[Q] Play Store Version and Verizon

Has there been any confirmation or otherwise on whether or not the Play Store version will be able to be activated on Verizon?
I know there's only one SKU and I know that the Nexus 5 was able to be activated on Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T so I'm inclined to believe the Play Store device can be activated on any of the major carriers.

like you, i wonder if this 1 "US" model is essentially identical across the board. i wonder if the play store variant can be activated on either cdma or gsm. i also wonder if there's a difference in the play store N6 and the N6 on motorolas web store. i guess i'm really just wondering if all the bootloaders can be unlocked, no matter where you purchased your Nexus 6.

There's only 2 models one for American one for the rest of the world. I have some doubts that Verizon will activate one from the play store only because they might require the imei to already be in their system as in bought from them. But it's possible to have them add your imei after the fact. Or at least sprint was able to with the N5

My understanding is with Verizon, if you already have an activated nano-SIM, you can just put it in the Nexus 6 and it would work (if you set the APN details right). Can anyone confirm this?

This is my understanding

The problem with VZW is you can't just out your Sim into a phone that doesn't have its IMEI/MEID white listed in their system because of the CDMA part. I'm hoping that all of the IME/MEID of all the Nexus 6s will be added but we have no confirmation and VZW won't comment on the matter.

I hope they don't even have to add the imei it should just work.

It wont just work on the cdma side .... Just like sprint and the nexus 5 they will have to manually add the imei to thier system. But should be easy .It may stop people from upgrading and keeping unlimited data but that is another thing in itself

How can you be certain it won't?

Cdma doesnt work like gsm you can't just insert sim card and it work ... You could buy the n5 from Google and sprint had to manually add imei to system or you would not get 1x or 3g putting sim in only got you lte . should be the same again with both carriers now

But if you buy it from them it should work automatically? And is there any way for them to know if I get one from t mobile instead of Google and try to use it on their network?

It's not going to work and unless your phone has a nano sim in it right now ie a iPhone your going to have to call and get it activated on your account... Like i said the imei on sprint had to be added until then you would only get lte .... Without a activated nano sim you won't get anything

Okay, so I can cut it down and if that doesn't work get a new SIM. Can they tell the sim size based on the iccid number?

Straight talk
I was wondering if I will be able to use this on the Straight talk CDMA network. Seeing the Nexus 5 was not sold by Verizon that made sense, but since Verizon will have the Nexus 6 I am hoping I will be able to use this phone on Straight talk using CDMA network. I am currently on AT&T and am waiting for the N6 release to switch over to ST, but I really need to know if I can use this phone if I switch. Anyone have an idea or is it still to early to know something like this?

I don't think you'll be able to use the N6 on Straight Talk CDMA. I can't use my Verizon Moto X on it. Only a CDMA flip phone was accepted.
You'll be able to use it he N6 on Straight Talk GSM network.

Ya, that is what I figured, not the worst thing to stay with the GSM network but I would have preferred the CDMA. Thanks.

I'm leaving CDMA for GSM once I get my hands on some Nexi 6.
Giving up both my Verizon Unlimited lines to go with AT&T.

I was going to try and sale them on ebay. I was looking, doesn't look like they go for as much as they use to. I'm hoping to get enough to make it worth it. At least $200 per line. But maybe with the Nexus 6 the price will go back up.

Someone posted asking if it would work on AT&T so I looked around to see if it would work on Verizon and saw that Verizon has one LTE band that's different (VZW uses band 13, TMO uses 12). Would that weaken my signal strength enough that I shouldn't do it? I primarily am asking because I'm assuming the TMO S6 would have an unlocked bootloader and all I really want is to be able to root.

Verizon will NEVER activate a phone that they did not sell. Verizon, assholes that they are, won't even activate a Nexus 6 you purchased from the Play Store, even though it's 100% compatible. So the answer is, and always will be, NO.

Well...that's not true from what I've heard. I read the issue is that most Verizon reps just don't know how, not that they won't.

