sound quality from the non-modded stock rom and the sound mods??

[Q] FXP's Cyanogenmod 11 (4.4 KitKat)

Did anyone tried this ROM, how is the performance? Wi-Fi and Bluetooth works?
Sent from my Xperia Sola using xda premium
Seriously, anyone?
It's quite OK. But sound was broken, so it's unusable as a daily driver.
Hmm, planning to get a Xperia T because the CM support, is worth it?
Sent from my Xperia Sola using xda premium
why you not simply take a look into the dev section?
this will answer all your questions
we have
- a nice miui v5
- official omni rom support (already daily usable kitkat 4.4)
- many nice stock sony ui roms
and we will get official sony jb4.3 in december....and MAYBE 4.4....sony confirmed they will test official kitkat on XT.
just look around....from my feeling i wouldnt count so much on cm...i read about many many nightlies had broken stuff (kernel etc.)
but maybe a cm user can tell you more clear details about cm

Better get a XZ, it's newer and I've seen it new for 333€...
I don't really like the stock ROMs because of the apps pre-installed, I like the stability but it has a lot of applications that I don't use. Cyanogenmod has a lot of great apps that comes with like Apollo. And I like the stock Google style, really nice, specially KitKat.
The Omnirom seems nice, gotta flash someday.
And I don't have enough budget to afford a ZX. Got a Xperia Sola, so the T is like a better version of it for me.
That's my opinion, if I'm wrong, feel free to correct me.

I really prefer Stock Base ROMs, for battery life,Walkman & cyber shot.

I can't afford a Z1. And I don't need such a monster telephone, I just call, send SMS, install apps, sometimes flashing and app development.
The T is the most accessible for me and it cover all my needs. I asked if the CM11 worked in this phone before buying it.

Yep I recommended this to my friend. Much newer device. Tiny bit bulkier than the T but with many new stuff like default transparent nav bars and also an interesting LED light at the bottom. And of course as mentioned, longer, better support. If you can save up a few more bucks.. the Z/ZR would be the choice.
And regarding your original question, for the T, CM from FXP isn't doing so well. Major bug reports.

The SP seems a better choice to me, I don't need a Z, too much for my needs.
Thanks dude.

No sync with FXP247
Hi,
anybody also has the problem that syncing does not work wit CM11 FXP247? I don't get my contacts, also google maps is not working, no maps are loaded...!?
I like the T : it's camera is very useful thanx to the 13 MP, and it has already lots of internal memory. Besides, they are roughly the same from the configuration.
As there's not really an update planned for "old" phones like the T, I updated it, and as of today I'm on Kitkat, a custom made Omnirom. I had already the CM 10.1.3 stable and was yesterday quite frustrated with the bad built of 10.2 RC1.. And as I have the same bug in two different CM versions, I didn't want to try out another for the moment.

Depends on your tech savvy. Personally I don't mess around with roms when I have everything I need in stock, especially on my primary phone. Sometimes you also mess up your connectivity to your carrier (this is called EFS partition, back it up!). I've messed with Xperia phones before and I like the stock roms on them. I say don't put cm, unless you HATE your stock rom. Even then you can just theme it with Xposed if you're on that level or use a 3rd-party launcher for beginners and of course you gotta root it Rooting is more for system tweaks tho, only after you install Xposed you can do theming.
Hope this helps,

Personally, I disliked Cyanogen mod because I was so used to the look of my phone. Cyanogen mod changes the entire feel and asthetics of your phone to increase its efficiency. I personally couldn't put up with it, but it may be different for you! I would just stick to stock rom unless you intend to stretch your phone to its absolute limit, in which case Cyanogen mod will help you!
camera quality will be lost, battery life is the same like stock, im using it since jan, sometimes annoying bugs are present..
there is no efs on sony and there are no problems with those like on samy or lg.

I went to cyanogenmod last week, it's fine so far and has many features which can make you excited. the CM based ROMs are super fast and smooth, them can give you another feeling comparing with the stock.
If you want to install CM, you need to unlock your Bootloader, it means you will lost your Bravia Engine forever unless you relock it

As far as I am concerned, I always want to explore something new and XDA forum is better than SONY. believe me
Sony fw is actually based on AOSP/CM itself.. But if u r bored with stock, u are always welcome to try CM ROMs.. They provide their own features, customizations and a different theme engine.. Plus CM11 actually gives u more battery backup and better RAM management.. Hence an upgrade in the performance level.. But both are good in its own ways.. :good:
Only time I've moved to cm is when the manufacturer stops development for the phone, or if the standard rom is just bad. I had a Moto Atrix that was worth the move to cm. The Xperia is fine without cm and I can't think of anything useful it would add.

its nice to take a break from sony's ui. ive tried PAC and PA and some others for a month or so, in the end i ended up going back to sony because CM nightlies are too buggy atm.
its really up to you, both offers slightly different things, CM has more themes to choose from and like i said its a nice break from sonys ui if you got bored of it.

