Hey Guys;
Keep getting "Mobile data is not available or invalid sim" every time I try to turn on tethering. I have a AT&T S4 Active unlocked, I did not unlock it, it was unlocked when I purchased it from Negri electronics. Any solutions?
Thanks

Are you under AT&T or Sprint? They block tethering by default. You have to buy tethering dataplans or work this around.
There's probably a thread for this already where somebody described similar behavior. There is said that this process solved the problem but root was needed. There are also third-party apps for tethering. Since S4 Active is pretty much S4, try searching threads for S4 if this won't help or lead you to success.
I'm not even 100% if the N4 has it so can anyone verify this? I have horrible service on the first floor of my house (especially my couch smh...) so I need to know that this works
If it's the T-Mobile version, then yes you have Wi-Fi calling.
Yes it does
I got the white note 4 from tmobile on monday. Yes it does have wifi calling. It works well.
WiFi Calling Not Working
Just got my Tmo Samsung Galaxy Note 4 today after Pre-Ordering and Jumping from the Note 3. Decided to go with the SIM Card that came with the Note 4. Got the phone all set up and connected to WiFi and received "ER081 - Unable to connect" Error. Called Tmo and after checking my 911 info and verifying the new SIM Card was registered and such I got patched to Tech Support and reverifed everything. Popped out the battery while he reconnected the phone to the Tmo Network, same error. I have the Tmo Asus CellSpot along with another router as well, same error on both routers. The funny thing is they attempted to send some type of Verification Text Msg and I received "Content not supported" on my end. Anyone else having simular issues? I have good signal throughout my house, its just the matter of a major feature not working on a brand new phone. Tech Support said to give it till morning and call back if it still is not working. texting doesn't work when I have wifi calling enabled
I suffered from the same problem and it seems to be a permanent problem as no amount of help from T-mobile could rectify the issue....so the phone goes back to be replaced hopefully by one with a little more luck!!! Ill be interested to hear how you get along with it!!

I found WiFi calling and text work. The voice had a lot of drop outs on the note 4 however. My wife's note 3 is perfect on WiFi calling without a hint of a drop out.

I'm starting to believe that TMO's version was not ready for release. I am now also getting the ER081 message, slow data speeds (as in <1 Mb/s with the LTE icon lit). These problems have really dampened my enthusiasm for the phone. :crying:

Does the phone intermittently show ER081 or is it permanent now?!

It showed for several hours. Then, magically, went away.

I managed to find that using another phone as a hotspot actually allowed me to get wifi calling...strangely though the cellular signal did not grey out.....when wifi-calling is enabled as preferred on others' note 4s, do your cellular signal stay on too?!
My Wifi calling took overnight to become active, probably because I'm a new customer and my account was still being provisioned. I have both the Wifi and cell signals in my notification bar.
People with the ER081....
You can try to following:
If your connected to your Wifi Network.
Go to Phone - Setting - Call - Wifi Calling - Switch it off and then back on.
This would re-enable the wifi calling feature and you will see the error go away.
Not sure why it gives the ERO81 code, but I have it come up as well.

First thing I tried. No joy. But, the problem seems to be intermittent and not permanent for me.
My problem is a little different. I get the wifi calling icon, but when I make a call, the other party can't hear me. When I turn it off, everything is A-OK. I'm not sure how to remedy this.
Call t mobile and tell them when new Sim card was activated WiFi calling was not set up perfect. Then before last step tell them to refresh you on network.
NOTE 4
I had an issue with my text messages using the SIM card that came with the phone. I returned to the store and they told me there have been issues with those Sim cards that are ISIS enabled due to the security measures. They gave me a non ISIS one and now mine works flawlessly.
I'm getting frequent Er081's on my TMobile Note Edge. I've tried 3 different ISPs with speeds from 10m-500m, tweaked the QOS and COS on each, multiple wifi's etc.
It will usually initiate the call. But it won't be long before call just drops, anywhere from 15-60 mins in. My calls are always long (>30mins), and I've yet to normally terminate a call. Of course I'm now getting asked what's going on.
On one occasion, the ER081 stayed on the drop-down and wouldn't go away until I rebooted phone (Edge).
IMHO this is a wonderful feature, but TMo is not ready for primetime on this one? Is it true Note 3's and older phones work fine?

Disable WiFi calling, go to app and clear cache and data, power cycle phone, enable WiFi calling and try again.