I worked for Verizon for 3 years. It depends on a lot on the rep you get and your attitude. For a while there were a lot of issues with the system not allowing certain IEMI numbers to activate on the network. Why? Cause Verizon didn't sell these devices to anyone. But this has since changed mainly due to Page Plus and the other prepay options. Your best choice is to have a device with a sim card already and simply test it yourself in your other device. You've been able to use the Nexus 6 this way for a while on Verizon. The system Verizon uses is a bit extreme for activation because they'd rather suck your pocket book dry before allowing an unbranded device onboard.

It doesn't matter if Verizon will activate a phone or not. If you have an activated SIM and then phone has Verizon's bands, it'll work. It just shows non-VZN device on MyVerizon. I've used a T-Mobile iPhone and Google Play Nexus 6 on Verizon.
Sadly, the T-Mobile S6 doesn't support Band 13 (Verizon's primary LTE band).

Samsung appears to be using different modems for different variants. The GSM models run one modem and the CDMA models run a Qualcomm.
Even if it was able to be activated on VZW I doubt it would run very well

As far as I'm aware, Verizon is still using CDMA for voice and SMS.
Does the T-Mobile S6 support CDMA bands that Verizon uses? 4G (data only, at the moment) uses GSM..

Yes...it will activate on Verizon (Google Play Nexus 6)...however not in a store...you need to have an already active Verizon sim card. I've done it myself.

Right, but that's the Nexus, which has the radios available. We're talking about the S6, which won't have the CDMA radios required to actually WORK on verizon outside of LTE coverage.
Notice I only brought up the Nexus because of Verizon not activating it themselves AND it being 100% compatible, not that it couldn't. The S6 isn't 100% compatible by any means, and is a completely different animal.

True...some folks would take it as a literal NO though and think it not possible at all. I wish Samsung would make all their newer phones with unlocked cdma and gsm radios...and of course unlocked bootloaders. I guess pick your poison. Lol

Well, it was a literal no. Verizon will not activate it for you. Literal no. It will not work properly. Literal no. It's just a bad idea in general, but so is giving Verizon your money. Just saying...
You could get it working yourself, but only barely, and with multiple issues. So why would you?

On AT&T, but where to get 64gb unlocked version

Knowing that AT&T locks their bootloaders (bastards), I'd like to get a version with an unlocked bootloader that I can mod, swap ROMs, etc.
I've found lots of 32gb versions, but I can't find many 64gb versions out there except those that are ~$1200 and I just can't spend that.
Wondering how others are solving this and getting their hands on one that's AT&T LTE friendly...

T-Mobile (N920T) is probably the best, simplest choice. you can sign up for new service, purchase at full price, root it, get it sim unlocked using a root method (search xda) or hassle with T-Mobile and then cancel once you have it SIM unlocked. N920I also works but it's an international model. i'm using the N920T and the dual-sim N9208 on att and both work flawlessly. search-xda is your friend, you'll find all the answers you're looking for. good luck

I bought an N920T for use on at&t. here is a lengthy discussion about the potential drawbacks to the missing bands when using a tmo on att. TL/DR; on that one is that you might not get service in the boonies using a tmo on att; i haven't ever had a problem with my tmo note 4 in over a year on att.
here is a guy that can provide free SIM unlock (he's fixing to do mine in about 2 hours. many have reported success with him.) in fact i bought a tmo phone under the premise he'd be able to help me, as TMO will make a big fuss about helping you.

Thanks for the reference thread. I've been searching, but didn't come across that one. I've downloaded the app and unfortunately, it looks like 17 is my primary band at my office. I'll keep it up and will monitor across the city. Very helpful!
I did find the unlocker's thread and am watching there as well. Let me know how it goes for you.

Just wanted to see how it's going for you. I've been monitoring my bands here in DC and I'm pretty much always on 17. 4 is here, but looks pretty light and sparse

there was nothing wrong with the process @stifilz used to unlock the phone. the problem was that my IMEI wasn't recognized by AT&T, so they wouldn't send me LTE service. but i got that straight.
it appears i use primarily bands 4 and 5 here.
ooo so band 17.. you are speaking about an AT&T phone huh?? that's not as good, as there is some debate as to whether or not a TMOBILE phone will receive at&t's band 17 correctly. i think i already linked that thread previously, so you might re-read that to see if it'll provide an issue for you.