[Q] Stock vs CM12 vs AOSP 5.1

Hello all,
I ordered me a new xperia z3c, given that i root my devices always and xposed for 5.1 is around the corner.
what rom do you prefer to use on your z3c?
stock (atm 5.0.2?)
CM 12
AOSP 5.1
stock of cuase, if you like AOSP-based why you bought XPERIA
And also, the stock Sony lollipop is quite close to AOSP/CM12 so you really won't miss anything
Sent from my D5803 using XDA Free mobile app
I'm working on omni rom

I prefer using CM just because I don't like all the hidden things that go on in the background (All of the Sony apps/backgrounds things), I don't like knowing all that stuff is in the background. Useful or not, it could really be cut back to not be like 10+ of them lol.
'Stock' Xperia is pretty customizable, I really miss the whole 'change your theme' which changes things down to the buttons / notification-drawer icon colors but that's about it. Stamina modes just seem like useless toggles to me, since CM feels like it always has the best of Stamina active without any negatives.
I've had lag spikes sometimes on 'Stock' Xperia, but I rarely get them on CM, but I'm not too fond of CM12. I preferred CM11 because of its ease of use and access but nothing I can do about it now that they've gone corporate they don't really listen to feedback or ideas anymore.
It would take some time for me to get used to Stock Xperia again if I went back, but if Cyanogen makes any design decisions that completely irk me (and they're bordering on it a little), then I wouldn't hesitate to go back. Stock Xperia is pretty neat in its own right once you get your stuff set back up.
AOSP is just too plain for me, I like the customizable gimmicks Stock Xperia offers over AOSP.
CM12 with xposed for me. I've tried to go back to stock for the camera but I can't live without all of my extra features.

Rom & Mod Reccomendations (Just got a Z1)

Hi,
I'm picking up a Xperia Z1 C6903 for a friend. She basically checks email and takes photos with her phone, so Camera/Video and Battery Life are priority.
Can anyone please recommend a good Rom and/or Mods for me.
I usually get more obscure phones for myself (never had a Sony) without so many options of mods and custom roms, so its a bit harder than I'm used to to sort through the pages on XDA... there so much to go through here so any help to narrow things down a bit for me would be appreciated.
Thanks!

If you /she is not big fan of custom ROM (aospa, paranoid, CM, DU, PAC etc.) I would say just root the phone and use stock ROM.
Stock ROM is best for battery and photos together.
Rooting is good in case she wants Xposed and all the modules.
Don't unlock the bootloader since this will remove some propriety code for display and camera.
I haven't used any stock ROM so can't talk about them.
Sent from my Xperia Z1 using Tapatalk
Thanks, I often find custom roms better for battery life. And can see that there's a few camera mods available. So I assumed a custom rom (either with a Stock based or not?) and camera mod would be the way to go? Also, is the stock camera app the best performer (in terms of image quality?)
Really can't see any need to meddle with the standard rom.
The Xperia range of phones all have outstanding battery life and excellent photo/video software built in as standard.

I was thinking this sound good: [MOD] Z1, Z1C & Z1S 8th Edition - Camera… | Sony Xperia Z1....
And there seems to be a few scripts which claim to improve battery life & speed like Fly-on-Mod...
I guess i'm just not used to stock being the best option!!! I cant help but want to change something
If you want to meddle then root and Xposed would be the simplest option.
But given the original criteria are already met by the standard rom and the fact that it's not your phone I still can't see the need.
Do you really want your friend coming to you with every minor niggle they can dream up, thinking that you caused it by modifying their phone?
Just make sure they upgrade to 5.1.1 which is due out any day now.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
thanks.
I've got it running stock KK, rooted, locked bootloader with xposed & dual recovery.
I decided not to update to LP until 5.1.1 is out (any day now it seems...?) due to slow downs in 5.0.2
From what I can see I'll have to update with Flashtool (if I can find the "Customized AU" file) or updated via Sony PC Companion and re-root & re-install recovery.
will both methods will result in a data wipe?
When it does come out - is there a way to update without loosing here data/settings? & will current rooting methods still work (I used easy root?)
Thanks for your help everyone!
