[Q] Cannot Access Fastboot - LG Optimus L90

Hello everyone...this is my first thread on xda. I'm trying to flash a new kdz for my phone since I think I broke the wifi and cellular radio firmware through all of my haphazard flashing. The only problem is I cannot get my phone to enter fastboot using the adb command or the key combo (volume-up + usb cable in). I want to try and flash back my laf.img ....but without fastboot I'm honestly pretty lost. Any thoughts?

Thanks, but I have read over this thread pretty thoroughly. I couldn't find any resolution to my problem in it...unless I missed something. This thread tells you how to enable fastboot, and revert to lg download mode using fastboot. I used this thread back when I originally enabled fastboot and zeroed out my laf. However, I can't access fastboot at all to even revert my laf partition now. I even tried shinobisoft's l90.sh script to see if that would reinstall fastboot or get it working again....and it didn't in my case.
I guess another question would be...can I revert my laf.img using some method other than fastboot (since I can't access it).

Solved???
Well I was able to get into lg download mode somehow. I left the phone on over night and let the battery drain to zero. Then I tried the key combo to get it into download mode and it went right in.....which is really weird because it should have gone into fastboot since I zeroed out my laf a while ago. But whatever, I was able to flash a new kdz and get my wifi and cellular antennas working again so I'm not complaining.

How to get your 2X into fastboot mode

A quirk of the Advent Vega (also Tegra) that allows you to enter fastboot mode also applies on the 2X (Thanks Bumble-Bee for the tip!)
Basically, if you wipe the boot partition (e.g. 'dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5') then reboot, the device drops to fastboot.
Handy testing feature for devs.

That sounds great!
Does fastboot boot work? Does fastboot flash work? Any other lockdowns there?

Fastboot flash works, ish.
I could flash recovery, but not boot. What would be nice is a radio in .img format so I don't have to backup and restore the bastard thing when a new one is out.
Ahh this would be so awsome.. since i Smartflash can't detect my P990
(so i can't flash the latest basebands or revert them)
Gief Radio in .img format !
Would anyone Know how to get the radio as .img ?
Would this work on the T-Mobile LG G2X?
Good question.
I expect the boot partition is different, so don't blindly follow the command here.

I did follow the command blindly with my P990, but no boot for me. Luckily there's an escape with the NVflash stock ROM.
It's fine on the P990, it's meant to 'not' boot, it's not broken at that stage, it's in fastboot. You can fastboot boot your way out of it.
Is this a safe option to try on my v10D? Fastboot decreases boot time by how much really?
That's not what fastboot means, to be honest, this isn't going to be for you
Hey All,
I was trying to install GingerStreak 2.4.4 from GingerStreak 2.4.3.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1333010
According to the instructions, I flashed
amss.mbn - http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/amss.mbn
and
dsp1.mbn - http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/dsp1.mbn
(got both the files from the first link above)
Then when I tried to reboot into Bootloader (Power+Vol Up+Vol Down) but nothing happens apart from the Dell logo being displayed.
I try to boot normally, still stuck at the Dell logo. The phone never even reaches the boot animation.
I try to go boot into fastboot (power+camera key)mode, but the phone never even boots. The screen stays off, so do the LED lights.
I figured out that the files downloaded above were incomplete(due to slow speed Chrome showed incomplete files as download complete).
amss downloaded: 111KB. Actual Size: 15.41MB
DSP1 Downloaded: 250KB. Actual Size: 8.94MB
So, I flashed the wrong files.
Now, I guess, the phone is bricked big time.
I need big time to get into fastboot mode (to flash the correct files) or anyhow get my phone working.
Guys, need help. Please help me out and get this issue sorted out.
You should maybe consider the Streak forum...
Sorry, my bad. I just searched for my problem an found this thread. Poured out all my worried without bothering to check on the device name.
Thanks anyhow!

first off if the lg logo still comes on your not bricked. Next thing is to go to the verizon thread about how to go back to stock.

i've been in same situation
do this
start phone normal (you'll be in fastboot mode)
use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477595
you already used this , but now go to download page and download all of this
http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G2/VS980/Stock_Firmware/11A_Partitions
and use this command for all
fastboot flash laf laf.img
in case of other files will be , for sample "fastboot flash boot boot.bin" or fastboot flash aboot aboot.img
now you'll have working download mode
after that use 11_a tot method
or you can download 12B partitions , it doesn't really matters (i think)
Still can find the solution

Stuck in Fastboot

Ok..so here's the situation. I was going to install a new ROM ( my son got a new phone a iphone ) but any ways. As I was in TWRP i did everything we all normally do but the phone died mid flashing GAPPS. when i went to pulg the phone to the charger and restart the phone i see that it started to boot up the it jumped straight to FASTBOOT and it's stuck. I can toggle through fastboot but that is it. when i go to restart it will show the boot animation but then goes to fast boot. it wont go to TWRP nothing. I've combed XDA and found the multi tool but don't think that is working or i might be using it wrong. the computer doesn't recognize the phone. im trying to get this phone back up and going and give to my daughter . any help is greatly appreciated. thank you in advacne.
Here's what I'm talking about just in case someone asks

How...I can't get my computer to recognize the phone... When I plug it in it doesn't read it...I should have the drivers already installed...adb push right.... I'll search for the command to see if it finds the phone
adb never works in fastboot mode. You'll have to use the fastboot command.
On the PC, try
fastboot devices
to see whether the phone is available. If not, check your drivers - I believe that fastboot uses a different USB driver.
With fastboot, you can't install zip-files, only image files. So download the stock factory image, not the OTA.