Good to hear. AT&T made that same mistake with my OPO. Always a chuckle when you know more than the service reps.
Yeah, I've been checking LTE discovery anytime I go anywhere different in DC and it's always band 17 which the TMO version doesn't have. There is band 4 here, but it's considerably less frequent and a much weaker signal. So, that likely means that I'll get spotty LTE service most of the time and have extra battery suck as it works to switch between LTE and 3G. Not sure it's worth it since I'm pretty constantly on the move...

Well there's a guy in a thread iposted about earlier in the Q&A section that spoke up to say his tmobile note 5 does connect to 17 all the time, I'm waiting on his response as to whether that's AT&T band 17 or t-mobile band 17. ( I don't know if there is a difference or if it makes a difference)

I think that's gotta be a mistake. According to TMO's site, it doesn't have LTE 17 and they're standard frequencies.
But, the question for me will be how strong LTE4 is. It might be enough. I'm trying to figure out how to disable 17 on my OPO for testing...

MI5 - Can I Bring It to VZW In The US?

Hi Everyone,
I've been reading the reviews and specs for the MI5 Pro and am considering purchasing one. GSM/CDMA support, 128Gb Storage, etc. sounds great to me.
My plan is to have something with an unlocked BL so I can root, TWRP, and AOSP it just the way I want it.
Before I do how much of a pain will it be to getting working on Verizon's 4G/LTE networks? If I understand what I am reading correctly it supports all the frequency bands on Big Red. Any thoughts? Comments and suggestions are requested on this.

I should also add this is not for the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program. I have a monthly plan and am up for a new device but don't want what they offer.

I highly doubt you'll be able to get it to work on Verizon. Even unlocking GSM bands is a pain.

I don't specifically know about verizon, but our local CDMA carriers do work with the Mi5.

Cdma carriers the us only allows approved devices.
No hope.

You can be the guniea pig and try it out but your chances of getting it to work on Verizon are slim to none.

The more I research this the more dim the results look. It seems that the problem with bringing it to a CDMA network is lack of 4G functionality. Definitely a deal breaker for sure......

Verizon only allows approved devices on their network (read: their branded devices). So there's pretty much no chance of your Mi5 (an unapproved, semi-compatible, and untested device as far as they are concerned) getting on the network, as your MEID needs to be in their system for you to connect to their network.
Stick with an actual GSM carrier.

I knew that was how they were in the past but I thought maybe they loosened up on it. They now have a Bring Your Own Device program. Still doesn't get past getting 4G working flawlessly on CDMA.
I need to look deeper at GSM carriers in the US. Coverage in my area is important for work.

I just saw you message and it is a bit late, but I have the Mi5 and use it on Verizon. It is only 3G on that. I can also use both my Verizon Sim card and my AT&T sim at the same time and have two carriers with two different numbers on the same phone. I had to do nothing to get it to work on Verizon other than pop in the sim card. I hope this helps.

Thanks DFSPCC, I was wondering the same thing and having it listed to work with VZN in the US on willmyphonework.net up to 3G speeds, which is fine by me. Considering the low price at the moment for the Mi5, I think is a great option.

I'm considering on getting this phone... 5.7 inch with OK specs to work with Verizon only thing is you said 3g but that's OK its just to play and test hopefully I can root it... Don't knkw if they have any Roms for it..... Ive been HTC for over 10 yrs and they have let me down been waiting for a 5.7 or bigger... The max was nice but bad specs realy slow so.... I was going to do the s8 plus but now I see the U12 coming soon. But i don't know if Verizon will carry it... They don't carry the U11 don't know why.... What do you think? I can also use both my Verizon Sim card and my AT&T sim at the same time and have two carriers with two different numbers on the same phone. I had to do nothing to get it to work on Verizon other than pop in the sim card. I hope this helps.

Any chance of being Verizon compatible?

I know generally that most unlocked Chineese phones are not Verizon compatible. But, both the OnePlus 6t and 7 pro are even though they are LTE only so I figured there may be a possibility and was curious if anyone actually attempted it.
This seems like the best phone on the market right now, it's almost $200 cheaper than the next snapdragon 855 phone in the US.