Whenever I make a phone call, the phone (Stock, rooted) pops up a warning saying that "Mobile Data Not Available" and "Mobile data is unavailable while on this call. Apps like email, Internet and social networking will work if you connect to Wi-Fi."
I'm fully aware of the limitations on the phone hardware, and I don't need to be reminded of it every single time... and then have to click a stupid button to make it go away, particularly when I am driving. Is there a way to disable this stupid popup? I can certainly get into system files (since I'm rooted)... just need to know what to do.
Please keep in mind, this is different from the warning some users have complained about which pops up a similar warning when they disable mobile data... this is a different popup that happens with phone calls.
Thanks in advance!
so you don't have VoLTE?

Never turned it on because coverage is spotty at my house. I wish it would be VoWIFI, then I'd be all over it... I assume it doesn't work that way, correct?
It's warning you the phone is dropping down to CDMA for a phone call, which can't handle data and voice simultaneously.
VoLTE can. So, if it's giving you that warning, you are probably on stock ROM?
If you used VoLTE, it would not give you that warning.
I'm also assuming custom ROMs don't have that warning, but I'm not sure -- since I don't use Verizon and I always have simultaneous data/voice.

Correct. If you want to make VoIP calls with WiFi, your best bet is downloading the google hangouts dialer. You'll be able to make calls over wifi free to US numbers, and you can even make it so it will show up as your number on their caller ID. The only drawback is that you can't receive calls over WiFi using this app.
But to answer your question, just turn on advanced calling. Even if it doesn't work due to your lack of signal, it shouldn't hurt anything, and it will get rid of that message.
Yeah, I know what the warning is about., I just don't need to hear about it every time I make a call... so I wanted to disable the popup. I figure if the ROM cookers have seen it, they can point me to where it is and I can remove it.
My concern with adding Advanced Calling is that, as I've heard, it's not able to transfer off VoLTE into a regular calling mode. In other words, if you're on VoLTE, you have to stay on it or else you'll lose the call... is this no longer true? If so, then I'd consider turning it on... but I can't afford to drop calls during a drive (I'm now working in sales, after all!)
Related: I saw a some info about Wifi calling, which is available on some newer phones... I know VZ doesn't let us do this on our phones (for whatever reason) but I wonder if we can enable this feature on our phones via a custom ROM or some manually added modules?

Unlikely since we haven't even figured out how to get VoLTE onto custom ROMs. Plus, Wi-Fi Calling wouldn't be as easy as enabling something. Even if we could somehow enable it, Verizon would need to allow it on their side.

This is also why I can't Wi-Fi calling. AT&T has it for premium AT&T branded phones (mine is not) and for their postpaid/contract customers (I am on AT&T in-house prepaid GoPhone). So, only AT&T can give me Wi-Fi calling, not a custom ROM.
I want to switch from my iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy S6 Active. What steps are involved? I'll need to activate the new SIM on my network (TMobile) and change the APN settings right? I read there will be AT&T bloatware on the Active that will interfere with my network access? If so, how do I remove it?
I'm completely new to working with cell phones, so any advice/help would be very much appreciated. :good:
I have an unlocked S6A on T-Mobile. The bloatware doesn't interfere with anything. And you can disable them in application manager anyway. The only way to remove them is to root. But disabling should be good enough in most cases anyway.

So I can just take the Active to a TMobile store and they'll take care of everything? I don't have to change any settings?

They may or may not set the APN settings for you if the SIM card doesn't already have them. I used TMO with my unlocked S6A but I can't recall if the APN settings were automatic or not. Either way, it's stupid easy to add the APN.

NO issues here in UK with S6a on Three and EE(tmobile)... Popped Sims in and worked straight away... No need to input DATA/APN settings as worked... We disabled Bloatwear... Before Disabling it we had no issues... Disabled as was a waste of space and kept requiring updates which took up more space.
You won't have an ideal experience. The S6 Active supports LTE bands 2/4/12, but not T-Mobile's VoLTE, and T-Mobile is rapidly phasing out its older technologies on certain bands in favor of VoLTE and minimal legacy voice support. Band 12 - which it is currently using to cover rural areas and for building penetration - is VoLTE only, so there might be situations where you have LTE data but won't be able to place or receive calls.
This is what happened me. Is there any way to fix ie. root or something ?? I cant recieve calls
I receive every other call. If I have wifi off, I can see I don't get the call when on LTE. The next comes in, the phone drops to E, and then it rings.
I am currently traveling with my T-Mobile Note 8 in Europe and every few minutes I get the pop up shown below telling me how to turn off data while roaming. Anyone know how to turn that off?
I'd love to find a hack to disable this popup too.
I'm surprised that no one else has experienced this and a solution hasn't been found.