Fastboot - waiting for any device

I'm a newbie at this but managed to stumble through installing CM 14.1 on my LG G2.
Phone: LG G2 VS980
CyanogenMod version: 14.1-20161207-unofficial-phoenix-vs980
Kernel version 3.4.0-crdroid-g0f70b4b
TWRP v2.8.6.3 (I don't know how this version got installed, I started out with a 2.7 version and upgraded to a later version but this is the version I see after I got CM installed).
Latest version of ADB and Fastboot from the platform-tools download.
I'm trying to make the phone automatically turn on when plugged into a charger using the " fastboot oem off-mode-charge 0" command .
ADB commands work fine.
If I issue the command "adb reboot bootloader" when the device is booted in CM I get rebooted into a black screen with the following:
"Firmware Update Do not unplug the USB connection until the process is complete." There is a progress bar that remains at 0%.
Any fastboot command I issue returns "waiting for any device". I have to hold down the phone power button for several seconds to exit this screen and then the phone reboots normally.
If I issue the "adb reboot bootloader" command when the phone is in TWRP or I select Reboot - Bootloader from TWRP the phone just reboots into CM.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
I'm not too familiar with this phone, but all that I know is that it is in download mode, which is not the same as a bootloader. As a lot of android phones aren't the same as each other, I am not aware of how to boot into a bootloader of this phone.
I will say though, if it is anything like a Samsung phone, then it probably does not have a bootloader and the only way to interface with this mode is through the LG Flash tool found here: https://lgflash.com/LGUP/
Don't take my word for it, but it is possible that this is the case. Again, I don't have any idea how the phone works or anything, but this is possibly the solution.

I believe I'm in download mode when I'm seeing the black Firmware Update screen. I'm not trying to flash a ROM at this point so I don't think the LGUP program will be helpful.
If there is a another way to get my phone to turn on when power is applied to the USB cord I'm open to it.

Perhaps by modifying whatever starts when it's charging.
Charging animation for example...
The meaning and purpose of Download mode, Bootloader mode and Fastboot mode are same.
Any fastboot command I issue returns "waiting for any device".

1st thing of all things in order to run Fastboot commands is you have to run command
Code:
fastboot devices
what establishes the USB connection. As long as the connection isn't established Fastboot throws message "waiting for any device".
BTW:
Booting into device's bootloader ( FYI: each device has a bootloader ) requires in addition to the well-known Fastboot driver the Android USB Driver got installed, too. This driver is OEM ( brand/model ) specific, you have it to obtain from OEM - mostly offered on their website.

Not the same really - and LGs aren't Samsungs, or whatever either...
One maybe could try emptying LAF partition ("nuking"). Some more drastic ways also suggest it for boot as well. But IDK, is it worth the trouble really? And even if one could get into the fastboot, that command might not work after all...

The way I get into download mode is to hold the volume up button and plug in the USB cable with the phone off. When I do this I briefly see a screen that says Download with a blue hashmarked bar below it. It then goes to a screen that says "Firmware Update Do not unplug the USB connection until the process is complete." with zero percent progress.
Should I be able to issue fastboot commands when the phone is at that screen?

I'm trying to repurpose the phone as a dedicated Android Auto "server" and would like to be able to leave it connected to my car. It would be really useful to have the phone turn off when there is no USB poser and turn on when there is USB power.
If I make a backup of the Boot and System partitions within TWRP would that allow me to restore my LAF if I nuke the LAF and something goes awry?

Nope again, The LAF has a partition of it's own. To backup use lglaf.py or LGUP having the dump option enabled or extract it from kdz if available.

This is probably a bridge too far for my skill level.
Is there a work around like putting it into a deep sleep that will let the battery to last for days or weeks but wake up when the USB has power?

There's probably a way to do this via root and there will probably be some app that lets you do this. Other than that, you'll have to dig around and see what you can find.

Fastboot mode won't stay

Hey all. I'm trying to relock my V40 so I can sell it, and I'm having trouble getting into fastboot mode. It still loads up the stock rom alright, but when I try to enter fastboot mode from either command line or buttons, it appears for half a second and then reboots to the rom. Can anyone help me figure out how to get this working properly? Thanks!

To relock the v40, use lgup to have a 100% stock rom installed. Then use qfil to flash the eng abl to your active slot abl partition. Exit qfil and go directly to fastboot. Then 'fastboot oem lock'. (and then of course flash the original abl back with fastboot).
u have to have a completely stock rom, no mods of any kind, and u have to use the eng abl, not the 'laf nuked fastboot'.
cheers