Works great on AT&T Prepaid Unlimited, typically for CDMA carriers you need to buy they're approved phones.

I'm actually on Verizon unlimited and had the same questions for them.
I installed my sim card from my previous phone LG v20. And it seems it's using the provisioning from it. All the network info was there. But couldn't seem to get data. So I used shortcut master lite and went to the telephoney part of network settings and had to play with the network settings. Got it to work really well by downloading a network settings app and playing with the band info. It's pretty straight forward and easy to use.
By the way Verizon has no idea what kind of phone I have and it says it's rooted. But it's not. Cloud works great, my Verizon, message+ and anything I throw at it from the Verizon apps. Tech support said that as long as im using my existing sim and have done whatever I did to make it work. Keep doing it. But they have no idea if they are going to setup services and get the info anytime soon.
So I got just what I always wanted.
A nice phone that they can't track or get into it unless I allow them. Perfect

I'm usually on T-Mobile most of the year but during the summer I need Verizon where I go so I didn't consider the RM3. I usually use total wireless or StraightTalk and I've had good luck with slapping their SIM cards into different phones without an issue.
So if you all can tell me the tricks, if any, and which model (US or international) I'll pick one up — sub $500 for S855 and big AMOLED screen!

No band 13, but Verizon also uses bands 4 and 5 which this phone supports. I actually believe band 4 is their main band. I didn't have to do anything but put my SIM card in. Although in the past when I had a OnePlus 6T, I had Verizon provision my line to be LTE only. Don't know if that step is needed for this phone, as it supports CDMA. I'm using the North American version bought directly from Red Magic.

Thanks for the info. Band 13 (700MHz) is Verizon's main band due to its penetration and distance, according to online info, but you are also correct — 2, 4, along with 5 and 66 all work on Verizon. If they put 71 and 13 in this thing it would have everything. So I should be able to get something in most areas.
Good to know I just need to put the SIM in. I can always activate on my old Moto X Pure.

Please oh knowledgeable one, bestow upon me the settings you used to get the phone to work on Verizon. I popped my SIM in to the phone when i first got it and ZERO issues for weeks. Then recently all the sudden I no longer had any service whatsoever. No matter how much I tried to play with the settings, nothing seems to work. What appp did you use for the network settings to play with the band info? Really don't want to change carriers right now.

Well it was easy, phone off , installed the sim card and poof service for about 2 hours and then I had to keep toggling the airplane mode. Until I remembered when my LG V20 stopped getting signal because I had it rooted. Verizon kept trying to kick it off because they don't want rooted phones on there. And also there software constantly tries to update the phone to remove root on you.
Anyways, I m sure you know this part of Verizon. There are many variations of it. But network settings App. All pretty much show the same menu. But LTE only is what you select. And you will constantly have to go back into it and enable the data. The menu looks like this hopefully I can post it but choose LTE only.

So it basically doesn't work because you have to jump through hoops to make it kinda work?
I remember when I sold my Pixel XL, the guy was able to use it right away on Verizon with his sim card.
Did Verizon add more measures to keep people away with unauthorized phones?

Well all I really know is that they say that they just don't have any info about the phone. It has all the bands that work. Except band 13. I haven't rooted it because there still isn't a functional root for it. That setting in the pic I downloaded, theres a switch that says immediate. That's changes to disabled because of the doze function. It's solely for data. I keep mine on lte only. And just have to change it from disabled to immediate. It's kinda a pain in the rear. But. Its a functioning phone on Verizon service that they say doesn't support it. No Verizon apps except cloud and My Verizon. With limited access. It's great as far as I'm concerned. Biggest problem with Verizon. Is Verizon.
But as soon as a functioning root is available and im comfortable I'll root it and enable band 13. I'm pretty sure it's there. Just Verizon won't pay to get the access to the phones. So there's that.
One more thing the OnePlus 7 pro works on Verizon with some GSM function. There support just won't try to do it on the RM3. Other option is you have a second Sim slot. Get you another sim card and that takes care of emergency stuff.

Guess I'll be buying the best gaming phone ever made, the Red Magic 5G next! Sorry Verizon, it's time to move on. Or you can support this baby and make a lot of money.
